Do NOT EVER SQUEEZE an avocado. It's a CRIME! Treat it as gentle as baby bottoms. People like you leave other customers in the supermarket with black thumbprints in their avocado. Don't squeezing the hell out of them! D@mn! Oh well you can squeeze them as hard as you want, AFTER you bought them.

I never buy ripe avocados, so it's not my thumbprints you are finding on your avocados. I've found black areas buying unripe avocados. Handling, shipping, and storage prior to sale are equally important.

You can also put the avocado in a dark place for ripening naturally

Avocados will even ripen in the refrigerator given enough time. Thanks for sharing.

ok so I will get the avocado from the avocado shop and drive home with my avocado ensuring my avocado doesn't fall off the dash & thus squash my avocado as I love avocado so much I would be so disappointed if my avocado spoiled & thus I would have to go & buy another avocado from the avocado shop & hope the avocado salesman reccommended the correct avocado else I would have to go to another avocado shop & hope that avocado salesman sold me the correct avocado otherwise I wouldn't be able to have avocado for dinner that night and would have to have something other than avocado which is a real pity as I love avocado so much. In fact there is nothing I love more than avocado..

When buying ripe avocados, it can pay to inspect them more closely like an other fruit or vegetables. It is not uncommon finding moldy fruit or wilted produce. In the U.S., farm fresh seldom means produce is fresh off the farm. A Chilean avocado had a long journey.
