@@BlueisNotaWarmColour Yakuza 0 is my first game in the series(I game mostly on PC, but I do have a PS5 now as well). I was a huge fan of Shenmue on Dreamcast and this series is quite similar, albeit a bit more cartoony and humorous. The only reason I have to take long breaks playing this game(same to Ghost of Tsushima) is I only have maybe an 1/1.5 hours a on weekdays to play video games and these games are very addictive and I have a hard time watching the time when I play them.
This is an excellent review as always, but I just want to address the comment he made about the school being bland. As someone who has taught in Japanese schools for years, I can tell you they ALL look at least as bad in real life if not much worse. Some universities are a little better (like the one I’m at now), but nearly every high school unfortunately looks exactly like the one in this game. I totally understand he pointed that out because it doesn’t make for a very fun environment to play in, but it is at least realistic. I guess that just goes to show that, regarding game development, focusing on realism isn’t always the best choice.
I mean, these games are as much virtual tourism as videogames, and they very much take place within reality. Having a suddenly more 'visually appealing' school area when it simply isn't in real life would be anathema.

Judgment surprised a lot of people when it came out in 2019. It ended up carrying the Yakuza torch rather nicely to be honest. Fans were hoping, that after Kazuma Kiryu's story ended in Yakuza 6 the Song of Life, that there would be a franchise that could mirror its gameplay. Both, Judgment and Lost Judgment have succeeded in doing so. The franchise has essentially become the spiritual successor to Yakuza. Hopefully, Lost Judgment won't be the last entry moving forward. Having a detective that investigates crimes and utilizing a much more serious tone separates Jugment from Yakuza, while retaining Yakuza's core formula. Of course, the game has the same over the top, yet satisfying beat em' up style of combat that made Yakuza so popular. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have done a wonderful job with Lost Judgment, much like they did with the original release. The game starts off slow, but the pace eventually picks up. The fact that Lost Judment utilizes the Dragon Engine truly brings the city of Kamurocho to life in a spectacular way. Character models and locations are nicely detailed. The overall visuals are sharp and clean. Animations are solid. Combat is fast and satisfying. Detective works seems to have been improved when compared to the original title, which had one element that I didn't necessarily care for. The game forced the player to follow a certain NPC or NPC's without being spotted, which resulted in an instant fail state more often times than not. I hope that it gets fixed in Lost Judgment. Having said that, I will definitely buy Lost Judgment because of how much I enjoyed Judgment. The fact that Takayuki Yagami is a likable character serves to make the game even more fun to play. It also makes Takayuki Yagami's story worth the time and investment. With that aside, thanks as always Karak for another honest, detailed and unbiased review. I really appreciate the continued hard work. Keep it up!

I love Yakuza/Judgement series but each title feels like 2 separate games. The tonal whiplash between the main story and some side events can be a little jarring for me and was a bit more pronounced in Judgement with a more grounded lead. But these games have more craft in one scene than some some entire series so I'm glad to hear this one is still worth the time. Will definitely pick it up soon.
I really enjoyed my time with the first Judgement game - truthfully my first 'Yakuza' game. The story, the action, the characters all sold me on it. About 12 hours in and the mini-map was turned off so I could just soak myself in that city with those characters. It's become one of my favorite gaming experiences, and I'm so glad a sequel is coming so soon. "Moshi Moshi?"
It would be sad if they stopped making judgement games but it wouldnt be so bad. I dont think id ever get bored playing LJ with all the content they have
Games like this, and Deathloop have made it obvious that smaller but more dense locations are better than large empty open worlds. In all fairness to GTA, I think many of us forget just how long ago that game was made. 8 years is a long LONG time in gaming. If GTA6 ever comes I expect a similar level of density to these as well.
Can't wait to sink in 80+ hours into this. Always been sucker for Yakuza settings games. The writing, IMHO, is the best in the industry, only rivaled by Obsidian's Fallout: NV writing. I was immediately drawn to Yakuza 0 because of the combat, but writing was the main stay for me. After all the Yakuza games, RGG never fails to impress me with writing. From hilarious substories, wacky on screen dialogues to gut wrenching emotional scenes. This looks like a whole treat to us fans of Yakuza style games. And it appears that they have improved on the formula from last Judgement game. PS: Oh forgot about facial animations. Those facial animations are top tier quality.
Sadly it appears it might never happen because the actor/model agency (Johnny's & Associates) of the main character's actor (Takuya Kimura) is extremely paranoid about the image of their actors, and they're clutching their pears over the existence of nude mods for other video games, and want to prevent anything of that sort ever happening to their talent (In essence this means never allowing PC ports of games featuring their talent) J&A are super crazy paranoid and obsessive over their talent, to the point where they are extremely litigious towards anybody that snaps pictures or has footage of their talent without their express consent.
You have the best metaphors and sense of humor. Honest to a fault haha. Love your reviews man. I haven't played any Yakuza or Judgement games, I wonder where I should start.
Just managed to finish the original after a painfully long time spent on Amon's bossfight and beating all world records on the Drone Racing. Can't wait for this sequel
I love Yakuza but found the first judgement quite boring well the detective missions were really repetitive and slow...... Hopefully that's improved or it's gonna be a wait for sale for me
Like a dragon was my first Yakuza game and even then I was slightly tired of the combat by the end. Also, the bosses have ludicrous amounts of health later. Felt pointless to do the extra stuff/grinding when I'm still hitting bosses for like 10 dmg lol
I agree. Although I did really like the story to Yakuza 7, that combat system is not good to me. If they make a sequel to Ichiban's saga, they need to go back to the old school combat or make it similar to Final Fantasy
@@MissBubbles yeah it was pretty good, it’s always fun just to beat the hell out of a bunch of dudes. It can get a bit repetitive at times, but that can be said about a lot of games
Sigh…another game to add to my growing Ps5 backlog…but I’m glad I just finished judgement so I can hop right into this one without it feeing like an impulse buy (tales of arise)
I'm just finishing up the main story of Judgment tonight. It has really grown on me. I will delay Lost Judgment for a month or two, so I can play something else. These games have a lot of play hours in them with the extra side missions and whatnot. Great review!
Of course most of the Yakuza games and their spin offs feature various classic Sega games, however most of them are due to time the particular games are set. Which is why I find it strange, though I'm not complaining, that this game apparently set in 2021 features mostly 80s and 90s Master System and arcade games - I guess it's just their time to shine again 🤔😀🤘...
I'm way more attracted to action beat em' ups than turn based RPGs, most of the time. But for some reason the complete opposite is true for me when it comes to the Yakuza series. Admittedly, the only Yakuza game I've actually played through is Like a Dragon, but it's also the only Yakuza game I've been attracted to. That being said, I'm looking forward to trying out the first Judgement. Eventually. Great Review, dude.
I enjoy both action and turn based, but I'm with you. I've tried other Yakuza games and the first Judgement, and I just couldn't get into them. I would have rather they were a movie I could watch. On the other hand, I just finished Like a Dragon, and it was incredible! I hope we get a bit more depth to the combat, character progression and crafting on the next game with an option to speed up combat, but what a fantastic game with wonderful characters and an engaging story. Even inspirational.
This is the first I'm seeing of it and yes, I will be picking it up! We (fiancee and I) have both the Xbox Series X and PS5. After hearing it looks insanely good on the Series X that's what I will get it for. Holy shit did I just see a Sega Master System in his office?! I sure hope it's playable with a ton of 8-bit gaming goodness! Edit* One more thing...your podcast is too damn early. The only way I will ever get to watch it is if I'm on vacation. You do it up from 4:00 PM until whenever and I'll be there front and center. Unless you might be willing to shift it to the weekend then I don't care how early or late you go man.
I got into RRG games with Judgement. I played the demo just to see how things are and it got me hooked HARD! I got desperate to buy it asap. The entire experience was so good. I absolutely loved the story, mystery, thrillers, characters and some goofiness. So looking forward to Lost Judgement because things are looking to be even spicier than the first one. 24th September just couldn't come sooner.
Can't wait to get to Lost Judgement, I'm still playing through the first one, and while Yakuza 0 will always be my favourite, Judgement comes as a very second close one. Tons of fun with the side stories and the subgames, not to mention the great skill system.
I'm a little salty about the DLC situation. They've only shown the Digital Versions have the DLC upwards of $90 to get everything, and Physical buyers like me can't get the DLC. RGG said they would release the DLC after launch for Physical owners, but Yakuza Like a Dragon DLC is an additional $70 to complete the game for Physical owners. Meaning we would be paying $130 for a "complete" Yakuza Like a Dragon experience if you bought the game at launch. Yes the DLC in that game didn't really matter much, but the DLC for Lost Judgment looks like substantial items (Character DLC, Fighting Styles, etc...) Really bummed about this news.
Got the platinum trophy for Judgement in August, working on Yakuza 7 now. Gonna take a break and likely buy this Black Friday but it's going to be so hard to hold off!

Got covid last year towards the end of October, and decided to pick up Judgment since I'd be in my room for 2 weeks.
About 12 hours in and the mini-map was turned off so I could just soak myself in that city with those characters. It's become one of my favorite gaming experiences, and I'm so glad a sequel is coming so soon.
"Moshi Moshi?"
I can't WAIT to see the combo videos that are gonna come out for this
Thanks for addressing how this is compared to Judgement
I barely got Judgement but now I'm sucked into Tales and Deathloop 😭
Still catching up on a remaining couple of Yakuza games and Judgement, gotta add this to the "must play" backlog. Solid review, Thank you.
Same
It would be sad if they stopped making judgement games but it wouldnt be so bad. I dont think id ever get bored playing LJ with all the content they have
Final judgement is gonna be lit!
Super excited I wish the judgment series would continue they just have a special place for me! Thanks acg fair and detailed review!
I needed the contrast that this review brought after watching ShillUp's review of Lost Judgment
3:06 "Ope, don't wanna miss that ground tomato."
Only two things are certain in life, Ryo Ga Gotoku developing amazing games and ACG making great reviews
I'm still waiting for a PC port of the first judgment
Pretty much sure that it will never happen.
Sadly it appears it might never happen because the actor/model agency (Johnny's & Associates) of the main character's actor (Takuya Kimura) is extremely paranoid about the image of their actors, and they're clutching their pears over the existence of nude mods for other video games, and want to prevent anything of that sort ever happening to their talent (In essence this means never allowing PC ports of games featuring their talent)
J&A are super crazy paranoid and obsessive over their talent, to the point where they are extremely litigious towards anybody that snaps pictures or has footage of their talent without their express consent.
@@deknegt it is also kinda understandable, I mean he is pretty much one of the biggest movie and Tv stars in Japan.
@@Boki_86 yeah..... but who cares....
@@JacaboBlanco the agency does and Sega too.
Free weekend on xbox for the first game if anyone wants to try the series first
What's with Japanese hairstyles looking like the mid 2000s American soccer mom look?
Lol a Resident Evil throwback 9:39
I played the demo and it's even better than the previous game, Masterpiece. Love Japan.
You have the best metaphors and sense of humor. Honest to a fault haha. Love your reviews man. I haven't played any Yakuza or Judgement games, I wonder where I should start.
Start with Yakuza 0, it's just pure fun and the start of Kiryu adventure.
Loved Judgement so I’ll pick this up at some point. Nice one ACG.
Just managed to finish the original after a painfully long time spent on Amon's bossfight and beating all world records on the Drone Racing. Can't wait for this sequel
Always enjoy your content and you in-depth analysis’s
Thanks for the review! I think the ultimate edition is now well worth the $27🤘
What i love from Judgement, there's no loading when u open the door from indoor to outdoor. And so many things detaiL!
Loved Judgment and love Yakuza games. This was a must buy.
That rear naked choke on 4:35 would literally do absolutely nothing
0:23 SHOTS FIRED!!!
I love Yakuza but found the first judgement quite boring well the detective missions were really repetitive and slow...... Hopefully that's improved or it's gonna be a wait for sale for me
I love Karak's vendetta against that Tales character.
It will never stop
@@ACGreviews which one are you talking about? Shionne or Rimwell?
looking forward to go back to brawling after all the "like a dragon" turn based combat.
@@Th3W4tchman I think they've said thay Yakuza going forward will be turn based, and judgement will have the brawler system
That Star Wars reference was awesome :))
I still have to finish Judgement. Now's a great time to get back into it!
"Hair so teased it probably has its own weekly therapy," LMAO
Anotha one (DJ Khalid Style) game added to my wishlist. I never played the first cause I was not that interested but this looks.... BUBBZ APPROVED
Play the first, it’s worth it. The story was great
rack em and stack em
@@milehighmadness1469 was gameplay good too?
@@MissBubbles yeah it was pretty good, it’s always fun just to beat the hell out of a bunch of dudes. It can get a bit repetitive at times, but that can be said about a lot of games
@@milehighmadness1469 i'll get it then since it goes on sale all the time! Thank you for the help✨
Would love to see this studios take on other cities. Like what if tak had to travel to LA for a case or Paris or something
ACG = Awesome Content Guaranteed. Thanks for your insight as always
I just discovered Judgment last week and quickly fell in love with it. Now here comes this, but it might be the last one? Say it ain’t so…
This was a surprise hit. I’ve gone back to other yakuzas after playing and wow. This is a bigger leap forward than I thought it would be.
Thank you. I didnt even know there is going to be another Judgment game. Time to finish the first one.
After how much i enjoyed the story in Judgement, i can appreciate a slow burn for the story. SO getting this day one!
Sigh…another game to add to my growing Ps5 backlog…but I’m glad I just finished judgement so I can hop right into this one without it feeing like an impulse buy (tales of arise)
Judgment was my game of the decade for the 2010's. Glad the sequel isn't going to disappoint, already have preordered on my Series X.
Definitely one of the best games of september.
I'm just finishing up the main story of Judgment tonight. It has really grown on me. I will delay Lost Judgment for a month or two, so I can play something else. These games have a lot of play hours in them with the extra side missions and whatnot. Great review!

he absolutely killed that schoolboy
Of course most of the Yakuza games and their spin offs feature various classic Sega games, however most of them are due to time the particular games are set.
Which is why I find it strange, though I'm not complaining, that this game apparently set in 2021 features mostly 80s and 90s Master System and arcade games - I guess it's just their time to shine again 🤔😀🤘...
Certainly looks pretty and like a lot of fun but isn't really "up my alley" but nice review as always Karak.
So excited for all the new mini games
Thanks for another good review
I got into RRG games with Judgement. I played the demo just to see how things are and it got me hooked HARD! I got desperate to buy it asap. The entire experience was so good. I absolutely loved the story, mystery, thrillers, characters and some goofiness. So looking forward to Lost Judgement because things are looking to be even spicier than the first one. 24th September just couldn't come sooner.
Excited to play this after Tales
I really like Judgement but for some reason, I just can't get into the combat.
Definitely have to get it. Been binging non-stop Shenmue, Yakuza 0, Ishin, Judgment, Like a Dragon and Gaiden.
Saw IGN give this 7 so came here to learn the true score.
Well loved the first one so getting this…thanks man!
Got Lost Judgment pre ordered. Loved the first game.
Unfortunately no PC = no buy. Its a shame because it truly looks like a great game but screw Johnny & Associates.
Amazing stuff as usual Karak 🔥
thank you!
Yes the DLC in that game didn't really matter much, but the DLC for Lost Judgment looks like substantial items (Character DLC, Fighting Styles, etc...)
Really bummed about this news.
yes i really want to know further information about the dlc, i prefer to buy a physical version but the dlc kinda important not jug cosmetic
Got the platinum trophy for Judgement in August, working on Yakuza 7 now. Gonna take a break and likely buy this Black Friday but it's going to be so hard to hold off!
Damn thats some tenacity
Agreed, takes a long time to platinum Judgement, congrats. I might try and go for it this time with Lost Judgment.
@@Vegetto19 Rushing through the Expert difficulty playthrough took like 6 hours and I thought that would have been the hardest part....that was before I knew about all the phone app challenges haha
Loved the first one and def getting this one!
can we change clothes/outfit in the end game like the yakuza seires used to ?
Far cry 6 would be the next big review I’d want to see
This is a well done review and I love your structure...IGN was terrible. Thanks ACG
My favorite series. So fucking HYPEEEE
The detective guy at 1:45 kind of had a Japanese Columbo vibe to him to me
This game needs a Tekken crossover.
