+J.A Kenway I watched Holes last year at school, now I'm in high school. I remember me saying 8th grade was horrible when I was in the moment, but, now Im realizing that it could be worse, if only I knew that at the time. maybe I'm looking through Rose-colored glasses but still. anyway this song is somewhat nostalgic to me. Also I am a Metalhead, yes, I know this isn't metal.
I'm a sword but I find myself blunt That is no use when i'm fighting my history, fighting my history I have no blade, I'm more like a feather That is no use when I'm fighting my history, fighting my history I have no blade, I'm more like a feather But I can't fly away without fighting myself--
“If only, if only”, the woodpecker sighs, “the bark on the tree was as soft as the skies.” The wolf waits below, hungry and lonely. He howls to the moon, “If only, if only...”. “If only, if only”, the old woman sighed, “my son were as free as the birds in the sky.” There goes the sailor man, crippled and lonely. He looks to the sea, “If only, if only...”. If only, if only, we would see those people in need that we pass in the street. But we go, hurrying along, while they weep to themselves and sing this song: “If only, if only”, the woodpecker sighs, “the bark on the tree was as soft as the skies.” While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely. He cries to the moon, “If only, if only...”.
Just what I needed. Someone asked me to recite the poem for them yesterday and afterward I commented I love this song. They questioned the fact that there's a song. NOW I HAVE MY PROOF~ I love this song
"If only, If only the woodpecker sighs, the bark on the tree was as soft as the sky's, As the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely, he cries to the moon, if only, if only."
If only if only, the moon speaks no reply.Reflecting the sun and all that's gone by. Be strong, my weary wolf, turn around boldly. Fly high,my baby bird. My angel. My only.
i love this song, for my seet 16 b-day my dad and i did a father daughter dance to this. and it will be the same on my wedding day :) Be Respectful -Bridget
They didn't have to read it in advanced algebra... Idk how many DECADES it's been but I still DONT KNOW WHY I HAD TO but I am very grateful so idk. They ought to though
"The wolf waits below, hungry and lonely... he cries to the moooooon, if only if only~" And I couldn't recall for the life of me where I'd heard it originally. :o
@contortionistgurl The rest of the song is about Holes too...If you would just listen to the lyrics. For example- "The old man's been stealing" Stanly's no-good-dirty-rotten-big-stealing-great-great-Grandfather. "We have to give in to a hundred year curse"- Stanly's family has been cursed for 100 years. "Blisters and blood and the sun makes you blind" Blisters and cuts from digging and the bright dessert sun.
I read this in a book club in fifth grade, and loved it. I was so excited because my teacher told us it was going to be made into a movie...and I love the movie as well! I heard this song at the end and I loved it - perfect! Now only if it was on iTunes...:)
It may have been commissioned from the movie producers. The chorus of the song however was written by the author of the book Louis Sachar, the rest of the lyrics were written by the band Fiction Plane. On the CD booklet, Sachar is credited as one of the songwriters for this song.
I was quite sad when I found that this song was not on iTunes, even though a couple of their albums were up there. I really just wanted to get this song, because it's so fantastic.
Wal-Mart and most big-box stores will probably carry the soundtrack to the movie "Holes." This song is on that CD. If you don't feel like shopping around, just google "Holes Movie Soundtrack" and dozens of hits come up where you can buy it online. :o)
I loved this movie so much!!! and this song is so amazing!!! XD if only if only the woodpecker sighs, the bark on the trees was as soft as the skies, the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely, he cries to the moon, if only if only.
We just read the book in English lesson and I couldn't imagine the song while I was reading it... but since I've heard it I can't sing anything else... it's so beautiful
I really love this song, I do, but I love the way Stanley Madame Zeroni sing the chorus better in the movie. It sounds more of an old folktale that way haha :) Love that movie.
It should be "I am a sword, but I find my self blunt. But that is no use, when i'm fighting my history, fighting my history. I am no blade, I am more like a feather. . ." and so on and so forth.
yea he is, ive been a fan for a long time, most ppl hear of them through sting but this was how i found the Ladyofnorth, if youd like this song get the movie "Holes" soundtrack i got it when it came out so i dont know if it;d be hard to find, prolly on amazon or somethin tho
@ninjajake21 It goes that way: If only, if only," the woodpecker sighs, "The bark on this tree were as soft as the skies." While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely, Crying out to the moon, "If only, if only." "If only, if only." The moon speaks no reply Reflecting the sun and all that's gone by. I can't sing.
But nobody can say you did you didn’t sing.
The feelings that this song gives me can't be described; a mixture of melancholy, nostalgia, euphoria.

how can you dislike this? what is wrong with this song? really people, really?
the song is great but it must be fighting, not finding. all the lyrics are on google. google them first.
Amen.
They don’t believe in the Zeroni-Yelnats curse.
My problem is the rhythm isn’t like in the movie. But I never give a dislike just for that
