    I used this stuff. I used the kind that attaches to hose. Although I did not have a moss issue, I had dark algae streaks on my roof and over time it did def improve the appearance of my roof so I did another round of it this year. All and all for the investment I was pretty happy with my results. Like I said I've done it twice. Once last year and just now again this year. For normal black algae roof stains it did fairly well. It's not a miracle worker but does well on light to moderate issues. It does take some time and patience and maybe a follow up. . If you have severe issues may need a professional or attack it with the zinc strips for alagae discoloration. I have a light roof and its not old enough to really warrant replacement yet, but asethically the dark streaks were not inviting and this product made me much happier with it until the time I want or need to replace my roof. My roof still has some years left in it so I'd like to make it last and this product def helped. That's my opinion. I would use it as an annual or every other year regular roof maintenance item. All else, it's good to keep alagae growth down as it actually breaks shingles down over time so keeping it removed seems to be a good idea to me.

    This product works great.! I have used it on roofing, sidewalks, sliding and wood decks. Mix it at 21oz per gallon. Sometimes you need to spray it a second time after a month. Although the instructions do not mention moss removal, it definitely does kill moss. As bad as your roofing is it will eventually loose it's hold on the shingles.

    The product has killed the moss and without touching anything it sure looks better than before you sprayed. I don’t know if you are able to climb a ladder and get up on the roof. I would get up there and pull off that dead moss. I have pulled off live moss and it really sticks to the shingles so even though it looks dead, it still has roots clinging just under the edges of the shingles. Thanks for the video. 😁

      I'm so sorry but you're missing the point. The ads for this product, both on the company website and on the product label show before and after pictures. The before picture shows a roof covered with ugly green moss, just like mine. The after picture shows a perfectly clean roof, completely free of moss. What the after pictures do not indicate is after how long. So what's reasonable? If I plant grass seed on a bare spot, it's covered with new grass just two weeks later. If I spread lawn fertilizer in April, my sparse, yellow brown color, winter grass thickens and turns forest green just two weeks later. So is two weeks reasonable? That's what I was thinking, but no. All Spray and Forget did for me was kill the moss. A year and a half later, the ugly black stuff was still there. How much of the product do you think they would sell if they showed that in their ads? Like many others in my neighborhood (don't know what they product(s) they had tried) I finally had to power wash my roof to get rid of the ugly black stuff. So, that's the point. In my opinion, as documented in this video, the product is falsely advertised. Why people feel can't see that, why people are not offended by that, why they defend the manufacturer instead, is beyond me...

    Outside of your test, it looks like you're due for a new roof. Where did you read that Spray and Forget REMOVES the actual moss? Even on the label it reads that it "removes stains caused by algae, mold and mildew." The stains were removed, and it killed the moss. You would have to physically remove the clumps of moss that remain. The only reduction in moss that you would expect to see after it is killed if you didn't do it yourself would require heavy, heavy rains or pressurized water to actually detach the moss clumps from the shingles.

    • @LawrencePina
      @LawrencePina  3 года назад +1

      I read it at spray&forget.com. Their official "before and after" photo (and a picture is worth a thousand words) is shown just 0:19 seconds into the video. And, I also read it right on the Spray & Forget Revolutionary Roof Cleaner Concentrate bottle. That same "before and after" photo appears on the label. "Before," we see a roof covered in moss. "After," we see a clean roof. Nowhere on the website or the product label does it say you have to power wash the roof to achieve those results, because if that were true, why would anyone need Spray & Forget? And that's exactly the point. It doesn't work as advertised. As for hoping that "heavy, heavy rains," might detach the moss, don't hold your breath. It's been one year and three months since that roof was sprayed. We've had heavy rain. We've had snow and ice. We've had blizzards and tropical storms. Most of the moss is still there, stuck on as fast as it ever was.

    The key here is the moss was killed by Spray and Forget. That is extremely important as the damage to a roof is caused by living growing moss. Dead moss will eventually decompose but it takes a very, very long time for moss to decompose. Even in a compose bin dead moss fragments do not break down quickly. According to a Google search it takes 3 or more years for dead moss to decompose. I would reapply Spray and Forget each year as a preventative measure to insure no new moss starts to grow. The product cost me approx $40 for the spray container and I used 2 bottles to spray my entire roof. That is astoundingly cheap for the results it produces. Spray and Forget works slowly and naturally, which is very, very good. No bleach, no harsh chemicals, rather organic action. Post another video in 2022 and lets see how your roof looks then. I bet most of the dead moss will have decomposed and gone.

    • @LawrencePina
      @LawrencePina  3 года назад +2

      I respectfully disagree. The key here is that the manufacturer doesn't say any of what you say on the package or on their website. They just show before and after pictures, leaving after how long, up to the customer's imagination. I wonder how many people would actually buy the product if they added the words "three years" to the after photo? What else takes three years to work? Does it take three years for paint to dry? Does it take three years for WD40 to eliminate a squeak? Does it take three years for laundry detergent to remove a stain? No. You apply the solution and you get immediate results. Three years is not reasonable. If it's going take that long, the manufacturer ought to indicate it, in their ads and on the packaging. Failing to do so, in my opinion, is false advertising. I'd also like to point out that I bought "Spray & Forget" (not something else) because I'd heard it recommended many times on the "Money Pit" radio show. I never once recall the hosts saying it was going to take three years to see results. Had they been honest about it, I'd have just used a solution of 50% bleach and 50% water. It's a lot cheaper and works just as well.

      I agree. The product kills the moss, but it doesn't remove it as advertised. You still have to power wash the roof to remove it and that's the problem. If it's still there, dead, brown, and ugly as ever more than a year later, and you still have to power wash the roof to get rid of it, wouldn't it make more sense to just power wash the roof in the first place?

      Sorry to disagree, but even after 15 months brooms and brushes could not physically remove the dead moss. All that did was loosen the shingle sand. Another guy said I had to wait 3 years for the dead moss to decompose. Not willing to wait that long, I finally got rid of it using a power washer in August of 2020. I've since learned that the product works much better than bleach and soapy water mix for removing green algae stains, especially from cedar shingles, because it does NOT change the color of the siding. A few weeks are application, the stains are gone and the shingles still look weathered. But, no matter how often or much of it you spray, the product I was sold can NOT remove moss from a roof. The dead material has to either decompose naturally, which can take years, or you have to power wash it off. Since I didn't want to wait years for the dead moss to be gone, that's what I did, the following summer.

      That's not the point. Both the label on the Spray & Forget product I bought from Home Depot and the advertising on the manufacturer's website, show the moss gone (presumably in a reasonable time), not brown and dead, still there, still ugly as ever a year and a half later. If you have to power wash the roof to get rid of the dead moss, why bother with Spray & Forget? Waste of time and money in my experience. I wonder how many bottles of Spray & Forget they'd sell if they showed ugly, dead brown moss in their before and after pictures? Not many I should think. So instead, they show a perfectly clean roof after treatment, and that's NOT what I got, until I power washed the roof almost 18 months later.

      Obviously, but that's NOT what the before and after pictures on the product packaging (and also on the manufacturer's website) indicated. Before shows a moss covered roof. After shows a perfectly clean, new looking roof. Nowhere does it suggest that you have to power wash the roof to remove the dead moss, to get that look. And if you have to power wash the roof to remove to clean it, what do you need Spray & Forget for? Why not just power wash it in the first place? That's why I feel the product is falsely advertised. It does NOT remove the moss as shown in the before and after pictures. It just turns it into an ugly dead mess. I wonder how much product they would sell if they showed that result in the product advertising? I've had it with falsely advertised products like Spray & Forget. I can't imagine why people defend them.
