If I had to choose. After your review.. I'd go with alpharex. Looks like a lot more useable light infront of the truck. I love how wide spread the pattern is from left to right. Then if people really want the distance.. flip on the brights or light bar lol. But yes.. redesign the amber reflectors.. only thing that kills it. Love the video. Think you sold me on new headlights for my truck!
Thanks to your video, I just finished installing Alpharex Nova on my cateye Silverado. I've been looking for good quality light output for this truck for a very long time, and you gave me the confidence in Alpharex that I needed. So glad they finally released this model for the cateye models. The stunning good looks are nice, but what I really needed was the best possible light output with properly controlled patterns. Thanks for your effort putting together all this information and giving a really good demonstration of the lighting characteristics, that's really hard to convey in a video and you did the best I've seen at this.
Retrofit look too much like the newer style gmc. If you want that style buy a gmc. Chevy got to have the separation and quad set up. Spider look would even better but the Rex light isn’t bad at all. I’d choose the Rex lights
Those Alpha Rex are much brighter at night....Very Nice! I wish they made them for older trucks 😢 Also....I like the Amber on the new lights....very distinctive ❤️
The areas they "brighter" is closer toonthe vehicle. Anything you can see that close too the vehicle you cant stop for at highway speeds. Morimoto has far better hotspot intensity/distance vision
I was saving up for the Morimoto's, I'm glad you did this comparison, Aphex nicer for my use and a touch cheaper. The Mori's would look better on your truck if you were to get off lamps. Morimoto has kickass fog lamps that would fill up that empty space in front of the truck
For a 1/3 of the price it’s pretty clear what the winner is here for me at least. The quality and professionalism of this channel is phenomenal and this is the first one I’ve seen on your channel. you definitely have a addicted subscriber now
I think because the alphas low beams sit up higher in the headlight than the TRS lights you would need to raise the cutoff line up further due to the angle that the light is going out at the road. If you do that I bet they would project as far or close to the TRS lights. Overall it looks like the alpha lights win hands down. The quad jewels look amazing. 😍
I was kinda thinking that. He should have re aimed them properly. As it is now the alpha lows look light they'd impress you but mostly kill your night vision by dazzling you dumping all those lumens on the road 20' in front of you where you shouldn't be looking unless your @parking lot speeds. Hopefully a proper aim would fix that. If not I'd go Morimoto for sure you can fill the foreground with fogs as needed. Those alpha highs do smash though but that's what I have a light bar for.
Same here. I’m running lights similar to the retrofit ones but I’m not a huge fan of the fact that I don’t have switch back drls like the retrofits. I was considering switching to them, but now I really like the Rex other than the reflectors
The AlphaRex ones seem to have the LED placed incorrectly. It probably makes for a more pleasing output for oncoming traffic, but the focus is on the ground directly in front of the vehicle. The Morimoto have the correct beam output. It is very evident in the overhead shots where you see the Morimoto has little light directly in front of the vehicle, but more down road, and AlphaRex is opposite. My guess is, AlphaRex did this since they have a dedicated high beam, unlike the Morimoto that has a dual beam. I can't see a "major" company making a beam pattern completely upside down. They must also be running a higher powered LED to get the down road throw.
For the Alpha Rex headlamps, the DRL sequential Y strip, it would look alot better if did not angle down. Instead just have one single strip angling up like a L long ways. Looks awesome btw!
I have the alpharex pros, so one lamp high beam and the other low beam (not like his where there’s two headlamps top and bottom those are $1k…). With your day time running lights, is it just your top headlight or is it both led strip and top headlight or just led strip? When I run it at night the led strip lights up but I thought the the day time running is just the LED strip. Much appreciated if you can answer.
I bought the morimoto xb led headlights for my 13 Silverado. I also noticed the shadow at the front too. But I also bought the morimoto led fog lights which helped with that shadow. Still wish Morimoto added a second projector or led reflector to help with high beam visibility.
I really, really hate you. I was all set on the Morimoto. Now after seeing the REX, I don't know. Have to really sit down and weigh out the pros and cons on each. Great video. Good thing I have till next tax season to make up my mind. LOL Love the side by side pics of both lights. Thank you for your work.
I have the alpha headlights for my 09 and I get compliments all the time and I am to only one in the Dfw area that has them. I have not seen them on any other truck witch I like because everyone with Chevys have the same headlights and taillights and these are different so that makes the alpha headlight the better ones and it’s the reason why o got them.
I like the morimotos, they seem to have a better controlled beam rather than just blasting light across the entire road. I like having a cut off on the left side that doesn't cast into oncoming traffic 300ft away. I also like pulling up behind people in cars at a stop sign and seeing my lights cut off below the top of their trunk so I'm not lighting them up too badly.
Put ditch lights on it. I bought the whole package, bracket, lights and wiring harness all from eBay for 40.00. I would also remove the Silverado letters and put Texas Edition emblems on. You can also get them from eBay or you could just apply them above the Silverado on sides and tailgate. Looks nice.
The Morimotos design and quality looks much better and cleaner. I have a set on my 2013 Silverado and very impressed. But like you said, “personal preference”! Are you planning to add side steps to your truck and maybe rivet style fender flares? They look great on mine, just color match to make em pop!
Now you need to get some fog lights for that truck. Get the bumper caps and some fog light housings and wire them in. I did it on my 08 base LT Silverado.
Pretty good review, untill the end of the night shots. The high overhead shot didn't show much. The last night shot was not from the same height, and looked like not the same road. Try shooting from the drivers point of view, say 6', onto a road with as many trees signs, etc. Better to judge beam shape, and distance. Also show the beam on a large building from 150', to see the full left to right spread, and sharp the low beam is. What LED bulbs do the use,and current cost. LED's can overheat and burn out. Thanks.
I noticed that as well however it was the same road I just think he was a lot closer to that sign if you watch this again. The High Beam shot was not at the same distance as the Morimoto light. The sign is waaaaay down the road. I wish they were at the exact same distance. That would speak volumes for me. With that said I just purchased the AlphaRex models. Don't have them yet but I need to see them in person and test before I'm a believer. Excellent video all the same. Thanks for doing this and all your other videos are pretty nice as well.
I have spyders headlights. They’re good with halogen not so much led and hid would melt them. But I took mine part and tossed in morimoto projector housings
+1 for the alpharex. I love the quad set up as well, and completely agree how it seems to "raise" the front end. The sideways Y doesn't bother me in the slightest actually (but I preferred the styling of the spyders over the retrofit as well). Only complaint is the amber reflectors. I also prefer alpharex's light pattern. A little less distance with the low beams, but a noticeable increase in side to side visibility. You get plenty of distance, in my opinion when you kick on the hi beams. Plus it looks sick... If they're at the same price point, I go with the alpharex for sure.
Wow! I was so excited clicking the link then I see $980...haha wow I was expecting around $500 price range! Both are Badass, I dig both I have retrofits for my 09. I just feel retro fits have better distance but you get a higher output at close range in those Rex. Just a coin toss in my opinion
Heck yeah man. I’m glad you did the comparison between those two. I honestly never really liked the Morimoto headlights. I didn’t like that they only used one single light for output, and that DRL wasn’t a very bold solid bright light. I just didn’t like it. But the Alpha Rex looks badass at night and I love the start up feature when you first turn the lights on. That’s pretty cool. I do agree with you about the amber on the side. I’d like to maybe customize that and remove the amber out of the lens. But Alpha will be getting my order for those NOVA series headlights.lol.
Great reviews. Question on upgrading to LEDs. I’m seeing lots of people having issues with hyperflashing. On older model trucks, replacing a relay was an easy fix. For the 07-13 and newer, is the only “solve” installing resistors at each light?

I've mentioned it on one of your other videos, I will be more than happy to take the Morimoto off your hands. I'd hate to see such a beautiful headlight go to waste by sitting on a shelf. It is very rare that I use high beams, and there is not enough difference in light on low beam for me to want to use the Alpharex. Style points from me go to Morimoto. I do like the 4 lights on the Alpharex but the rest of the design has to go.
alpharex look nice visually, but the morimoto's are clearly better at night. The Alpha's just splash crazy bright light in front of the truck, the moto's acutally project it down the road for more useable light.

After watching your first video on these headlights, I thought that the DRL module also included a modifier for this. I would definitely have leaned more towards the Morimoto XBs if I had realized this couldn't be changed.
There’s a new updated version of the morimoto s, which address the blank spot in the beam right in front of the truck. I agree the headlight more towards the top looks better but morimoto hands down is better. I just warrantied out my old style for the newer version style and they are so much better than the previous version. The DRL strip on the alpha red looks cheap IMO

In the process of trying to find someone to wrap my grill like yours as well looks good!
I bought a pair of these morimoto headlights and now I am on my third set because my 10 minute drive to and from work had melted the housing on two sets! And they tell me thats why there a warranty! I thought warranties were for just incase a failure happened not because it will. 900 headlights, wow
@@JJDMHONDAVTEC12345R I bought them from Headlight Revolution. And they do have an updated version. Around the projector is chrome to keep it from melting. But to have to change the lights out 3 different times sucked! They are super bright though! But do leave a dark dot right in the middle where they don't shine.
@K onda thanks for replying. I ordered the same headlights off headlight revolution as well. But im not sure if I have the updated version, but im definitely gonna keep an eye on them. Where exactly did it melt ?
@@JJDMHONDAVTEC12345R its super easy to tell if you look at the projector on them. The old ones have the projector sitting inside a black housing piece. The updated one has a chrome shroud like deal right in front of the projector to keep it from melting. Mine melted on two sets in the same spot. Right infront of projector. If its not the chrome pieced headlight I d call them before wasting your time installing them

They're pro series look nice just projector and have half the number of lights. they are like a third of the price.
The old lights the lenses are 2.5 to 3 inches lower than the new ones you can't adjust the new lights to the old ones because they sit higher adjust the them up so it puts the beams out 5 feet farther and you will project the light out higher and farther then do you drone pics you'll see the difference

I like your videos. Hey if you don't want those morimotos no more ill buy them from you I want some for my truck but I can't afford them.
Do you have a shot of the stock lights from above/drone to compare?
What do you do with your old headlights?
morimoto wins for sure. Less foreground light, better hotspot, better distance vision
Are they from Amazon or where can I get them? But I what something like that but for GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab
The old lights the lenses are 2.5 to 3 inches lower than the new ones you can't adjust the new lights to the old ones because they sit higher adjust the them up so it puts the beams out 5 feet farther and you will project the light out higher and farther then do you drone pics you'll see the difference
