The STORY of this abandoned flooded Playstation 1 (PS1) console game 🎮, 🕹️:
I spend my days scouring 🔍 thrift stores for worn, abandoned, and damaged electronics, challenging myself to repair and restore them 🛠️. While hunting for a Sega Mega Drive 2🎮, I spotted a flooded PlayStation slim in the background of an ad, in terrible condition. I contacted the owner, who kindly gave it to me for free, having lost hope of it ever working again. This video documents the 36-day journey of restoring this console, given my care and attention to detail. I hope you enjoy watching it! 🎮🔧
In this video:
The restoration begins with a comprehensive cleaning 🧼, taking apart the console and tackling every component. A meticulous 4-step wash 🚿 ensures all flood remnants are erased. The ABS plastic will undergo a retro-brightening treatment 💡 to remove any discoloration, while rusty metal trays are refreshed with a nickel-plated finish 🛠️.
Moving on to repairs 🔧, a broken screw mount is reinforced with epoxy resin. The PS1’s lens receives a detailed overhaul 👓, and the circuit board is cleaned to address any water damage 🧽. Electrical connections, including the AC power socket and AV video plug, are re-soldered 🔌, and the power switch is restored 💡. I'll say this.. you were definitely prepared for this restoration, and what a restoration it was. I'm fairly new to this stuff (newly developed hobby), because I wanted to give my Xbox 360s some tlc. So I've been binging on console restoration videos in particular for about 2 months now, and I can say without a doubt in my mind that THIS video has been the most extensive restoration I've ever seen. Loved it all, the cool tools, the compounds. You rebuilt pieces of the shell even, that was awesome, but I think it was the motherboard for me. Fantastic video man, really. The end part playing Metal Gear Solid was a pretty awesome blast from the past.👍🏻👍🏻💯💯😌😌

Two months of watching restoration videos is a great way to learn. Yes washing mother bord with some care has no problem, it looks scary but don't worry if you remove all moistures and does not use harsh chemicals and remove any battery from the board during the washing step, no problem will occurs. However I highly recommend to use high pressure air or Isopropyl alcohol unless the motherboard is as bad condition as in the video u watched. 💙

The amount of focus this must've taken is immense. I've done my own stuff so I'm not foreign what goes into this. I'm interested in more than the restoration. YOU, have got my attention. What is your background? What're your values? For real, you are an incredible human being. While I consider myself very strong willed and persistent, this is something else. It's not persistence. It's serenity.

I have done restoration since I was 9 as a hobby and at this moment I know a lot about chemical thanks to my academic education, and I know about mechanical tools and electronics because of my passion.

If this thing can be brought back to life this gives me hope for the myriad of consoles that just stopped working for no reason that I still hold onto. What you did here was more aching to surgery than simple restoration, I have never seen another restorer go to such lenghts and you have defiently earned another sub. I'm a collector and all my old game consoles I bought broken and have restored myself, so I have experience doing it. However, your level of ability far exceeds anything I've done so far. Seriously impressive stuff! Keep it up!
I have two observations, however:
1- I would suggest using a tiny bit of silicone grease inside the power switch, where the spring and retaining mechanism is. It is originally lubricated and can fail with time if left like that.
2- When you're gonna remove a large connector with a lot of pins like the AV-multi out of this console, it's better to first apply low temperature melt solder, then apply heat to the whole thing with hot air (if the connector is not too big, a soldering iron will suffice) and the connector will fall easily in one piece, without damaging the motherboard pads whatsoever.

THIS is restoration. Fixing plastic and not finding a donor shell or buying chinese knockoffs from whatever chinese site is on everyone's lips at that time. my dude tearing apart a barrel jack to restore it. Doing the lords work buddy.

The use of a rotary brush and then a vacuum on the motherboard seems like a recipe for disaster. It is a testament to Sony's manufacturing and quality control that no components were lost during your aggressive cleaning.
No, all the rotary kits are soft and not even a single scratch due to them would happend, I have a valuable experience using that tool and I assure you I did the best with the minimum risk 😉

Yeah it was satisfactory but actually not as much as viewer comments. i have done way more challenging restoration before and I just started to record and share, so it was good not best one to give me a huge satisfaction feeling 💚💛💙 (the screw base didn't make me feel good actually, actually it was bad one it should and could be really really better)

Safe to say this is by far the most labor intensive restoration to date. This must’ve been 30+ hours. I can’t believe you saved it. My favorite part was you taking the time to do a nano coating on the board pieces. May as well consider a paste wax or ceramic coating for the outside of it to protect the paintwork also! It would take 20 minutes.

Man I always loved the color scheme of the late stage PS1s.. I had a grey fat boy from the original generation but those light blues and greens on white was chefs kiss.
