as you can probably tell from my profile picture, I am obsessed with this place, and seeing the place in such disrepair as this makes my heart ache

I was there end of summer and don't remember the graffiti being that bad. The 2 story wall sculpture was mostly free of paint.
I visited the resort with my mom and her boyfriend back in the mid 1980s and it was great. First place I ever tried skiing.

@@_GntlStone_ i can see that someone was attempting to repaint part of the sculpture (with the humanoid figures in a column), but yeah it looks pretty rough now, and ever since the pandemic happened and everyone was bored and didn't have anything to do the vandalism seems to have increased significantly

I wanted to go that place one time but it would be almost a 12-hour drive but it would have been worth it before it got completely trashed like this I love Urban exploring I used to feel the same way about the old Reed hospital can say the name now because it's torn down
Really a shame that this happened put the fire because a group of investors was just getting set to do a restart of the property
While some graffiti is cool to see I don't know why kids have to go and tear stuff up that's what ruins it for the rest of urban explorers that just want to walk around and check out being in a cool place

For Some People, All they know is how to Hurt, and Destroy. Now if a Community of Squatters was to Move in and Take Care of that Place. They Would've Kick them Out. For this.

man...good double pane windows too. it's a shame it for decommissioned, I assume it was looking dated so ppl went somewhere shinyer and the investors just wrote it off?
🤏🏻pass the blunt homes. no worries; it's ALWAYS a good idea on a rainy day. ☺️

someone commented below that the investors were planning a revamp, reopening right before the fire happened.

the place went bankrupt because this whole area was plummeting down a tourism pit over the course of many years with all of the “big 3” being closed by the 2010’s (the Grossinger’s in 1986, the Concord in ‘92, and the Nevele in ‘09) and plans for restoring and repurposing just never seemed to follow through

@@JimmyMatis-h9ynot quite reopening, but also not yet doing things, as the Borscht Belt Museum asked to see if they could try and save things from the hotel and fully scan and document it, as it would be one of the few chances of saving larger artifacts from hotels like this
