I had joycon issues (mainly the plastic locks on metal rails). I replaced the plastic locks it comes with with metal ones, and haven't had any problems since. It even got stuck under a chair once, and the rubber came off the stick, but surprisingly there was no drift.

I remember watching this 5 years ago when I got my switch, I was terrified of these thing happening to me. The things I actually did experience was putting the wrist strap on the wrong way, the dock scratching my screen, a botw crash, joycon drift, joycon connectivity issues, joycons not latching on correctly, and dead pixels. My fears were right EDIT: Now my touch screen is randomly firing up and down near the left of the screen. Thanks Nintendo! Edit here in 2025: Screen is now broken. System still works but you can't see anything. Bought an oled and it's been perfect since though so this will be my last update. Enjoy yalls switch 2's, hopefully it goes better

I remember watching this video when It first came out. Crazy how the Switch was seen as a last ditch effort by Nintendo and was seen as likely to fail to becoming a giant cultural phenomenon.
The switch had the strangest hardware faults. When i got my switch and played botw for the first time i noticed when i had both controllers connected the screen would literally just go blank after about 30 seconds. Playing with both controllers disconnected from the console was fine though, and putting the console in sleep and waking it would fix the screen.

My launch switch lasted me 5 years under very poor treatment. It still works, I just have an oled now. The launch was fine.

I remember watching this 5 years ago when I got my switch, I was terrified of these thing happening to me. The things I actually did experience was putting the wrist strap on the wrong way, the dock scratching my screen, a botw crash, joycon drift, joycon connectivity issues, joycons not latching on correctly, and dead pixels. My fears were right
EDIT: Now my touch screen is randomly firing up and down near the left of the screen. Thanks Nintendo!
Edit here in 2025: Screen is now broken. System still works but you can't see anything. Bought an oled and it's been perfect since though so this will be my last update. Enjoy yalls switch 2's, hopefully it goes better

The switch had the strangest hardware faults. When i got my switch and played botw for the first time i noticed when i had both controllers connected the screen would literally just go blank after about 30 seconds. Playing with both controllers disconnected from the console was fine though, and putting the console in sleep and waking it would fix the screen.

this is really funny to watch all these years later, not only for the release of the Switch 2 and the possible electric boogaloo of launch problems that console may have, but because of how i remember many people talking about how badly made the Switch was when this happened, but then gradually a few years later, that all sorta just... majorly calmed down (an exception being the joycon drift issue) and people just talked about the games instead. like i heard nobody talk about the quality of the dock or the straps getting stuck in the joycons or whatever the hell that demonic screen glitch was ever again after a while. it's kinda crazy to think a console that is pretty well-liked among a majority of gamers and Nintendo fans alike had such a rough launch all these years ago lmaooo

The dead pixel message Nintendo issued is ridiculous. Of course pixels on LCD screens will die eventually but for them to be dead already on a device with no play time is just unacceptable.
I was actually in disbelief when I saw their page about it. Dead pixels is the sort of shit that shows up with high use several years later.
These people are getting them within a week.

DammitLeeroy dead pixels can appear in any new display. Even with highly expensive $1200 monitors can have dead pixels just after opening the box.
to be fair many company have this as a policy, it does seem super lame but its almost an industry standard at this point. check almost any other company(other than apple and big name phones) with displays and they will include this policy.
