    I must be honest, doing oil changes for 30+ years, I can do them in my sleep, the only reason for clicking on this video is to hear someone say they are my friend, as they are hard to come by.

    Thank you Peter. Helpful. Non Carolla owner but admire the longevity of the Carolla and your mechanical knowledge. Almost time for Kraut break here on the east coast.
    You da man Peter!

    Petr, I too am in the very exclusive owners club for 1ZZ-FE engine. I think Club membership currently stands around 10 Million. We are always looking for new recruits but be advised, you have to be qualified to handle the full 126 hp these high performance engines generate. 😉

    I finally bought the same funnel and used it a week ago . So much easier and no spills and being able to use two hands handling a 5 quart jug .

    Those oil funnels are great! It makes for a quicker cleaner pour.

    Was this owner taking it to someone who overtorqued the pan bolt before or was it good? Satisfying to hear you comment your opinion as we see you open it. Long before when I was young, I took it to a company known for writing big tickets to make scam repairs. Lets call them Flamestone. The gorilla was like 6'6 and big and he double wrenched the bolt and would not stop putting his whole body weight on it until I yelled. Made him undo the bolt to make sure he didn't strip it and the threads wouldn't come out with the plug next time. I was in shock. Maybe they do this to make jobs and guarantee future customers.

      You'll spin a bearing if you put a lighter weight in. Put what the manual says for your climate.

    • @411sponge72
      @411sponge72 6 месяцев назад

      That's not ok. Definitely put what the manual and oil fill cap says. Using the wrong viscosity will damage the engine.

    Being there is sludge in the engine, is a flush recommended?

    • @rk22cc
      @rk22cc 8 месяцев назад +1

      Perhaps another oil change in a thousand miles

    • @LAactor
      @LAactor 8 месяцев назад +2

      Not for a Corolla. Best thing is just to use synthetic and run it more often. Modern syns have excellent cleaning properties and they do it gradually. If you're eating oil more than a quart each oil change, throw some ristlone in or sub 20% put with Marvel Mystery and it can slightly more clean and try to free stuck oil and compression rings.
      Using a straight solvent based flush is the worst thing you can do to an engine which can aggressively break away sludge buildup and block a lifeblood passage.
      The ONLY time that's okay is if the engine is about to be junked and ita a last ditch. Like if it eats a quart every thousand and you've already bumped the oil weight up considerably several times.

    Hey Peter ! what oil (viscosity and API) do you recommand ? I own a 2005 MR2 with that same engine. The manual recommands 5w30, but say you can also put an oil with higer viscosity such as 10w40 ou 15w40. Many people seem to do that and having no trouble. I tried 5w30 and 5w40, the engine was a lot more quiet with the 5w40 and the guy from the dealership also told me I could put 5w40. But I red that you should never use a thicker oil than 5w30 in this engine. Is that true ? For the info, the car has 60k miles on it and is always driven between 10 to 35 celsius degrees.

    • @joesaric1
      @joesaric1 9 дней назад

      you can use 5w-40 in the summer if doing a lot miles

    Those battery terminals are ugly, universal type. I recommend the OEM or at least a set that looks like oem, Amazon has those for 15 bucks a pair of +and- terminals. Also throttle body cleaning, air filter, cabin filter, maf sensor cleaning or replacement. .

    Many people do not understand how even a little sludge, can DESTROY todays engines. Oil starvation is a myth, to people who can't afford proper maintenance.

    Use a punch and a hammer to put a hole in the end of the oil filter so it drains before you take it off .
