You’re right this is just left over stuff they had that they knew no one would buy unless they put the Megalodon in it.

Honestly, this is a decent one.
Microceratus sold the pack for me and Thanatosdrakon, while not a requested animal, is still a great animal to have. I actually like that it's not a more well known animal giving a more obscure animal more attention, especially when it is similar to a more well known animal like Hatzegopteryx.
Microceratus was pretty much perfect. Its really close to the film animal, the skins are all amazing, and it's an animal we don't have anything like it already. (Think about it like this, we haven't had a NEW strict herbivore since Lystrosaurus, a NEW strict Herbivorous DINOSAUR since Alamosaurus, and a NEW strict herbivorous Ornithchian since Wuerhosaurus and Minmi, THE FIRST DLC.) And Tiny Animals don't bug me, because I like them to be more ambient in larger enclosures or I highlight them in other ways.
Segisaurus, while it's not that unique, is still a nice animal. It has nice skin colors even if the pattern is the Splotches, it's the largest pack hunting scavenger, it is a canon animal, and honestly, it has a benefit for novel parks as being a closer relative to Procompsognathus than the Compy is. (It was more of a Coelophysid, closely related to Segisaurus, not a Compsognathid), but it was definitely more of a "Take it or Leave it" thing, where if I got it, great, if not, no big deal.
Megalodon actually does nothing for me. It's nice and all, but it was never gonna sell the pack for me. And the obvious favoritism bias with the species rating and how it one shots everything in the lagoons makes me NOT want to use it.
The Little Eatie skin is more of a free gift since it doesn't inflate the price so it doesn't bother me. Besides, it was something that ultimately is an odd exclusion from the CC DLC, it really isn't that hard to mod in, and it's very similar to the Big Eatie skin that it makes you wonder why they didn't add it two years prior, but they could make 2 Completely different Rex Skins for the Dominion DLC.

Like you, I believe the strength of this pack lies on the Megladon which is fantastic. Though we differ when it comes to the Microceratus which was never a species I particularly cared about. I'll admit its skins are wonderful, essentially the best we've got for a certopsian but its size and the awkward nature the game handles smaller dino's with cancels that out, at least for me. This counts for Segisaurus too, which suffers from being a less interesting version of the Coelophysis. You mirrored my thoughts on that completely.
The Thanatosdrakon looks great but again, how the game handles them mars the experience. At this point I almost never build an Aviary as the game just doesn't allow for nearly enough freedom; couple that with the lack of walking and social animations and my interest in the poor birb hovers around zero.
The light and kelp are welcome inclusions of course but as you noted both should have been in the game far sooner and concerning the kelp itself pales to what a modder has already achieved. Your guess about the kelp being a first pass pulled from a google drive might not be too far from the truth especially considering Frontier has likely moved the vast bulk of their dev team to the third game by this point.
I suspect that the kelp is a bit underwhelming for that reason.

I honestly think this pack is a safe spot to end on. They brought one heavy hitter, two safe canon choices, and a pterosaur that kinda raised some eyebrows. The free update threw in two things some people have wanted. Given the smaller team that's probably working on JWE2 now, I say that this is a fair pack. I don't see myself using segi or micro often but I do like them a lot. Overall I think you hit the nail on the head for the most part. I'm just excited to see what Frontier have for JWE3. I won't be as chill as I have been if they revert a lot of the mechanics they've nearly perfected and I'm looking for a lot of remodels, new animations, and fighting mechanics to be added as well. I'm mostly a sandbox player but the campaign for the new game should be as if not more replayable than the first game's.

considering animal ratings are purely a challenge mode relevant feature and coelophysis and segisaurus are rated the same ingame using that feature, that means that segisaurus is objectively, as in literally measurably better than the former, not the other way around, because its needs and requirements are lower, and it's a scavenger, something that is actually relevant to challenge mode. So i don't get the point of bringing up animal ratings in the context of comparing designs. The ratings ingame are not supposed to reflect the design or anything of the sort, they are a gameplay feature that needs to be looked at in the context of challenge mode. In other words the only thing relevant to the ratings of dlc animals is the actual balancing. So I don't get the Megalodon rating complaint either. Like why is it overrated? Does it having the third highest rating cause balancing issues in challenge mode because it's OP or something? That would actually be an interesting discussion, because it could mean that people who buy the dlcs would have an advantage over base game players. But otherwise I don't understand the fixation on a completely arbitrary number that holds no value in sandbox mode at all, and should not factor into any design discussions

It was a general point taht the rating system in JWE2 is stupid and doesnt really work correctly. Why have segi as the same rating as an animal you have to unlock, which accoridng to teh stats you provide, is worse? Why would you use Segi instead of coelophysis (if your playing strictly as trying to be as efficient as possiable).
Secondly Segi may have slightly better stats, but the Ceolo is objectivly better in terms of its skins and patterns as i stated.
Thirdly it was not a fixation, I just wanted to mention the other side of the game. It may not factor into sandbox but I am aware there are other modes people play. And again, it was a general commentary on the rating system being sorta stupid

@@tri-clawgaming7682 if you are playing challenge mode efficiently you'd always use segi FIRST because it gives the same rating while needing less space, not being able to attack herbivores, liking more species for cohabitation, having less habitat requirements, etc. It doesn't make the coelophysis obsolete because the game has a new species bonus feature that depending on your challenge settings gives a boost to overall rating based on the variety of species, and in general there are species variety requirements. So you'd be better off having say 90 segis and 10 ceolophysis instead of just 100 segis for rating.
As I said, the rating system is not some immersive, in-universe descriptor of the animal's value as it would be realistically, and it doesn't factor in design, skins, etc. because they are not relevant in challenge mode, the mode this system was designed for. The rating system is a gameplay mechanic that plays off how easy it is to acquire and contain the animal based on space, social needs, research, incubation cost, etc. Lagoon animals have such high ratings because they need a lot of space and money to house for example.
The rating system is stupid if you look at it from an in-universe perspective. A T-rex should probably have a much higher rating than a Quetza from a realistic perspective, but from a gameplay perspective the Quetza requires more research, needs more space, takes overall more money to acquire, etc., which means that the mechanic is working as intended, as there wouldn't ever be a reason to hatch it otherwise if it had a lower rating than a T-rex

8:52 I will not take this disrespect man, a flying reptile that is not the same size and shape as everything else but actually works in the aviary, and all you can say is random pterosaur, don’t you think it’s a little hypocritical because almost all of your species are unknown and yet when they try to pick an unknown species you don’t care, a little bias don’t you think?

I dont think i saw a single reddit post in the last 6 months of someone desperatly wanting Thanatosdrakon. That is what i meant by a random pterosaur. And as i explained, given the titale of this 'the park managers collection', inferring its a pack aimed at the fans, there are other genera of pterosaur ive seen requested far more.
As for it working in the Aviary...have you seen how janky the animations are?
And as for 'all of your species are unknown'...what species are you referring to exactly? Hapzeogoptyeryx is very well known, as is Pterodastro so...dont think you have much of a point.

Honestly i do agree with a lot of stuff you said that being said I've used 3/4 creatures in this pack. Segisaurus is ok but honestly would have liked irratator a bit more as its becoming more popular nowadays and it would've been another piscoviore eater. I just wish flyers did get socials because i would've said it a good farewell. That being said, Evolution 3 needs to get stuff right and not be forgotten. When they start showing off gameplay and nothing has changed besides new creatures im not even going to bother till a huge collection is released, or wait to see what you think Fletcher. Because our mindset for the 3rd installment are almost the same.
