  • Welcome to the final part of the Akai GX-73 restoration! In this episode, I dive into the last stages of getting this beautiful deck back to perfect condition. First, I replaced capacitors on the direct drive motor board to ensure the motor starts reliably every time. Next, I focused on the audio board, where one channel wasn’t making it to the output.
Things took a turn when I discovered that several pots were broken due to shipping damage. After a long wait for replacement parts, I finally installed new pots and replaced the polypropylene capacitors. Now, this Akai GX-73 is fully functional again, delivering that classic sweet Akai sound.
    🔧 Restoration Highlights:
Motor Board Repair: Replaced capacitors on the direct drive motor board, resolving motor start issues.
Audio Board Fix: Troubleshooted and fixed the one-channel output issue, bringing the audio back to life.
New Pots Installation: After discovering broken pots, I installed new replacements, ensuring smooth control and long-term reliability.
Polypropylene Capacitors: Upgraded capacitors to enhance sound quality and stability.
    🎶 Sound Quality:
Sweet Akai Sound: The Akai GX-73 is now back to its original glory, delivering rich, clear audio that Akai decks are known for.

Unless the carbon track is really messed up crimped joints can be restored using conductive paint. I've already restored incredibly tiny unobtanium pots on portable devices with it: miracle paint.

Yes, I have tried this silver based paint too. It actually works well once it dries completely.
