In the game's industry there is a sentiment: "Given enough time, players will optimize fun out of a game." I feel this is a broader issue. Given enough time, men will optimize fun out of everything. The Felt is fine.
Great final conclusion. I'm thinking the same of gravel vs 90s MTB with slicker tyres. Not so fast but who cares, looks good and I want to ride it. I can get a couple of meals and a holiday out of what I saved
good to see the production quality go up man! adds a lot to the videos imo. few recommendations to make it even better: do some research on typography and keep the color grading simple but consistant along the whole video. keep it up dude, as a fellow tinkerer I love seeing your channel grow
Post extensive marathon training and watching how hard he's working compared to so many other videos where he's cruising, it certainly seems like effort/fitness is the key differentiating factor here for sure. Dude's got a damn good engine these days.
Your engine is probably pretty tiptop shape from that marathon effort! But enjoyed these POS felt videos in proving you don't need the newest and greatest. Plus your perspective at the end is true too.
Cool. This has me thinking of my destroyed 2007 Chromag Samurai that rode and loved before 2019. Has me thinking about that old frame and bike that was full RGMC and enjoyed it so much. Think that is a big secret of any bike and riding fast… if your having fun and enjoy the bike you will ride faster then you think… well at least to me.
Idea! Make your fortune (or mini fortune) by marketing your POS Trail Record Smasher. At a POS price, using your exact components. I believe you'd have a winner. From one Eric to another.
It's the mullet. They're faster. I can't remember which bike designer was talking about it (it was on one of the mtb podcasts I listen to...maybe the Santa Cruz one?), but they tested mullet vs full 29" with their pro race team. They assumed the mullet would be faster on tighter, twistier stuff and the 29er would be faster on the "plow through rough and carry speed on straights" stuff. Indeed, the mullet was faster in the tight & twisty. On the straight-line stuff rough stuff...the mullet was also faster. They don't know why. But it was faster for everyone on their team who tested it.
Being over biked is giving me a complex 😅. Part of me is thinking ride what you like and the other part of me is thinking you’d be fine on a HT. It’s nice to have nice things though. I often just get my bike out to look at, that usually results in me getting off the sofa and having a ride. If it was a bike I was a bit “meh” about, I’d be less motivated to ride. It’s based though, I’d be as slow on a $1000 bike 😂.
I have a 2023 Rocky Mtn. Instinct carbon and a 2013 Stumpy Elite 29er. On some trails, I am faster on the old, shorter bike, but on most trails the Rocky blows it away. It is all about the trail and choosing the proper bike for the terrain and conditions, but run times are not much different. The quality of the ride matters too. Fast and on the edge of control is not fun. Modern geos (2020-present) ride in a much more composed manner.
I’m glad you make these kinds of videos. I’d love to do some mountain biking but the cost of entry can be prohibiting as you have stated more than once.
100% on there being no point in riding a bike you don't like and have no chance of getting the most out of "just because" it's new and expensive. I have a Giant adventure bike that was $2500 new but by preference I ride a Frankenstein bike made from parts of at least three others. An old Norco Storm hardtail with the fork and 700c wheels off a Giant Cross City, a cobbled together 1x10 drivetrain and 33mm Maxxis Raze tyres. For the rail-trail riding I mostly do, it's perfect.
If that POS had a dropper could go faster again! The status will look way better however might not go any faster due to the whole longer slacker thing... lucky we are not racers 😂
I think the only thing i dislike about the bike is the decals... Are you building out the new bike as a mullet too? The internet lore states "mullet be-ith thi fastest".. soo Anywho, i like your channel.
It's pretty funny, the bike, you dislike the most, makes you kill your privat records of the other bikes. Build up the new one, but keep the frame and the fork of the Felt as a remark in your garage. Maybe, one day, you reconstruct it with other parts hangin around in your garage....and we' ll have "The Return of the Felt Part II".🦎🤔

"Hey! Im proud of you, you piece of garbage... You did it!"👍 Please make this sticker happen.
100% agree. i've been saying this to my friends for years. bike industry is full crap and people love eating up marketing rubbish. simple as that.

The engine is the most important part
Post extensive marathon training and watching how hard he's working compared to so many other videos where he's cruising, it certainly seems like effort/fitness is the key differentiating factor here for sure. Dude's got a damn good engine these days.
Great riding. I love the Felt! I think it looks great!💙🖤💙🖤
The videography was really good, nice b-roll and drone shot. all in the legs, gg man

Kev ,!! You are a good rider
Please stop saying otherwise 😊

I agree! I wish I had the capability to get some “Everyman” frames built. Some day
You are building a Status? I'm excited to see you on one! I considered it one when buying a year ago.

Really, though, it's because bikes are fun and fun is fast.
...and mixed wheel setups are faster.
I'd attribute the results to fitness/mindset/trail conditions more than anything else
'This old piece of Shit'...could be a great channel name

I find the edge of control to be fun, right until I crash. Sometimes that's why I run a rigid bike.

Are you gonna talk about the maverick in the last video at all?
I've had one since April 22 I love it. Best vehicle I've ever owned.
The Felt for President !
ummm that segment name is “headin' on outta the farm,” did you not like how I formatted it lol
I can’t see a join button on the iPad or phone, it shows for other. Channels, I’ve tried going to the channel etc but I just can’t find it
Same I had to go on my laptop to see it

Hell ya brother
No dropper post?!?
👀that increased production quality in the last new uploads! Also, as a viewer from NL, it pains me to not hear it pronounced Top-sil
Ay's da B'y dat b'ilt da boat....

@joshfeehan7300 you tube us not from "around the bay", eh?
It helps greatly in the timing department to be in Marathon shape, does it not?
Oh I think there is definitely some fitness and extra effort that helped here for sure haha

Too much focus on performance in MTB in general. Function and feel are more important AND esthetics is also a function. Super important function!
Put on a hat sunburn sucks
