There is always a good reason to update, not only because of new features we get (or not) but also because of the improvements on the operating systems, we do not see (fixes).
I usually wait for version X.1, but I was eager to check out these new features, so I upgraded all my devices, then wished I hadn’t. The WiFi on my phone would not stay connected. I found a note on a bulletin board saying to change the phone’s WiFi MAC address setting from rotating to fixed and that resolved the issue. Just FYI.
@@WilliamGallagher To amend my comment, changing the WiFi MAC address setting helped, but I found that a power cycle was also needed to get my phone back to full functionality. Just thought I'd give you a heads up in case you or your other viewers have this trouble. For good measure, I'm changing this setting in MacOS, as. well, and on my iPad. The option shows up under your network ID as "Private Wi-Fi address" in both iOS and MacOS.
Allow me to add a tangential eleventh reason to upgrade to Sequoia. It's not a writing app, but as someone who researches things on the web before I write, Distraction Control in the latest edition of Safari? Love it. I understand websites need advertising, but there is good advertising that doesn't annoy me and others that are just...aggravating. So if you do research like I do for your writing, it can be invaluable.
I must admit I cannot find one use for the iPhone mirroring. Some have said "it can show apps you don't have on your mac". But I can't think of one that needs it. In fact, I see it as a security weakpoint. The other updates seem like they may be useful. But I do find the newer OS or IOS versions seem to be less and less dramatic each year (since Snow Leopard). Updating seems more about keeping security updates and bug fixes.
Certainly this year feels a little hollow because the big new feature, Apple Intelligence, isn't here yet. But as for iPhone mirroring, I agree its use case is limited, yet I so often use it. One very niche example is RUclips: for some reason the version of RUclips Studio on the web lacks one analytic that I record, and the iOS app has it. And in some ways broader, but possible some ways even more niche, iPhone Mirroring makes taking screengrabs of iPhone apps quicker. I take a lot and even in this episode, where you saw the Photos app being scrolled through, that was recorded on the Mac.
Absolutely. I saw that after I made this and it stopped me giving in: I've had the betas on my Mac mini, iPhone and iPad, but I'm hanging on to macOS Sonoma om my main writing Mac. Although admittedly, one reason is that where I am at the moment the internet connection is so poor that just installing the update would put my MacBook Pro out of action for hours.

Good point.
I shall wait longer than a week, but you already knew that from me.
Wise woman.

Phew. I’m relieved it worked out.

Oh, yes! Thank you: good point.

Apparently 18 has been turning some M4 iPads into bricks. They pulled the update. Sometimes it is good to wait for a moment.
