Salt Water is a very powerful conductor. Pure water itself is not a danger however most water has at least some amount of sodium in it, that’s what really carries the electrons (the molecules that make electronic machines work) to the places that are not supposed to go to, frying all parts in it’s path. So once something is broken due to water damage, your only option pretty much is to replace the part (in some cases the whole device)
With the disc going backwards, fun fact this is how some disc drives can "brake" the disc to be safely removed without damage. I say the shorts inadvertently "turned on" this feature.
