      Some years ago I found a lot of bargains on ebay, first of all, if you can find an item where the end of the auctions is in the middle of the night or if there are a very big event like World cup football, then your chances of winning an auction is much better, I got a lot of items for next to nothing, but be AWARE of shipping cost !!! Second when I make a search for a bargain, then I write as little as possible fx Leica Leitz and search All categories, it can take hours to scroll through, but you will find bargains. Third, if someone have a fixed price, but also accepts offers, then be very polite and ask for a lower price without being too low, mention that it is for your self, many sellers do not like those who try to buy as cheap as possible and then later sell for a much higher price.

    One of the most if not the most profitable purchases regarding cameras I've ever done so far; was to find a decent used Leica M2 for around 1,000$ and came with a Canon LTM39 35mm F1.5 canon lens + the Leica adaptor in perfect condition. I swapped the Canon lens for a Hasselblad 500CM + 50mm f4 CfFi lens + Planar 80 F2.8 second gen + 2 film back and Prism Top finder. Fixed some issues with the high speed on the Leica M2 and sold it for 1,600$. Blessed.

  • @andrewrothman7805
    @andrewrothman7805 Месяц назад +6

    I've done this a couple times. I was looking for a Canon ltm 35mm, and found one on Facebook Marketplace for a cheap price in great condition. It came attached to a Canon 7 in fine working condition. Also came with a 90mm Elmar that had bad fungus, so the seller kept the Elmar and knocked the price down even further. Another time, I was looking for a 135W panoramic back for my Bronica ETRS. Found an ebay sale for another ETRS, and it had the lens, AE finder, grip, and lo and behold, there was a 135W back on the camera (plus another 120 back). Won the auction for around $700. These 135 panoramic backs routinely go for more than I paid for the whole kit, and everything came with original boxes and paperwork. So now I have 2 ETRS kits, but I'm not complaining.

    I just did this, too! I was trying to find a nice 28mm viewfinder, and the only one I could find came WITH the Orion-15 for the same price as the viewfinder by itself. And now I'm even more in love with the Orion-15 than the viewfinder!

    I’ve done this as well, don’t only look for the lens but also look for cameras the lens is likely to be attached to. If you pay the price for what the lens would have cost on its own the body will effectively be free. The bias on eBay is for people to sell their gear based on the body and less on the lens fitted, so take advantage.

    You should do a video on budgetting. Like if you buy a 50mm summicron for say 600 dollars or smth and saved maybe 1k you could use that 1k you saved to buy an additional 90mm cron at market. Or if you get that for half than you actually have another 500 on a voigtlander to boot!

    I did this thing exactly with my Kiev-4a. Also I was able to find Konica III A, but payed around $50 for it, seller claimed it was in working condition but it was far from it. Long story short, I got full refund and a camera, except of delivery price which is like $3. I really hope it can be repaired (and maybe I'll try to do it myself), since all shutter speeds work, but shutter lever is quite stiff, and vertical rangefinder lines are misaligned ;c

    I was able to do this with a 1961 Leica 35mm Summicron 8 elements lens, when browsing on Facebook Marketplace I came across a Leica M2 for sale. I already had a nice 62’ M2. The add showed the body with a lens for $1300.00 CDN, When I arrived at the seller’s sure enough he was advertising an M2 camera with lens. Both in excellent condition. I bought an 8 elements Summicron at bargain price that just happened to have an M2 attached to it! As I now see it 😊

    This hack works for EVERYTHING! For example, I just got my week's groceries for free! I did have to pay $50 for a brown paper bag, but it's still a bargain...
    🤣🤣🤣 but seriously, folks... I've had mixed results on this as a money-saving strategy (it usually works out like the old joke about the $75 elephant... that's a great buy, but ONLY if you really need an elephant and if you have $75) but sometimes it's the ONLY way to get a scarce item! Example: When I was trying to find the incident-light attachment for my Canon P's clip-on meter, the only way I could get one was to buy another meter that included it. Fortunately, these meters aren't expensive either with or without the attachment, so it was just a matter of looking until I found one that included it. So now I've got two meters (or maybe one meter and one $75 elephant...)

    A few years ago I bought a poorly listed Panasonic GM1 and a 14mm lens (that I wanted) and it came with a Billingham bag and bunch of other stuff that I didn't pay much attention to in the advert - I sold the bag, the Novaflex Nikon MFT and Viltrox Canon EF to MFT 0.71 adapters separately for more than the £220 I paid for the whole lot. I've kept a Nikon 85mm f/2 AI-s that was also in the bag. I ought to sell that now - might get the same back for that!
    Collections of anything, especially when they are badly listed, are nearly always worth buying!

    The RUclips clips like yours are mostly constructively useful and informative but from the other side, they ruin the chance to buy cheap camera gear on eBay and this is why all the vintage cameras/lenses are just unreasonably overpriced. As both the buyers and sellers would watch the clips. Anyway, I'm a big fan, you're doing great. Peace

    This is no criticism of you, but there is nothing free in this world. As for ebay, the asking prices fro m people claiming to be private sellers are not far off camera shops. With ebay you getno guarantee and seldom the right to return, atleast with a camera shop you get three to six months warrany and usually you can return the item within a week or two. Forget ebay. One email, two replies and the lens was exchanged. I could have got it about £100.00 cheaper from ebay, but no returns. Where would I be now, £500.00 out of pocket. It is also very difficult to get anywhere with ebay if the seller didn't want to cooperate. A couple of years ago it took nearly two months to get a refund on an item that the seller had said was in stock, but it wasn't. Really for expensive tech stuff, it really is not worth the risk. I can tell you another horror story about a lie that ebay told me last Christmas, but I think this is enough.
