    After WEEKS and MONTHS of trying to piece together every component and trying hard but failing to read charts successfully I had an Eureka moment after listening to the explanation of Demetra George on this podcast and on another one. A lot of authors will tell the meanings of everything but provide little explanation on how to read and a step by step interpretation of everything. Or, when they explain it, they write it in a robotic cryptic manner or, when speaking, they will just give examples of things they already know and makes you wonder if they even know what they are doing. But Demetra is DIFFERENT. The way she explained in this and in another podcast is genius: first, we look at planets, a planet signifies something according to his natural significations and is living the experience of the house it's in because of the houses it rules. Then, it's condition will tell how successful it is at dealing with the experience of the house or how it's natural meanings are and it's dispositor will tell about the outcome of the planet's situation. The final step then is just studying the houses individually to analyze each area of life according to planets placed in them or aspecting them and the house ruler tells the outcome too of the topic. Seeing the houses as experiences and the distinction of what a planet means vs what it is responsible for blew my mind. Now I can interpret a chart with almost no problem! Demetra you're doing public service for astrology. THANK YOU! I'm looking foward to read more of your work.

    These strings of fate entwined together such a gift to us all.
    To set a foundation uncompromised, maintain integrity of texts by ancient authors - critical for the future of astrology. Preserving astrological text may prove to be an equally vital historical resource & contribution to other fields of study.
    ...I can only imagine challenges involved to bring work to press. A steadfast priority of safeguarding the language, is an admirable feat in & of itself.
    Congratulations on your book release Demetra 👏

  • @Cmrntylr
    @Cmrntylr 2 года назад +3

    Those two books are at the top of my read list.
    Just to state as a sign of the times with what Demetra was saying.. one of my favorite shows was HBO’s Watchmen series which was inspired by how the accurate history of the Tulsa Massacre isn’t told, which is a commonly stated thing which is often found within the same argument that we should soften history because it could upset people who also feel history should be told in its brutal honesty and not washed. It creates an incompatible duality just in attitude. One of the most horrific events in American history was triggered by what we call a “Karen” today, there’s modern use to know the story. I think Demetra made good choices with what she’s saying here that you don’t to soften it where it loses it’s meaning while trying to also make it easier to understand more modernly. I like that the 6th was focused because I had so many issues agreeing or seeing the 6th house moon in my natal. Now, I’ll say that placement comes (in part) from a family lineage that viewed children as producing a work labor force to survive like farming. A child born into the family was considered a servant to the parents. Explained more modern, I found little to no connection to it because it’s described as a positive experience. I also enjoyed the 6th emphasis because I searched for examples of a 6th to better understand it and found the Depp trial to be amazingly informative even though he falls into the 6th in the 7th where I’m 6th in 1st. The Depp-Heard trial is an astrology wet dream, especially with Heard’s recent psychological profile. Her chart isn’t timed but you can look for how planets are acting like Mars in Capricorn with a Neptune Capricorn retrograde then libra moon. Depp’s looks accurately timed so his testimony is very interesting.
    My current dilemma is my biggest astrological hole in learning is degrees and I am finding myself actually wanting to sort that out. Shifting to whole signs my eyes are going to a 1st house Virgo Saturn at 2 degrees like it matters, but I don’t understand degrees enough to actually make a judgment. If it’s what I’m thinking, that Saturn is kinda mean. Saturn is what initially sparked my interest in astrology which died out fairly quickly over time so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a key to figuring something out.
    So far, this podcast has completely shifted my opinion on Hellenistic where I wasn’t at all fond of it and actually thinking it’s significantly better and more accurate even though I’d argue modern does have its points. Yet, even with modern interpretations of Saturn I don’t get the “1st house Saturn” but more traditional description description I know exactly what it is where I kind of chuckle and state “that placement is off the rails sometimes..”
    when I looked into the 12th I did find that putting Neptune describing it may have messed it up. But I’m also holding off on judgment because I don’t know degrees well where some placements may have Neptune similarities as opposed to others.

    Listened to this one again factoring in a reading list order. I was actually reading Valens a little while listening, decided to go bottom to top. Of course, reading parts of the Valens made me smile in terms of things mentioned in the episode, even in relation to my natal chart. Some things others may get upset about, I’m all “ouch, but it’s actually true.”
    An example is that traditional/Hellenistic astrology isn’t my interest in more or less studying astrology, I’m more into the psychological/spiritual side which is where I find the most “red flags”, but traditional/Hellenistic as the necessary foundation is unavoidable and it’s unavoidable that it’s likely also necessary to break apart modern and reassemble it more accurately now that the foundation is there. Testing how others would react to that, some of what Valens says about some natal placements pop up as they do in other areas. It’s also kinda virgo to be all “take it apart and put it back together”. I don’t see the problem, the psychological field is a soft science and a mess that needs constant alteration. I do agree that a Jungian lens is good for astrology which has its own implications related to how psychologically and spirituality mixed or are the same.
    Coming off the libra sign episode, I found it interesting (personally) that it’s difficult for me to bring up Venus/mars/Pluto in conjunction in libra without the obvious influence of moon trine in Aquarius EVEN in terms of how the 9th house taurus profection Venus return surfaced. This pulled an emphasis on 2 musical bands I only had a fleeting interest in or none. Melodrom was one, Laibach was another. It’s hard to ignore the Aquarius side just in that Melodrom is pop, but very obscure with only maybe 100k fans worldwide primarily just because they’re Slovaks. Which brings up Laibach which is Slovakian, the band formed from being ruled by communists forced to work as miners where they made music using mining tools. Of course, a common topic talked about today is how the word slave came from (specifically) the Slovak people. So that Venus return (even having a heavy emphasis of Venus libra themes) brought up a lot in terms of a 6th house Aquarius moon. There’s a lot to unpack there.
    At this point, the only house system to work is traditional whole signs and I’m seeing limited usefulness in quadrant. I know a lot of people with “intercepted signs” which are noticeable, I’m just where I’m not convinced this isn’t coming from something else or meaningful enough to matter. Quadrants results in my own mental gymnastics, whole signs are often a blunt “yes” which have also needed breaking off modern interpretations.
    My core interest relates to how I’ve used astrology over a long period of time as a life utility very casually finding it much more difficult to do as popularity has risen where it feels like a dog chasing their own tail. There can be an argument that’s good, but it’s not good for a person who’s coming into astrology with a clean slate with these easy to access tools to find the information found supports skeptics, not astrologers. Traditional has elements that, even though I think they’re awesome, wouldn’t fit well with what I’d be energized to work with. Yet, much of it seems necessary to have an accurate model.
    I did laugh a little when I watched a recent interview with Laibach where they said the only reason they’re “controversial” is misunderstanding that they’re for peace and harmony, not unity from their experiences of unity equaling totalitarianism. “People talk about things from reading about them, we lived it so we have a different perspective.” “We like to always give a choice, reporters always go with the most sensational images which is very telling about their true points of view. In the end, we are just wearing a uniform worn by Marlon Brando”. (They did a photo shoot in different clothes, the ones used by the media were the ones referring the film Morituri/The Saboteur: Code Name Morituri. They were costumes from that film.) One of my favorite songs is “du bist unser” which has inflammatory subjects about how we live separately now, but our spirits are of one. It sounds horrific if you don’t look up the translation. I had a thought about astrologers bringing up how they hate pop astrology and memes; I could agree and shift it to pop music playing music that would nauseate the audience.
    More serious, moving to whole signs with a traditional view on the house meaning may be the most profoundly positive approach. One part is my natal moon being in the 5th in quadrants never seemed right, but neither did the 6th in modern. Moon being in a house of “servitude” (has to read into more to fully make sense) does accurately describe it. In a lot of ways, it oddly showed up in stated Venus return. Semi related, I appreciate the work being done and it’s been the best time to start deep diving into astrology for this specific reason: you’ll get pushback especially by those too attached to how they view things. We all do it in some way.

    RE: the Epikratator/Oikodespotes/Kyrios/etc. Let's not forget Dorian Greenbaum's Daimon in Hellenistic Astrology (2015). It was fantastic and exhaustive, I thought, but not as broad as Brennan's and George's two books, of course - both of which I have and cherish. Greenbaum's study was tightly focused on the Daimon.
