  • Hailed as the most faithfully filmed adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary characters. This acclaimed series stars Ronald Howard as the world-famous sleuth and H. Marion Crawford in a different portrayal of Dr. Watson than usual.
    THE CASE OF THE BELLIGERENT GHOST: Watson claims that he was hit in the eye by Albert Higgins a half hour after he had watched him die of a heart attack. He was however the counterfeiter Pound note Higgins, now day watchman at the Pembroke Museum, where Leonardo's Moonlight Madonna is being shown.

    I really like Ronald Howard's depiction of Sherlock Holmes. After Jeremy Brett and Basil Rathbone, Howard really does a good job at bringing this character to life. It's too bad that so many people think that Howard's acting career was so mediocre.

    • @CuteDwarf11
      @CuteDwarf11 4 года назад +15

      I remember that Ronald Howard 's depiction of Sherlock Holmes was the first I saw when I was a child, and I was hooked from then on. My mother and I would watch these episodes together whenever we could, and I was totally charmed by him; my mother was amused when I thought that he was the one who played Percy Blakeney in The Scarlet Pimpernel, and told me that it was his father, Leslie.
      I always preferred Ronald's acting to his father's; as much more celebrated as Leslie Howard was, his son seemed more human.

      I also liked how Ronald Howard combined the humor within serious cases and had great chemistry with Marion Crawford. I may be thrown stones at but Basil Rathbone was a bore and took himself too seriously. Still love Jeremy Brett the most because Sherlock would have really had such a manic personality in real life and he really brought that to life

    Different Portrayals of the Classic Sherlock Holmes:
    Jeremy Brett
    - hyperactive misfit, true to his cocaine addiction, with his love for theatrics and surprises, pretty dandyish, a gentleman towards the ladies.
    Basil Rathbone
    - hard bitten, cynical, intense, somewhat high strung, confident up to the point of arrogance, a bit mean, but caring towards those close to him, and still a gentleman towards the ladies.
    Peter Cushing
    - gentleman, eccentric, kind of mean, eloquent, focused.
    Ronald Howard
    - can be bit absent minded during his experiments, relaxed, boyishly charming, even when pulling a prank, gentleman.

    I was at first confused because it seemed that there was some foul play with Higgins' death, which makes no sense. But after thinking about it for a few hours, I believe I figured out what really happened. If I have this down correctly.... Higgins sadly died on the way home to retrieve the forgery. The landlady called the museum instead of the police first and was convinced to wait until the curator arrived. He paid her off, then got the fake painting and dressed up to complete the illusion that Higgins hadn't left work early. Of course he punched Watson and then hurried to the museum to complete the switch before the night shift. The only question now is how he returned Higgins' clothes to the house before the police got there.

    The most faithfully filmed? Hardly. Once Jeremy Brett's Holmes appeared all other characterizations seem lame to me. No one ever captured the essential oddness of Holmes better than Brett.

      many people say that... and i agree that it seems accurate, and while i find him very talented, and the production values in his show amazing, but i find jeremy brett really annoying at times, he kind of overdid over time, and became obsessed with his character , and started to stay in character even in real life.. he showed signs of illness, which he indeed was suffering from....i have great sympathy for him but it affected his work....if it is accurate, i am not sure i want the real sherlock holmes
