really enjoyed this one! Really interesting noting the difference between the driving styles, Nate always seems to have minimal input and always seems on top of the car, Jimmy is very much throwing it in and managing the oversteer that comes. Both are amazingly quick though, and I think the cars were pretty well represented, I think both cars in the finale were more Nate's style where Jimmy was able to take the 3000GT quite deep into the competition since he was able to get more out of the boat with his aggressive style.
The video was a great showcase for Assetto Corsa's physics. The squatting of various cars under acceleration was fantastic. Were these mostly Polyphony's models ported across?
wow this was so freaking COOL jimmer! watching the JDM legends battle it out, fighting tooth and nail to win each round. that finale was spectacular! GG jimmer and nate :)
Can't wait to drive my NA1 again. Made my day on this cold winter day. Thanks a lot. Amazing that RX7 and NSX are the same pace! The NSX is still underpowerd IMO.😅
Having just done a road trip through Japan, the only thing missing from these maps are the constant スピード落とせ (reduce speed) and スピード注意 (watch speed / be careful about your speed) signs. There's only one or two here, but they're everywhere in real life.
That was a good run. As an owner it's always a pleasure seeing an rx7 win. I have a friend with a mostly stock 97 vr4, and It's quite a pleasure to drive. The weight is there, but the suspension is firm and has minimal body roll so it feels planted and confidence inspiring.

Awesome video, loved this one! Super exciting battles every minute. Would be great to see this with a different selection of cars. Hot hatches, Lamborghini vs Ferrari ect.
3:21 No. Initial D didn't lie, they made it very clear that the AE86 was slow. But Takumi had mastered his driving on that car and knew it's limits like no other. The first engine was lightly tunned with 150HP. The second engine was a "Silver top" 4A-GE racing engine originally from a TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Group A AE101 with 240hp. All that said, yes it's still slow 😂😂😂😂😂 Btw, that's in the manga's lore. Chapter 75 - Page 10/11 - "Maximum horsepower rated at probably about 150 hp." Chapter 151 - Page 16 - "That's a 240 horsepower high speed unit"
And even initial d made a point that great technique can only take you so far. Eventually you’ll have to move on to a faster one if you want to improve even further. “If you don’t learn to spread your wings, you hit the ground.” - Bunta when he has Takumi drive the Impreza
@@skrublordnord69 Yeah. the AE-86 is a good car for learning to drift/race. it's small, light and has just enough power to be fun, just like a Miata. But since the Initial D franchise is loosely based on Keiichi Tsuchiya's life and he's a big AE-86 fan, the car is put on a pedestal. Don't get me wrong, that little Corolla is a good machine, but c'mon It can't beat all the cars in the manga that easily lol
@@Henry.25 facts. I get they put a better engine in but the race with the s2000 shouldn’t have even been a question. And yeah they do mention that in that episode but he still won lol I will say tho, I’m glad the end of the 86 was winning a race against another 86. Such a fitting end to that car, even if there’s a lot of plot armor leading up to it
@@Henry.25 as someone who recently got into the show, as sadly I never got to watch it as a kid, I started agreeing with that car being as good as the show said. Then I started driving it in racing games and that’s when I saw just how underpowered the car really was. Ik I drove it in Roblox, I don’t have a pc or AC so I can’t really drive an accurate version of it in the same courses that are in the show. So I played Roblox instead. And it was a good two months of practicing and tuning to try to push that car to its limit and my own. I learned a lot for sure, but I also learned that there’s some cars you just have no chance in beating, no matter how good of a driver you are or how well you know the course. I’ll still hold the car near and dear to my heart, and I’ll still have fun racing other underpowered cars in it. But no way am I gonna say it’s viable against the more powerful ones. And ik Tsuchiya himself even won against an r34 but he’s a god of a driver. And even HE says the car has its limits.
@@skrublordnord69 The AE-86 is indeed a underpowered car, but driving a slower car can be very useful, especially in corners. A powerful car can't stay in full throttle on a tight corner so it ends up losing time and because of higher speeds it also spends more time breaking. If you watch Keiichi Tsuchiya, AE86 vs. GTR-R34 you'll realize that a lighter car that doesn't need a lot of breaking power can stay accelerating for longer and that's how you can beat a R34 with an AE-86. But to be fair, you'll probably need at least 300whp on a very balanced and optimized car to beat an original R34 using the corners as advantage points (if you aren't called Tsuchiya). If I'm not wrong, both Tsuchiya's AE-86's that beat the R34 had 1.8L 4A-GE engines with 180hp and weighted 2,000 lb max, In comparison the R34 GTR weighs 3,400 lb and has 290~320hp. In the end, the AE-86 is good at teaching the driver the limits of their abilities and the basics of driving fast, but the car is limited to only this. If you want to be competitive, especially in drifting, you'll need at least a 1JZ with 400hp. I don't know how Roblox works, but I would recommend a 350z or a Toyota Cresta/Chaser mod
this was just as entertaining to watch the actual togue with Keichi san and their crazy commentary! LOVED THIS ONE! Should do more like this, JIMMY'S TOGUE!
This was super interesting as it confirms the testing that I’ve done. I’ve been running the pikes peak hill climb with a ton of different 90s jdm cars. It eventually came down the the rx7 and nsx. But just like your testing, they are so incredibly close. Over a 10 and a half minute hill climb, I’ve pushed both cars to there limits. They sit less than half a second apart in times. The nsx holds the half a second for those wondering.
@@humandroid53oh it absolutely is. The RX7 has a fun but controllable slide to it where the NSX could put you into the ditch at any moment. It’s hard to deny the grip from the nsx out of the hairpins though
However in real life the 90’s Celica is King of Pikes Peak, and countless WRC wins. Even stock GT-4/All-Trac Group A beats all (Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche) in 21st century - Adelaide Rally Anyone.
It’s honestly kinda impressive how the GTO hangs with the rest of the cars, despite being one of the older models with less improvements- heavier, less power, and a gear less than the later model year counterparts that were on sale at the same time as the other cars were. When it came out (1990), the version shown here was sold along side the R32, FC, and Mk3 supra.
Man, this is incredible content. This is what all our childhood dreams are made of. AC is incredible for facilitating fun like this. I would love to see another showdown type video like this, you could do JDM again but then on a gravel stage. Or go with a completely different set of cars. The options are limitless with AC! Incredible video, genuinely enjoyed it.
Yes! FD RX7 has always been my favorite. First thing I'd buy if I won the lottery. Sure they're unreliable, not economic, and cost a fortune to maintain. But so are kids, and people have them all the time! Plus just look at them 😍 and the sound they make? It actually hurts that I'll likely never get to drive one. Great video man.
Well if you take the ae86 from Initial D its nit really a stock one even in the first stage its been made a proper "Race Car" by Bunta, id really like to see a mod of Takumis last stage car i think that one would be a proper car to go around Touge, i dontt say it would win but it will def rank higher
Yeah, almost everything besides the engine was tuned. Rally transmission gearing, suspension tune, brakes weren't factory either... That 86 was a low power beast, purpose built to train Takumi from the ground up. The other half of that legend was just Takumi driving way more than most racers ever could afford, at the start of the show he has been driving illegally for years.
Format here is brilliant and I think the idea of "which one of the things that were cool is best", kinda resolving the arguments we had as children and teens.
TBH, in Gran Turismo 2, the EVO was definitely "quicker" than the WRX, but the WRX had a higher top speed--it seemed like the EVO was geared to get to 200km/h as quickly as possible and, once you get the handle on the understeer, switching out the transmission turned it into a 290km/h BEAST.
You should do a part 2 of it! After all, as amazing as all these cars are, they’re mainly just great platforms to do something with. Would love to see the tuned up and properly built street versions go up against each other, if that was even possible in sim.
That was an awesome video! Would love to see more in this style. Maybe an 80s JDM showdown (MX-5, R32 GT-R, older Supra and RX-7), or take some cool European or American cars.
Given the MX-5 debuted in '89, I think it belonged in this video rather than your (great!) idea. Add the Celica as well, maybe have it race a Supra in the first round to show the evolution of the car.
One of your best videos so far Jimmy, that was so cool seeing these JDM legends get put through their paces. Here in NZ we had all these cars (well, versions of them at least); only the NSX was always a rare beast but the others you'd see pretty much daily 20-25 years ago; lower spec versions in most cases obviously but many had been tuned to within an inch of their existences. Crazy how times have changed.
Absolutely godlike video, please make more of this, maybe with tuned versions of these cars, or something like one-lap battles on Tsukuba with these or racecars. And Nate can stay as well, you two go along like PB and Jelly 😂. Keep it up and 'till the next video.
What a joyful and exciting video that is! I propose you redo that in another track like Twin Motegi short course). Not by luck the tuned FDs (RE Amemiya and Fujita ones) were for years the best cars in Touge.
Great video, always enjoy the touge stuff! Some great driving (by Nate) in these JDM legends. Keep up the hard work jimmer, much love from the cold north!
I really appreciate Time Attack in Gran Turismo with these JDM cars and their European counterparts. Can't wait to do this in Assetto Corsa too! You can really see the differences in handling and total balance of the cars, even in older games.
Really good one, you radiate joy when your doing this type of stuff jimmy. 🤩Next time maybe worth doing the "time attack" thing they where doing before the race ?🤔 And obviously you cannot satisfy everyone but i think it would be interesting to see those car in a round 2 : -Honda Civic ek9 type R -Honda Integra type R (JDM DC2 or DC5) -Nissan Pulsar GTIR -Nissan Skyline R32 GTR (maybe, just because lighter than the R34 ? or the 400R) -Nissan S13 Type X or S15 Spec R (maybe too similar to the S14 ?) -Toyota Celica GT-four -Mazda RX7 FC -Subaru Impreza WRX STI (mutiple versions... 22B, S204...) -Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX -Mazda 323 GTR -.... Probably a lot more i forgot
to be completely honest the AE86 in Initial D wasnt stock to begin with, even in the first stage, the engine was tuned the best it could've been, had a rally gearbox and good suspension so the anime didnt lie, you didnt do your research, best regards :)
this looks HEAVILY inspired by keiichi tsuchiya's best motoring emission without giving a mention :( the battle format, the location... i wish you mentionned him because some people don't know the channel and it's amazing (he does it irl for people who don't know)
This vid was super fun to watch, but one thing to remember is that while AC is an amazing platform for modding, there are loads of crappy mods with subpar physics and performance data. Most of these mods have way more grip, have better brakes or unrealistic suspension geometry. In this vid the NSX-R quoted to have 340-odd hp. Which it would make it 50 more than the car irl.
To be frank it's not a surprise. FD3S has those sweet RPMs that you can rev into oblivion it gives so much room to breath compared to more typical engines and it really is a well balanced car. NSX I feel could perform better at the hands of someone more experienced, MR cars have some serious skill requirement to pull it off. I think they should've swapped cars after the first battle and do another one this way. Would make for a more "objective" result. A fun video.
Yup as a FD enjoyer the nsx should've won Both are very revvy engines btw the rotarys just happen to have peak torque near limiter Idk the power band of the nsx But ik na v6 with vtec it should be the same both are revvy but Mid engine rwd is a bit tricky while front mid engine rx7 is predictable and can be tossed in the corners like nobody's business still They're both of my dream jdm cars cuz of this
More power and stiffer more track oriented suspension of the nsx plays to it's advantage while fd has the boost in straights and handling with the 50/50 weight distribution Both evenly amazingly balanced but technically with better driving nsx has the slight edge
In the 90s my teacher had a brand spanking new GTO and it was aaaawesome. Kinda crazy how fast it was for its time. He drove us home with it once, and we were all just squealing with excitement as he was cutting corners and hammering it on the straights. Real spectacle that car. I'm not the biggest fan of the styling though.
Is it just me or jimmy sent his cars too much, sliding and understeering as a result, compared to more patient but grippy style Nate employed ? Because his driving was SMOOOTH
Having an Evo IX, I wonder how a newer one would have gone since in motortrend's race the IX beat the NSX on track and the evo VII was pretty close. The Evo VI TME may have got a chance to come on top.
Honestly, the AE86, Silvia and MR2 are just cars from a totally different price category. You should have balanced them by tuning. Or just use Celica with race specs, Silvia S15, and the MR2 Spyder techno pro spirit.
Knew it, owning currently a Honda Accord an a Toyota Corolla, I am by no means a Mazda fan. Quite the opposite, hate their built quality in my Job... But I always knew the RX-7 was going to win. I did a lot of testing in these cars on Imola, creating an art-styled leaderboard and whilst the Supra and R34 are extremely close, the RX-7 is miles and shoulder above the other two.
Jimmy, it would be much better if you compared the cars using physics by Arch. His physics are the most realistic and he has made physics for a lot of JDM cars
This was interesting. You could continue it with, for example, all German classics on Nurburgring GP (so it was short enough as Togue) or British on Brands Hatch.
@@opmike343not sure on active/adaptive suspension, but it has capabilities for active awd, active aero, and 4 wheel steering, the first and last ones are even featured on vanilla cars (R34 and 911GT3RS are the main examples coming to mind)

This could be such an awesome series. I'd love to see this again, but with "New/Old" Comparisons and Stuff, R34 v R35, MkIV v MkV, NSX v NSX, AE86 v GR86 would be epic

In all honesty, Jimmy, scientifically the only thing this video proves, besides that you love driving the Touge, is that Nate's better at doing so than you are.

Also, for a moment there at 28:36 if I did not know any better I would have thought you were Scottish, Jimmer...
Wow that 3000GT is pretty cool 😎
It’s fun to see what they look like functioning properly 🤓
The MR2 was cool too
@@kylelanger8611 HEYYYYY

The maths add up, it’s 50% better than a Toyota 2000GT
25:06 only Jimmy can start an actual fire in a simulation game. 😂
really enjoyed this one!
I remember pushing that GTO to over 400 kph with tuning in Gran Turismo back in the day - until it took off on the oval. That car was properly fast.
The video was a great showcase for Assetto Corsa's physics. The squatting of various cars under acceleration was fantastic. Were these mostly Polyphony's models ported across?
Nope these are community made mods
no lol most of these cars either converted from GT or Forza@@mtnmoo
wow this was so freaking COOL jimmer! watching the JDM legends battle it out, fighting tooth and nail to win each round. that finale was spectacular! GG jimmer and nate :)
Can't wait to drive my NA1 again. Made my day on this cold winter day. Thanks a lot. Amazing that RX7 and NSX are the same pace! The NSX is still underpowerd IMO.😅
I thoroughly enjoyed this! Hope to see more!
Having just done a road trip through Japan, the only thing missing from these maps are the constant スピード落とせ (reduce speed) and スピード注意 (watch speed / be careful about your speed) signs. There's only one or two here, but they're everywhere in real life.
Togue is so needed in GT7.
Fr I would be playing for hours and hours
That was a good run. As an owner it's always a pleasure seeing an rx7 win. I have a friend with a mostly stock 97 vr4, and It's quite a pleasure to drive. The weight is there, but the suspension is firm and has minimal body roll so it feels planted and confidence inspiring.
13:49 The Impreza with the ULTRA RARE no hand strat
I would like to have seen R32 GTR vs RX-7 FC to close out the bracket, but this was very entertaining!
Two of the coolest jdms imo
@@Zinul R32 GTR is my dream car (also the 288 GTO, but that's an actual pipe dream).
Currently have a 91' FC turbo 2 and can confirm it's a cool little car, drives like a kart, the weight distribution is beatiful.
that particular r34 AC car is a bit of a handful. i tend to enjoy the default r34 from kunos more but no clue if its faster than this one
Great video, even better t shirt, GGs!
I’m curious to know what would be the results if it was a time trial instead of
I'd love to see you guys do this with a completely different category of cars, maybe American muscle or European hot hatches? It could be a lot of fun!
This is content that we all wanted to see. Something fun and really not as serious to have a break from the real life content wich is far more tense. I really appreciate Jimmy as a content creator letting us watch very diverse types of videos. I would really enjoy if we see something like a mini series of this with more jdm cars or an european edition of the challenge on a european road, maybe an american one idk. Cheers Jimmy, you always deliver
Awesome video, loved this one! Super exciting battles every minute. Would be great to see this with a different selection of cars. Hot hatches, Lamborghini vs Ferrari ect.
Well done! Gotta say I'm impressed, and it's exactly what I needed to see after working on the Spirit R's wiring diagrams all day.
All that said, yes it's still slow 😂😂😂😂😂
Btw, that's in the manga's lore.
Chapter 75 - Page 10/11 - "Maximum horsepower rated at probably about 150 hp."
Chapter 151 - Page 16 - "That's a 240 horsepower high speed unit"
And yeah they do mention that in that episode but he still won lol
I will say tho, I’m glad the end of the 86 was winning a race against another 86.
I would have loved to see an ek9 type R thrown into the mix
Definitely do more of this! I love car comparisons, it tickles the car magazine part of my brain.
So proud of the NSX. No fancy tech, just balance, and a solid engine.
The RX7 looks more controllable though.
The Model they had gave it to much grip. They also had to fix weight and suspension issues. So disregard the Mitsubishi it was a poor model.
I think the 86 tuned or whatever its called in AC is that. It's the fastest car on all these servers
@@pentilex4338 well yeah even if they used that it would already been much higher in place
The ae86 in initial D was never stock... but it was also never fast :P
What a fun use of sim rigs, this was very entertaining!
Absolutely loved this one!! If only the S2k had a snail attatched or even a set of trumpets maybe we'd have an all honda final
nice upload timing of the jdm themed vids, misha dropped an RX-8 lap at the ring, now we need superGT to drop a jdm themed vid today
Also in defense of initial D, the main character never drove a stock 86, pops had him in a sleeper since the start
Format here is brilliant and I think the idea of "which one of the things that were cool is best", kinda resolving the arguments we had as children and teens.
TBH, in Gran Turismo 2, the EVO was definitely "quicker" than the WRX, but the WRX had a higher top speed--it seemed like the EVO was geared to get to 200km/h as quickly as possible and, once you get the handle on the understeer, switching out the transmission turned it into a 290km/h BEAST.
the subtle addition of the This Vs That music when the R34 got resurrected was very appreciated, just thought you should know that.
Add the Celica as well, maybe have it race a Supra in the first round to show the evolution of the car.
why didnt he have it in this video? it says every JDM car but it wasnt
@@JeanPaulConnock
One of your best videos so far Jimmy, that was so cool seeing these JDM legends get put through their paces. Here in NZ we had all these cars (well, versions of them at least); only the NSX was always a rare beast but the others you'd see pretty much daily 20-25 years ago; lower spec versions in most cases obviously but many had been tuned to within an inch of their existences. Crazy how times have changed.
Loved this showdown! What a cool thing to be able to do in sim. Huzzah!
No MX-5 or Civic Type-R? I call shenanigans. :)
As for the cars, the GOAT is a magnificent sporty barge.
as a miata owner imma be honest its not getting a single round
that was a great video. i would like to see something similar done with American muscle.
Absolutely godlike video, please make more of this, maybe with tuned versions of these cars, or something like one-lap battles on Tsukuba with these or racecars. And Nate can stay as well, you two go along like PB and Jelly 😂. Keep it up and 'till the next video.
22:25 perfect pause moment, almost like nothing at all could go wrong from there ^_^
Damn, that R34 Drift angle! Absolutely beautiful! And of course, pure drifter Skill from Jimmer!
Keep up the hard work jimmer, much love from the cold north!
this was one of the best videos you've uploaded lately. nate was great too
honestly, would be pretty awesome to see this sort of thing through various car eras/type, 60s muscle cars, modern grocery getters, etc
13:08 that is such a wasted opportunity of a GT2000 meme xD that and missing the c32, very awesome video. Thanks Jimmy.
Great video Jimmer, had a smoke while watching this and had an absolute blast.Great job by you and Nate.
🤩Next time maybe worth doing the "time attack" thing they where doing before the race ?🤔
And obviously you cannot satisfy everyone but i think it would be interesting to see those car in a round 2 :
-Honda Civic ek9 type R
-Honda Integra type R (JDM DC2 or DC5)
-Nissan Pulsar GTIR
-Nissan Skyline R32 GTR (maybe, just because lighter than the R34 ? or the 400R)
-Nissan S13 Type X or S15 Spec R (maybe too similar to the S14 ?)
-Toyota Celica GT-four
-Mazda RX7 FC
-Subaru Impreza WRX STI (mutiple versions... 22B, S204...)
-Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX
-Mazda 323 GTR
-.... Probably a lot more i forgot
Me a Supra MK3 owner, wondering where the frick my car is 😅
It’s secretly the best one
A rocket ship when tuned but no good for twisty stuff.
@@v4skunk739 I fully agree on that one. Feels like an old 70's US car in corners🤣
Shut up
It was getting smoked by the S14
to be completely honest the AE86 in Initial D wasnt stock to begin with, even in the first stage, the engine was tuned the best it could've been, had a rally gearbox and good suspension
so the anime didnt lie, you didnt do your research, best regards :)
this looks HEAVILY inspired by keiichi tsuchiya's best motoring emission without giving a mention :( the battle format, the location... i wish you mentionned him because some people don't know the channel and it's amazing (he does it irl for people who don't know)
Trust me if they are real jdm fans they def know about that especially if they know KT
He mentioned him in other touge videos, he dosen t have to mention him everytime
Seeing as it's no longer 2013, youtubers aren't obligated to reference the DK every 5 seconds anymore.
That Nate guy is such a clean driver (in comparison!)
11:35 was such a good shot
Do this again at Tsukuba, this video was fun to watch.
Awesome video, I was recently going back through the togue videos! OK. Can we now have a Kei Car version, and an Euro version?
To be frank it's not a surprise. FD3S has those sweet RPMs that you can rev into oblivion it gives so much room to breath compared to more typical engines and it really is a well balanced car. NSX I feel could perform better at the hands of someone more experienced, MR cars have some serious skill requirement to pull it off. I think they should've swapped cars after the first battle and do another one this way. Would make for a more "objective" result. A fun video.
Yup as a FD enjoyer the nsx should've won
Both are very revvy engines btw the rotarys just happen to have peak torque near limiter
Idk the power band of the nsx
But ik na v6 with vtec it should be the same both are revvy but
Mid engine rwd is a bit tricky while front mid engine rx7 is predictable and can be tossed in the corners like nobody's business
still They're both of my dream jdm cars cuz of this
More power and stiffer more track oriented suspension of the nsx plays to it's advantage while fd has the boost in straights and handling with the 50/50 weight distribution
Both evenly amazingly balanced but technically with better driving nsx has the slight edge
That sake woulda been spilt EVERYWHERE lmao. Doin Takumi Fujiwara no justice.
That looks like Fun, two mates having a BLAST that's we all love race games
I think there's a skill issue, Anime would never lie to us
In the 90s my teacher had a brand spanking new GTO and it was aaaawesome.
Best video jimmer, turn this into a series pls!
I really enjoyed this. All of these cars were dream cars while growing up, and they still are!
This was interesting. You could continue it with, for example, all German classics on Nurburgring GP (so it was short enough as Togue) or British on Brands Hatch.
Oh that poor GT-R... When I saw the NSX was its opponent, I was like "Oh this is NOT the track. The NSX is eating good today."
Yesssss jumper posed and en is just the boys 🎉🎉
The GTO had active aerodynamics, four-wheel-steering and adaptive suspension. Maybe it’s in the mod as well?
I don't even think AC can simulate things like active suspension or four wheel steering.
@@opmike343not sure on active/adaptive suspension, but it has capabilities for active awd, active aero, and 4 wheel steering, the first and last ones are even featured on vanilla cars (R34 and 911GT3RS are the main examples coming to mind)
ac alrady can simulator four wheel steering since skyline gtr released@@opmike343
good video
in their stock forms, there wasnt a lot to say about most of them outside of the evo and nsx.
where these cars really shine (especially the trueno) is when they are modded.
you could have included the hated mx5 and r32 to give you the requisite final pairing.
This could be such an awesome series. I'd love to see this again, but with "New/Old" Comparisons and Stuff, R34 v R35, MkIV v MkV, NSX v NSX, AE86 v GR86 would be epic
And just like in Initial D, the RX7 wins against the skyline twice and then wins against the nsx due to a error made by the honda driver!
That first mr2 run was crazyyyy, homie was right on the edge of the road
I really love touge cuz it's a lot more action packed than a regular circuit race, hence why I also love rally the most. Please do more videos of this.
In all honesty, Jimmy, scientifically the only thing this video proves, besides that you love driving the Touge, is that Nate's better at doing so than you are.
The impreza definitely is worse for street use. The Evo is great for street use. However, it lacks when it comes to offroad use. I am happy to see this shown in this video (:
