  • Spencer Claeys specializes in deep cleaning and removing layers of moss from roofs. He starts the cleaning by leaf-blowing any loose debris and brushing the moss. He applies a chemical spray and treatment powder across the roof to prevent moss from regrowing.

    To avoid having to do this again, I'd recommend installing copper roof tape. It prevents future moss problems and damage to the roof surface in a safe, chemical-free way. I bought my copper tape from Homemerce and it is very effective, no more moss.

    Very cool. I had to do my roof when I lived in the PNW. If I had thought I could make a business out of it I would have instantly done so. Very cool.

      I totally agree, and did not want to remove mine because of the look but they grow something similar to Ritz they go under the shingles and they hold a lot of moisture against the roof, eventually work its way into the sheathing and will rot the home. If you want to have a mass roof that’s certainly possible, but you have to plan for that when you design your roof, a standard shingled roof construction will become destroyed

    It'd be nice if there were roofs that worked well together with the moss, I'm noticing that the moss is getting into the crevices too; this could maybe be used to play around with design and what not.

    everybody has their own methods, and this video is great, the only thing that I would discourage is brushing roof surfaces as you will get significant granular loss and losing your top layer of roof.

    huuuuuh why are there sponges in the gutter?

    • @kutanra
      @kutanra Год назад +2

      Because if the gutter is full of porous sponge, water can still flow and the gutters can work, leaf debris and soil prevent that and cause your gutters to overflow and leak. Usually means you only need to maintain your gutters 2-3 times a year; these gutter guards just got left too long.

    Isn't bleach super toxic to humans and animals if they ingest it and if you inhale it? You can see a big cloud of the powder blows off the roof it sounds super unsafe. Plus i can't see you are using any kind of respirators mask to protect yourself from the powder and the other chemicals you use. And you don't mention if they are dangerous or safe chemicals. Isn't it standard now days to say that it's "Eco-Friendly" OR if you need to take special precautions when handling the chemicals??
    PS: Sorry if i sound like a dick. I'm just very afraid of animals will be harmed due to mishandling of chemicals and etc (I'm not saying that you do, I mean in general)
    I've watched the video 10+ times now so I didn't miss if you were wearing a respirators mask when you spread the chemicals. Why on earth are you not using any mask???? To show this video on this channel I think is very bad. It signals mismanagement when handling chemicals.

      sodium hypochlorite is bleach/chlorine, and the powdered version is calcium hypochlorite. you swim in it, and it is used to treat your city's drinking water. you can spill industrial-strength SH on your skin and it won't harm you. it might be "smart" to use a respirator but unnecessary. SH neutralizes itself in less than 12 hours and when diluted by rinsing any overspray. the worst thing that can happen is that you kill the leaves on a couple plants that you didn't rinse off.

    Moss is a natural insulator and doesn't damage the shingles... Of course you should remove it from the gutters but there's no real reason why you should get rid of it anywhere else... It's a fake problem caused by companies to make money

    • @johnedwards4715
      @johnedwards4715 Год назад +13

      are you smoking moss weed? It holds in moisture and damages the roof especially cedar shake.

    • @yodaddy4944
      @yodaddy4944 Год назад +3

      tell that to the home inspector when you go to sell your house. or the roofing manufacturer when you try to warranty the roof due to water intrusion because the trapped moisture and separated shingles caused them to crack and leak.

  • @yodaddy4944
    @yodaddy4944 Год назад +1

    dont brush or scrape the roof, treat it with sodium hypochlorite, and let it die and fall off on its own.
