Have you read the original, now non-canon ending? It's not really "I quit" as you say, it does have a nice ending which wraps things up. Yukito Kishiro was sick and felt forced to end the series, which is why it is so rushed. He was really unhappy about the rushed ending, especially because he envisioned a whole different ending and wanted a more expanded story. Eventually he got better and decided to give the series the rest of the story. So he declared the original ending non-canon, cutting it off at the explosion, and continuing the story in GUNNM Last Order which picks up immediately after the explosion. So the explosion is not "the ending" because you're not meant to stop reading there
I skipped the spoiler section, but was intrigued by your further comments on it and went back to see the ending and... WOW. That was freaking brutal xD Overall great video! I like the thought bubble pop ups a lot as an addition to the manga cafe style

Normally I wouldn't even talk about a series' ending spoilers, but given that this series had both an alternate ending and a follow-up series published, I thought it was worth detailing. One absolutely wild thing though, is that the new paperback editions ONLY feature that original ending, no alternate ending, and no explanation page. So people who buy it in paperback now will be in for a shock!

Looks like the english lyrics match mine, but mine doesn't have japanese sound fx they are clearly edited out when i look at what you shared & instead of "big generator" the crowd yells "ALITA!" & Instead of "Movin" they shout "ALITA!" again. So I have viz novel vol 1 to 9 that covers up to pt 8 according to the book. This was the late 90's when manga was trying to be more accessible and they flipped everything to read Left to Right and random cliff notes explaining things that were uncommon at the time. It ends in an epilogue **SPOILERS** Where ketheres has transformed into a space flower and an adult Koyomi looking for Nova meets Figure and they stumble upon a broken crazy Nova and they later find Alita regenerated yrs later in the life tree by the nano machines. It was a really good end point for me as they are reunited. The suicide bomber scene is actually in the middle of the last book for me, maybe this was the retcon point for the mars stuff like you talked about? I never read any of the mars chronicles as i never heard about it until your video.
@@toTheWatcher Oh interesting! So, in my hardcover editions, everything after Alita gets blown up is prefaced as being the "alternate" ending. So from the sound of it, a lot of print editions presented that as the real ending, and made no mention of the series originally ending with Alita's super-abrupt death. So now, if you have the paperback volumes from the 90s, you're getting a completely different ending than the people who might be buying the paperback volumes today. I can't believe they're leaving all that extra stuff out of the new editions!
If that's the case, then whoever created that character is an absolute old head in the manga world lol. I wish I could say I jumped onto the manga bandwagon as far back as the 90s, but back then I was mostly just reading Goosebumps, and books about animals going on adventures.
I would love to get back to them if the show comes back to a streaming service I already have. Last time I tried to watch some episodes, it was taken off of netflix, probably in favor of CBS's streaming platform or something :(
I have not! Believe it or not, I've never really looked at webtoon or read anything from the site. I have a tablet app for manga, but 99% of what I read is in physical print. You know, because I'm reading it all in the manga cafe!
@@Trooth i recommend you read it, it's so good and the current arc is chef's kiss! In case you don't know, it's about a dude that reads a novel and then the novel becomes reality, bringing the apocalypse, now he has to upgrade his stats and use his foresight, however, the choices he makes change how things play out, so eventually he can't rely on it so much.

Oh i love Alita! I still have a bunch of the paperback graphic novels from viz back from the late 90's. Idk they reprinted them.
