I think if you chose to be a High Elf race in Skyrim, there should've been another option. Instead of joining the Imperial Legion or the Stormcloak (why a High Elf would join the Stormcloaks is beyond me) you should've been given the option to join the Thalmor
Just seems like a d*ck move to join the Stormcloaks as a High Elf, even moreso if you're in Thalmor robes. But yes, it makes absolutely no sens to be a High Elven stormcloak, unless somehow you don't agree with your elven brethren regarding the thought of a worship of Talos.
***** you're right. I fought for the Stormcloaks cause I thought we were fighting for freedom...I didn't know we were the Thalmors puppet...I didn't know
As much as you'd like to think you are you aren't a puppet a The Thalmor. In the dossier it's stated that a victory on both sides is to be avoided. They want a war to go on. If the Stormcloaks win they have no right to be In Skyrim any longer if The Imperials win they gain morale and overall more support from the Jarls. So no you are not a puppet of the Thalmor when you are a Stormcloak quite the opposite actually
i belive their is a nice mod out their that let's you start the game as a thalmor justiciar, pronounced justic-ee-air-ee, but ther is no quest line for it though, it's live another life
I love how carefully those videos are scripted and written. The guy subtly takes the perspective of each race when telling their history, even those who are genrally less loved by fans, and lets us understand why they act the way they do, immerging us into their strenghs, weaknesses, prejudices and joys. Great!
The Mobslayer I feel like a human was beating him with his caveman club when he did the video about the racist twats who stole the land of Skyrim from the falmer who were there first and then let no outsiders into the land that doesn't actually belong to them... Sorry that slipped out, I meant Nords.
Alex Kerrigan Well, the Falmer let them stay, but then were like "o shiet they having too many babies we gota do sumtin bout it" then proceeded to massacre innocent people.
Don't you love how immersed we get in the world of The Elder Scrolls? This is amazing, truly. I am seeing so many people discuss their race in such a front and forward style, it really is as if they are real. We get so lost because there are SO many tiny details your mind attempts to take into account, that you lose yourself, and forget the real world for a minute or two. I hear and see people arguing that their race is better, the flaws of others, and try to BS their way out of what there races have done much like real life (not saying I reinforce or stand for racism, it us unfortunately a petty problem we do face). But with so much about the races, we truly lose ourselves, and it is beautiful. This is what so many fandoms strive to do and Bethesda GOT IT RIGHT! Hats off to these amazing people, a great job well done, I think I speak for everyone when I say they deserve our respect, it was well earned. Bravo Bethesda, bravo
To Lazy to think Of a clever name I wonder how powerful would be a high Elf and a Nord and a wood elf all mixed together as one gene pool I honestly think he or she would be awesome think about high elf magic and wood elf ability to get animals help and mastery of the bow and Nord strength. that person/mer would be a deadly foe
To Lazy to think Of a clever name I don't care what you all want to think but the Nerevarine, the champion of cyrodiil and the dragonborn were Nords ;)
sadly this is the only evidence one can easily point to to prove that the high elves aren't evil, the main problem is skyrim is many peoples first, and only, elder scrolls game and the way the thalmor talked about by the people, rightfully so, is negative. thank you shoddy cast for being neutral in your lore videos
@@fleabagmonkeyface2320the Nords didn't commit genocide it was a war and they ended up winning. And the for the imperials they won the war with the Ayleids. Cope harder self hating cuck Talos is a god whether you or your elf Toadies like it or not
Michal Valta not all high elves are bad that’s like saying oh your black so I think your good at basket ball u should be a basket ball player cuz you black
@quikgamer But, unlike humans, were racism isn't justified because there is no superior race, racism still isn't justified in Tamriel, but the Altmer have all the rights to feel superior, because they are
There are, Legate Fasendil is an Altmer who serves in the Legion and is stationed in the Rift in Skyrim during the civil war. He speaks of how the Dominion killed many Altmer refugees in Hammerfell, simply because they were in opposition to the Thalmor. Fasendil himself lost family in that incident. Needless to say, he hates the Thalmor with a passion.
They don't agree with their views on the world of mundus, their methods, how the run the government and some even their view on other races. Many high elves are in jail for these disagreements. @@ServusCrux
I agree. At first I played as the High Elf, but when I played through the certain quests that related to the Civil War, the Thalmor shames Tamerial for making the Empire looking like traitors to not only Hammerfell, but also Skyrim.
Bro, what you have done here is monumentally extraordinary, I hope you realize this more than anyone. You've turned the Elder Scrolls into something much more vivid and beautiful. I hope Bethesda watches this series so they can get some insight on what they have achieved, and in return, increase the lore that the Elder Scrolls possesses. Thank you so much ShoddyCast for an adventure you took me into that fulfilled every promise and desire.
There is no superior race in Tamriel. If there was they'd never have lost, yet every race has known the taste of defeat. All races of Tamriel should unite under one banner, so that even the mighty Deadra would have to think twice about taking them on.
I don't hate high elves, i just have a problem with the Thalmor. If they have an issue with Talos, fine that's their right but they do not have a right to force it on others.
***** The main reason I dislike the thalmor is that they wish to eventually eradicate humans so they can get "back" their godhoood. High elves in general as far as I have seen are generally ok.
To all who say how Evil elves are, did any of you consider their situation? They are in a empire under the control of man, the main religion includes the same guy who had nearly genocided the High Elves and their rulers are descended from that same guy. They aren't exactly living the life right now.
Mede dynasty (the ruling family in the empire) isn't descended from Tiber Septim. The Aldmeri dominion isn't part of the empire for about 100 years now. Tiber did not genocided the Altmer. The siege of Summerset lasted a week. And Tiber Septim signed every religious treaty there was. So Argonians can worship the Hist or Sithis, Altmer could worship their ancestor gods, dunmer could worship the tribunal etc. It doesn't mean that Tiber was a good man. He did reach divinity by violence. That says something about the man.
That's a week of killing and destruction. Also, notice how I never said forced to worship the nine divines, just that since it's the main religion, they are going to hear about it constantly. That is basically the equivalent of Jewish people hearing about how great the new god Hitler is. (Though Tiber was better than most dictators)
Tbond96 You said main religion. Which it's not. It's not like Tiber Septim declared himself a god or declared the 8 as the main and only true pantheon in Tamriel. Tiber Septim himself worshipped The One (probably Anu) and established his temple in the imperial city. Empire was more the likes of early Roman Empire, where you could worship a potato if you wanted to and nobody cared. Altmer did not actually care what hero-god humans worshipped (well they started when they figured out that Tiber actually is a god). Cyrodills worshipped Reman and St.Allesia and concidered Pelinal as a saint. Pelinal a saint!? A guy who organized a pogrom of Khajiit, because he thought that they were elves. And it's not like the Altmer religion is so much better. Their Hero-God killed the trickster Lorkhan (which was before Tiber and partially is now ,concidered a Hero-God of Mankind) which lead to the enslavement of the human race under their elven masters . Why? Because humans belong there. No bias there. The empire wasn't never a dictatorship(as in totalitarian state). It was an autocratic pluralistic abosolute monarchy. One person rules with absolute power, but everyone can do whatever they want.
So if it isn't the main religion, than why is it that in EVERY Elder scrolls game, that religion is there yet the religion of the Bosmer, Altmer, Nords are never present in every game? Also Rome, the same empire that fed Christians to lions for being Christians, isn't the best example. I think you are mistaken. I'm not against the empire, I fought with the empire to keep skyrim part of the empire. But it has been a dictatorship at some points as well. Remember in Morrowind, when your first mission as a solider is to get the deed to a house? The opinion of the empire depends on race however, there is no absolute.
Stop thinking like a human and being apologetic. Altmer hate humans. They continuously cry for their lost divinity and blame it on Lorkhan and mankind by association. You can like them but NEVER make excuses for their bigotry.
I really enjoy the elder scrolls lore series i have been playing since morrowind i new a few basics of elder scrolls lore but still next to nothing thank you for creating such an original and wondrous series I think I speak for most people when I say a big thank you to the Shoddy Cast.
Dread Wolf When I found out that the Thalmor wanted to erase man from all reality to become godly beings like the Aldmer, I realized their more of a threat than Alduin and Dagon.
It's a shame the High Elves have a bad rep from a lot of Elder Scrolls players. High elves are proud & wise perfectionists. Dark Elves are FAR worse. They are arrogant, racist slavers.
+Xnoviter Not to mention House Telvanni was the only Dunmer house who refused to join and support the Ebonheart Pact because they saw the Argonians as their inferiors and refused to fight beside them. There is nothing noble about Dunmer society.
pfff~ I was a high elf once and thought every other race was below me.... now I'm a vampire lord and I have an infinite amount of time to hone my skills. Now I think absolutely everyone sucks including elves xD
You omit a lot of facts in this to shed good light on the Altmer. If the Altmer are so high & mighty how come they were totally subjected not once but twice by "childish" men(Talos & Reman)? The Altmeri never dominated humans in the same way humans dominated them. You also forget to mention that the White-Gold Concordat was signed AFTER Emperor Titus Mede II, against all odds, annihilated the entire Aldmeri army stationed in Cyrodiil at the Battle of The Red Ring, that is quite a loss considering he isn't even remotely close to being the greatest human Emperor. And lastly, the (new) Thalmor rose to power by claiming that the Hero of Kvatch & Martin Septim's doings were their own. They didn't claim to have just saved Summerset Isles from the Oblivion Gates, they took credit for the entirety of what Martin Septim did, since no one in the Summerset Isles knew what happened at the end of Oblivion.
Because the Altmer were more confined to trying to find a way to reach divinity again, not concerned with conquest. Then Talos came around and that gave the extremists a voice to start growing and poisoning the Altmer race. The Thalmore and the Dominion established came from those extremists. They quietly killed off most the Altmer that didn't want to be part of such violent nonsense.
Charolete el Bridget Tiber Septim and Zurin Arctus were both Shezzarines, aspects of a basically omnipotent deity. Their whole shtick is saving mankind, so they would have prevailed either way, especially since Tiber Septim knew CHIM (making him more powerful than any other deity, barring Vivec and Lorkhan).
Talos conquered the Summerset Isles using a literal God built by the Dwemer. If he had attempted any other method he would have been curb stomped all the way back to the mainland. The Third Aldmeri Dominion were the successors in the Great War, forcing Titus Mede II to sign the White-Gold Concordat. They defeated the Empire while simultaneously fighting the Redguards of Hammerfell to a stalemate.
Excellent, and in-depth. This series is beautiful, amazing, detailed, and likely the first place I will direct anyone who wishes to know more about the Elder Scrolls games. Thank you for all of your hard work.
ThillerKillerX As do I, however, we live in a society of which shuns those who aren't deemed beautiful enough and praises those of whom can hide their faces under ten pounds of make-up; no hyperbole involved.
ThillerKillerX I think humans are well balanced, not too smart, not to strong, decent lifespans, average at every art, that's why human races are the best
When i only knew a bit of TES V Skyrim i heard people say that the greatest thing about the Lore of the Elder Scrolls is the fact, that there is no good or evil in Tamriel, only different perspectives. Now i think i can glimpse the idea what they are talking about.
Absoulutly amazing series and Award worthy for all the work and GREAT detail you guys put into this.. I typed in "Tamriel Lore" and Boom here you were and perfectly filled my brain with all the Lore of Nurn I sought... Thank you many times over for your efforts in bringing this to us.. Wonderfull done and Excellectly Narrated.. Bravo ! Bravo! *Applauds Profusely*
Have you ever wished there was a quest line in Skyrim for joining the Thalmor, where you wipe out the Blades, help perpetrate the Civil War (which is optional, and deactivates when/if you complete the Civil War quest line), and attempt to take control over the Dragons, and make them fight for the glory of the Aldmeri Dominion? I would assume that the "switch" happens when you are sent to infiltrate the Thalmor Embassy, and if you blow your cover, they try to turn you. Of course, if you decline the turn, the mission plays out as normal.
This explains so much. The Thalmor aren't just oppressive and hegemonic, they are doing what they believed was righteous and best for their culture and the rest of the continent. they're definitely arrogant and elitist, but they try to better themselves and others. this isn't portrayed very well in the games, which just have the thalmor going around acting like antagonists.
High Elves may be a bit snooty and stuck up, but they aren't all that bad. It is the ruling body if the Aldmeri Dominion, the Thalmor, whom is bad. The high elves have always been an enjoyable race in TES and have had some great characters, like Ocato. The Thalmor are a group of wicked individuals who kill their own kind. For example: The Night of Green Fire. If you speak to Legate Fasendel at the Rift Imperial Camp, you can ask him about The Night of Green Fire, THESE are his words: "Back in 42 in was stationed in Hammerfell, on leave in Sentinel, trying to track down refugee family members who were trying to escape persecution in Alinor. Suddenly, an explosion of magic in the refugee quarter. Thalmor mages were attacking Altmer dissidents, who were resisting with magic of their own. I ran with some other legionaries who were stationed there, but the entire quarter was a smoking ruin by the time we got there, everyone was dead, wholesale slaughter. The Dominion, not content with killing dissidents of their own back home, came to Hammerfell to finish the job. We're supposedly at peace now, but I put in to be stationed here to keep an eye on the Thalmor, I have a feeling they're behind this unrest here in Skyrim." Not all Altmer are bad people.
This entire series was nothing short of epic... one heck of a way to blast into Elder Scrolls and get excited about all the power that is built into its history and events. Thank you so much for all your hard work and time creating this series and bringing it to us.
Interesting and informative video, definite thumbs up. Its generally positive tone also makes a nice change from the standard "elves r evul" crowd who've only played Skyrim.
MrSpartanspud It's easy to be biased towards the altmer once you've read into their lore as they are interesting, unique and mysterious. Opinion regarding the altmer has generally been so biased against them, it's nice to see an opinion that paints them in a positive light (all in all, I agree far more with shoddy on this).
Don't get me wrong I don't dislike the High Elves in TES it's the Thalmor who are the annoying ones and unfortunately in Skyrim most High Elves are Thalmor.
MrSpartanspud Agreed, the current Thalmor are nasty, though the original Thalmor were noble: the previous Aldmeri Dominion was founded to protect elven society from other races (unlike the current one that seeks to invade other lands).
MrSpartanspud I would also recommend going back & watching all of the other Race videos. ShoddyCast isn't just "biased" toward the Altmer. It's part of what makes each video entertaining, to bring in the bias for each Race. It's certainly not "well-known". It's just quickly made-up in the minds of the mostly Nord-biased fans of Skyrim here in the comments...similar to the quick-to-judge demeanor of the Stormcloaks in-game.
These are really great. I think it's fantastic that you make you these because they're well covered and decently in depth, and they are super helpful when making roleplays.
Interesting fact. In Oblivion, you can pick up occasional chatter and comments about how it is said that Daedra worship is increasing on Summerset. Given what happened with the Oblivion Crisis, and the rise of the Thalmor to power, it brings some interesting implications...
Being only in the youth of my long Altmer life, I had yet to know the true reason why my people resented the races of man. Now I see. Now I see that those who still live now who witnessed the terrible fall of the Dominion and the breaking of our people had every emotional reason to want retribution for their loved ones. I do not condone their bloody means of righting the wrong of Tiber Septim, but I now see why they did it. I only hope that by the other races learning just as much of our history as you have taught me, we can truly understand each other and end all conflict. Glory to the Dominion, and may it grow ever greater with alliances in the other provinces as opposed to enemies.
You're spot on , Mer over Men Men got us into this big mess and we are tired of this , Sure they conquered all of tamriel , But the only reason they took our land is because of that wretched dwarven machine!
5:46 It can EASILY be arrogance. And, knock on wood (or at least it should be), an "advanced" society knows not to hold itself as superior to others, even if it really is.
Oh man, that was epic! Thanks so much for this series!!! The Elder Scrolls, in my honest opinion, has got the best set of stories out of all games ever! It's so intense and just rich!! Even though I've only got the honor to play Skyrim, I'm in love with the whole TES series! Divines bless you! :D
I really don't know what problem do these guys have. I mean, almost every villain in TES universe was a High Elf: Mannimarco, Camoran Usurper, Mancar Camoran, Thalmor, etc. Seriously, wtf?
I really like the high elves. I think a lot of people hate them because of how they are portrayed in game, which is so ironic to what you said. We're like the dumb children who get our wittle feelings hurt. I like that they actually too into consideration that they live 1000 years. That's a long time, to put it into perspective, it's like an artist of 10 years verses someone of 50 years, one can see the imperfection much easier than someone who has a shorter life span.
Tl2aV so why does it heal you and give you "talos's blessing" or have you never used a shrine before? and as for the "he's just a dragonborn" yeah he is, and if you did your research like me, then you would find out that talos, miraak and the last dragonborn are all reincarnations of lorkhan who (correct me if i'm wrong, which i'm fucking not) is a god. if you don't believe me, finish the game and go to sovngarde. then go and look for shor's throne, surprise surprise he's not there due to the fact that, unless under certain circumstances (miraak and the last dragonborn being in the same timeline) two reincarnations can't usually be in the same place. and shor or "shezzar" as the imperials call him, is their representation of GUESS WHO? lorkhan, so basically not only is talos a god, he's been a god like 4 times already. and the reason the thalmor want talos worship banned, is for two reasons. 1. talos is basically lorkhan reincarnated. good old lorkhan is the devil figure of the elves, as he robbed them of their divinity. so it's basically like someone worshiping satan in real life. 2. if they erase talos, they basically erase lorkhan from the universe, thus removing the mortal plane (cause he tricked the other aedra into making it) and returning all mortals to aetherius. so basically, talos is a god, he's an asshole and the reincarnation of several assholes but he's a god nonetheless.
Tl2aV "lol you're dumb" someone's a bit salty. i should have worded that fucking paragraph correctly, the dragonborn isn't a god, it's a reincarnation of a god.
High elves surely are the best wizards in all of Tamriel but when it comes to spell swords and battle mages Bretons are truly in a class of their own and this is because they embody both might and magic in equal measure and employ both in perfect harmony...
"...Because these elves think themselves better than the other mortal races..." Yeah, because they are! "They're right, they are better." See? The narrator agrees with me!
I think Tamriel would do best under an unbiased Imperial emperor, with a council of representatives from each land. The Imperials seem to typically be the best at getting everyone to cooperate for the common good.
I agree it seems that every other race is yelling at the top of their lungs "We're the best in the world" but the Imperials are like "Hey, guys can't we just clam down and cooperate?"
The Imperials are even worse than the Altmer when it comes to arrogance, and a wish to conquer others. Both they and the Altmer believe themselves to be higher than all the other races, but the Altmer have for the most pary, kept to themselves, while the Imperials have created their own "Manifest Destiny", believing it is their birthright to subjugate and enslave the other races of Tamriel, only to call this coerced submission 'Peace'.
I think Tamriel would do best under the Altmer under the condition that they recognise that the other races have also a right to live and prosper and start to lead instead of enslave. It sounds kinky but I think all the Altmer would need to be truly perfect is a little bit of love. Sadly, Tiber Septim already filled them with hatred.
Why is it that their has to be an Emperor it is like the Imperials are just wanting to be subjugated like with the Ayleids. It is like with out a single master to control them they are at each other throats ready to kill one another maybe the races of Tamriel were meant to be ruled. The person who should rule the empire is whom ever can conquer it.
Nicholas Fincannon I don't think you see how the system here works ( or, should work, at least.) Think of the emperor like a president. They have some powers, yes, but most powers belong only to the council, and the council should make all decisions based on a vote.
It would be awesome if this guy made a video about Akavir and the other continents and it's mysterious inhabitants! Little is know, but it's still really interesting!
Ella C I think not. It would remove the mysteries that plagues it now. Who knows maybe we would be very dissappointed with what we would find out about for example the dwemer.
The next TES game needs to be single-player and take place in Summerset Isle, Valenwood and Elseweyr. It's high time that we returned to elven lands in a main series release... Though that technically includes Solstheim, Solstheim is a recent Dunmer acquisition. Bethesda does best when they feel the need to up the atmosphere in a game. Covering the Third Aldmeri Dominion would also, paradoxically, allow references to the First Era's rebellion against the Ayleids. It would probably be the BEST way to solidly reestablish the reputation of TES after the failure of ESO at launch.
Hmmm...maybe I'll stop killing every Thalmor I see in Skyrim lol, they kind of do have a point. Hell, I think I want to play a High Elf now instead of a Nord I think Elder Scrolls 6 should take place in Summerset Isles so players are exposed to the High Elf's perspective of this war, we could see a lot of people taking the Thalmor's side, which up until now would be unheard of :)
The newest incarnation of the Thalmor literally want to destroy Nirn, so while certainly the plea of the High Elves can be sympathized and agreed with, the organization of zealots who want to destroy the world and become Gods, cannot.
depending on the age you come up with for each character (and they hadn't been killed) - Arena: Doubt it, Daggerfall: Doubt it again, Morrowind: Probably not but maybe, Oblivion: Yes, Skyrim: No shit.
Ethan Admiraal the first four Elder Scrolls games happened within several years, maybe decades at most. The first three games and beginnign of the fourth had the same emperor. Young high elvrs from the first game could still be alive into skyrim
Watched all 18 vids today of this series. Only video I found biased was this one. Still an incredible series and can't wait to watch the second playlist. Good man
armsofundertow98 He makes these videos off of the lore in the actual games. Surprising when the Altmer write about themselves they think they are superior beings. Ikr? shocking..
Nod Lucario Seeing the Lilmothiit, would be awesome. Dwemer though? Who said the Dwemer CAN return? Who said they'd want to. After all, we don't know exactly where they are.
***** we don't... HOWEVER they disappeared via the giant killer dwarf-bot after activating it they went away, however if someone were to activate the machine again...
***** Maybe they'll do what they did in Daggerfall, with the whole time split. Or maybe they just won't ever talk about it, like the events of Morrowind's house wars. Who knows?
Syncretic Views tell that to the aldmeri dominion instead... a full elven race in the dominion...then let the ebony pact have the redguards along side the nords and bretons...
+Ryoji Mochizuki actually many of the dunmer hate about any race that is a outlander you can see that if you play Morrowind or even the Dragonborn DLC thus the insulting term N'wah applies specially to outlanders
some of you know that i posted a comment on the dark elf video about which side to pick. well i'm about done with that playthrough and i'm now about to start a high elf character. and that question's the same, which side do i pick? here's the back story: my character was born on the psijic isle, and was a monk, and after disagreeing with them on a few rules(summoning) he left for summerset. he there get's his wish and is able to study what he wants. yet in time he falls in love with the country, and seeing the maomer's attacks on it he chooses to join the army and fight. we he does really well, and advances in ranks to almost general. he fought in the faction wars, as well as a few others. and because well respected. at this time tiber septim comes along and takes over summerset. in the battles the high elf fought the numidium and of course lost, but he saw the destruction it brought. afterwords he voiced his dislike for the empire and quickly had his rank taken away and was dishonored. years pass and it's the forth era, with hate for the empire in his heart he joins the thalmor, and fights in the great war, in this war the thalmor see his might and power, and see him as a threat, the quickly betray him once the war was over and he's left with a dagger in his back. at this time an imperial healer comes along and helps him with his wounds, having no where to go, the high elf stays with the healer, who is a woman, and fall in love with her. during this time she shows him the good the empire has done for the common folk, and tells him of the lives they've saved. this goes on for 30 years, until the thalmor he's still alive and want to get rid of him again. they find the house, but he is put shopping, only she is there, they rape and kill her. when the high elf gets back he finds the scene and that thalmor who did it, and goes into a rage, summoning power he didn't have in 30 years, he kills then thalmor and after burning her body he leaves, heading north. now he's in skyrim. and he finds out he's dragonborn, and being a servant of akatosh, he follows his destiny. but now he's faced with the choice of the war. he still has hate for the empire, but he wants to respect his love's wishes and see the empire restored. and he has a deep hate for the thalmor. so what side should he choose?
I've watched you guys multiple times, and would like to say that you're awesome. The Elder Scrolls Lore series have helped immensely with my character creations and ideas on playing Skyrim. Thanks and keep up the fantastic work.
Reben then why don't the contact nirn? the daedra are gods and they can contact nirn. the tribunal used the heart, and they became gods, but they remained on nirn.
+Lloyd Zed Hmm, I shall have one of the Battle-Borns inprisoned in Northwatch keep until he cooperates in our attempts to find the heretic that owns this amulet. Thank you for your cooperation.
I love the depth that goes into the lore and history of the different races and cultures Bethesda has put into these games. It is very easy to immerse yourself into a world that feels lived in. Makes my Argonian's struggle against the Aldmeri Dominion and the tension between my Dunmer allies so much more intense.
I don't like the Thalmor. They're bad guys, and people that didn't play previous Elder Scroll games before probably hate the high Elves because of them.
Michael Wright The literal goal of the Thalmor is to destroy Nirn. They are wholly evil, and this fact has been confirmed by MK, who stated that they were the greatest threat to the mortal realm.
"confirmed by MK" not confirmed by Bethesda. Anything not confirmed by Bethesda is not lore. I don't really want the Thalmor to become silly cartoon villains.
Michael Wright Well, I mean, MK was responsible for the reappearance of the Thalmor after helping with KotN and I'm fairly certain he was also the chief contributor in their creation...so there's that. The goal of the Thalmor is the destruction of Nirn. That is a fact. They may have some motivations, albeit shallow ones, for doing it (e.g. becoming like the Ehlnofey once again), but it's still their goal. Anywho, we'll never get to see the Thalmor accomplish their goal anyway. The entire Altmer race gets erased from existence by Anumidium in the Fifth Era during Landfall. But hey, Nirn gets rekt, so they still win in the end.
Hating the Altmer for how they act in Skyrim is like hating all white people because of Bush's performance as president or hating black people because of Obama's performance. A race can't always affect how the leaders act. The Altmer don't hate men they just see them as immature. And if you look into the lore, Talos seems a lot like Lorkhan the trickster to the Altmer.
I totally agree, but it can also be agreed that the many races who employed slaves... let's just say the number of assholes who were willing to torture, murder and abuse slaves was ALLOT higher then the number of people who didn't commit such.... horrible acts. And this goes for pretty much any race that did this. You cannot blame the entire race, but you can blame the High elves arrogance and the fact that most of them don't give a shit for lowers.. Don't punish them all, but...
***** That's true. But so are the Nords and the Dunmer. The difference is, that the Thalmor are the only high elves acting on this racism in a disgusting way. Think of the Thalmor as the KKK.
It's all just the Thalmor giving Skyrim n00bs a bad impression of Altmer. There are plenty despicable individuals of every Race, in-game & in the Lore. ...and people choose to hate on an entire race for the actions of a minority organization... Who's racist now? :3
^The entire Race? :3 I think not. Besides, try when the Thalmor originally formed in the 2nd Era (they certainly weren't racist then...most Altmer living in the Isles just had an isolationist mindset)
^Sorry, but the ShoddyCast Lore videos aren't known to be accurate. If you really want to know about Lore, visit sites like UESP & The Imperial Library, The ShoddyCast videos for all Races are mostly bias (embellishment, inaccuracy, and monkey-truth in general). Not to mention that some of the information is taken directly from the Pocket Guide to the Empire, which is known to be Imperial propaganda instead of actual Lore.
All the people saying this is propaganda/fanboy over-praise are willfully ignorant, and obviously went into this video with the mindset of hearing what they wanted to hear.
Ozymandias916 Not really. The whole argument in this video was that the Altmer are superior because of their long lifespans and magical prowess. If that were true, the Daedra would be godlike, and yet that only really applies to the Daedric Princes. Thus, many believe the Altmer are still simply arrogant for no reason, and it's kind of true. After all, the races of men have Shezzarrines, Dragonborn heroes, and the HoonDing, so it kind of seems likely they're simply superior despite their short lifespans.
Harry Stubes Personally, I felt like the video was done more from the perspective of the Altmer themselves, rather than the person(s) making the video, to help get a glimpse into why they are the way they are, including outlook and attitudes towards "lesser" races.
Ozymandias916 That's certainly true and from a design standpoint, it's also extremely interesting. While I do hold firm in my belief that the Altmer are certainly proud and wrongfully so (at least somewhat), I do see where you're coming from.
+Harry Stubes How are they not superior? Longer life span = Higher mastery of skills. Better Magic. Since magic is the strongest skill one can possess because it can pretty much do anything. Pretty sure all the races have their "chosen one's" not just Red guard's. Any race can be DB not just men.
My Altmer character has been greatly influenced by Prince Nuada from Hellboy Universe, who refused to fade quietly into the night but to see his people be glorious again. Spellsword of peerless skill, honed by decades of experience. He believes Talos achieving Godhood is ridiculous assumption and supports Thalmor in their hunt for Talos worshippers. He does have some doubts about the Thalmor's methods however (lying about Oblivion Crisis, tricking Khajit, Purge of Valenwood...)
iammadness I know but he is awesome!! The last warrior of his people and a symbol of defiance against humanity's destruction of nature! He died and the world is poorer for it.
I think the thalmore and Nuada made a common mistake: They used methods far beneath them. The one thing that the Altmer lack is compassion. I think the Altmer are what you get when you take the Elves from Lord of the rings and replace their tenderness with even more pride.
So no you are not a puppet of the Thalmor when you are a Stormcloak quite the opposite actually
i belive their is a nice mod out their that let's you start the game as a thalmor justiciar, pronounced justic-ee-air-ee, but ther is no quest line for it though, it's live another life
Enric Tellez makes sense
I love how carefully those videos are scripted and written. The guy subtly takes the perspective of each race when telling their history, even those who are genrally less loved by fans, and lets us understand why they act the way they do, immerging us into their strenghs, weaknesses, prejudices and joys. Great!
I feel like a High Elf was holding a dagger to this guys neck when he wrote this script
The Mobslayer The massacring didn't begin until after attempts to drive out the Nords and then their retaliation.
***** This is exactly why! Just murder a ton of other people! So what? The Nords are awesome!
Alex Kerrigan Falmer drew the first blood as a result of their paranoia and xenophobia.. They only have themselves to blame..

Ok anime pfp
Just watched all the episodes of season one back to back. And you sir, are worthy of applause and praise. Thank you for a grand time :)
I don't doubt there's a lot of High Elves that hate the Aldmeri Dominion.
Also the Psijic order are opposed to them, if you've played the quest in the college of winterhold I know you would understand.
Why would they hate them?
They don't agree with their views on the world of mundus, their methods, how the run the government and some even their view on other races. Many high elves are in jail for these disagreements. @@ServusCrux
If it weren't for the Thalmor being so butthurt about Talos, the High Elves would be my favorite race.
Mine too. They're just so butthurt over Talos.
Spirit of Socialism Still, religious freedom's a pretty big deal.
I'm aware of that. I played Skyrim and part of Oblivion, and I was a High Elf both times. I even joined the Stormcloaks as an Altmer.
I agree. At first I played as the High Elf, but when I played through the certain quests that related to the Civil War, the Thalmor shames Tamerial for making the Empire looking like traitors to not only Hammerfell, but also Skyrim.
I used to like talos but then I realized the thalmor were right.

The khajiit are cool but not sane, they love druggs. which is probably they are seen as cat people.
There is no superior race in Tamriel. If there was they'd never have lost, yet every race has known the taste of defeat. All races of Tamriel should unite under one banner, so that even the mighty Deadra would have to think twice about taking them on.
It's not that easy.
I never said it'd be easy, but doing the right thing is rarely easy.
Violence is not strength and compassion is not weakness.
Elder Scrolls 6 Alinor
Id rather eat my shoes. They could set it there and id still play as a Khajiit or Redguard.
I would rather play in frozen, uninhabited Atmora.
I hope it'll be The Elder Scrolls 6: Aldmeri Dominion. It'll be Summerset Isle Valenwood and Elsweyr it would be EPIC!
Visgoth I know! I really hope they do that! I want to see my favorite place Summerser Isle!
Nah. 6, as man's number should be hammerfell and 7, as the number of perfection, should center around The High Elves and their Domian.
Damn I hope in the next elder scrolls game the psijic order comes back to crush the Thalmor!
+Dread Wolf because it wasn't just another quest, they uncovered the Eye of Magnus. If the Thalmor got hold of that, it'd be bye bye Tamriel.
Dread Wolf When I found out that the Thalmor wanted to erase man from all reality to become godly beings like the Aldmer, I realized their more of a threat than Alduin and Dagon.
seriously doint dragon born will be in TES 6

It's a shame the High Elves have a bad rep from a lot of Elder Scrolls players.
High elves are proud & wise perfectionists.
Dark Elves are FAR worse.
They are arrogant, racist slavers.
+SonyaPwnsAll they put the entire argonian race into slavery
+Xnoviter Not to mention House Telvanni was the only Dunmer house who refused to join and support the Ebonheart Pact because they saw the Argonians as their inferiors and refused to fight beside them. There is nothing noble about Dunmer society.
+Bo Banesz are you talking to me or SonyaPwnsAll? or both...
+Xnoviter I was piggybacking on what you said so both I guess.
+Bo Banesz kewl
pfff~ I was a high elf once and thought every other race was below me.... now I'm a vampire lord and I have an infinite amount of time to hone my skills.
I'm so very sorry. My words are putrid filth. I'm so very sorry for infecting you with them.

Crying tears of joy over having found this series
Have you ever wished there was a quest line in Skyrim for joining the Thalmor, where you wipe out the Blades, help perpetrate the Civil War (which is optional, and deactivates when/if you complete the Civil War quest line), and attempt to take control over the Dragons, and make them fight for the glory of the Aldmeri Dominion? I would assume that the "switch" happens when you are sent to infiltrate the Thalmor Embassy, and if you blow your cover, they try to turn you. Of course, if you decline the turn, the mission plays out as normal.
That would be awesome!
Give that man a cookie, tell Obama to fund this new project
AlphaArgonian Penitus Oculatus pathetic though
@AlphaArgonian why the fuck would a high elf join the stormcloaks?
Best serie on RUclips. Always come back to watch again....
Redguards and High Elves are my 2 favorite races
High Elves may be a bit snooty and stuck up, but they aren't all that bad. It is the ruling body if the Aldmeri Dominion, the Thalmor, whom is bad. The high elves have always been an enjoyable race in TES and have had some great characters, like Ocato. The Thalmor are a group of wicked individuals who kill their own kind. For example: The Night of Green Fire. If you speak to Legate Fasendel at the Rift Imperial Camp, you can ask him about The Night of Green Fire, THESE are his words:
"Back in 42 in was stationed in Hammerfell, on leave in Sentinel, trying to track down refugee family members who were trying to escape persecution in Alinor. We're supposedly at peace now, but I put in to be stationed here to keep an eye on the Thalmor, I have a feeling they're behind this unrest here in Skyrim."
Not all Altmer are bad people.

While I do like the vid it is well known that the shoddy cast are biased towards the Thalmor. And more specifically the High Elves.
"They're right. They are better." LOL
Bethesda missed a big opportunity with not involving the Aldmeri dominion much more in Skyrim.
Yeah and with all the remastered versions they should have added a new guest involving the thalmor
You're spot on , Mer over Men

Hint: Success breeds jealousy
Empire_Ants that is the truth
Empire_Ants you mean the guys who are jealous of talos becoming the 9th god?
yeah, he kinda is. what happens when you pray to a talos shrine? you get restored. point blank.
Tl2aV
so why does it heal you and give you "talos's blessing" or have you never used a shrine before? and as for the "he's just a dragonborn"
yeah he is, and if you did your research like me, then you would find out that talos, miraak and the last dragonborn are all reincarnations of lorkhan who (correct me if i'm wrong, which i'm fucking not) is a god. if you don't believe me, finish the game and go to sovngarde. then go and look for shor's throne, surprise surprise he's not there due to the fact that, unless under certain circumstances (miraak and the last dragonborn being in the same timeline) two reincarnations can't usually be in the same place. and shor or "shezzar" as the imperials call him, is their representation of GUESS WHO? lorkhan, so basically not only is talos a god, he's been a god like 4 times already. and the reason the thalmor want talos worship banned, is for two reasons. 1. talos is basically lorkhan reincarnated. good old lorkhan is the devil figure of the elves, as he robbed them of their divinity. so it's basically like someone worshiping satan in real life. 2. if they erase talos, they basically erase lorkhan from the universe, thus removing the mortal plane (cause he tricked the other aedra into making it) and returning all mortals to aetherius. so basically, talos is a god, he's an asshole and the reincarnation of several assholes but he's a god nonetheless.
Tl2aV
"lol you're dumb" someone's a bit salty. i should have worded that fucking paragraph correctly, the dragonborn isn't a god, it's a reincarnation of a god.
AWESOME fuckin' series, man. We're STILL listening to it.
High elves surely are the best wizards in all of Tamriel but when it comes to spell swords and battle mages Bretons are truly in a class of their own and this is because they embody both might and magic in equal measure and employ both in perfect harmony...

Well wood elves are pretty awesome
orcs for life!!! your not welcome to our strongholds
Dimitri L Admittedly, orcs do have a very interesting story as well.
This series should be more famous than it is. It's so in depth and well made.
Agreed! Do it, ShoddyCast . Pwease :3
Or just Beth make a game in the mythic era with akavir and aldmeris and admora. I would die for that
Ella C I think not. It would remove the mysteries that plagues it now. Who knows maybe we would be very dissappointed with what we would find out about for example the dwemer.
wu1ming9shi They may include something perhaps in the last game. Just conjecture :P
Bretons are still the best race. They have the best of both worlds, Nordic strength combined with High Elve Intellect.
Ah my fellow breton brothers
Aaron but mammoth cat and house cat spy
They ugly though
If only they weren't so greedy
Aaron But Bretons are milkdrinkers...ps they do not have Nordic strength
Hmmm...maybe I'll stop killing every Thalmor I see in Skyrim lol, they kind of do have a point. Hell, I think I want to play a High Elf now instead of a Nord
I think Elder Scrolls 6 should take place in Summerset Isles so players are exposed to the High Elf's perspective of this war, we could see a lot of people taking the Thalmor's side, which up until now would be unheard of :)
I love the altmer but hate the thalmor, as the thalmor are only a small splinter group of them.
Welcome to the dominion friend!
***** agreed
The newest incarnation of the Thalmor literally want to destroy Nirn, so while certainly the plea of the High Elves can be sympathized and agreed with, the organization of zealots who want to destroy the world and become Gods, cannot.
***** Heimskr shouts filthy Nord Propaganda, the truth is beyond what he could make up.
If u picked a high elf for every one of the elderscroll games wouldn't they all be alive to day?
depending on the age you come up with for each character (and they hadn't been killed) - Arena: Doubt it, Daggerfall: Doubt it again, Morrowind: Probably not but maybe, Oblivion: Yes, Skyrim: No shit.
Ethan Admiraal the first four Elder Scrolls games happened within several years, maybe decades at most. The first three games and beginnign of the fourth had the same emperor. Young high elvrs from the first game could still be alive into skyrim
Considering ES 1-4 took place within the span of half a century, I'd say yes.
@@Mare_Manisn't the 4th era 4000 years?
Altmer are one of my favorite races. They're culture is so awesome. Hell they might even by my favorite race, but I haven't decided on that yet.
Ikr? shocking..
All I want to see is the return of the dwemer in the next tes
The Lilmothiit would be nice, too
Nod Lucario
Seeing the Lilmothiit, would be awesome. Dwemer though? Who said the Dwemer CAN return? Who said they'd want to. After all, we don't know exactly where they are.
***** we don't... HOWEVER they disappeared via the giant killer dwarf-bot after activating it they went away, however if someone were to activate the machine again...
Thundercloud 2000
That's an awful idea! Remember when they re-activated it in Daggerfall? IT KILLS THE PROTAGONIST!
*****
Maybe they'll do what they did in Daggerfall, with the whole time split. Or maybe they just won't ever talk about it, like the events of Morrowind's house wars. Who knows?
If the Thalmor had any brains they would recruit the Dark Elves too.
Syncretic Views tell that to the aldmeri dominion instead... a full elven race in the dominion...then let the ebony pact have the redguards along side the nords and bretons...
Don't the Dunmer hate the High Elves?
+Donnie Conner no high elves hate the dark
+Syncretic Views That would be a good idea, but there is a problem with that idea. Altmer and Dunmer hate each other.
+Ryoji Mochizuki actually many of the dunmer hate about any race that is a outlander you can see that if you play Morrowind or even the Dragonborn DLC thus the insulting term N'wah applies specially to outlanders
I hope in the future elder scrolls we get to take over as the aldermeri diminion
Wow, I never knew the high elves were this important in creating Tamriel! Awesome!
some of you know that i posted a comment on the dark elf video about which side to pick. well i'm about done with that playthrough and i'm now about to start a high elf character. and that question's the same, which side do i pick?
here's the back story: my character was born on the psijic isle, and was a monk, and after disagreeing with them on a few rules(summoning) he left for summerset. he there get's his wish and is able to study what he wants. yet in time he falls in love with the country, and seeing the maomer's attacks on it he chooses to join the army and fight. we he does really well, and advances in ranks to almost general. he fought in the faction wars, as well as a few others. and because well respected.
at this time tiber septim comes along and takes over summerset. in the battles the high elf fought the numidium and of course lost, but he saw the destruction it brought. afterwords he voiced his dislike for the empire and quickly had his rank taken away and was dishonored.
years pass and it's the forth era, with hate for the empire in his heart he joins the thalmor, and fights in the great war, in this war the thalmor see his might and power, and see him as a threat, the quickly betray him once the war was over and he's left with a dagger in his back.
at this time an imperial healer comes along and helps him with his wounds, having no where to go, the high elf stays with the healer, who is a woman, and fall in love with her. during this time she shows him the good the empire has done for the common folk, and tells him of the lives they've saved.
this goes on for 30 years, until the thalmor he's still alive and want to get rid of him again. they find the house, but he is put shopping, only she is there, they rape and kill her. when the high elf gets back he finds the scene and that thalmor who did it, and goes into a rage, summoning power he didn't have in 30 years, he kills then thalmor and after burning her body he leaves, heading north.
now he's in skyrim. and he finds out he's dragonborn, and being a servant of akatosh, he follows his destiny. but now he's faced with the choice of the war. he still has hate for the empire, but he wants to respect his love's wishes and see the empire restored. and he has a deep hate for the thalmor. so what side should he choose?
Long live the Altmer!
Tonberry Queen well they do live a long life
Much longer than the race of men
I think the Summerset Isles should be the next location for TES. Should be called
The Elder Scrolls 6: High Born
+StarKeyStudios That would never happen. Ever since the Oblivion Crisis, the other races of Tamriel are banned from entering Alinor.
+Nazim zanim It could be in a time earlier than the oblivion crisis
i see hammerfell as the most possible location with the aftermath of the great war and all that.
+StarKeyStudios VALENWOOD VALENWOOD VALENWOOD VALENWOOD!!!!
I've watched you guys multiple times, and would like to say that you're awesome. The Elder Scrolls Lore series have helped immensely with my character creations and ideas on playing Skyrim. Thanks and keep up the fantastic work.
dwarves are still the smartest race
Dwemer > all.
Yeah but they are imo the most asshole race among elves
nope, they used the heart of lorkhan to become gods but it failed and erased them from time.
Giggles the clown we don't know actually. it is possible that they became gods too
Reben
then why don't the contact nirn? the daedra are gods and they can contact nirn. the tribunal used the heart, and they became gods, but they remained on nirn.
Proud to be an Altmer :)
ALTMER!!!
FUCK YEAH!!!
+Lloyd Zed I get so annoyed when people see a high elf and go: "ew, thalmor." not all altmer are thalmor.
+Lloyd Zed You Dunmer are respectable, you are related to us Altmer after all.
+Lloyd Zed Hmm, I shall have one of the Battle-Borns inprisoned in Northwatch keep until he cooperates in our attempts to find the heretic that owns this amulet. Thank you for your cooperation.
Preserve the purity of the superior Aldmeri race.
These were amazing! I will defo watch more TES Lore :)
I love the depth that goes into the lore and history of the different races and cultures Bethesda has put into these games. It is very easy to immerse yourself into a world that feels lived in. Makes my Argonian's struggle against the Aldmeri Dominion and the tension between my Dunmer allies so much more intense.
In ESO I play a high elf and just constantly slag people off for being less superior. Altmer superior race!!
Love the Series...
Whats the name of the music played after the Intro?
Even after all those years its still my favourite video about the high elves.
I'm speechless. This was absolutely riveting. I finally understand this game. Thank you so much.
BILBO BAGGINS!! DO NOT TAKE ME FOR SOME CONJURER OF CHEAP TRICKS!
There is a mod for Skyrim that add an opon to join the Thalmor
Am I the only one that kinda agrees with the thalmor cause?
Whoa! Here I am completely glued to this channel and then you drop the Fallout bomb on me...guess I better get comfortable.
Sure, high elves are good with magic, but I watched a snow elf blow up half a temple.
Theres no shame in choosing to be high elf but you lot arent ready for that conversation
Altmer and Proud
I don't like the Thalmor. They're bad guys, and people that didn't play previous Elder Scroll games before probably hate the high Elves because of them.
Thalmor aren't more of a "bad guy" than anyone else is.
Michael Wright Their lore has Nazi connotations.
Gee I wonder which race ShoddyCast plays in Elder Scrolls. lol.
KingLink95 every race's story is told from their prospective.
Accept for the dark elves
KingLink95 Your political compass makes me want to vomit
I'm guessing the Aldmer are based on ancient Ellada and the empire of Talos is based on the Roman empire.
No
Hating the Altmer for how they act in Skyrim is like hating all white people because of Bush's performance as president or hating black people because of Obama's performance.
I think not.
Besides, try when the Thalmor originally formed in the 2nd Era (they certainly weren't racist then...most Altmer living in the Isles just had an isolationist mindset)
^Sorry, but the ShoddyCast Lore videos aren't known to be accurate.
If you really want to know about Lore, visit sites like UESP & The Imperial Library,
The ShoddyCast videos for all Races are mostly bias (embellishment, inaccuracy, and monkey-truth in general).
Not to mention that some of the information is taken directly from the Pocket Guide to the Empire, which is known to be Imperial propaganda instead of actual Lore.
This is GOLD for my Dungeons and Dragons campaign. Thank you very much!
Harry Stubes
Oh, I agree that they're arrogant jerks, definitely.
+Harry Stubes
How are they not superior?
He died at the end of the movie you know.
iammadness I know but he is awesome!! The last warrior of his people and a symbol of defiance against humanity's destruction of nature! He died and the world is poorer for it.
I think the thalmore and Nuada made a common mistake: They used methods far beneath them. The one thing that the Altmer lack is compassion.
I think the Altmer are what you get when you take the Elves from Lord of the rings and replace their tenderness with even more pride.
johnmin93 His problem was he became fanatic and let his resentment and pride overtake him. Now his people are extinct because of him.
Prince Nuada is awesome but I did a high elf on Prince Nomak from Blade II.
That´s why the Altmer are my favourite Race. PS: The Dominion Rules!
All hale the Aldmeri Dominion 🙇♂️
@@joyfulldarkness1717 *hail
U have nerdneck
Altmer Master Race! For Thalmor!
Does anyone watch this because it's soothing and relaxing I still watch shoddy cast after a hard day at school and now work
