- British Airways Boeing 757-200 G-CPER, delivered in 1997 - The 757 is an authentic rocket. it literally pushed us all back against the seatbacks with a great engine spool up sound and then soared at a very steep angle until we supposedly reached 5000 ft.
A Qantas and a Singapore Airlines A380s can be seen and also an engine vortex before entering the runway.
The last BA 757s were withdrawn from the fleet (actually sold to Fed Ex) towards the end of October 2010, roughly 6 months after this video was shot, and replaced by A320s and A321s.
This was a scheduled flight between London Heathrow (LHR) and Barcelona-El Prat (BCN). Due to the industrial action that was taking place those days, more capacity was needed to allocate passengers from cancelled flights. Therefore, the original plane for this flight, an A319 was switched for this B757.
Unfortunately I didn't have an HD camera at that time.
Enjoy it and feel free to leave your comments!

And THAT is why this is my absolute fav aircraft and engine. The world is going to be a much sadder place when they are gone. Enjoy them while you can, fellow 757 lovers. :)
Indeed, it's a great aircraft
Happy Birthday 757!
Well they still kept it on openskies transatlantic flights, I would love to be 9 hours on my favorite airplane :)
The A350 is back with some of it though!
turbofanlover same here, it was on a 757 that I became interested in aviation, and still remains my favorite plane! I hope they keep them in service for a while.
WOW!!!! that was a really fast takeoff and the climb was insane!! Must have been like 3200 feet per minute!
I just LOVE that RB211 buzzsaw sound at take off. The 757 and RB211 are an unbeatable combination.
It's been more than 10 years since I uploaded this video. In 2012 this plane was converted into a freighter aircraft and has been flying with FedEx since then.
One of the few videos you can 'feel' the acceleration by just watching.
My first ever flight was on a 757 and loved the take-off.
Been disappointed by every other take-off since and always think back to that 757. Great times.
757s are quite capable of doing that, yeah. These things' critical angle of attack is crazy, combined with two engines that might very well be too powerful for this aircraft... It's crazy, man.
A fighter aircraft in the disguise of a passenger carrier. Powerful, well built, yet sleek.
Thanks to all of you who have shared this video for the 757's 34th birthday! Those shares have translated into thousands of new views.
I first watched this video 9 years ago and I still love it to this day! The 757-200 is 1 of my most favourite aircraft and it will be such a sad day when they will no longer be flying!
RB 2-11's are legendary engines!! Best turbofans ever built in my opinion. 👌🏼
I loved the 757. Used to fly a lot between 1986 to 1991 mostly BA on 757's, look out and see RR on the engine cowlings was a great sight. The LHR to Belfast shuttle was always good, nothing in the hold / fast take off.
I remember when they came into service in 83. The Belfast - LHR route came over my house (still does as I live near the Wallasey beacon). I remember the controller, when the pilot asked for FL390, saying "If you can get up there that's fine by me. You'll be out of my way for the lower aircraft"! This was pre-RSVM days of course.
Beautiful aircraft. I've got 19 flights logged on them.
@pkaplan747 this is the best 757 takeoff video I've ever seen. My personal favorite part of flying is hearing that engine spool up and you made it perfect. Thankyou for bringing back all my memories of flying!
An ancestor to the Trent family of engines . Awesome sound .
:)
that last minute of footage was stunning, the engines are so quiet and the best view ever!!
The best part of any flight has to be breaking through the dingy gray clouds and suddenly appearing in perfectly blue clean sky, LOVE IT!
The first time i was in a 757 was on a Finnair flight from Palma de Mallorca do Oulu, Finland, and i remember i got dizzy because the climb was SUPER steep, i had been in planes MANY MANY times before but never on a 757, it felt like a Rollercoaster and the noise is great too
Before I was into aviation and understand things like I do, I used to freak out when they reduced the engine power durning the climb. I would think something was wrong. Hated it!
Edward Rudisill I love flying and love airplanes. But I still hate it heheh
I would claw my dads hand because I was afraid. And still do, mind telling me what happened?
+Edward Rudisill
Haha, yeah that's how i feel exactly. Still have a hate/love relationship with flying. But now I know what standard procedures/actions like these are.
Boeing738Fan I think you mean thrust at 80% that's the max for takeoff~ only time engine works harder is to maintain proper lift during landing
@@BeatzPlaysMC Thrust is lowered to save fuel and wear and tear on the engines, as you don't need as much engine power to climb as you do to takeoff
The sound is amazing, but the climb-out rate is unbelievable. Added to my favs, awesome video!!!
A lightly loaded 757 and a maximum climb after takeoff gives real meaning to the expression "like a bat out of hell"-it's great! And you captured it well, thanks!
That really was a steep climb out!! Wow! 757 the best.
It was indeed!
Loved that baby. She was loud and she was proud
It's too bad none of the replacements are quite magnificent as this beauty
737-900ER and A321 simply doesn't cut it
757s always had this really cool steep climb along with the big sister 767-200s. Designed to get out of Busy, High and Tight airports quickly...totally awesome as the G-force held you back in your seat.
I love the 787, can't wait to fly on one, one of the most beautiful aircraft in the skies today, along with the 747. I flew on an Air France A380, and that was very quiet, it didn't even feel like we were moving
I used to fly on SAS DC-9 and later MD's from LHR to CPH. One day I took BA's 757 and was BLOWN AWAY by the sheer climb power of this beast!
757s are rockets!
Kick ass plane. my dad used to fly on them for BA, and the 767 - 300 fleet. Was at gatwick the other week and some of BA's 757's are all just sitting there by the hanger doing nothing. he a got a little teary bless him. Sick video! Rolls Royce engines For the win!
Hi! Just replying from my main account :) The actual De-Rate occurs exactly at 2:18, what you hear at 4:10 is simply the autothrottle adjusting the engine thrust accordingly to the climb rate etc that the pilots would have programmed in etc.
De-rates always occur shortly after takeoff to save the stress on the engine :)
I am amazed with the aviation and I intend to follow pilot's career and this video showed me that my place is near the airplanes.... Great video
Thanks for sharing! The quite early, steep take off gave a great overview of T5 and the other international gates.
Sweet! Wicked video. One thing I love about the 757 is the way it doesn't "Take off" it LAUNCHES itself off of the runway with rediculous ease :)
If you ever had to fly in and around big storms, like springtime in the American midwest, the 757 was so reassuring.
Woow really deep roar
Excellent video, and along with the extensive ariel view of Heathrow, makes this more enjoyable.
Great video; I have flown on BA 757's for many years as a passenger and love to hear those Rolls Royce engines purring away!
What a Sound! I love those RB-211s
RB211.... Let's rock! Unmistakable sound!
Are you talking about assumed temperature derating? The point at 2:18 is just the point at which the thrust is reduced from TO/GA to climb power - the derate itself is achieved by setting the TO/GA to a certain percentage of the maximum power setting, by entering an 'assumed temperature' into the FMC that is higher than the actual air temperature. The assumed temp is calculated based on runway length, QNH, actual air temperature and TOW, and derates of up to 20% of max thrust are possible.
Wow ,,, great video, well done, sure climbs like a homesick angel.
Flew two of the Icelandair 757s back in October, including the 300 series and TF-FIO. Excellent aircraft and the power on take off on the 300 series (FIX) is staggering. Despite being very nearly full, we stormed into the sky with little effort, being pushed back into the seat; great aircraft!
Fabulous! That thing went upward like a homesick angel!!
So sad to see these beauties all gone now. :(
What a lovely top engine performance.
Fantastic video.
Thanks 🙏👍
@mightyvictoriestv2371 thanks! That was nearly 15 years ago!
Most powerful Boeing ever built in IMO. The engine to body ratio is off the charts, and apparently they engines were so powerful, they had to space the timing of the plane taking off after it to wait longer, cause this plane was responsible for some serious turbulence for planes taking off right after after it, and even cause one plane to crash.
The reason for the steep departure is most likely due to the SID and noise abatement used at London Heathrow. Aircraft are required to hit 4000 ft by the time they reach the Woodley NDB. Then its on to 6000 feet halfway to the Compton VOR.
Realy great ! I I´ve been on a BA 742 too. I was booked on a flight from LHR to ORD. It was the opposite from the take-off shown here. It felt endless and the people on board got nervous. The Jumbo took off right at the end of the runway ! That was realy a bit scary. You had the feeling that it was not a plane you were sitting in, it felt like a bus ! :-) So it is good to see that an old 742 is still able to make a powerfull start and climb... ;-)
The PW engines are actually slightly more fuel efficient.
-Funny trivia about the RB-211 used on the 757: The tip of the intake "bullet" is made of green rubber. It is a cone about 2 inches long and about as wide at the base, and this rubber is fairly soft, you can easily bend it with your finger. This is done for anti-ice reasons; The rubber nose vibrates around all the time, and as such, no ice can form.
Steep take off, but at least he didn't bank at a crazy angle at the same time...it actually looked like it was pretty level the whole time!
this video compares awesomeness with more awesomeness
I miss these British Airways 757's already! I feel like they were retired a bit early. Atleast i've gotten to fly on one before
Nice SAS md-87 in the start of the film.. lovely sound of the engines while heading down the runway. SAS 4 -ever :D!
that is an outrageously steep take off!!!
Why are the 757s the ones that stand out so much when it comes to engine noise? You literally can tell it is a 757 just by how it sounds at take-off and climb.
Rolls Royce Engines!
great video of the plane climbing thru the clouds to get om top.
Last time I saw this plane, I was working for BA at gatwick and it was missing its port engine. As far as I am aware, it was being sold to FedEx for them to use as a cargo plane.
Jeez that rate of climb, those engines must be something else.
@Zickcermacity Thanks...I actually wanted to film a plane taking off and not the landscape around ;) Definitely there will be more coming!
Ein wunderschöner Jet die 757. und dann in British Airways Farben. Really Beautiful
Thank you so much you don't even know how safe that makes me feel! I am going on Sunday. You made me feel better about flying. Wish me luck because i'm going early tomorrow!
Hiss idle power, Howl 28% power, Whine Half Power, Growl FULL POWER! Love the RB211-535
This is a great video. I love the way that 757 'launch' themselves off of a runway X)
My first flight was in a 757(Air2000 from birmingham uk to tenerife) and i remember thinking is this really what a takeoff is like!?...i couldnt believe the noise and the power as it never looks as fast from the outside but the pilot pointed the nose up to what i felt like 45°! It honestly felt more like a rocket than an airplane.
Badass Rolls. The whole thing eclipses the price of the ticket 10X.
i always find it hard to believe that 3:57 is what is above the clouds. it's so beautiful and clean looking!
I flew on the 787 many times and its a amazing high tech aircraft that is very quiet.
This and the a300 are my favourite planes. The noise to those Rolls Royces :D
the part were you broke through the clouds was awsome
20 second takeoff roll!
@whoax this is music to my ears and i just love it! i could listen to this over and over and over again, 1:25-1:35 its almost like an angry roar! Beautiful RR RB211 being put to good work!
The 757 is a powerful aircraft, especially when used for Europe services since it is quite light on fuel.
I wonder if it has a superior thrust to weight ratio than the 767 since I was told by a check captain that the 767 has the highest thrust to weight ratio....
This video is really great, the 757's have such a powerful take off! I was lucky enough to get a picture in CPET's flight deck a month before retirement.
@Keelz7196 that was the water vaper from the ground being sucked into the engine. I was in a 777 going to Tokyo and the samething happened. its just water just gets sucked into the engine and it looks like a tornado. its pretty cool
WOW,dat sound gave an eargasm.
Ein aussergewöhnlich schönes Flugzeug die 757. Beautiful and Full of Power.
@scott5175 Not really, you should check the seat map at BA's website.
Thanks for this. Will tell you know, taking for the first time a 752, for a LFPO-KEWR tomorrow (a full biz configuration, so 60 pax max). "Houston, ready for departure."
great video. love the sound. 757 rocks
thanks!
Wow....I like to see little tornado below jet engine (0:10)...
Excellent! 10/10
Love the sound of these During Take off!
2 A380's in the backround!
Damn that was powerfull!!
Thanks! There are 2 new if you check my channel. More will be coming as long as I have the time to edit and upload them. Subscribe to keep updated and click on the ads please.
The 757 is a nice aircraft and its got a good range for a medium hull aircraft AA use them on their dallas and chicago routs from manchester ive even been on one to jamaica with thomson
+Simon Clark They were/are a workhorse for AA. Others U.S. carriers used them well, as the 757 was essentially suited to U.S. purposes quite well. One hell of an 'all-rounder'. Trans-Atlantic capable, a beast with cargo, large enough and powerful enough to bear a larger passenger/range and still have the commanding power of engines that can then dedicate some of that performance on issues like higher altitude operations, hot/high performances, short runway capabilities. Some of the highlights; AA's use of 757s to Latin America and the very different operations that it handled. Tegucigalpa (nightmare approach), Cali (high, mountainous. scary approach systems leading to a notable AA 757 crash), Manaus (landing in the jungle...), St. Maarten (you'll get whiplash with the jetblast if at Maho), and did so for years, profitably with AA using the capabilities to have as large of a coach cabin as was possible until only recently with cabin 'improvements', a large business class cabin (the largest on a narrow-bodied aircraft), a belly full of cargo, and fierce performance.
Sukhrajah
I love the 757 a lot of english airlines use it especially charter airlines such as jet2 and thomson in comparison to the airbus A320 the 757 is bigger , faster climbs higher and is more fual efficient than the A320.
+Sukhrajah You're using past tense too much. Airlines in the U.S. still have massive 757 fleets.
Justin Hopkins
Indeed, but most are being retired. With every passing month (as each comes closer and closer to heavy checks) the fleets shrink.
In many cases - replacement aircraft are also arriving (as well as, with all US3 undergoing cabin renovations/refits/new brand launches) - so the incentive is there to make changes now.
Will they be working with U.S. fleets into the future? Yes. Sadly, less and less - though.
You're right for correcting me though. Haha, I am going to weep like a child when they leave! Thank God, Buddha and AA that they still fly them! I'm on one every chance I get! Good news; AA is refitting a few that will likely fly on for another 5 years!
Sukhrajah It is sad. The 757 is an amazing plane. I think Boeing made a mistake by canceling the program without a replacement.
It reached the clouds before leaving he vicinity of the airport....WOW!
Amazing and my favorite aircraft of all time. It's amazing that these same engines can lift up a wide body 767! Love this plane and nice video!
Thanks
+FlyingMiner AND 4 of those engines lift a 747!
+FlyingMiner Albeit with the larger and much higher thrust version of the RR for the 767 and 747 :-)
+loaferguy73 oh I didn't know that!
+FlyingMiner Yeah the RB211-524H series on the 767-300 and 747-400 produces 60,600 pounds of thrust max and the RB211-535 series on the 757 produces from 37,400 to 43,100 pounds max. So that amount of thrust on a much lighter plane makes the 757-200 a rocket :-)
Loving the sound of that 757! Great video mate liked!
WOW!!!!!!! Just an awesome plane!! I'm sure gonna miss them!
Love the 57's always my favorite to fly! RB211's are amazing.
Thank you
I love the sounds of those Rolls Royce RB211s.
Haha its decel point was over the runway!
Those engines are scary sounding.
One crazy ass takeoff! I love this plane!
2:03 nice to see a 747-400 and 777-300 so close to each other
WOW, that rate of climb is insane!!!!!!
@Zickcermacity
I was wondering if noise abatement was the reason the take-off angle was so steep. I've flown out of Charlotte, NC twice now and I've noticed a marked difference in takeoff speed, thrust, and angle out of the airport. I mean the takeoff really throws you back in your seat more than most. At least that is what I noticed. I've always thought that this was because the pilots had to get to a certain altitude quickly and drop power for noise abatement. Thanks.
Without a doubt in my mind, this Boeing 757 used full power for it's takeoff!!
Actually, 757s rarely use over 80% EPR on Takeoff :)
No way if BA used "full power" on a takeoff at heathrow with the runways they have there. i would say 85% N1.. 757 is one of the most powerful airliners out there with a crazy power to weight ratio. remember that this 757-200 use the exact same engine as the 767,a much larger plane, tho the 757 engine is a bit downrated it is close to follow the thrust on the PW engine the 767-300 use...
ollo1982 Yep, as you can very well see, I'm no 757 pilot! Would be quite amazing if I was!
MileHighClub211
Yeah.. it would be amazing to sit behind the yoke on a 757 :)
@KarterMicroman April 4, 2010. Flight departing 9.20 am from LHR bound for BCN
great engine sound! Nice video!
Brilliant man!
Only Dash-8 can make it steeper...
The Boeing 757 was designed and built to operate short-to-medium haul flights from small airports with short runways that required short and steep take offs
@Mxsmanic The 752 probably has the highest thrust to weight ratio of any large commercial passenger jet, most pilots i've talked to call it a rocket compared to most others saying it's one of the quickest planes off the runway and to reach initial cruise, with typical climbs at 4-5000fpm all the way to fl340-380, sad to see many airlines give them up.
@Zickcermacity err no. The reason the plane throttles back is because the plane is switching from take off power to climb power. Engines can't run at high power settings for too long as this can damage them. The reason the plane throttles back further is because ATC has assigned them to maintain their altitude for whatever reason.
