Yes, definitely one of their softer songs. For a different side of Opeth I suggest Bleak, Deliverance, The drapary falls or Hessian peel.

Oh my friend... Opeth is pure greatness. Do you want some heavy stuff? Start with Ghost of Perdition.

Man, you will love old Opeth and new. THE DRAPERY FALLS - DEMON OF THE FALL - SERENITY PAINTED DEATH. I could go on and on. MORE OPETH PLEASE

    This the edited version.
If you want Metallic Opeth, listen to almost ANYTHING else. You chose one of their softer songs.
If you want heavy and hard, listen to Hessian Peel. Coil/Heir Apparent, The Grand Conjuration, Requiem/ Harlequin Forest, Blackwater Park, Bleak, The Drapery Falls,, The Funeral Portrait. So much greatness to choose from.

They can go proggy, they can go mellow, and they can go all out death metal.
Depends on the album and the song.

Dude I’m soooo here for this Opeth rabbit hole. This is the song first time listeners should always listen to first. Seeing your reaction to this literally made me tear up. Huge smile on my face. At a moment it looked like you were getting emotional at that 2nd playback at the keyboard solo. This band is why I now play Guitar & Keyboard. I’ve played piano growing up so it came natural to learn these songs. This is this first song I learned how to play when I finally switched to a Keyboard from a Piano

Opeth is one of my favorite bands, specially the Martin Lopez era. Your reaction reminds me of seeing people who became Opeth fans with Damnation at shows, and seeing their face melt when the growls came in 😆

    🔥🔥❤Opeth❤🔥🔥
Opeth does it all. They have done very heavy songs as well. Please, try Heir/Apparent, Ghost of Perdition, Harlequin Forest, Deliverance, Serenity Painted Death, The Moor, and more.
Opeth = automatic sub. Can't wait for more!!
Mikåel Åkerfeldt growls also, plus he's the composer, & so much more.

There is a live recording of Cusp of Eternity and Heir Apparent together ("Garden of The Titans" concert DVD). You'll get the gist of Opeth. Then you might get to the really popular songs and appreciate them even more :)

If you want your face ripped off in the old Opeth way, check out their tune The Grand Conjuration. This same vocalist has gutteral vocals that Tatiana of Jinjer emulates. She worships him.

Opeth was 1 of my 1st bands introducing me to proper metal, along with Lamb of God, Machine Head, and others. I love how they can basically express emotion through song, and no 2 albums are the same, no 2 songs are the same. Even the albums Damnation and Deliverance were dropped the same year, where Damnation was all light metal rock, and Deliverance was some brutal metal. About 10 years ago, Opeth went straight rock metal, so nowadays they put out stuff that sounds like sounds like Deep Purple meets Rush. And I still love it, although a lot of people only prefer their early prog death sound that I've heard referred to as stoner metal. Totally recommend checking their entire catalog, you may find something you like. And you might even hear me yelling on their Garden of Titans: Live at Red Rocks if you check that awesome concert out. It is a good mix of their old and new hits.🤘

    4:50 - That's what she said...
Also be sure to check out their heavy stuff. Opeth - Serenity Painted Death is great along with all the other titles that people are mentioning :>

      Absolutely!
I'm on the side that loves all Opeth, from their early stuff to the more modern and of course going through their Steven Wilson years.
They can keep changing their sound, I'll still probably love it.
      Cheers from France! 🍻

I love this song. It might honestly be my favorite Opeth song. A part of me wish your first one would've been "Hessian Peel". You would've questioned if they're a metal band in that aswell probably. For starters anyway. Dang, that is also a banger.

from My arms your hearse to Watershed (yes including damnation) - Prog death metal sound with a lot of ballads.
current era, Heritage onwards - prog rock stuff, inspired by Deep Purple, Pink floyd ect, 0 Growling. (okay 1 small growl on Dignity)

Hahaha, fun reaction. When you do 'Windowpane' you will be uplifted and surprised again......and if you do at least the intro of.... uhh for instance 'Master's Apprentice' right after that you will be surprised even more by the awesome difference, the contradiction and intention. It would be fun, to see you think, and think again. That's for sure. Succes either way you go.

Opeth have different styles and listening to a song by them is many times like listening to several songs in one song.
I am usually not a huge fan of live versions but these two are great both live at The Red rocks amphietheatre.
    Ghost of perdition ruclips.net/video/BAlDEcQMLio/видео.html&ab_channel=Opeth
    Sorceress ruclips.net/video/8Fc0pbZxlo8/видео.html&ab_channel=Opeth

I'm actually very much in the same boat as you: I've hard a lot about Opeth, seen them everywhere, but never heard them. So this did take me by surprise! But yeah, I'm seeing in the comments here it's one of their softer songs, so that makes sense.
    Get well soon, man!
Edit: Also, Swedish band! You'll find that Scandinavia(and Finland) has a ridiculous amount of good and famous metal bands.
