The bike shot in front of the rabbit, the jack stand holding the bike up. Subtle reminders that this is, in fact, a racecar channel. Do not be distracted by the bikes.
I really appreciate you patting the bike and saying "good bike". I've always felt that expressing affection towards gear that brings you happiness seals the memory of "the good times" you just enjoyed. Including race cars :)
There’s something special about building your new bike from a frameset. I got into mountain biking in the mid ‘90’s and just about any mountain bike magazine of the time (and there were several) featured pages of frames that were a few years old and stripped for parts. You could get a frame with shock for $299.-$399. You could also get dual crown forks for $199. (I got a Judy XL, a DHO and a Manitou X-Vert R all at the $200 price point.) I am still riding many of these bikes 26 in tires and outdated geometry be damned.
my second bike is a hodge podge of parts from an old 2013 Trek Mamba, wheels I built myself with novatec hubs, a Rockshox XC32, a M5120 Deore drivetrain I got for about 120$ CAD and some ztto 4 piston brakes on a full suspension Schwinn frame I got for 50$ CAD because the trek frame is bent in the rear and I had a lot of fun building it, it's nothing special but it's a good ol reliable when my Pine Mountain 1 2017 is out of order or a friend needs a bike to ride with me.
That color of the status is incredible, I hope one day to build a status 140 that does everything or almost everything, at least some xc/trail. very good video!
As someone that just built a status 140, despite the short travel this is an Enduro and Jump line frame. Coming from an xc bike the status drags pedals and the front end is a vague nightmare for tech climbs. Don't get me wrong I'm enjoying it a lot but it's only dipping toes in the trail category.
Short chainstays dude. I came from BMX and the main element of geo that makes an MTB playful is a short rear end. Coupled with the longish front center this thing is a weapon at speed and in the steeps as well. But the short rear center is the sliver bullet for us BMX/DJ lovers.
The status cable routing is not that bad other than the derailleur housing through the rear triangle (had to take apart the triangle to complete routing). Planet Cyclery was selling Bomber Z1 170 coil 29" fork for 300 flat at one point, and Reverb 175mm dropper for 100 with lever and hose (which hydraulic hose did not fit in the cable cover, so I left it out). I managed to fit a 29" rear wheel along with the 10mm overforking to more or less preserve the geo and raise the BB height by less than 1cm. Wheels were WTB 28mm inner width Boost takeoff from a complete bike I bought on sale for 1100 new, which I assigned a 300 dollar value to. Planet Cyclery were also selling Rekon and Assegai tires for 35 a piece at one point, so I got those too before everything ran out of stock. They are STILL SELLING SRAM G2 RS brakes for 40 bucks per set! So I got one of those, and a Deore groupset from Aliexpress for 150 bucks. Total cost after tax, less than 1500 for a bike that rips harder than anything twice the cost.
I broke the seatstay on my polygon t7 right before a biking vacation, freaked out about time, and bought a super on sale status 140 frame, thinking I'd end up selling it. Polygon was great, the siskiu is getting repaired, and now I'm stuck with both, because the status is so darn playful and fun to flick around, I can't get rid of either of them. The internal cable routing was an absolute nightmare though.
I got to thinking today about your complaint that nobody offers a sub $1,200 full suspension frame for the average person… and wondered if there’s an opportunity there for you to talk with your pals at Poseidon about the feasibility of filling that need. Just a thought. The Full Norton?
I’m kind of wondering if the reason is just genuinely that it cannot be done, or the margins are just so razor thin that it wouldn’t be worth it unless they sell like hot cakes for years
I test rode a status 160 and I absolutely hated it. But you running the shorter fork probably makes it less slack so it probably doesn’t turn like a boat. and I don’t know how tall you are but I’m 6’1 and an s3 is probably a better size than the s4 that I tried. I personally felt that the s4 I rode was too big and too slack. Plus, the suspension wasn’t set up to my liking. It was way too soft. I bet if I had an s3 and some time to play around with the setup and dial it in, I would probably enjoy it.
I'm 6'1 and love my S3. The wheel is still way out there but the reach is much more in line with the short chain. I had the fear that the S4 and S5 were going to turn like podracers.
How did you manage to buy the frame? All places I looked online are sold out. I really want to buy this one and build it for myself. I think it's gonna be perrrfect
Sick build either way, where did you manage to find a frame to purchase? I'm looking for this frame in s3 as well and can't find them in stock anywhere.
You planning on putting a bigger fork on or sticking with the 140? I’m convinced the frames between the two models are identical, aside from the shock link and shorter shock. I used to own a 160, bought the 140 shock link to change it up, but never did. Yours if you wanna pay for shipping from Colorado Also, if you ever feel like going full 29er on this thing (based on what I’ve seen on the channel, guessing not 😂), while retaining geo and having appropriate mud clearance, you can direct swap a rear chainstay from an older Speshy Enduro
dont use black electrical tape, I call it an adhesive transfer system. Instead use colored 3m phase tape/ electrical tape, doesn't leave any residue. -electrician
The Status is a bit like an enduro/mullet/pre downhill bike until you shorten the fork. I think you turned it into a trail mtb. Or counteracted the mulletness. A wonky stump jumper chomp! And that is probably why it worked.
Imo not a great beginner bike. It's a big handful at low speeds, climbs awkwardly, and will earn you a ton of pedal strikes if your home trail is chunky. It's a ton of fun for an advanced rider or maybe someone coming from bmx.
As a Status 160 owner myself, I can confirm that this is one of the worst builds I have seen 😂 But its a Status so it still rips, cant go wrong with any build
Wut. Have you not been listening? Course it will. But, the limiting factor in most cases: rider ability (within reason - apply common sense, if you have it 👀)

Agreed, I love building bikes
someone cleverly dodged the trap of perfectionism there
Absolutely love the cable tape job!
So quick. So easy
That camera effect at 0:47 feels so 90s, which goes along with the music choice quite well.
LOL was trying to make it look soooo speedy

Intro was legitness. I was sooo close to getting a Status recently so I’m excited to see what you do with yours!
It’s such a fun bike!
Love the video, but where is the bike build? Missing tinker Tuesday rn
First gen was fun but the weight distribution was funky. The new 170 status 2 is properly balanced and goes hard
this is the home bike mechanic shit i love lol keep shredding!
Now I don’t know what to do with the dropper cable, all the ports are closed over haha
Looks sick! Can't wait to see where you go with the build of this bike down the road!
8:41 to 8:51 look so darn good and crispy. Great video as always.

It's fun for everyone unless you're ripping long berms at high speed, or what every other RUclipsr pretend MTB is 😂
I’m looking forward to putting more days in with it to experience all of that!
Love all the content. keep up the good work
That valve just bopping around in the rear is epic
Sick bike… dope riding… epic content… thank you!
I'm 6" on an s3 140 and the bike is a blast. I'm tempted to go to a 160 fork and run 27.5 on both ends.
Great vid! I definitely want to get out to Wentworth now.
nice build I've always wanted to make a parts bin bike but am limited by my lack of parts bin and dont want to buy new things

Bring the new build up to ride Keppoch Mountain in Antigonish, NS.

I went from t8 to status 160. My t8 was mulleted and it felt very very similar to a 140.
Recently sold the t8 after neglect. And have zero regrets!
Just keep doing what you want to do. It comes across when someone is enjoying themself rather than creating something for views. 👍
LOVED THE VID AWESOME JOB
Thanks!!
Freaking love it all!!!!! Can’t wait to hit wentworth next weekend. Keep it up!!!!
Love it there so much.
This video was sick! Really nice dude.
Thank you!
Just an video idea for content, maybe bad idea, but mtn biking tips and tricks would be cool. Particularly going off jumps etc.
Lots of channels do tips (joy of bike, skills with Phil and tons more) if your looking for some.
Golf looks sick 🔥
Sweet GTI ! I love mine!!
It’s actually a 2.5 rabbit! Sounds frigging awesome
This bike build is perfect
Dude, how do you get that choppy footage at 0:47s ? Sick af
Great freaking job on this video. More pink rock mountain bikes!!
lol I was trying to figure out what a Pink Rock bike was, and then realized that it was probably autocorrect
More Pinch Rick mountain bikes!
*punk! LMAO
So does this bike kind of replace the pink panther bike or what was it called? Great riding in this video!

Whoa bud take it is now!!!!!!!!! I had that same frame ;);)
pretty sweet edit!
Thanks!
no dropper?
If we are going full 90’s intro videos, I expect more Dutch angles and fisheye

If it leaves permanent stripes I’ll be hyped!

I think you're right. That geo looks pretty tame compared to stock build.
Where is spindatt??
i liked this video and your cable management 🤣 , now please get a dropper post ☺
Just need to drop the money on a big ol diameter 210mm drop haha
We need more stickers!!!!!!!!
I’ve got some, I’ll get you some at the bike park! Just yell at me when you see me
Wish I could find a frame
Yeah I had to go through a bunch of hurdles to get this
Nice!
You’re saying the cheetah pants didn’t help with the PR??
Ghetto builds are always the most fun. I hope you do toss some bling bits on that steed.
Dude are you coming back soon??
Is stock Status a good bike for an absolute beginner or should go with a good hardtail? Thanks

Love the video.. Also Love the 160.. Dont my my dh bike but i like my 160 better

its pronounced pear-a-did-jim? - the question mark at the end is crucial
Wow, that IS bad 😂 that 360 tho!!!
Hell ya brother
15$ on amazoun you can get a pair of tubeless shreader valve 😜
I only need the one haha
I think you forgot the three clip
🙄 you would

That bike is a scruffy mess. I love it.
In 3 years it’ll be so sorted, but clapped and broken hahah
Or the best Felt build ever! It depends on wether your a glass half empty, or half full kind of a guy.
I like this thought process
I think it's cool that your wife lets you borrow her leopard pants to go riding.
Do both 10:48
Now come ride the worst status ever at the soon to be best bike park around!
My son's friend has the shittiest status you can't steal his title, don't even try 😂
I’m coming for the title
As a Status 160 owner myself, I can confirm that this is one of the worst builds I have seen 😂
But its a Status so it still rips, cant go wrong with any build
My status build was is clean so why do i want to ride this Mad Max bike so bad
But I thought bike Geometry didn't change how the rider can handle the bike 👀
Wut. Have you not been listening? Course it will. But, the limiting factor in most cases: rider ability (within reason - apply common sense, if you have it 👀)
I mean, I suppose that’s fair. I’ll still finish every trail in the exact same time as every bike I ride though. I just 360’d this one haha
@@ArnoldQMudskipper I am devoid of common sense, I ride mtbs lol but yeah I agree.
So this dude spends the whole climb telling us how much he sucks as a rider and proceeds to 360 the first jump. Ok brother.
heck yeah, that thing looks like a piece of crap but i'm all about it.
IT NEEDS JUNKIER haha
Mine is better and cheaper
If you think u build is silly… you should check mexican builds in the next months when the framesets start get builded 😂😂😂😂
Will be following the hashtag to see these haha
