- Thanks for watching this new episode of Jon's Tone Chronicles! This one is all about the Ibanez M80M Meshuggah signature guitar with the Lundgren M8 pickup, into my Peavey Invective 120 and an OwnHammer Workhorse V30 Djent IR. Super thick and heavy tones!

This video was clearly recorded before I got my 9-string ;) Still, sounds pretty sick!
Makes more sense for Meshuggah to be fair.
You should try drop dada. Or ebeb. When you chug it is so good!
It sounds extremely sick buddy
I wish so much that you would put out your original songs! I love your riff style so much. The 4 songs on Spotify are great but I yearn for more.
Might be one of the best 8 string guitar tones I've ever heard
Awesome! Cheers mate!
This is like my "djent" dream rig, youre such an underrated guitarrist too! Sick riffs.
Thank you!
Yeah. For me, replace the Invective with a VH4 and a matching Diezel cab with V30s and I’ll be set to Djent.
This or the meshuggah amp by fortin but same here
Damn dude im shocked at how clear that e flat is. Really great job dialing this in.
Thanks! The guitar, pickup and amp help!
I love you channel 😭😭😭. My god the tones are always killer from the most metal to rock to clean.
@@SonicDriveStudio its the hands you humble devil
This is awesome! Keep up the good work Jon!
Thanks!
So much clarity with that invective. What a beast of a guitar. I wonder if they make an invective cab IR. Would be interesting....anyways. Awesome awesome riffs as always!
Sounded great. Definitely digging that Invective amp!!
Wow so much monstrosity , Peavey always rules , another awesome Vlog as always, so many thanks man, Keep up the good work 🤘🏻🔥
Sounds sick. Well done.
I can't even fully express how AMAZING this sounds. OMG
Thanks! :)
This sounded killer!
Holy shit! Killer riffs and killer tones!!!
Thank you!
Great stuff! Never played 7 or 8 string, but I am loving it.
Cheers! 8 (and 9) strings are so much fun!
Another impressive exhibition, Jon.
Thank you!
You are the GOAT of reviewers.
Sounds filthy. I'm really tossing and turning on the Stephen Carpenter Red Sparkle 8. I'm a huge Deftones fan and while I've never spent a lot of time with an 8 string, I love bands like Meshuggah and Sleep Token that utilize that sound.
Both are sooo good! For different reasons...
@@SonicDriveStudio How has the intonation and stuff been on yours? I doubt its remotely comparable but I had a bit of a nightmare with a MKH Epiphone 7 string, I suppose the longer scale helps keep the lower strings in tune?
@@Aaron_French great on both guitars tbh!
I use mostly 7 strings. I have one tuned to Double Drop D, which has the 7th string one octave down. Sounds similar to an 8 string. I am happy with 7 string.
Duuuuuude!. That was tight a/f!.
He definitely got to do more videos like this. I had an eight string guitar before but I wasn’t happy with the guitar tones I was getting but I was going into a solid state amplifier and I did not use the equalizer correct. I’m looking to get back into it.
Killer riffs right here
Sick!!
I’m sold, I’m getting it
Very sick and fat Djent sound. One of the best ive heard so far. Ive got an video idea for you. Do a complete sick Les Paul vintage setup from the 50s and 60s.
I've been thinking about getting lundgren pickups for my 8 strings
Fire track dude🔥🔥 So brown I had to change my pants!
Just grabbed a Lundgren M7. Sounds killer.
This guitar is sick. I was looking at it when shopping for 8 strings. I might have saved for it if it had the neck pickup. I know most wouldn't use it but I would lol. I got the Jackson Dinky. Good for my first I feel can't wait for it to get here!
YEAH MAN.
This tone and writing brings me back to your old solo stuff way back, the Jon Symons project, is that stuff still floating around anywhere? Sick tone and writing dude
Thanks mate! That stuff is gone but it had some cool songs. I redid the song Adore on the channel, last year or 2 years ago or so...
@@SonicDriveStudio Awesome ill have to check it out! I found you all the way back on the axe fx 2 boards when i was like 15 so its awesome to see you doing your thing still and so much more all these years later. Cheers!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Get my Invective next week🤘
Dirty and Brutal 🤘🏼
Your videos are rad! You are like my brother from another mother, heavy music, start wars, G.A.S lol. What gauge string did you use for the low E flat?
Hello Jon! I hope you're doing well. Just a question, which would be the similar IR in Heavy hitters 1 compared with the DJNT 412 on workhorse? That IR sounds pretty awesome. Cheers bro!!
Loved it, Jon. ...As always! Question: How are you delivering the LB-2 to Helix Native? I run my LB-2 to input 2 of the Axe-FX III and just load up whatever IR I need. But I'd be interested to hear how you go about it. Rock!
Sometimes I load the IRs into the Fractal but other times I disable the IR and load it in Native itself. Just by turning off the cab block and turning it on in the daw.
@@SonicDriveStudio Thanks. Just wondering how you're feeding it to your DAW. I'm guessing there's a soundcard involved, but which one?
Yes
This is the third time I say it….. bloody BRUUUUTAL!!!
I don't have enough C's for how THICC that was. I can only imagine that through a 4X12...
Nice
I play The Invective MH and a rga8 with Seymore Duncan Blackouts 😈🤘🏻. Rhis is the only tone i need👍🏻
Nice djenty thicc chonky sound, love ur vids btw
Thank you!
I tuned my 8 string to double drop D and it's a blast. I don't even need a bass guitar now lol
Haha!! Sweeet!
OOOOOOHHHHHHH YAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSS YAAAAAASSSSSSS YAAAAAAASSSSSSS 🤘😬🤘
YAAAAASSSSSSSSS! :)
This guitar sounds huge but also very clear. I'm considering buying my first 8 string guitar and I'm particularly interested in playing in drop Eb tuning. I'm thinking of buying Ibanez RG80F-IPT since it is not too pricey and it looks classy in my opinion. But it has a 27" scale length and I'm a bit worried if it could handle the drop Eb tuning since I've heard people recommending longer scale length for that tuning. Do you think 27" would be enough for drop Eb if I use thicker strings or would the lowest string be too loose and muddy?
Hmmm for drop Eb I do recommend a longer scale length tbh
Love the into track! I’ve got the same guitar. What strings do you use for your m80m? Most strings seem to be too short for the scale.
Elixir! .070 bass string and .054 for the low Bb. Set of 9s for the rest.
What strings did you use? I'm thinking about buying the m80m on this demo alone
Alright i gotta get one of these specifically for my 9 string cause science
Yup
Thanks for your tests !
I have a question: I'm looking for a lunchbox amp that could be quite close to a Diezel VH4 used by Adam Jones. I'm aware, I can't get very close to his sound but I also would like to work with a EQ and some boost pedals. Which amp would you recommend please ? I personally chose a Mesa Mini Rectifier or an Orange Jim Root. Still wondering...
Hmmm Mini Rectifier is great indeed. The Jim Root is great but not very VH4-ish... PRS MT15 could work too or one of the mini Peavey amps...
@@SonicDriveStudio Thanks a lot, yes I thought about the MT15 too. Ok for the Jim Root. Good to know it.
How is the locking system? I hear people hate it.
I would like to hear a Diesel amp on your channel.
Haha never say never. I never thought I'd get an 8 string. I just ordered my first
Any opinions about the Suhr Reactive Load vs the Fractal Reactive Load box? I want to pick one up soon and am trying to decide between these two.
Haven't tried it but I've heard great things
Already a like from the title
Damn!!!!!!
I hope that was a good damn?? ;)
Would like to see an ENGL E570 review.
Wouldn't mind reviewing more ENGL!
This is killer. What gauge string were you using for the low Eb? I have a strandberg boden 8 string which is a 28inch on the lowest string, with a 74 on it. But I'm wrestling between a quick attack of a thinner string VS the tension, but woofiness that a thicker string brings.
Good question, wish he'd answer it haha
.70 elixir
Looks like a Diezel amp !
Im considering getting this amp. Should i? Cant decide between invective or evh 100 watt stealth
I own both - originally intended to swap the Invective out for the EVH but now havin them both realize they definitely do things the other one can’t - so I had to keep both… not helping I know… but for me they are very different in aggression, compression and nastiness 🤷🏻♂️
Never gonna get rid of it?
How much you want for it? ;)
All jokes aside, damn this sounds ENORMOUS
Hey, if you don’t mind me asking when you say you tuned your guitar to Eb do you mean like half step down or Eb standard like the 8th string is an Eb (I think this ends up working out to be C# standard, could be wrong though)?
Half step down plus the low string dropped one whole step
@@SonicDriveStudio oh ok, wonderful! Thank you so much! I’ve been considering going down to C# standard with my 8 string BECAUSE of this video and I wanted to be 10000% sure I was correct and not assuming something
I'm genuinely curious: this guitar has 29.4" scale length across all strings. Does that not limit or even cripple your solo ability? I have a 7 string with a 26" scale length and I am only content with it in standard tuning and as far as solo-ing is concerned it feels less comfortable than my 25.5" Charvel but tolerable.
the genre changes the style. you dont need to hold the whole neck while two hand tapping...
How do you record the bass in your mix ? It always sounds huuuge
Just regular old bass. I can do a video on my bass sound soon...
Would you also recommend the Invective for standard or Eb tuning?
Absolutely!
If you've tuned the first string to E, have you had it breaking from bends on that 29.4" scale length often?
No
@@SonicDriveStudio Oh good, thank you.
This video is illegal 🤘
I have this guitar and was just ready to sell it but now I need an Invective instead. Crap!
This song would be perfect in doom 🔥🤪🤘🏻
Oops, I nailed it again (Jon's Beers)
You need to calm down it's like 6:30 am where I'm at
Wish you did some more riffs, to hear the sound solo and not in the mix, also only guitars without drums and stuff like that.
I have a Peavey Invective.120 and an Invective.412 cabinet for sale as a bundle. If someone want one. 1 Year old Barely Used.
Filthy! Awesome!
So funny as a Norwegian American who speaks 7 languages it’s so funny for me to hear a euro accent talking like an American news person or salesman hahahah
You down time so low or SOLO? 😂
0:36 The only thing that's illegal and in need of calling the bass-police is playing it with a pick... :-3
It sounds better though... Just saying
wait! I thought you had a 9 string?!
Haha yes, this was recorded a week before I got my 9
ooof
*bassist reporting in*
Drop Eb? Shiyet, call me when you go double drop D
Clearly you made this video before you made and uploaded your 9 string video. lol
Haha yeah!

Lol a guitar tuned lower than the bassist. Weve gone too low boys
I don't like 8 string guitars, 6 and 7 at the most.
You don't have to like them :)
This tone sounds like a grown up emo kid.
I love you, but your riff creativity suffers when you add strings.
"body wood helped with the tone" Lol I just finished a video completely demystifying that! Body+fretboard+neck woods have no effect for ELECTRIC guitar. They obviously still matter on an acoustic but don't waste your time on an electric!
