Odd how you make a video about saving battery life and discharge rate, but you don't use 'Dark Mode' which essentially changes all the white pixels to black, reducing ALL the white light that pixels have to make just so you can use your phone, which can easily still be used in a dark mode - saving heaps of battery. Strange you didn't even mention this to people looking for ways to reduce battery power.

Lithium ion likes 20 to 80% generally. I wish the phones battery life scale on the screen was just a calculation 0 to 100% of the 20 to 80% range. So zero on the screen would actually be 20% and 100 would be 80% actual. That would also allow a bit of emergency reserve power just in case.

9:11 Having ringtone and alerts change with buttons does change the volume of your ring tones if you are playing a video or other media, it only does it if you have no media playing and use the buttons. I keep this on for me to be able to change the volume quickly when at work or home for what I need, rather than go into setting everytime. You can test this, go watch a video or listen to music and change the volume. You will notice on the side next to the buttons the level of volume. Now close the app. The use the volume buttons again and you will notice the side bar does not come up, but the ringtone bar will come down from the top and change. You may see a bump on the side bounce as you press the volume buttons. So, you will see both volumes are separated in this fashion as to not conflict with eachother.
9:08 that is not how „change with buttons“ works. There are two separate sound sliders. Just a heads up, and something that's not mentioned in the video is if you turn iCloud backup off, it will prevent seamless iMessage syncing to other devices.
4:14 He turned off “iCloud Backup” but he left on “iCloud Drive” (just above it). This is the data that updates iMessages. Turning off “iCloud Drive” has no effect on iMessages - it is just a backup of your device. UNLESS there is a documented “known issue” or an Apple support page addressing this, would you happen to have the link?
I’ll be honest with no one telling me anything. And just going into my little “tech meditation” when I get a new iPhone it’s wild how many things I’ve done well or knew to do or turn off that you guys do. Tho there was one I didn’t catch. So I never expect to know everything that’s for sure. I just wish I had better confidence sometimes becuase that’s insanely helpful and I’d not tell ppl becuase so many years people put me down about it or never saw value in what I say or a reason to do it. Now is beyond appreciated and I have almost like an aversion to telling ppl really helpful things.
I found one use case of „always“ for gps, namely the weather app. If you opt for „while using/widget“ and use weather widgets, it will do a locate every time you see a widget. Widget on homescreen, opening control center and closing it -> locate. Moving back and forth a page on your Home Screen -> locate. Open notifications and have a weather widget -> locate, closing notifications -> locate. You get the idea. Switching to always results in a 5-20 minute refresh cycle, which reduced the number of localizations drastically(as can be seen in app privacy report). It‘s weird, but it saves me 2-3% a day. Before, the weather widget showed up with 2-3% in my battery settings, now it‘s 1% if it‘s listed at all.

The ringer volume button option adjusts the ringer volume independent to the applications/media volume, when notifications ring and you click on the volume button, it adjusts the ringer volume, vice versa when apps/media is playing back sound the buttons adjust the media volume. I find it very useful for me since I crank my ringer volume at night for alarms and dim it for day-to-day notifications. Been a very useful default feature on android for years, glad I could do it in IOS too.

Thanks alot for the video. This video is talks about what needs to be turned off as part of optimization in the same way could you please make another video and talk about in iOS 18 what needs to be turned on for better performance??
You don't get it. This technique preserves your battery for years. You can give your old iPhones to your grandma and the battery will still be amazing. It's also important to note that it's not just a tip that RUclipsrs invented, Apple themselves recommend doing this. Try reading the battery care section on their website.
@@One.Zero.One101 Yeah, I indeed do not get it. Why would I bother with this? Why do I care that my battery is “preserved for years” when I don’t use 20% of it from the start?
@@One.Zero.One101 Started only charging to 80% on my 15 Pro Max since the beginning, first months the battery health stayed at 100%, but a year later im down to 96%. In my mind this doesn´t make sense since charging till 80% should be way more healthier for the battery...
I've also been curious as to how this is supposed to help preserve battery life. Been having iPhone 6S Plus for about 10 years and the battery health is 67%. Never left it to charge overnight but would charge at least once daily or on alternate days if I use it more when battery level is at 20% and turn off charging when it's 100%. Wondering if I were to stop charging at 80% all these years will the battery life remain at 80% when it's 10 years old?
9:05 if you are in an app and change the volume it doesn't affect the ringer/alarm volume. and its very clear on what volume you are changing when you press the buttons.
I just bought a new 16 plus. I’m on iOS 18.0.1. When I follow you some options do not exist on my phone. For instance: in cellular, there is no ‘cellular data options’ only a cellular data switch on/off. No 5G, LTE, etc. there are other examples. Wondering why.
Please never close this channel bc I just found you... I have always been a Samsung girl... and this Apple phone is truly a mystery to me. Thanks so much!
You will have to go back in settings and turn it back on, I always leave it on, you still need faceid to access the hidden album so you are safe and secure, no need to also have it hidden from the list in photos.
Social media of any kind and email are NEVER going to be installed on my phone. There are a whole bunch of good reasons why, my sanity being preserved is at the top of that list.
Dumb question - I updated to iOS 18, but why don’t I have all of the options you have mentioned? My iPhone is older - it’s a 12 Pro Max & I’m waiting for my new 16 Pro Max to arrive from Apple.
I was kinda skeptical, didn’t know your channel before. But after couple of minutes, I realized that once upon a time I browsed IOS settings and turned off like half of your suggestions. To be clear, the way the “Ringtone and Alerts > Change with Buttons” function actually works is that the buttons change whichever volume is currently most relevant; if you have a video playing or a game open, it’s the regular volume. If not, it’s the ringer volume. And you can see which volume you’re changing.
unless Siri’s volume somehow goes super saiyan with a volume of over 9000 that you can’t adjust no matter the method, even with the volume & ringers all the way off lol
I saw another comment stating that the slider NOT appearing may have something to do with battery health. I think that may be correct. I have an iPhone 12 mini with 79% battery health, and I don’t have the slider either.

Fantastic and thorough video! As someone who has never owned an Apple device (since an iPod touch), this video was useful to show what to disable, and how to find the settings.
Thanks for the info. Recommend taking your face off more often and leave the setting screens on longer so we can see what you are talking about. Appreciate it!
Or you can just charge to 100% and get on with your life. People are so neurotic when it comes to battery health, it's just ridiculous. Charging cycles are just one factor. People bring their phones everywhere -from very hot environments to extremely cold environments and somehow they don't understand that this will also degrade their batteries. I'd say use the phone as it should be used and replace the battery when it is time. No matter how well you treat it the battery won't last forever.
I have an iPhone 11 I bought when they first came out. I always let it go below 20% (sometimes as low as 2%!) then I charge it to 100% always. A friend has an app that says I’ve charged my battery now I recall it said about 450 times - my battery health is still at 86%! You know what protects your battery? Keeping your phone COLD. I keep it in my handbag in my freezing car boot whilst at work, I keep it in my handbag in my freezing hallway cupboard when it’s at home…when I’m using it, I regularly place it on a cold marble slab I have on my coffee table to cool it down as I feel it warming up…. Keeping your phone in your pocket and in warm places is what harms your battery health, not charging to 100%, imho✌🏻
Also it’s wild how I have to go into every app and remember when I download new ones to turn off SIRI AND SEARCH. And “LEARN FROM THIS” it will use your google DOCS on your phone or any app. To learn from everything. I never use it. So unless you love Siri which I literally never have. I turn it all off. But it’s insanely time consuming when you get a new phone to remember all this. And their shifty little changes that make it harder to remember where to go or to find. There is also one weirdly worded things I will have to find it again. Would love to have you guys clarify things. So thanks for that privacy one to turn it off. And their ambiguous wording. for real it is confusing 🙏🏼
I don’t think you’re right about the ‘change ringtone and alert volume with buttons’ setting. It only changes with buttons when media isn’t playing, so when you reduce volume when watching a RUclips video, your alarm volume will not change. Hope this helps :)
Very true! The reason I ended up changing it is because when something is playing and I press it too soon it adjust the ring tone volume, THEN when I try to change it back the volume only effects the media playing. It was super annoying to me and more beneficial to set it and forget it since I use the silent button frequently.
Exactly this. You can only adjust your ringtone/alarm volume if you have NO OTHER MEDIA playing. The phone even confirms this for you. When you adjust volume while playing a game/watching a video/listening to music, it'll show a volume slider on the left side of the screen next to the volume buttons. When you adjust the volume of the ringer/alarm, it'll appear at the TOP of the screen and show "ringer."
I can not get my ringtone to be silent at all after updating to 18. Even in Do not disturb focus mode, it rings. I can get it really low but not silent and if I do that the alarm is also really low
Thanks! This was awesome! I was sitting at work today watching my battery getting drained so fast and it wasn’t a fun feeling, but no more of that now🙌🏻

So leave this setting on, it is extremely convenient
I always make sure I follow these steps and since then I’ve always had great battery life.
I never comment, but after turning off these settings, my battery is lasting so much longer! (my battery was running out at around 7 pm and yesterday it lasted well beyond 11 pm, with much more usage). I came to find many things were running constantly on the background. Thank you guys!
UNLESS there is a documented “known issue” or an Apple support page addressing this, would you happen to have the link?
please NEVER stop making videos like this one

Dude… I never knew the “sounds change with buttons”
OFF!!!! You are the man!!!
I discovered that setting a couple years ago. Life changing because I definitely missed a few alarms.
OH FINALLY THAT BATTERY SETTING IS WHAT I NEED!!!!!
But only for Iphone 15

Thanks a million for this upload! For the 1st time ever, I switched from Galaxy to iPhone and I’m (quite literally) learning everything from scratch like a child in Kindergarten…. This may prove to be the most useful phone video I have ever watched! Cheers from Florida!!!
Wow! Started watching this and followed everything I had to turn off while at work. Very helpful and clear explanations on why certain settings must be turned off. Appreciate the work! Earned a new subscriber.
I still have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and as long as they continue to let me update it I’ll continue to use that phone and not waste money on a new phone. That’s all I really have to!
I bought 3 weeks ago and my battery is 97% why😢 are we same?
I would have as well, if it hasn’t got stolen last year. I loved that phone.
I have the 11 and plan on using it as long as possible
@@Hanna__qalbi275the iPhone 12 lineup hah terrible batteries. I’m sitting at 78% on my 12 pro max but granted I’ve used it since 2020

I’m not seeing Cellular, or the Battery Charging Slider in Battery. Running iOS 18.1.1 on a 14 Pro Max. Uh-oh..?
Me neither
maybe you're just using an ipad they usually don't have those settings ^-^
I believe it's only on available on newer phone models
The ringer volume button option adjusts the ringer volume independent to the applications/media volume, when notifications ring and you click on the volume button, it adjusts the ringer volume, vice versa when apps/media is playing back sound the buttons adjust the media volume. I find it very useful for me since I crank my ringer volume at night for alarms and dim it for day-to-day notifications. Been a very useful default feature on android for years, glad I could do it in IOS too.

Hi, Thank you for your wonderful video. Why I can’t see cellular ( 3:08 ) in my iPhone settings. I can only see “Mobile” and there is no option to change 4G or 5G 😢

Thanks alot for the video. This video is talks about what needs to be turned off as part of optimization in the same way could you please make another video and talk about in iOS 18 what needs to be turned on for better performance??
This battery charging is available only from iphone 15? I dont have it on 14 pro
15pro only
15 plus here and is available for me.
iPhone 13/iOS 18 here and I don't have it, dam it.....
I wonder if it depends on 18.1 because 18.0 doesn't have intelligence.
I got a normal 15 and it works
So instead of waiting couple years to degrade my battery to 80%, I can have 80% capacity from day one 😂
If you use the phone the same amount of time, your charging cycles won´t change. I wonder if apple bases their SoH estimation mainly on that number.
Thank you. New to the iPhone and learning a little more everyday
Camera settings video please! Your advice is always helpful, thanks.
Thanks you very much. Just walked through this helping my 70 yo mother set up her phone and have better battery and less worries.
Excellent video as always, would love to see similar video on ipad ios 18....
Just guessing it's because the video is about 18.1... by now you've probably updated to 18.1, right?
Yup, figured that out later. Thanks.
Please never close this channel bc I just found you... I have always been a Samsung girl... and this Apple phone is truly a mystery to me. Thanks so much!
17:02 so if you turn this hidden album switch off, how do I access that album?
How
Go back n turn it on
You will have to go back in settings and turn it back on, I always leave it on, you still need faceid to access the hidden album so you are safe and secure, no need to also have it hidden from the list in photos.
You do a superb job at presenting these videos, and watching them makes learning about my Apple devices a pleasure. Thank you.
Social media of any kind and email are NEVER going to be installed on my phone. There are a whole bunch of good reasons why, my sanity being preserved is at the top of that list.
I hate what they did to the photos
Me too!!! Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke.
Dumb question - I updated to iOS 18, but why don’t I have all of the options you have mentioned? My iPhone is older - it’s a 12 Pro Max & I’m waiting for my new 16 Pro Max to arrive from Apple.
You’re screwed
I was kinda skeptical, didn’t know your channel before. But after couple of minutes, I realized that once upon a time I browsed IOS settings and turned off like half of your suggestions. I kept watching and it was an eye-opener - I remember I used to dig into “billions” of settings in android, and finally realized that IOS is not much better different with default settings. Thank you, you deserved my like and subscribe. 🎉
Thank you so much ! Nice to see you back
My battery doesn’t have a slider option.

Great video. I followed through the whole thing.
Please make a video like this but for MacOS Sequoia!
9:46 Looks like “Always on Display” is not on iPhone 12 Pro iOS 18 because I don’t see it.
Always on display didn’t exist on iOS til the iPhone 14 Pro
It's only on 14 pro and up. But you dont really want this thing turned on, most people dont need it and it drains your battery. I know he said it doesnt use much but fact is it uses enough for you to notice so just keep it turned off.
This is such a good video. I already had about half the settings changed as suggested, but I learned about a lot more. Even more importantly, I can share this video with friends and family who aren't as concerned about privacy as I am. Since they are already clicking through the settings to follow along with your suggestions, it will be easier than convincing them to dig through on their own. Much appreciated!

I charge my phone only upto 91% but still in one year my maximum capacity fell down to 89%
Try not to go under 20% either. Did you buy the phone second hand? Or new out of the store?

Not updating to 18 until 18..1 comes out , usually glitches with these upsides,
if you don’t have the slider just put it on 80% it’s not a big deal
I can’t find it 0:25
neither can I. maybe it is for new versions of Iphone. Mine is 12
Mine is a 14 pro max none here ether.
Can confirm feature is not in iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Me to
Beacuse its only supported on 15's and 16's
Correction: I have 79% battery maximum capacity.
My friend has iphone 14 promax 88% battery and no slider bar.
@@vincentneibert1333 I do recommend you to change your battery since iOS downperformance the system itself if its less than 85% of battery to keep the battery alive and you might notice it slower than when you bought it.

📱 THANK YOU so much for the list of instructions. You are my go-to channel when I updated the iOS on my phone. 📱
Fantastic and thorough video! As someone who has never owned an Apple device (since an iPod touch), this video was useful to show what to disable, and how to find the settings.
5G Standalone does not prevent the phone from using LTE. It is an upgrade available on some carrier’s 5G networks. Better to leave it how you find it.
You saved all that battery life JUST to use always on. 😂
Yeah was surprised with that as well
Thanks for the info.
Recommend taking your face off more often and leave the setting screens on longer so we can see what you are talking about. Appreciate it!
So, buy the IPhone 16 Pro Max because it has a bigger battery that you can charge to only 90% and still get a decent amount of usage? 🤔😉
@@dm8579i use my 11 pro max till now almost 5 years, my batt health 85%, what im doing everyday, charge it until full 100%…

0:25 i don't have charging why???
I also can’t find this! If you figure it out I’d love to know!
That starts from iPhone 15
Bro i have the 14 pro and i d’ont have it
I have an iPhone 11 I bought when they first came out.
The bit about the alarm clock was very helpful didn’t realise 😺👍🙏
15 plus here, the battery slider works for me.
Exactly, had the same thought
He’s not right about the system services as well
My OCD hates my guts when i don’t let it charge to 100
😬🫣
Thanks! This was awesome! I was sitting at work today watching my battery getting drained so fast and it wasn’t a fun feeling, but no more of that now🙌🏻
