We were just talking about this in my guild! I'm personally of the opinion that Lady Vashj and the Coilscar Naga serve Illidan on the orders of Queen Azshara. She's shown herself to be clever, Vashj is famously loyal to her, and she had an interest in seeking revenge on the Burning Legion and Sargeras for failing her and condemning her to Nzoth's service. Just as she played us off against Nzoth, I think she was playing Illidan off against the Legion and the other powers that might oppose her in the future. If that is the case it would mean that Azshara's done more to protect Azeroth and save the cosmos than most other lore characters, all for her own glorification. The fact that the Coilscar loyally serve the Illidari and maintain the fortress on Mardum, even after Illidan's defeat, implies that they were committed to the Legion's downfall. Besides, most Old God followers are fanatically and self-destructively loyal to their masters. The Naga have always seemed more independent and enigmatic.
Naga`s sad lore is pretty good, specially of Azshara, but then i remember how terrible Azjatar is if you dont have flying.... Jeez, that multi-layout map makes me sick

Quick idea maybe for a series. I recently found a couple on RUclips reacting to wow Cinematics. Titled something like “non wow players reacting to Bfa cinematic”. It was great. One thing blizzard does well are those cinematics. They watched the ones with Sylvanus calls the horde nothing and then the other where she went and destroyed the LK. And the chat blows up telling them to watch wotlk one for the story being it’s one of the most famous stories. And you can tell especially the chick is into the story. Got me thinking how cool it would be if there was a series of videos about wow lore that was designed for non wow players. Almost Something you would send a friend to entice them to play. “Hey we have stories like this”. A video that’s intended for someone who’s never played or heard of Sylvanus or thrall. Just an idea. Just an idea.
Personal head canon, Vashj is her name, but the devs fked up by making it seem like its was her family name in Cataclysm. Illidan never called Kael or Arthas by Sunstrider or Menethil, but constantly kept calling her Vashj, even without the "Lady".
So damn sad about the Burning crusade lore, all 3 they seemed like such a good team, but they all fell into madness for plot reasons, I'm still disappointed of the few content that Vashj has, I have a slight hope that this would change in Shadowlands

It makes perfect sense that she keeps being loyal to Illidan, and that the Old Gods would want her to be. Illidan wants to destroy the Burning Legion, who was created to destroy everything resembling the Void. Why not bolster the ranks of someone wanting to destroy the ones who want to destroy you?

Actually a very tragic story. Thinking of how much she sacrificed to get that ship with Illidan (very similar to himself and Tyrande) just to get killed. Although i have to admit Illidan and Maiev play better of one another.
Hope, Vashj be in the Shadowland since all the spirit of the dead resided that dimension. So, it make sense that she is over there as well. But time will tell.

They kinda have the same back story as gnomes and dwarves with being Titan constructs who through curse of flesh were cursed with flesh and able to be ccorrupted a lot easier.

Maybe I can give you a bit of an explanation/overview regarding what exactly is going on there: 1.) Trolls mutated into Night Elves when they absorbed over time the powers of the Well of Eternity (Magic Wells have always shaped their race) 2.) Highborne were the upper class of Night Elves that "split" from what we now know as Night Elves (Source of Power: Well of Eternity) 3.) Aszhara's Highborne became Naga 4.) The Nightborne were Highborne that walled themselves off, didn't become Naga, but mutated through the Nightwell 5.) High Elves are Highborne that mutated through the Sunwell after they defied Aszhara (and the Burning Legion) and were exiled into the Eastern Kingdoms 6.) Blood Elves are High Elves that got corrupted after they blew up the Sunwell because of their hunger for magic (they nourished themselves with any type of magic until the Sunwell was restored) So Highborne are simply Night Elves from the upper class of Night Elf society and High Elves are a mutated form of Night Elves. Aszhara and her follower were always Night Elves (they were just the elitist bunch), but the Highborne Night Elves that defied Aszhara turned into Nightborne (Nighwell) or High Elves (Sunwell). I assume the similar names confused you a bit?

Because for most of the time Illidans goals where helpful towards the Legion, and only turned on them when he failed.
