My battery just died after 6 years. Paid $6 for replacement battery and now it's back up and running. Thanks for the detailed video, it helped a ton.
What's the trick to getting the eject cams aligned?
Nejhezčí tapedeck všech dob. Skutečný highend.
Thanks for the video. I transferred 25,000 songs from Apple to Tidal, it took almost 2 days. Never again, I hope Tidal never goes out of business.
Thank you for the video As far as it consider the Dolby level and meter range the manual says different setting than you used. It says 338mV at test points near dolby chip not -5dB at line out !
CR-7a was probably the best deck Nakamichi made measurement wise.
Hi! What audio is going into the PC - Signal into unit input - direct to unit output? Or Signal to unit input - to TAPE - to tape output - back to PC / NAK T-100? Thanks.
It's great that you still keep saving this underrated audio equipment.bravo ,

The best-looking cassette deck ever produced. Best sounding too as I still play mine almost every day. Flawless in EVERY way!!!
New amazing repairing and video. I named it Blue moon Nakamichi
Großartiger Vergleich. Danke dafür 👍✌️🙂
If I’m not mistaken on an Apple device, you have to use the camera adapter to get high res into a DAC. Is that what you do on your Apple devices? I think if you go directly from the lightning port into a DAC it tops out at 24/48. I don’t know on the newer devices with USB-C. This is what I’ve always done on my iPhone, when I connected it directly to a DAC. Anymore I use a Wiim mini optical out to my DAC.
@@Rich-h4k it is USB C, not lightening
@ hmm that’s strange, and I’m wondering if it’s not Tidal if it’s a glitch in iOS.
@ it’s a Tidal app issue. I have installed Roon and it plays Tidal content just fine, but perfect.
Hopefully there will be an update to address the issue.
Beautiful decks! Both are superb Nakamichi machines. I love the CR-7!
Hi, I have been experiencing this issue with apple music and I am suspecting my wi-fi connection as my playback often stops. I am now considering ethernet cabling but for now I am trying downloading apple music to my IOS and Mac to prove that it is my wi-fi
Hi Res, basically moving distortion futher up the chain to make it easier to impliment cheap dacs and charge more money. Plenty of info on the internet showing how identical music masters released on 24/192 and 16/44 can not be dicerned by listeners, incuding reviewers and mastering engineers, in ABX testing. Also info on how 16/44 is all the dynamics and frequency range we can deal with and hear as humans in a domestic environment. You then add that the majority of music on this planet is actually 16bit resolution or less, and that the majority of mics used in the music industry cannot acurately capture above 20Khz or do high dynamic range, and you quickly see by dynamic range of 96db to 106db with a frequency range of 10hz to 20Khz is more than we need and more than most audio equipment can actually produce. Even funnier is that all this music is recorded with $2 per meter starquad running many many meters into patch bays running further lengths into more patch bays and mixers through conduit, so some engineer can take half a dozen different tracks recorded on different days in different rooms, then with plug ins and all manner of stuff, distort, add punch, remove dynamics, increase levels here, decrease levels there, equalize this, compress that and pan all these individual rooms into what sounds like a sound stage with depth and width and placement of instruments, so he can then downmix from 24/192 to 16/44, where HiRes streaming platforms then restream at claimed higher resolution, so audiophiles can then claim they hear 50Khz and more detail from the recording with their $6000 interconnects than you could ever get from cheap cable or physical media. Crazy days, my houseplant told me. But in all seriousness people are paying for hi res and simply enjoying a different mastering, not hearing hi res, its as big a scam as cables.
@@SastusBulbas1 are you reposting stuff from the internet or did you test yourself? I do test everything myself and I clearly hear the difference. And I own a library of SACD discs which were recorded from life performances. Those are two layer disks and I can compare SACD and CD layers. You would not believe your ears when you will hear the stage from SACD layer. Full presence. So, stop posting something you have never tried yourself.
I love the black plastic plate and the piece of metal (aluminum?) that you use to adjust the left pinch roller with the nut. Is this original Sony or where did you get it from?
Tidal bitrate conversion is not working on iOS devices these days. I don't know why but they don't fix it for a long time. It works correctly on windows devices and Tidal connect also works fine.
I'm currently use Tidal as it was supposed to be better than the super popular Spotify in terms of frequency!
Thanks for the video, I wonder if it’s not a setting somewhere? I use Tidal from the Wiim mini, optical into my Topping DAC then into my receiver. I always get 96 or 192 when available. It sounds like something is creating a bottleneck on your end, either that or setting on Tidal. I know you have to enable it, I’m assuming you did. Kind of strange but Tidal is my favorite, much better since they got rid of the MQA in my opinion.
I agree, I like the variety of albums which I can't find on other services, but last month I observing even drop outs on 96 kHz which happens over weekend ONLY. Workdays it plays 96 kHz just fine. And I have 1 Gbit Fios network. Sad.
I agree - this is regulatory over reach by RUclips. Either have a minimum of a minute of copyright before you get a strike or pro-rate the 40min to give them 6 secs of revenue. Giving all the revenue to copyright owners is ridiculous.
You can always play 400Hz without a penalty (until someone gets it copyrighted ;)
They all do not allow to select a release year. As a rule the younger release is the worse a sound is: compressed, not natural, with bumps and deeps on a FR graph. All online services prefer the youngest over remastered releases (a sound is adjusted for a car or a gym). Fortunately I don’t listen to music released after 90s too much, I don’t have any subscription, and I can choose between CDs released prior 90s, or a vinyl.
Play and record your own content or royalty free content. As I understand it, RUclips only pulls it down if the copyright owner reports it. And the agents that are looking for violations get a percentage of anything they find.
@@SinnerSince1962 I am fine to pay for 6 seconds, not 38 minutes. That is not fair practice.
@ Yeah, but knowing they will strike your video for any content, even seconds, I’d just find a way to avoid their insane practice altogether
I notice a lot of attention had been given to details and I cannot understand how you overlooked the pinch roller. If it was this shiny it must have been pretty gone already 2 years ago. As a rule of thumb if there is a slipping clutch the reel spindles need to be greased or lubricated. Of course if the tension is provided by the hub itself more viscous grease must be used.
@@m80116 the problem is that replacement for Nakamichi rollers is not easily available due to the size. These rollers are 7 mm wide vs other decks 8mm.
@@hifirulezzz I can probably see where you're going, I am assuming it was 13/7/2 and you probably had 13/8/2 in which case the closest replacement is 13/6.5/2 with plastic hub. Did you find it in the end? I have adapted some 13.5/8/2 plastic hub to machines that required in the past to fit in an approx 7mm pin slot.
@@m80116 it is not, Original Nakamichi transport uses 11x7x2. I found now a source, posted video recently.
it's frustrating, i would cut that part of the video, or mute the audio for 6 seconds, and re-upload it.
Hi :) What do you think about asking Tidal directly about this issue?
@@marmotamarmota2531 I tried to ask Qobuz about why sound is processed and not the same as original and has never got an answer.
Great!
Be aware that the content posted by you it is much more important for many people who are passionate about this world of analog recording. Get over this unpleasantness, maybe you will manage to find quality audio sources without copyright and continue to post the same interesting content. I understand your frustration.
Excellent, thank you! 😊 Amazing how close both decks were to the source! However, what stood out for me the additional noise the Pioneer recording displayed when switching over to Sony at 18:54 Min., switching over to Source at 19:50 and back from Source to Pioneer at 19:54 (all without Dolby B or C). BTW, noise on “Hello” (starting at 7:01) was a bit too much for my taste on both so I would have opted for recording (and playing back) at least with Dolby B on this track. That’s of course no fault of those decks…

How much do you charge for fixing my ZX-9 Nakamichi and how do I send it to you? I lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I bought my deck brand new in the 80s I am a disabled senior and I still listen to all of my old tapes. I hope it's not very expensive to fix because I do not have much money yet. It is not running for more than 10 years now.
Usually I charge between $350 and $500 for ZX-9, unless you want to have recapping, etc. Send me inquiry to hifirulezzz@gmail.com
Cassette Comeback used to have his own music and used some of the RUclips Audio Library for that reason, it is what it is you can't use Copyrighted Music without licensing and even fair uses claims will cause you to lose your stats and can leading to enough copyright strikes and eventually suspension.
Nakamichi! I have owned one. Also an Akai and TEAC!
You should record a cassette for the free to use music on RUclips. To test the decks. I hope you don't get discouraged I really like your videos and I learn a lot from them👍.
As a fellow RUclipsr, I sympathize with you. The only solution for a now is for you to use music from their copyright free library
Frustrating ! I used music claimed to be Royalty free, and using it , video got flagged 4 days later for 1 tune used and about a week later the 2nd tune . Both tunes were from the same tub vieo and were listed as Royalty free , go figure ! Frustrating.. .
Can you tell me please is this WLA Labs azimuth cassete accurate? Thanks
Are you still around fixing the Nakamichi Tape Deck? My old Nakamichi ZX-9 that I purchased new in the 1980s is not working anymore for more than 10 years now. It still power on but not playing or rewinding or fast forward no more. I was thinking maybe it's the belt. Maybe you can give me some ideas on where to look or how to fix it myself. I really missed that deck now and I do not want to sell it but I have no money to get it fix. I am a senior now and my hobby is listening to music since I was a kid.
@@JasperAsher-lv1yg remove the bottom cover and replace short square belt on the command gear. If capstan belt is still ok you will get a few more years out of it. I can do this but it still not cheap to get deck to best specs. Not as much as Willi, but still not a charity
I bought a brand new Nakamichi ZX-9 in the 80s but it's not working anymore. It just quit playing on me now but it still powers on. It's been like that for more than 5 years now. I just cannot afford to get it fix and I do not know anyone in my area who knows how to fix a cassette deck. Willy Herman from California wants almost a thousand to fix it.
A real great job. Many thanks for the video.
Stupid, unserviceable design. Mine is intermittently blacking out and acting intermittent and probably has a bad battery. Not sure I want to fix it or buy another one either. EDIT: Cracked the faceplate during removal anyway, and that part doesn't seem to be available anywhere.
Thanks for the video. Is there any difference internally between A&D gx-z9100 and the gx-z7100?
@@Rich-h4k yes, 9100 playback and record amplifiers made of discrete components when 7100 using ICs.
@ thank you.
