Both decks are awesome. Thanks
Just beautiful pieces of machinery. Truly a piece of art.
Pioneer wins in my book. And I love the ZX-9 but age does make a difference and the Pioneer is a young lad compared to the old man XZ-9.
CT-91suona esattamente come voglio io,ZX-9 buona prestazione
CT-91 is one of the best decks between others Pioneer`s decks as for the sound, but Nakamichi is much more better on sound.
The pioneer is slightly bass coloured, and a shade shut in, the Nak has a more tuneful bass and is slightly more transparent generally. Good sound quality on this channel.
Nah can't produce enough details to fully reproduce the same stage as Pioneer does. But both decks are super cool after I upgraded them.
Truly hot looking gear!
Pioneer ct a9x it is my favorite
On my mind, A9 is too bold and soft sounding deck...
CT-A9D is better
@@pearlvision7156 Sony TC-K777ES !
@@KR1275 And 777 without ES too
Ha! Opened the vid at a random time mark and guessed Pioneer correctly. A hifyish sound. Nak is a king
Do you find Pioneer difficult to achieve good W&F with modern replacement belts?
it was hard unless I installed the brand new motor and then I got 0.027% WRMS watch my videos where I achieve that :)
I think this comparison isn`t fair, Nak rarely goes +3db, while Pioneer goes +10dB. That`s why Nak sounds a bit cleaner and Pioneer is prone to pumping (saturation) effect.
Pioneer +10 is Nak +6. That is how scale built. The pumping is result of elevated bass after increased capacitor values. It is elevated 1.5 dB below 100 Hz.
@@hifirulezzz +10 dB is too hot, even for metal tapes
@@digitalvinyls3544 please pay attention on where the Dolby symbol on display is. And read about different scales. Pioneer using scale when 0 db is 160 nWb. I. e. 4 dB lower level than normal scale of Sony decks, etc.
the 2 deck sound are similar but i think i prefer the clear sound of the Nakamichi. But sincerely its very close. You used Metal tape with no Dolby NR ?
Sony Metal XR and no Dolby, correct.
@@hifirulezzz because of you i buy 2 months ago my first Nakamichi deck . you and another one on youtube who playback a old cassette he made with a Depeche mode song on a Nakamichi DR-3. i know you have a DR-2 and i like yout video vs . i buy a deck Nakamichi DR-3 to a place in Montreal who clean and tuned electronics. The DR-2 or 1 are to expensive for me but the DR-3 are ok for me. Its a 2 heads but alots of specialist said maybe the best 2 heads never make. thanks
@quebecforce111 I have several hundred cassettes recorded on a Dragon in the 80’s and 90’s and they sound incredible on my DR-3. For playback it’s the best bang for the buck and they surprisingly great recordings. The only other 2 head decks that come close IMO are the Yamaha k-950 and K-960. They are older but can compete with most 3 head decks.
@@professorvoluck9311 I own DR-1, DR-2, DR-10, great decks. a bit of personality, but sounds great.
Pioneer 👍👍

Hi hifirulezzz. What do you do with all of those high-end cassette decks that you repair?
Most of these decks found new owners. I am trying to keep about a dozen, not more.
Thank you for adding this video HiFirulezzz ..Wonderful performers..
I have few question from you :)
1. There are few 1uF/50v (LN) caps in DB board - Can we use Fine Gold or USE PB?
2. There are few 0.33uF (LN) caps in DB board - Hard to find from Nichicon brand - What is the best alternative? Can we introduce Film capacitors for these 0.33uF in Dolby board?
3. What is the type of cap you recommend in Power supply section? (ex. UVZ or UPS type instead of Fine Gold?)
4. What is the purpose to do the recording with GarageBand software?
5. Above video + sound track recorded by your mobile phone or digital camera OR video recorded by camera and added sound tack into the final video which was recorded in GarageBand?
What deck are you asking? I rarely do full recapping. Only when it is essential to restore the deck and caps are really bad. But I replace all caps sitting on the sound path. I.e. when sound goes through these caps. For polar I am using FineGold and for non-polar I use Muse series whenever possible. And today we have less and less options available. Both Muse and FineGold series are not in production anymore. Get what you can, it still will be better than 40-50 years old capacitors. And experiment. In some of my decks I replaced caps 3 times! Unless I am happy with the sound.
Also, the Garage band is just a recorder to WAV from an external source. No difference in which one to use, but this one is free.
@@hifirulezzz I am referring Nak ZX-9. Dolby board include this 1uF(LN) caps in signal path .. And there are some caps as 0.33uF(LN).
@@hifirulezzz Always I tried with chap mobile to record video + sound track - But the outcome is not good due to poor mobile preference - This is why I asked that question.!
@@kasunjayasena I said I used Scarlett 2i2 audio interface to play music and record. It has perfect DAC and ADC built in.
Micro details, the scene, the dynamics are on the side of Nakamichi.
The Pioneer has a little less noise.
Do you ever record vinyl to cassette? I’d love to see how these two beauties record analog.
I have played vinyl on my system and did not like it. Low dynamic range. Hi-Res is far superior and can keep all the details from the original reel records. Try DSD or 24/192. You will forget about Vinyl.
The Pioneer is a more modern deck with later technologies. For example it has a bias frequency of 210 kHz (Nak 105kHz) and HX Pro. Pioneer used (made?) very good transports, on par with Sony ES decks.
CT-91 has 105 kHz BIAS. JFYI. T-838 had 160kHz and T-858 aka CT-93 had 210kHz. I had to change capacitor values in Pioneer to make it sound that well.
@@hifirulezzz T-858 is probably CT-979. But it's CT-93 but without Dolby S :)
@@hifirulezzz CT-91 has more clear and natural sound than CT-93
What is diff between ct 91 and 91a. Just the cosmetic ?
All voltage, and later generation.
Tough test recording electric bass gtr; reminds me of Dominique di Piazza. Pioneer picks up all the fingering nuances .. I'd b delighted with the sound .. wish me luck/about 2 pull trigger on 1 in good nick .. we'll see. Mmmm, maybe best 2 test same portion of recording 4 a fairer comparison.
How about selling me one of those high-end decks.

Пионеер понравился больше. Спасибо.
Nak has more hiss
Old tape used over 1,000 times :)
Naka !
2:00 Bias is not good. I see it is +3 dB.
Common, +1 dB is barely blinking. This is how this deck should be tuned. In calibration mode scale is stretched, check the Cal row - +1,2,3,4 where the regular goes to +10.
