Brilliant investigation to protect brave and noble woman inspite of confession-case solved basedon experimentation giving thrilling experience to viewers by cool and intelligent Holmes.
My only beef with this otherwise wonderful (and "Didn't the sergeant tell you?" funny) episode, is Watson not knowing that the would was caused by a bullet. As a doctor who served Afghanistan he would have treated many bullet wounds, so would know very well what caused this. For me they should have filmed it in some way that he didn't actually get chance to examine the body.
I simply cannot understand why anyone would give a thumbs down on these wonderful videos! Perhaps those who "thumbs down" these learn how stupid they are and it makes them angry to know how ignorant they are?
Many years ago, I remember vividly, I used to manage Youth Training Schemes for the National Association for the Care and Re-settlement of Offenders (NACRO) in Cambridge and in Tottenham in London, and I used to enjoy delivering their personal development training myself. I particularly enjoyed using the step-by-step guide to making tea to help ,them to understanding that all learning is done in manageable chunks and that we all have the capacity to learn, I'm just glad that my tea-making sessions were not conducted in Sherlock Holmes style. I think we may have lost a couple of our youngsters along the way.
It was wonderful to see Paulette Goddard in this episode. She was once married to Charlie Chaplin and starred in his film entitled "The Great Dictator".
And after they divorced she married Erich Maria Remarque who wrote "All Quiet on the Western Front" and moved to Europe where I saw her sitting in a cafe on the Via Veneto in Rome. Ages ago by now.
Enjoyed another! My advice for newly watchers, just sit back, don't expect too much, don't think about the King Rathbone, and you will enjoy watching these.
Yes! He mixes up a batch of poison in the teapot, then forgets to wash it out real well...resulting in a tummy ache! Haha! I really love the humor in these scripts!😂
@@sandrahelmuth8320 I know what you mean. Once all the tension of an investigation is dispelled, Holmes becomes a curious little boy still learning new things.
Ok, in the "World of Watsons", there is Nigel Bruce, then here - played by H. Marion Crawford, and then the two fellows who played Watson with Jeremy Brett. I particularly like Crawford's portrayal. He doesn't play the nincompoop Bruce was made to play (although I am so accustomed to Bruce). And he packs a good punch!
Sgt Wilkins is my favorite! H. Marion Crawford has a right hook as hard as Mike Tyson. I like Ronald Howard as Sherlock Holmes more than any other actor. Rathbone is great too tho. Duncan is a great Inspector lestrade.Everyone has great acting skills.
I wouldn't say this was the best Holmes series ever, but its worth a comparison with Sherlock. For me, this series towers above the dreck with Cumberbatch
"Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one's head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace." Oscar Wilde.
Watson was a military doctor in Afghanistan in the era when even doctors had to fight against islamic extremist for survival. Taking a life and ignoring the wounded at times was necessary, and the Hippocratic oath was secondary and became the normal to Watson....... I'm sure Holmes was lucky to have Watson at times.
Wilkins was smarter than Lastrade.. Notice he was very curious and wanted to know what Holmes was doing.. and Holmes explained.. Inspector would've brushed it off, as foolishness and beyond his comprehension.
They all badly need to attend a seminar on Gun Safety. Lord Beryl takes a gun out, doesn't bother to check if it's loaded, and hands it to Holmes. Then Holmes gives the unchecked gun to Mrs. Beryl, who keeps pointing it at Holmes.
I know this is sacrilege to say but I like this pairing better than Rathbone and Bruce. I felt Bruce was too much of a bumbling idiot for Rathbone while Crawford is smart and has a hell of a right hook.
hey everyone, I spotted Lady Beryl doing a "Trudeau" , or maybe a "Nadler" with her eye-brows., both of them!,...freeze at exactly 15:01 and see for yourself.,...I think because they are fine in the scene just before, perhaps they had finished, but then called the crew back for one more shot that hadn't been done with the rest., so they took a short cut hoping no one would notice., but I did. :-)
Beginning at about 10:27 Holmes, Watson, and the Inspector start passing a bong around between them! See the stem, and the dirty Bong Water! !n the books Holmes was a certified "Coke-Head"! So, why not make him a Medical Marijuana Patient in a TV series?!?! Works for me! I like Holmes and Watson, no matter what they're high on!
I remember reading somewhere (quite a while back, so I don't recall exactly where,) that the reason there were private detectives galore during Holmes's time was because the police force in London was too small to investigate all the crimes that took place there. It was simply impossible for them to meet the demands of the situation. People had to turn to private detectives for aid as a result. (Not that most of them were any good, apparently.) Of course, I can't recall what the source of this information was, so I can't confirm how accurate it is, but based no what I know about 19th century England, I'm inclined to believe that it's more true than not.

Just as there can only be one real Columbo Peter Falk likewise Rathbone is the definitive Holmes.
That's the Views from Bonney wee Scotland 🏴🏴🏴🏴👍💪
@@seosamhofionnaghain8699 wrong, Columbo wasn't played by any other actor , no way was Rathbone better. Holmes in the books is exactly like Brett. Have you read the books
@@kathleencampbell2298
No actor came remotely close to Basil Rathbone playing the Holmes character.
Brett was a far too modern age TV actor.
Weissmuller will always be the DEFINITIVE Tarzan, Falk will always be the DEFINITIVE Columbo,
Connery will always be the DEFINITIVE Bond, Jack Lord will always be the DEFINITIVE Steve McGarrett
And so likewise Basil Rathbone will always be the DEFINITIVE Sherlock Holmes!!
I never bought Brett or any other actor as Holmes!
Harrison Ford did a good acting job in the film version of the fugitive but David Janssen will always be remembered as the DEFINITIVE and real Dr. Richard Kimble!
There are just some roles that certain actors will always make their own and be remembered for and so Basil Rathbone will always be remembered as the REAL DEFINITIVE Sherlock Holmes!
Once an actor makes a role his own he will always be remembered for that role like Rathbone as Holmes no newer later actor can ever be identified with the role as they cannot turn back the clock.
Weissmuller is Tarzan
Janssen is The Fugitive
Peter Falk is Columbo
Sean Connery is James Bond
Jack Lord is Steve McGarrett
Mike Connors is Joe Mannix
And So Basil Rathbone is Sherlock Holmes.
All of The above actors will always be remembered for their portrayal of these roles.
Brett can never unsurp Basil Rathbone as Holmes.
Basil Rathbone will always be remembered and identified as Sherlock Holmes and there's just no getting away from that image. Brett was just a modern TV age "Holmes" he simply couldn't cut the mustard for me in that role! BASIL RATHBONE MADE THE SHERLOCK HOLMES ROLE HIS OWN NO ONE SINCE CAN EVER CAPTURE THAT MAGIC OR THAT AURA OF TIME THAT Arthur Doyle lived thru!
Quite simply BASIL RATHBONE WILL FOREVER BE THE DEFINITIVE SHERLOCK HOLMES!!
That's the Views from Bonney wee Scotland 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴👍👍
The humourous exchange between Sherlock, Dr Watson n Lestrade amuses me❤️
This is my first time enjoying this particular version of the Sherlock Holmes series. It is fascinating to see how Holmes and Watson change over time.
I love the combination of intrigue and lightheartedness.
Блестящая серия, великолепная игра и восхитительный сценарий! И весь сериал тоже! Просто наслаждаюсь!!!
Brilliant investigation to protect brave and noble woman inspite of confession-case solved basedon experimentation giving thrilling experience to viewers by cool and intelligent Holmes.
They break the 4th wall sooo many times in this series, it's great!🤣🤣🤣😁🍻 Gotta love Lestrade!👮♂️
A very enjoyable holmes and in my opinion one of if not the best watson ive ever had the pleasure to watch marion crawford is a excellent watson
Классный фильм! Как хорошо, что я нашла его здесь! С интересом посмотрю теперь весь сериал!
Great fun. Best episode I have seen this far!
Thanks PizzaFlix , love this gem of a series !
I think we may have lost a couple of our youngsters along the way.
lovely series, so glad they were recommended.
Excellent! Thank you for posting.
Paulette Goddard in Chaplin's "Modern Times"! A classic must- see! 10-Q again PF!
episode #2 is as good as the first one, think i am going to enjoy these
I like this episode but find it over the top when Lady Beryl is introduced. Alright boys we get it, woman’s bloody amazing.
She looks like Lucille Ball.
@@montiemehsling2992 nope
I liked how Holmes treated the cop to rea and chemistry lesson
There is nothing better in the filmed story world than an English production ❣️
What’s interesting is that they were shot in France, but you’re absolutely right.
Another great episode So well done & should rank up there as some of the best Sherlock Holmes & Dr Watson tandems ever
No
It was wonderful to see Paulette Goddard in this episode. She was once married to Charlie Chaplin and starred in his film entitled "The Great Dictator".
Jane, also"Modern Times"! Wonderful!!
And after they divorced she married Erich Maria Remarque who wrote "All Quiet on the Western Front" and moved to Europe where I saw her sitting in a cafe on the Via Veneto in Rome. Ages ago by now.
a real beauty in her day, and aged pretty well; as this episode shows
Thank you for your comment. It explains why Goddard had an excess amount of make-up. (Silent film stars always had excessive make-up...reasons)
Enjoyed another! My advice for newly watchers, just sit back, don't expect too much, don't think about the King Rathbone, and you will enjoy watching these.
I like Sherlock Holmes chemistry experiments.
He was distilling a 7% solution of cocaine.
Lastrade is a genius. The speed with which he consumed that article, then turning the tables on Watson. Archie really does a great job.
Great collection thank you.
Really like the Watson character
My goodness, Paulette Goddard was gorgeous in this film 😍
Ms Goddard reminded me of Donna Reed. While beautiful, I thought she had on too much makeup.
Paulette Goddard was gorgeous every day of her life, imo. Nice person, too, from what I've read.
I wouldn't say this was the best Holmes series ever, but its worth a comparison with Sherlock. For me, this series towers above the dreck with Cumberbatch
I’m completely addicted to Sherlock Holmes. Next time in London I will be going to Bakers St.
On my own so I can play with my imagination.
Brett Thomson I was there in 2015 and there was a very long line to get in
"Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one's head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace."
Oscar Wilde.
Love this sherlock and watson version. 🙏
Doctor Watson breaks the Hippocratic Oath in almost every episode.
How so?
Watson was a military doctor in Afghanistan in the era when even doctors had to fight against islamic extremist for survival. Taking a life and ignoring the wounded at times was necessary, and the Hippocratic oath was secondary and became the normal to Watson....... I'm sure Holmes was lucky to have Watson at times.
Islamic extremism had nothing to do with the Anglo-Afghan wars in the 19th century.
@@PhilBagels Do no harm.
@@nobodyuknow6337 That doesn't answer my question. Which of his patients did he do harm to?
These are my favorites after the Russian ones, with English subtitles and great music. 12 hour-long episodes in one continuous video. @
I have the whole series love it.
They , except for Holmes, talk to Officer Wilkins like he's a trainee waiter. I don't know why he puts up with it .
4:13 Poison... Deadly Poison... Snake Poison... Tea ^o^***
Very good writing on this one.
👍👍💕 thank you‼️
What a wonderful music from the beginning
Such a great series!
I'd say Constable Wilkins is a lot smarter than Lestrade since he was open minded compared to the inspector's narrow minded attitude.
I know this is sacrilege to say but I like this pairing better than Rathbone and Bruce. I felt Bruce was too much of a bumbling idiot for Rathbone while Crawford is smart and has a hell of a right hook.
Excellent!
I enjoy all Sherlock Holmes films and TV series. It is the actors who play Watson that make a film.
Those days! Simple days! Good one.
Thank you
seeing Watson stomp in angrily is the best
Wasn't Ronald Howard the father of Leslie Howard who played in ,"Gone with the Wind" with Vivian Lee?
Yes
I knew it. Ronald Howard played Sherlock Holmes too!
son, you mean?
Thank goodness forensic science and detectives are much better now or a lot of murderers would go free
Fortyish Paulette G showed us she knew how to act.
You just had to mention the lady's age because.......................!

OK ... Watched them all ... Not sure if that's a good thing or not ...
Haha, I'm about half way through. Love the frog pic !!!!!!
gud thing or not ???
u r a fool. theres really nothing better to watch
This was a good episode, IMO. Some of them aren't that good.
DAMN!!! They couldn't have let Baker Street blow up!
Lady Beryl voice reminds me of the Disney Peter Pan cartoon movie.. Her voice reminds of Wendy Darling mother
Good one👏
Unlikely that Lestrade's assistant wouldn't have known Watson.

I love passion for wanting to improve the abilities of the police thru his experiment
hey everyone, I spotted Lady Beryl doing a "Trudeau" , or maybe a "Nadler" with her eye-brows., both of them!,...freeze at exactly 15:01 and see for yourself.,...I think because they are fine in the scene just before, perhaps they had finished, but then called the crew back for one more shot that hadn't been done with the rest., so they took a short cut hoping no one would notice., but I did. :-)
Good catch, and better analogy.
Human beings lie to gain to cover and protect nice words
Thanks to the wisdom...
Lady Beryl theme sound familiar? Listen to Theme of Padmé Amidala from Star Wars
I love Wilkins !!!
It must be an early episode Wilkins is not a sergeant yet.
Lady Beryl confesses to a murder that was committed at her home, but Sherlock Holmes is convinced that she is innocent.
“..the prints that fingers make…ha ha ha ha”.
Excellent
Muito Bom 💖Obrigada🙏🇵🇹
How can a doctor mistake a head being bashed in for a gunshot wound? And then think the bullet was still in the head?
Archie Duncan great as Lastrade & Little John.
It's really cool!
At 8:32 he looks to the camera
It seems that in these times the police did a very poor job of investigating murder. No wonder they needed Holmes
Paulette Goddard's eyes are remarkably beautiful in this despite it being a black and white production.
She was gorgeous 😍
Great caper
