The fact you guys are stating the boys couldn't do this, the boys couldn't do that, yet ignore, this ENGLAND side had 90% of its 2023 RWC team on that park playing it's 7th International game against an ALL BLACK team that is playing its FIRST international game since the 2023 RWC, missing WHITELOCK, SMITH, RETALICK, COLES, FRIZELL, MO'UNGA, CANE, TAUKEI'AHO, LAULALA, FAIGA'ANUKU, NAWARA and an injured WIL JORDAN, ROIGARD, HAVILI, a new Coach, new system, yet, won a close game against an already battle tested, battle hardened ENGLAND team who beat IRELAND and came close to beating FRANCE most recently. What the hell are you guys complaining about?
It's no surprise England were so good, Northern hemisphere rugby has improved so much that we are now experiencing real test match footy, it's intense and nerve racking, exactly how you want it 😊.
They have just played 6 nations. We havnt played anyone. No team at this level, can expect a master class performance. It's Dmacs first at 10. Number 10 is important. Still think BB should be there. Dmac, couldn't do anything in the Final against the Blues. BB is master-class at 10, at test level. Richie isn't available, nor Jordan, who makes a difference
@@gregwaghorn8496Beaudan has past it and it's the reason why Blues won the Super Rugby this year, had Beaudan been there they would have lost. If Beaudan pushes Plummer from the 10 next year Blues won't win again.
i don't know why they persist with Taylor, hes too small and doesn't do hard carries, Asafo takes the ball up like Taukei'aho, mate we need hard ball runners
The more min he plays the more fatigue and the worse he will be at the scrum. But if like England you like your props to be able to kick drop goals, side step and Goose step instead of winning the scrum battle then yes sure. OX can't side step, kick can't even pass the ball properly , but he wins scrums and thus wins games.
not enough is being said about DMac's performance under the high ball. I don't remember the last time a team targeted the AB's so deliberately with pressure high balls and it was completely nullified by DMac. He nailed every single one. Certainly made Perofeta's night a lot easier.
@@Badmansbandhardly had any bad kicks, he set up a try with a good cross kick. He was able to keep the ball down in the English half 65% of the time and he found touch when he needed too. Other than missing some tough conversions in his first test match this year he played well, ran well, passed well and created alot of opportunities especially in the first half. We missed out on finishing alot of those opportunities, a few changes in selections may be necessary to tidy up those areas.
@@johndiamond6931 the third quarter was poor. Kicked a lot of ball away to find ourselves back in our half again and then tried running and passing under pressure behind our 10m.
It was a typical first up performance. Rusty with mistakes, a lack of cohesion. The ABs will be better for this. Looking for a better performance this week.
They played like a middling Super Rugby team: disorganized on defence, naive tactics in possession, often weak fundamentals but sporadic moments of brilliance. The fact England still couldn't win is more of a testament to how bloody average they still are.
Not one mention of Jordie Barrett and yet for mine he was one of the stand outs of the AB team, he had a huge game and rated a mention. Pleased they addressed laying in our half too mush and ways to exit effectively and regain possession with smarter kicking. Go the ABs, you are bloody beautiful warriors
I think the AB's did extremely well with half the team been new players, new coach and first game since RWC2023. England team just game of from a six nation cup and the same players that has played in the RWC 2023. From a Springbok fan, I give AB team double thumbs up not just for a win but kept their cool and did not crash under pressure. Well done to you boys!!
Cam and Noah Hotham are both the future. Christy is super combative either side of the ball and clinical for a different style but not quite as impactful except on defence in tight test matches.
Have you been to Eden Park? Well it's situated in a picturesque neighborhood. Leafy streets alighned with historic Victorian villas. Bars and resturants are all walking distance. England are in good hands.
It's very clear that a super fast rush defence system is the best way to defend, as it puts so much pressure on the opposition attack. SA perfected it and England are now becoming very good at it. Question is why do the ABs refuse to implement this system? McLeod as a defence coach preferred a passive system, and I was hoping that Hansen would change this, but the defence under him looked equally as passive. Dumb and mind boggling. We are making it so easy for the opposition to make easy metres the way we currently defend.
England at times just need to stand on the gainline such was our predictability really hope Ryan drills the pack to initiate the maul earn much needed yard and runoff that because the pick and go has limits
I lament the way rugby has lost it classic backine and forward play.I think the defensive line needs to be set at 5 meters except players immediately committed to the ruck up to an equal number of defenders v attackers. This should allow time for forwards to set together in blanket drives and fir the backlines time to align deeper and run on to the ball
Rush defence sucks, anyone watching the game can see why. Only issue was the ABs not capitalising on its weaknesses in the second half, despite doing so in the first.
20 something years ago in Cape Town, Victor Matfield (Boks rush defense) ran a hole through DC’s chest. AB’s lost that game because they couldn’t deal with the rush defense. 20 something years later, and the AB’s still battling with that rush defense. It’s was clear to see on Saturday. The boks will bring that same rush defense again later this year. While it’s awesome to watch expansive and fast rugby, you have to be able to adapt and handle that rush defense better. Good luck for this coming Saturday boys 🖤🖤
Yes the subs saved us but 2 of Christies kicks weren't perfect. England's 2nd try in the match just after half time started from a bad Christie box kick that led to the 5 points, the missed penalty goal also at the start of the second half was the result of Christies poor management at the back of the scrum and rucks, we only got better in the 60th minute when the subs rolled on.
Go the AB took down England and stop their southern march to Victory. Mate first hitup for the boys priceless England sent a great team and about time. Exciting times ahead for NZ AB
All Blacks will always be All Blacks - a top notch side. Fans are used to them being top ranked team for over 90% of the last 20 - 30 years. A few of the other teams have now caught up. It is also a mental / self-belief thing. All Blacks no longer have that absolute confidence, whilst other teams no longer have that fear.
No disrespect I don't agree with you that you deserve a win. You take a win it isn't handed to you and saying your players deserved the win is a disservice to them. They won that match done and dusted
It’s the first time I agree with JK (gasp), the AB’s were always the innovators and that batton is comfortably sitting with the Springboks at the moment! There is however confidence that Razor is the right man for the job! All the best to the AB’s from SA!
He kind off reminds me of Willie Le Roux at the back on 15 spotting the space controlling the game and striking when the time is right. If your 15 can do that you control the game.
I've always wondered why a very skilled team doesn't move it's backline deeper, the more traditional line angle, when there is a rush defensive line, and then have 10, or better yet 12, pop kick or kick through with the full back center and winger chasing. Turn the defense around and slow up their rush. Make them react to what you are doing instead of beating your backs against the wall. lots of two man tackles on 1st receivers...Then move up as it opens up.
I agree. Even if just to make the rush D have to move further. The risk is we go backwards faster if the defence is successful however to balance that out they get more tired and potentially have to run faster to make up the ground in which case our kicking game, grubbers etc become more effective as turning around is harder to do for them if they are travelling quicker. Many advantages to being a little deeper. Only play it doesnt help with is the cross field winger kick
Yep far too much shuffle passing with the receiver standing still or walking,or the receiver having to check their run because the ball is delivered to the man instead of into the space for the receiver to run on to.
Agree. Cam roigard has huge potential, just a shame he is injured. I think Ratima and Hotham have a lot of potential also, not so much Christie as he is decidedly average.
Perofeta played very well, i thought, winners are grinners. Our tactics were naive late in the first half, 20 phases went back 20 metres. Kicking game in the 2nd half. Start Cortez Ratima
perofeta was awesome. We still need a test match kicker, can he do that too? weve not had one since carter. We need a kick array for rush D not just box kicks after failed run attempts. You need grubbers with chasers ready and chips over the top with chasers ready. Do it enough and they will adjust their defence and then you can run it.
this is nothing new though, we've been struggling to find solutions against this tactic for quite a few years now...teams are happy to force or invite us to kick they understand the AB's without ball in hand are a lesser threat
@@craigrodger3628 i dont know why box kicking is the answer. We always used to consider ourselves a triple threat. Kicking was part of that. Seems people want to reinvent the wheel. But regardless, happy with the win. Soldier on.
@@thefobbie0034 can he kick goals? If so i dont see why not. But he did play crisp at FB. I guess maybe when will jordan returns they may look for jordan at FB and entertain perofeta at 10 if he performs under pressure like he has in the remaining games. Caleb back soon hopefully. Cam roigard. I feel like we have a dangerous team brewing
@@Edgycoo Yes he can kick goals and NO he is NOT a fullback even though he can play fullback! Perofeta is a 1st-five and has always been a 1st-five! I believe the call for Perofeta to play fullback came from Robertson to Cotter to play him at fullback! Perofeta should be the starting 10 Barrett at fullback till Jordan has recovered!!! I do agree with you that we do have a great team brewing but need to shift Savea to 7 and look at Sititi and Sotutu OR Cullen Grace for 8! I would have started Akira Ioane ahead of Finau on Saturday BUT again another stuff up losing a top player to overseas! However we need to change the game plan because we are persisting with the POD game and this is what got Foster into trouble!
I feel bad for the all blacks!, the amount of people upset with their performance is crazy. They showed so much heart and there was room for improvement but England (my team) were after it and came nocking at the door and they weathered the storm, I think people underestimate England we aren’t the team we have been in the last 4 years. Well done AB’s! Your team will be fine, we will be after it in the next game you best be ready however I see you winning by a slightly bigger margin next game but should be a cracking test!
The English press was talking up their team big time. If not for those penalty misses, it would have been a win for them. Their defence was incredible and made the ABs kick high balls to the wing. Never seen that. Hope we can see another great game on Saturday.
Nonsense, I read the articles myself in the UK. Talking about 2003,.etc. And as it turns out, with some justification. You don't think the English tabloid et al float these fluff pieces at every chance?
I believe 9 jersey is open and the speed of the pick up to pass is the key, so the player that can deliver the ball ie pick up to reciever should influence who is picked. Especially when the defence to rushing..that may 2cents.
I think the English were offside a lot, and I'm not quite sure that I'm more rapid pass would've broken that defense. Smith is in the past and we need to move on. This happens with all teams and I really don't think Peranara was bad.
@@Broughiefirst half with Perenara was good, 2nd half with Christie wasn't. I think an average pass can be ok if players stand deeper or if the defense is manipulated with several running options and running lines. The pod system can't be the only option, we need variations in attack and when setting up phases in attack.
@@johndiamond6931 I think Perenara started OK, but to my eyes he seemed to get slower as the 1st half progressed (prior to the injury). His box kicks didn't seem that good (head down/lack of depth control), he seemed to complain (offside ref) a lot before reaching in to get the ball from the ruck. I felt it gave the English more time to set their defense (which was very good) when he did pass. A 4.5/10 performance. Christie had his own issues (I'd rate similarly).
@@jeromieweatherburn8835 fair assessment except i would rate Perenara a 6/10. Compared to Christie there was a huge difference in the 2nd half. In the first half ABs were able to create so many opportunities but couldn't finish them all. In the 2nd half they created none. The main reason I believe was the difference between each platform each halfback was able to give their teammates, Perenara was ahead there. I absolutely agree TtJ started to get slower later in the first half which is the same time he started to get on the ref and try to play mind games with the ref. And it's a huge negative to his overall game because up until then he was playing mostly very well. Christie also had a tendency to cry out to the ref too which I think both halfbacks are guilty off and may have squandered opportunities because of it. But there was a massive difference between both halves, in the first hslf ABs were able to play in Englands half many times and were able to score 2 tries, in the 2nd half I don't remember ABs even getting into Englands 22 and they didn't score any tries. So basically that's how I saw it.
All 6N, European Championship and English Premiership games have a Shot Clock up on a big screen… at community Rugby level the Referee usually gives a verbal 15 or 20 second countdown.
I heard the ref give dmac something not sure wat it was but at the end of the day dmac takes too long in general just kick the fuking thing man, too much emphasis on a 2 point conversions or 3 point penalties take too long
I don't think there should be shot clock. Why? because it provides another avenue to waste time. The referee should simply give one time warning ( 30sec,15secs but only one) on the cue from his official time keeper and leave the players to manage it. If the player has to manage the time left then that player is less likely to fluff around leaving it to the last second.
Aumua,DmAc,ardie, cappy and his bros well done.mark talea industrial as ever, patrick looking like the real deal. No complaints building blocks look solid
Shout out to Portia Woodman Thanks for blessing us with your amazing skills talent over all these years it’s been awesome watching you and the girls conquering the rugby world and bringing it home for our country All the best for the future 👍👍
The ref did give Dmac a verbal countdown and ample opportunity to still take the shot after time had run out. We could hear it clearly on the telly so that was definitely Mckenzie's fault.
Initially, I wanted a Shot Clock on the ‘big screen’ to enable it to be visible to the kicker but can you imagine if the opposition supporters could also see it & they started on the Countdown themselves? In certain games/countries, there would be none of that ‘Keep quiet. Respect the Kicker’ lark. It would be full volume 10, 9, 8, 7….& maybe sometimes even mis-leading so maybe a visible Shot Clock is not a good thing. For me, once the Ref has made the mark, blown their whistle & pointed to the posts, that should be the end of the Refs involvement until signaling whether time has run out or the Kick/Conversion was successful etc. It should not be up to the Ref to give a ’10 second’ warning - hear me out. You would hope that by the time the decision is made to kick for the posts, that both the Ball & Tee are readily available to the Kicker. If the delivery of either is delayed then that is valuable seconds lost. To avoid those ‘lost seconds’ the team should have a Water Boy & a Tee on both sidelines with the 'Water Boy' being positioned on the sideline as close to the Kicker as possible to speed up the handover of the Tee. The normal routine is for the Kicker to get the Tee off the ‘Water Boy’ while firstly having a quick slurp. To take a bit of the pressure off the Kicker, I would suggest that the Water Boy'' be the Kickers eyes/ears with regards to the Shot Clock, personally giving the Kicker the reminders that they prefer to hear be it at 10 secs, 12 secs, 15 secs or whatever. If there is no visible Shot Clock on the ‘big screen’, I would also have gotten the Water Boy' to have gotten the remaining time off the Ref e.g 47 secs, subtracted ‘n’ seconds e.g. from the time that the Ref said, set their own lil Stop Watch to 45 secs & then told the Kicker there was 45 secs to go. The ‘Water Boy' then gives the Kicker the respective timings that they require/prefer so that the kick is struck within the safety margin e.g. 2 seconds, that the team/kicker prefer or the tactics influence. Oh, and there should always be another of the team close by in case the Ball needs to be held/secured on the Tee or change the laws to allow the ‘Water Boy’ to do it.
@@lovemysport7902 The raucous crowd throwing the kicker off - similar tactics already happen in basketball. I think having a visible clock creates more transparency if done right, and also reduces the mental load on the kicker and official. I was the timekeeper for one of the tests last weekend, and the WR match commissioners were adamant it be visible. It took some finagling on the tech side, but a workable if not perfect solution was found.
@@lovemysport7902 crowd getting involved - happens in basketball all the time. I think the visual clock adds transparency, which is always better. At the USA/ROM match, the WR commissioners were adamant that it be visible in spite of the protestations from the stadium and broadcast tech crews. A solution was found, and while it took a minute for it to appear, there was a visible clock on the stadium big screen and on the broadcast. The fact that a tier 2 test could have one but not ENG/NZ is mine-boggling
There were a few penalty kicks that went past the minute over the weekend games and Daimen was the only one pulled up. We need a clock for consistency all round
Well it depends on when the refs actually take the time from and with different refs it will vary, the law book states the time should be taken straight after the whistle is blown for the penalty,so straight after the ref blows his whistle for the penalty he has 60 seconds which is enough time I believe but your right take it out of the hands of the ref and get a shot clock going, the only thing with that is the crowd may start to yell the countdown while he's about to kick it
Really enjoyable game and congrats to the ABs on the win. I hope "TJ" is ok. Frustrating for England as that definitely felt like "the" opportunity for a win. I expect this week to be much tougher as whilst I am a fan of both Borthwick and this team I just feel the ABs under "Razor" will just adapt and improve more quickly. In terms of England positives we got very close with a scrum that was struggling so little genuine front foot ball. It was two trys each and we showed both invention and intent in attack. Overall I think most of the team compared well with their AB opposites. Arguably only the second row significantly outshone theirs. Both teams were missing players and given both kickers had poor games kicking I think one can cancel those factors out. Myriad reasons for the loss but the main issues for us to address are the scrum and the lack of impact, certainly v ABs, of the bench. I also think we need to get both wings involved more. Both are skillful but physical and quick players comfortable off their wings. I didn't pay the same attention to the ABs but it was impressive how quickly they were up to speed. Are their likely to be changes ahead of the second test, injury aside? Good luck for this next one. I'm hoping that England can get a historic win and we can have a "decider" at Twickenham in the summer.
First test. New coach, new team. Give this coaching team and it’s players a few games under their belts.. then watch this AB team evolve and start to really change gears.
The gameplan seemed little different from before. I guess it has worked (the quarter and semi last year) when our forwards are very dynamic and challenging the gain line in the centre around the rucks. But we didn’t dominate there regardless of how good the set piece was (the scrum NOT the line out). Reece, Telea and BB looked dangerous with ball in hand. Perofeta went quiet and didn’t give second receiver options in the last 20mins he was on the field. Contestable kicks were too long and allowed the escorts to screen too easily. Some good analysis rather than the usual opinionated positions about the ABs vs Eng. A lot of talk about establishing a culture and identity… really? When did the ABs ever have a problem with knowing what is expected of them? All that “connecting” and “themes”? I’d rather see some front foot dominance, or the theme could quickly become “losing”. The speed and openness of the attack in the SA vs Ireland game was a contrast to Dunedin. A scary contrast.
When an All Blacks' side wins (70% overall success in 121 years - is this good enough?), many 'commentators' will inevitably look to become Devil's Advocate (look for objections & weaknesses as to why NZ isn't quite as good as some think it is). Well, as one fellow Kiwi once put it "it's no good bloody thinking!" Dead right. It's much better to know, & what we know is NZ is one up against the inventors of the game (Rugby School 1823). Nit picking has become a stock in trade for many. I am not buying, & Eden Park will be the ultimate testing ground. NZ may need to win by 100 points to satisfy some critics, but a win is a win in anyone's book. A bigger win next game, to supply 'shut it' material, is now a must. Good comments from the panel, by the way, & a useful performance from both sides, all the critical rot notwithstanding.
Are you going to talk about the attempt to cheat, when the shot clock was stopped when Damien McKenzie was clearly not going to make his kick in time stopped on 19 seconds, luckily the ref saw that, clearly becoming like the old Australian teams that want to win at all cost, World Rugby have to investigate this
I'll talk about it. I think you're getting overly excited ... investigation ? give me strength. There was no "shot clock" !! The clock on the screen is the broadcaster's clock. There are forever discrepancies .... for example the referee calls time off and the clock ticks away and the referee calls time on and the clock is not restarted. It's not the official time!! The match will have a designated official time keeper/s - whether that be the referees assistants or other delegated officials. Have you seen the number of officials at a high level rugby match before. What do you think they all do. The referee would have been taking his cue from the official timekeeper.
Newzeland have the best team in world rugyb! Lets have that straight! England fan here. What a team. We played really well and got beat by some unbeatable playwers from NZ
McKenzie burning all the time with the kick and the subsequent scrum using up more time (if not for the penalty off it) could be a legit strategy in certain weird situations! The field position is often more important than the 3 points. Still would be better to kick for the corner though.
Kirwan once again not even watching or listening to the game. Ref tells McKenzie 20 seconds, tells him 10 seconds, then blows it. McKenzie said in his interview that ref had even warned him the previous kick as well. The ABs structure to deal with the rush defence was terrible for McKenzie, can't blame him for being stuck scrambling under pressure by bad structures throwing slow deep unscreened balls to him. Can blame him for not kicking the ball in time.
South Africa's current edge might lie in the wider range of rugby experience within their squad. Many Springboks compete in overseas leagues, facing diverse playing styles and learning from top coaches from various nations. Coach Rassie Erasmus has also bolstered the team with international coaching expertise. In contrast, New Zealand's strength has traditionally come from a well-honed national style, but this lack of exposure to different approaches could be a disadvantage.
I believe he changed our fortunes around aswell didn't seem like perofeta or dmac were putting the poms under enuf pressure with their territorial kicking and so the change was made at the perfect time, perofeta and dmac seem to be getting caught up in the attack attack mindset instead of thinking tactically and kicking for the corners
We haven’t picked a team to suit game changers for 6 years. We’ve been seduced by the idea that a Crusaders approach to a controlled, consistent team approach will win above Super level. We tried this with Blackadder (T) and Thorne. The ABs at their best have transcended being a good team by having players like Cullen, Jones, Nonu, Lomu, Coles, McCaw, Carter lift them above the predictable.
Robertson had the England 6N campaigns + the run out against Japan to study England’s setup and tactics. Borthwick basically went into this game blind and had no idea of the team he was going to face. Add on the number of international caps this AB team have and a single 1-point win surely raises more questions than answers.
@@BS2Dos then surely you would agree that the same single 1 point win S.A. got in the WC final also raises more questions than answers...right? I'm going with your logic here
@@tasiletoa1037 But SA weren’t playing the SF with a new coach in place, were they. Point I’m making is Robertson had the benefit of referencing a few England games, which Borthwick didn’t.
Well, I'm not complaining about the penalty. But I didn't hear it on the TV and maybe that's the feed they were watching. I think it's good that they are expected to kick the ball sooner.
DMac, had actually started his movement to kick the ball when the ref called it off. Could DMac hear him, I am not sure. But DMac is consistently over the sixty seconds in many of his kicks. Time for a shot clock so we can all see it. But, DMac has pushing this envelope too long, it was inevitable that tis would happen.
I believe that the 60 second Shot Clock starts from when the team tells the Ref their intention & (should be) stopped when the Ball is struck. If the shot clock were to stop at the start of the Run-Up then one could in theory place the ball, sprint back 50 yards & start your very slow run-up taking a heap more time off the clock. Frustratingly a team could wind down the clock another 5-15 secs by delaying their decision but that is another issue. Once the Ref has made the mark, blown their whistle & pointed to the posts, that should be the end of their involvement until signaling whether time has run out or the Kick/Conversion was successful etc. It should not be up to the Ref to give a ’10 second’ warning - hear me out. You would hope that by the time the decision is made to kick for the posts, that both the Ball & Tee are readily available to the Kicker. If the delivery of either is delayed then that is valuable seconds lost. To avoid those ‘lost seconds’ the team should have a 'Water Boy' & a Tee on both sidelines with the 'Water Boy' being positioned on the sideline as close to the Kicker as possible to speed up the handover of the Tee. The normal routine is for the Kicker to get the Tee off the ‘Water Boy’ while firstly having a quick slurp. To take a bit of the pressure off the Kicker, I would suggest that the 'Water Boy' be the Kickers eyes/ears with regards to the Shot Clock, personally giving the Kicker the reminders that they prefer to hear be it a 10 secs, a 12 secs, 15 secs or whatever. If there is no visible Shot Clock on the ‘big screen’, I would also have gotten the 'Water Boy' to have gotten the remaining time off the Ref, set their own lil Stop Watch to whatever e.g. 47 seconds, subtracted ‘2’ seconds from that time & then told the Kicker there was 45 secs to go. The 'Water Boy' then gives the Kicker the respective timings that they require/prefer & the ball would be struck with '2' secs to spare (at least). Having said that, I wouldn’t have taken the kick at goal on the ‘said’ occasion. It was highly unlikely given what had happened earlier in the game that the English were going to score a ‘worldy of a try’ from 1 end to the other, so just play territory/possession. If successful, the 3 points would have only increased the lead to 4, left time on the clock for a restart, given the English field position by allowing them a restart to compete for possession and the English could have pinched a match winning try. In stead of DMac going for the 3, I would have gone for the corner to play territory, possession & run the clock down. Kick for the corner, walk to the Line-Out (which is one of my bug bears when done against us!), catch & drive, 1 off runners, pick & go, keep possession & maybe even pick up another penalty. If an ensuing penalty is within the time which wouldn’t allow a restart then take the 3 points, call a scrum etc - game over. Having said that, if a team is trailing and time is of the essence then they can get the kick done far more quickly than the 60 secs they use when trying to run the clock down. DMac’s brother, Marty, would take a kick in about 5-10 secs. He was very good & accurate to boot as well. The 60 secs shot clock across the board also needs a bit of tweaking/re-thinking as there is a big difference from kicking a conversion from under/in-front the posts to having the Ball & Tee at the mark to indicate a kick for the 3 points to walking back to the 22 having scored a try in the corner having regained possession of a scoring try when the opposition or one of your (dumb) team mates has kicked/thrown the ball into the crowd.
Just wish Sevu Reece would not be so flat when receiving the ball. He was in front of Ardie Savea when Ardie received the ball from Perofeta and again too flat from another pass from Perofeta.
Truth is the marginally better side won and both sides have more to offer. England have started to play a better brand of rugby but are still working on it and left points on the pitch and the ABs will be better next week but have class no doubt. For me a close, tense, not perfect but bloody good test match. Roll on Eden park. Could england win... Maybe just maybe...🤞🏻a side note NZ probably won by playing a little bit like boring England of 2023 what a strange beautiful game!!
In high school as soon as the halfback touches the ball it’s game on now they can build a bridge to tarabithia it would speed up the game no mucking around make them work to keep the ball
I'm confused about the shot clock, I noticed in the SA v Ireland game that the shot clock started from 90 seconds - guessing it's 90 secs for tries and 60secs for penalties? Seems an easy fix at the stadiums and would be good to see the shot clock properly implemented with scrums, sooo much time wasting there by both sides and are the slowest part of the game. The ref clearly told Dmac "20 seconds, 10 seconds" but he obviously wasn't loud enough. Not sure what this panel are confused about.
Well done kiwis! Although I feel that these guys have slightly missed the plot critiquing the ABs I understand the high standard in which the ABs are being held. Still though, this veteran England side was tough against a relatively Fresh AB squad under new management. I'm afraid of what you guys are gonna bring, all the best! 🥳🇿🇦
I know right. The ABs are a phenomenal team and have some of the best athletes in world rugby. Just feels like they're missing a bit of grunt or mongrel. The contemporary batch just don't feel like the previous likes of Kaino, Collins, Nonu, Read, The Bus and more recently Rettalick and Whitelock

The Boks were also a little rusty, and your boys are a new crew. They will grow into it. Their line pressure was better than the AB’s. You won, learn and improve. I am looking forward to another good test early on Saturday.
I would like to see Caleb Clark developed as a centre he's got the physicality for the position. I think Reiko would be better on the wing he will have more freedom to use his speed.
@@poerava I was watching him on Sat sweep through the opposition and he looked like a good potential centre but he needs to pass more in order to be a good centre but that should come by training.
Having a strong South Africa is good for the game, I love the All Blacks but I don't want them to win easy, we need harder games and other teams are getting better every year
The all blacks don't have a chance against the boks especially they are attacking more now once they are fluid and get it together and also players like De jager, Willemse, moodie, kleyn, kitshoff and Wiese comeback its gonna be nightmare with that depth it's scary
@AvelaMasuku-jh8ji I wouldn't go that far, South Africa are very beatable especially away from home. All Blacks can beat any team on any given day. We tend to play better when we are the underdogs.

As for ball carriers, we have been doing this for years - just set each other into space better. See the gaps and train the peripherals to see the gaps too, let them work to develop a multiple-carry mindset, its our DNA.
I agree with what mills is saying around effective ball carrier's. Its evident watching the test in particular Finau nerds to increase his upper body strength, a lot of times he would try and make ground but didnt really make much in roads. Clearly missing Shannon frizell in that space. I woukd like to see Blackadder in at 6 in try and get a bit more front foot ball.
The tortoise and the hare or 'slow and steady wins the race' i.e., the first of many games to reach the golden 'Team Work Index': 'Internal Experience', 'External Experience' and 'Externally Shared Experience'.
I get tired of the question. Have we still not learnt to get over the fast in your face defense? Here is my question has any team worked that out. Other than the kicking game? Does any team tear SA apart except the ABs?
Yep it's a good question. Simply not playing the game in your own half is a plan which means the kicking game as you say. The passing game will only work if every pass is crisp and accurate....very hard to get right.

Yes but he also put us under a lot of pressure with an mediocre kicking game.
DMac was fearless under that high ball
@@Badmansbandhardly had any bad kicks, he set up a try with a good cross kick. He was able to keep the ball down in the English half 65% of the time and he found touch when he needed too. Other than missing some tough conversions in his first test match this year he played well, ran well, passed well and created alot of opportunities especially in the first half. We missed out on finishing alot of those opportunities, a few changes in selections may be necessary to tidy up those areas.

Not so long ago, if the ABs barely beat England at home by 1 point, that would be concerning. Now we accept it. Mediocrity.

Not one mention of Jordie Barrett and yet for mine he was one of the stand outs of the AB team, he had a huge game and rated a mention.
Oh i thought MacDonald was the attack coach?
@@AK-wc9rl Agree. The defense looked all over the place leading up to England’s 2nd try. All Blacks need to do rush defense too.
Coach was nervous I was nervous watching the game. I'm glad we won, and that was the fastest kick Dmac took kicking it out lol 😂

England are super strong Finishes ..Razor knew ..those Subs saved us ...Christies kicks were perfect off the back
Yes the subs saved us but 2 of Christies kicks weren't perfect. England's 2nd try in the match just after half time started from a bad Christie box kick that led to the 5 points, the missed penalty goal also at the start of the second half was the result of Christies poor management at the back of the scrum and rucks, we only got better in the 60th minute when the subs rolled on.

Pretty happy with the All Black performance. Brutal game and the AB's will improve.
Great discussion btw.
Perfofeta was the difference. He was amazing. Best game I’ve seen him play in black. Slick as. That step. 😱💪
He kind off reminds me of Willie Le Roux at the back on 15 spotting the space controlling the game and striking when the time is right. If your 15 can do that you control the game.
I think the more influential point was Razor picking Pero over Beauden
I've always wondered why a very skilled team doesn't move it's backline deeper, the more traditional line angle, when there is a rush defensive line, and then have 10, or better yet 12, pop kick or kick through with the full back center and winger chasing. Turn the defense around and slow up their rush. Make them react to what you are doing instead of beating your backs against the wall. lots of two man tackles on 1st receivers...Then move up as it opens up.
We could see exactly what your talking about at Eden park on Saturday night
@@theflaver NZ rugby coaches still haven’t figured out how to combat the rush defence.

The English press was talking up their team big time. If not for those penalty misses, it would have been a win for them. Their defence was incredible and made the ABs kick high balls to the wing. Never seen that. Hope we can see another great game on Saturday.
No they weren't. Got a link?
No they weren’t at all. The English media said they would be happy to be within 7 points.
I heard the ref give dmac something not sure wat it was but at the end of the day dmac takes too long in general just kick the fuking thing man, too much emphasis on a 2 point conversions or 3 point penalties take too long
@@ManaBlack208 Dmac shouldn’t make that mistake again but he is not alone
@willscott2409 Better not,if we lost he would of been public enemy No.1
I don't think there should be shot clock. Why? because it provides another avenue to waste time. The referee should simply give one time warning ( 30sec,15secs but only one) on the cue from his official time keeper and leave the players to manage it. If the player has to manage the time left then that player is less likely to fluff around leaving it to the last second.

The ref did give Dmac a verbal countdown and ample opportunity to still take the shot after time had run out. We could hear it clearly on the telly so that was definitely Mckenzie's fault.
Re: shot clock - I was shocked to hear this wasn’t the case, and hope it is rectified for the next test.
100% agreed on Goldys comment on Nuggys impact now that he has gone. TJ and Christie still take a fraction too long clearing the ball and it shows
Roigard going down was massive, he's our best hope to be another world class 9 and the Chiefs 9 is probably behind him.
There were a few penalty kicks that went past the minute over the weekend games and Daimen was the only one pulled up.
We need a clock for consistency all round
Well it depends on when the refs actually take the time from and with different refs it will vary, the law book states the time should be taken straight after the whistle is blown for the penalty,so straight after the ref blows his whistle for the penalty he has 60 seconds which is enough time I believe but your right take it out of the hands of the ref and get a shot clock going, the only thing with that is the crowd may start to yell the countdown while he's about to kick it
@@ManaBlack208 That is not what the law says at all. It's from the time it is indicated to the referee that they intend to kick for goal.

It's called being offside!
I rate 7 rough around the edge but they are growing as a team they don't need to light the fire on scores, I like to see them winning by 1 or 2 ahead
Good comments from the panel, by the way, & a useful performance from both sides, all the critical rot notwithstanding.
there is only room to improve and thats go harder and faster Go the mighty All Blacks from the Central Otago local😎
Razor will soon realise that the AB's need to play like how Foster and team developed them to play by the end of 2023! This style will need to adapt.
Too busy making personal promos, mate.
Missing key players for that like Smith, Mo'unga etc.
Let's be honest at Fullback it will be Will Jordan. Noe Perofeta and Barrett fight for that bench position
I dont say this much but thank you Jeff Wilson from a proud south african
Nit picky but why did yous leave the result of Samoa beating Italy in the results recap? was that a mistake or?
Newzeland have the best team in world rugyb! Lets have that straight! England fan here. What a team. We played really well and got beat by some unbeatable playwers from NZ
McKenzie burning all the time with the kick and the subsequent scrum using up more time (if not for the penalty off it) could be a legit strategy in certain weird situations! The field position is often more important than the 3 points. Still would be better to kick for the corner though.
Lo and behold, Boks are respected by the NZ pundits. We won't be fooled, we'll always play to our strength as and when it suits us.
ABs vs Boks - Rugby Championships!! Bring it on
Kirwan once again not even watching or listening to the game.
Love Victor
South Africa's current edge might lie in the wider range of rugby experience within their squad. Many Springboks compete in overseas leagues, facing diverse playing styles and learning from top coaches from various nations. Coach Rassie Erasmus has also bolstered the team with international coaching expertise. In contrast, New Zealand's strength has traditionally come from a well-honed national style, but this lack of exposure to different approaches could be a disadvantage.
BB is a game changer.. he will be the run on FB against SA mark my words.. If not at 10
I don't think so, Perofeta and Dmac both had good games.
BB does not like contact. He is getting to old… but he is still pretty good.
That is just rubbish, a win is a win
@@pirate3599 It’s rubbish that Robertson had more material to study than his counterpart? I also heard England’s training sessions were being filmed.
So what
@@BS2Dos then surely you would agree that the same single 1 point win S.A. got in the WC final also raises more questions than answers...right? I'm going with your logic here
@@tasiletoa1037 But SA weren’t playing the SF with a new coach in place, were they. Point I’m making is Robertson had the benefit of referencing a few England games, which Borthwick didn’t.
I heard the ref clearly say 20 seconds…..10 seconds. What on earth are these guy’s talking about? There’s no excuse.
Yeah I heard the ref say 10 seconds. Problem was DMac didn't seem to hear him
Well, I'm not complaining about the penalty.
@@2halves12 He was too busy grinning like a mental ward patient.
Just wish Sevu Reece would not be so flat when receiving the ball. He was in front of Ardie Savea when Ardie received the ball from Perofeta and again too flat from another pass from Perofeta.
Tactically it's the all blacks centres who aren't helping - and need Jacobson and Blackadder on the field supporting patrick
NO we are playing Foster 2.0 rugby!!!! Got nothing to do with Ioane or Barrett!
Mildly surprised to see JK so brazenly admit that he wants World Rugby to change the rules because he thinks it would benefit NZ style rugby.
That’s the NZ way.
@@petewisdom1984 This clip should be saved and replayed whenever Kirwan talks nonsense about changing the rules to help the sport.

@Tom_McMurtry he usually claims the former while not acknowledging the later.

Just a bit of poke fun, lads were respectful today.
lol the Ian Smith of NZ rugby broadcasting
TMO won the game for the Boks against Ireland... 3 shocking decisions.. World Rugby should be looking at that TMO...
The Boks were also a little rusty, and your boys are a new crew. They will grow into it. The big fault I saw was the AB’s kicking away possession, if you kick rather make them turn plus AB follow up runners seemed to be absent. England seldom kicked away. Their line pressure was better than the AB’s. You won, learn and improve. I am looking forward to another good test early on Saturday.
I would like to see Caleb Clark developed as a centre he's got the physicality for the position.
I think Reiko would be better on the wing he will have more freedom to use his speed.
I like that thought
I think Telea will make a great centre.
@@petuia8081 yes he would the way he beats tacklers he could set his wingers up really well.
@@petuia8081 hmmm. I like that. He’s one of the most elusive tinnitus since Sivivatu.
@@poerava I was watching him on Sat sweep through the opposition and he looked like a good potential centre but he needs to pass more in order to be a good centre but that should come by training.
Rush defence can be counter attack
It's being offside most of the time!
@@AvelaMasuku-jh8ji Who's the attack coach for the boks? I'll give you a clue...Starts with Tony and ends with Brown...ex All Black!! And just one of many gifted rugby minds in the game...you should've ended your comment with a big THANK YOU NZ FOR TEACHING US HOW TO PLAY RUGBY!!!!
The first thing I'm thinking re the panel: Are they gonna call it as they see it? They started well.
As for ball carriers, we have been doing this for years - just set each other into space better. See the gaps and train the peripherals to see the gaps too, let them work to develop a multiple-carry mindset, its our DNA.
We need to get roigard, jordan, mounga, frizell back and we'll be all good
Frizzell ain't coming back
I like this close Matches,No team can out score each Other.Big Bok Supporter,Go bokke julle Ysters.
Awesome show, well done, out of SA😊
Aron Smith was and is the best half back in the World! Certainly in New Zealand!
It's not just about the ball carrier though is it. It's about the latchers as well. The urgency to get on the ball carrier.
Good effort for first game although I did notice aside from Rico (who is heavily marked) they really lack pace in the backs maybe bring in Narawa
No worries..new coach, missing a few key players?
ABs will improve.
They always do.
Cheers from SA
