Akai GX-F91 Restoration Part 2: Unlocking Door Mechanism Mysteries
Hello. One of my friends claims that the search for pauses back does not work on his soundboard. Deka Akai 91. Go ahead, it's working. Is this possible? Alexander.
@@user-wb1pg3zz1u he should turn selector to IPSS position.
I thought you only did Cassette decks:)
Good morning sir just out of interest did you change the incandescent bulb in the cassette well & could you tell me what voltage it is please.. kind regards from the UK
@DAVIDWILLIAMS-qn1be I am installing LED of a nice blue color. Find my recent videos - I did show it.
👋👋
What do you think of the 3002A compared to the 3006A?
Wonderful. But why do they instruct to use LEDs for biasing? What advantage does it have over multimeter? eg: more sensitive?
That is how it is described in the service manual. I was measuring the values in parallel and as you may see these are jumping a lot.
Hello, as always, specific material, everything described thoroughly and concisely, thank you for a great video, best regards.
Absolutely sounds great! What's the title of that first song you played on it?
The song "Get me closer" on the Album "Brooklyn Blues" by Best Acoustic voices on Tidal.
Sounds wonderful my friend!
Thanks for a great video
Very nice. I love the Sony stack, also.
Wow. It’s like magic! You pulled a robot out of your hat, getting so much out of that old head.
Magnificent aound, great demo!
Nice job but becarefull with the voltages the outputs can give you a a shock !
Great job my friend!
Hello, do you have any video with aiwa xk s7000, thank you
No, I don't, sorry.
im happy owner of this deck, i bought around 3-4 months ago as faulty and previous person did lots of disasters, was lots of work but i fix that. some transistors was faulty (the big one for motors), cam motor was faulty (dead spots) and one IC412 was faulty. not to mention that display didnt work and mechanism was very bad. today finaly is fixed. temporary all orange caps replaces but waiting for all wima and vishai. once the delivery will come up from mouser ill do full restoration. ps, the bulbs was brocken to. basicly nothing was working. now all is working but need proper job. i think it will be my best deck :)
The looseness of the door comes from a worn "collar" (Ref. No. 2-63), and the cassette gets stuck when entering because the force of the "plate cassette holder" (Ref. No. 2-26) cannot oppose the force provided by the other cassette holder ( Ref. No. 2-60). The reference numbers are part of the mechanical block on page 14-15 of the manual that I have. :)
I have thought about this. I understand that Slide Eject 2-61 is late on the timing chain and should pull clutch 2-18 a bit earlier. The cassette shell gets jammed by the heads before it gets into place.
@@hifirulezzz Unfortunately, there are several parts that move each other and are mutually dependent... The first thing I would check is 3-13 (picture on the next page with the motor block), over time the elasticity of that part increases, the upper and lower "tab" is a bit too wide while moving though they look perfect when stationary. They usually help to shrink/squeeze a little towards the axis. I've seen the screw that holds it loosen a bit and the whole part is loose, but that's rare. Since you are actively involved in servicing, compare it with a well-behaved mechanism, it might give you an idea of what the problem is. :) Happy hunting :)
After first seeing this model in person I was very taken with the design. I so wanted to buy one of these decks. However, I couldn't swing the price and wound up buying Sony's TC-FX6C instead. That deck is still with me and still working great, now 42 years later.
I bought my Sony TC-FX6C new back in 1982. 42 years later it is still going strong and has never experienced any problems. It still sounds very good to me and seems surprisingly stable (I’m not able to detect any wow & flutter). While it has always been well taken care of, given its age I’m guessing that it is likely no longer performing as good as new.
I got Adf-770 AiwA. Thats a cool looking. Not this square sharp edge old style box akkai.👍
Pfff. Plastic Aiwa. No DD motor. I have fixed F990 and was not impressed. Nor by design nor by sound.
Another fine video and repair by the Master
I had my Revox B-710 fully serviced by what I consider the best Revox technician around. The machine plays and records perfectly, fwd and rewind is fast and smooth. Dolby circuits work properly and the timer works. But! I also have this dreaded hum which is bothersome but I can live with it. I am sure this is the reason why Nakamichi designed a transport which pushes the pressure pad away! I find no other explanation!
I don't know if this deck is in the same place like Tandberg TCD 910 or Nakamichi 1000ZXL
Would you ever consider selling this deck?
IMO, rather than using frequency sweep test in NAK T100, you would be better off using signal monitoring (oscilloscope) feature while feeding in those particular frequencies of the audio signal range, and with that on the monitor, also evaluating the stability of the amplitude and phase of the signal, not just its absolute recorded level. This way you would get a better overview of how the deck actually performs as a tape recorder. What you are evaluating with the frequency sweep test is more a tape formulation performance than it is a recording quality. Anyway, thanks for your video and as usual, a more scientific approach in your content. Keep on a good work 🙂
European audio enthusiasts and Akai distributors ought to have sued Akai for never distributing this deck in Europe. The pain of never having had this deck in Europe will linger on forever. My dream deck that can never be as it is only available in 100V/120V 60Hz etc. What a shame! Without this deck the '93 series was never completed - what would have been one of the best affordable hifi audio systems ever, will simply never be. Even worse, the '95 series was even more incomplete (no tuner, dat recorder or cd player) and even the deck was significantly different. After those series, Akai went downhill and into the no return land.
Great work! Thank you
0DB recording with TDK tapes is hard. I like Sony tapes for this test as well.
Beautiful deck with great performance
pretty good, i need to have a look at what my yamaha kx-1200 and kenwood kx-1100 can do with metal
Congratulations 🎉 and Respect for bringing such monster tape decks back to life 👍
Thank you for a nice video!
TOP
thanks
I have same deck. For some reason, the mid frequencies and high frequencies are not reproduced either during playback or during recording. If pre- recorded tapes are played, the issues remains. What could be the problem? Any suggestions?
@baredesigns1 High frequencies are not reproduced due to azimuth, but if your deck doesn't play mid range check if the heads are touching the tape properly.
Hi, love your videos, find them very helpful and appreciate your efforts very much. I also enjoy vintage stereo gear very much. Please tell me what kind of lubricant and grease do you recommend for restoring this kind of equipment ? If you have a list that would be great. Great quality video and sound, also explanations are great too. Thank you.
I'm sorry for question, but, can you tell were you find new sony head? Thank you
@talbar1960 Ah, he had it for 10 years. Today find a new head is an impossible task.
why don't you show how to desassembly the mechanism from start
@orlymontero6166 I did multiple times, check videos on my channel. I do not want repeat myself .
Nakamichi: bad caps, lots of crap bad quality plastic parts, bad design decisions. What's the hype about?
that is a fantastic tape transport mechanism
I have a HK-HK400XM which I have similar problems during Calibration, I will set the bias and it say set to the 4- Coils for lt and rt to Minimum is it better to mintage a good sin wave and have both channels equal? Later when checking after playback Bias setting should it have 00 after adjusting it? I set LT ch to 00 but Rt ch is cant get it to 0 is that a problem? Thanks again
😂
Can you hear the difference/ improvement in sound after replacing the power caps? Im thinking to replace my old caps but I measured the value & it's still in the tolerance (20%).
Every single time! You may ask the owner, Larry, below
