You're a breath of fresh air. Man, the worst thing you can do is say your opinion may be "controversial"; opinions are not controversial, they're just opinions. The toxic culture of gaming and our social media obsessed society in general wants to make us feel bad for expressing our opinions if they are not "popular", like somehow it's lame to love a game that "everyone" hates. I love a lot of unpopular games and I'd never for a moment feel embarrassed about that. I think Fallout 4 is the best of the entire Fallout franchise and I think Starfield is even better than Fallout 4, and I couldn't give a flying rat's ass if anyone agrees with me on that or not. Just checked my stats and I have played Starfield for a collective amount of 11 days and 13 hours (277hrs) and been having a blast. Did all of the main and faction quests, did most if not all of the side content, made some cool ships and outposts, I even NG+ a couple of times. Now with that being said, how is anyone able to play a game for 500 hours or more and still not like it? I understand not feeling it within the first 2-5 hours and put it down but to trudge through a game that you don't even like for that long is crazy! Thank you for making this video bc this game gets such a bad rep and it’s the reason I didn’t play it for such a long time. I’m a nerd who’s obsessed with astronomy and I was excited to check this game out. But when I finally got my Xbox Series X and I heard all the bad reviews, I decided not even bother. Then one day while another game was updating, I saw I had some extra space, so I said what the hell. The best decision I’ve made this year. I absolutely LOVE this game. I’ve had it for maybe 3 weeks and I’ve put it over 55 hours. It’s football season and I rather play this game than watch football. I abandon my own family during football season, and now I rather play Starfield. Just to give people perspective lol. So that’s why I can’t understand for the life of me some of the complaints this game has received. How can people say there’s nothing to do lmaoooo. There is nothing BUT things to do. You can’t even finish a mission without stumbling into 2 other missions you can do later. Love the customization. Love the variety of missions so you can mix it up. The details and lore are impeccable as well. Is the game perfect?? No. But the potential for this game is endless. They have built the foundation to add on to this game for years to come. 1000 worlds they can continue to build onto???? Can’t wait to see what more they come up with #TeamStarfield

Like enemies will call for reinforcements more often - and you'll also stumble across far more battles between factions. I even saw it may have regular POIs suddenly get invaded by opposing factions as well so you aren't the ONLY guy in the galaxy trying to loot a place and it makes it feel more alive. The POI system was simply not filled out enough. It was almost like they created a base for modders to create masterpieces with. However, it's taken a long ass time to start arriving at more content like this that I wish we could have just had from launch!

Upon release, I thought the game was meh. I rushed through the whole game to see this "New Game+". I didn't spend enough time anywhere to appreciate aspects of the game, and I let the internets opinion of this game ruin my own.. But...
I'm currently 200 hours into my second playthrough, and I feel so incredibly immersed in this game and have not grown tired of it. Incredible story lines and characters, a well thought out universe, and some INCREDIBLY beautiful planets if you are willing to give exploration a chance.
Once this game started getting hate, for things like 30fps on console at launch, no seemless launching/landing off of worlds, and IMO the MISUNDERSTANDING that all planets are barren of content, people just ran with the hate and it snowballed. I think many of us who love the game now were influenced by this hate at launch. This game wasn't given a fair chance and I hope after a few DLCs people come back and just play the game for what it is, I think they will thoroughly enjoy it

I had never played a Bethesda game previous to this year, yet I’m having a blast playing Starfield. It’s a game for a more mature audience as there isn’t much sex, cursing, or drugs (from what I’ve seen), and it’s a really nice change of pace for someone like myself who also enjoys GTA. In Starfield the world isn’t out to get you, it’s waiting for you to explore it by meeting new people, forging new relationships, and getting thrown into unique situations. The choices I make during a quest-line have an affect on the outcome of the situation and also what other people believe or don’t believe, like the Terrormorph questline. Also, you receive exclusive spaceships, spacesuits, clothes, accessories, and official titles by completing these quests.

I have 200 hours into Starfield so far. I've been playing for about 6 months and plan to play it a lot more. Been playing Bethesda games since fallout 3 and always put alooootttt of time into these games. I currently have ~3,400 hours into fallout 76, to give perspective on what I mean by alot. I too have watched a lot of the hate videos and noticed that while SOME of the criticisms are accurate, there is a lot of inaccurate claims being made and incorrect assumptions. But mainly what I wanted to say was that I like what youre saying about the side quests. I've been saying basically the same thing. I really feel like the main story isn't even meant to be the main thing you do in Starfield. I feel like the main story only exists to make the amount of long and in depth side quests more fun to do. I'm constantly doing something fun or interesting when I'm playing. I totally understand that some people simply just don't like Starfield and that's expected. But I also feel like some of the people hating are only doing it because it's the current "cool" thing to do lol. And a lot of the RUclips videos hating on it only exist because the creators of the videos know they'll get alot of views. Not every video but I've seen a couple channels clearly milking the Starfield hate for views. Good video!

I love the gameplay but I hate the world. Everything about it feels wrong. Like how the Free Star Collective must have billions of citizens, but the Freestar Rangers is composed of five people and they have the owner of a strip mall space station on their council of governors. I have returned to Skyrim fallout and Starfield all this year and have pumped in another 2 to 3 dozen hours into the games. I hardly ever do that with other games. Not only do I like to return to the atmospheres that they have created, but to see what mods or updates have done to the game progressively just keeps the replay value far greater than other games. Knowing i want to go somewhere (like the trade authority), finding a kiosk that will tell me which district its in, then using the signs to find my way there, slowly memorizing the city layout, in my mind, is so much better than placing a marker and following the big glowy thing.

Honestly, I enjoyed a lot of aspects of this game. The questing is a step up from their previous titles. The worlds tend to feel very undercooked, especially compared to their previous titles where the entire thing was handcrafted. Major cities are cool, but their immediate surroundings are not, and that sense of wonder from exploration is, ironically, the weakest in this game out of any of their previous titles because of that. This _should_ be the game with the best exploration, but it's actually the shallowest when it comes to that.
The procedural generation tools they created for this game are genuinely impressive, especially after giving the Creation Kit a look, it's very powerful stuff and creates very convincing worlds, albeit barren ones. The random outposts and points of interest do not have enough variations to justify the vast majority of the game being procedurally generated. I would've preferred 5-10 small planets with way more handcrafted points of interest than what we ended up getting.

Starfield is by no means perfect, but it isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be.
The main quest is where it falls flat for me, but that's the case for every Bethesda game imo. starfield's main quests really makes you think towards the end before the unity, it gives you a choice of morality which i really enjoyed and wished there was more of. The UC vanguard quest/Ryujin/Crimson fleet questlines are all great and blew me away on first playthrough, and they really felt like the true Bethesda styled questlines, and reminded me so much of old Bethesda games.
the gameplay is easily the best out of all Bethesda games, gunplay/ship battles feel great. and ship building is phenomenal.
My only complaint there being that melee kinda sucks, and the gun variety is poor.
I really liked the addition of the "persuade" in dialogue but it feels like they focused too much on that and let go of a lot of other dialogue features that i miss.
starfield is by no means perfect, but it is not a bad game either, its a solid 7/10 for me, with potential to grow higher with future dlcs. as all Bethesda games start to shine with their dlcs In my opinion.
skyrim with no dlc wouldnt be nearly as fun for me, same with oblivion and fo4.

I think the problem with Starfield is it’s pretty great until it’s not and then when it’s not, it’s hard to see it the same again. The core gameplay is fun for limited time, but once you get the point of no return, it becomes really soulless and you almost start to feel stupid for having enjoyed it. After returning to SF since I've last played it at the start of '24, I'm noticing that people are still complaining about all the things this game isn't, instead of appreciating that Bethesda really tried something new and imo did something special. Yes, there are bugs, but that's expected from a BGS title honestly, and it's been this way for at least 15 years; aka it's something that likely won't change. But SF offers something that so many players seem to be completely unaware of: It takes its' time to unfold.
It seems to me that more and more people are unwilling or unable to take their time with something and appreciate it. Starfield won't work for someone who only wants instant gratification and results or who doesn't understand subliminal storytelling - or both. SF isn't Fortnite, it's not No Man's Sky, Star Citizen or Escape from Tarkov either. Hell, it's not even as close to Skyrim as so many people think it is. Skyrim itself is only remembered so fondly because there's a billion mods for it that lengthened the llife-cycle of that game. To me, it has always been pretty boring, I was always more of a Fallout fan tbh. But it doesn't matter here.
What I'm trying to say is that in order to understand and appreciate Starfield, you have to take your time with it and let it sink in. The storytelling and quest system, while not flawless, is still deeper than what any of the previous modern Bethesda have offered so far. The fact that it's not something you're going to rush through to get your hourly dopamine hit is something that we should be thankful for, especially in the gaming world of today where most AAA-games aren't much more than giant microtransaction advertisements.

    • @TahmidHO

@@MexiRambo It's funny you mention that specific quest because there's actually several different options you have for resolving it. In that quest you could simply accept his bribe, Keep Rons secret without the bribe which is essentially the same as before without money.
Then you can choose not to keep his secret which considering the character of Ron Hope sort of makes sense why he would rather kill you out right than sit there and go quiet to jail.

It will get extremely boring really fast. I’ve never tried to like a game so hard before, even now as I’m watching this video hoping to be inspired, as I view the gameplay it just reminds me how empty it really is. Bottom line is Bethesda did’t take any creative risks in developing an engaging story. It’s not like Skyrim where I can post my character up at the Candlehearth Hall inn listening to beautiful in game music and read a surprisingly good book that i found on a shelf at a bandit camp after rampaging through them as a werewolf. It wasn’t hard to like that game, it was hard to put it down.

Man I had a blast & right now it fits into how I would play games after I completed them but didn't want to start over. I would make my own missions in my head. Like even gta 5 I played a lot of hours after I had completed the game. I was basically just a tow truck driver with Franklin or I would do supply runs with Trevor. Same with saints row 2. I did every u can do mission & faction wise & even activity wise. The main thing that hooked me was the UC faction quest. The factions were damn near games by themselves. I've went into damn near every system in the game. Not solar but things u can do. I never thought I would get into ship bubuilding b/c it looked to difficult but then at a time seeing everyone's ships on youtube made me want to invest time & skill points into ship building & piloting. It's krazy b/c that journey of becoming a pilot & master ship building along. So doing these things in between was just like living my life & working b/c the main mission doesn't pay u like that. I invested in the commerce skill. I was master weapon building, working on suit building, b4 I stopped. But the shattered space dlc made me come back to get back used to the game. Now ive been sucked into surveying planets & having a ball...KRazy how ive only been back 5 to 6 days & they've added the buggy so I dont have to jetpack everywhere to get resources

    • @OrangeNash
      @OrangeNash 22 дня назад +1

The problem is that everything Starfield does, is done better my other games. Often 20 year old games. Role playing is shallow compared to other RPGS. Combat is worse than Half Life 2, let alone dozens of other shooters since. Dialog is bland and childish, worse than other story games (RDR2, Cyberpunk etc). Space travel is worse than Elite and No Mans Sky.
The thing Starfield has, is that it is the only one that does all of those things together, in the same game. It is super casual, easy to play with brain disengaged. A lot of the positive comments are from people who don't play many other games, so have no benchmark to compare too. Gamer dads, gamer grandads (I know a few of those!). young kids.
Given all that, I think you are right to say people expected something else. The game was never intended to be some deep, challenging, boundary pushing epic. Those who grew up with the earlier Bethesda games and expected 10 years of improvements, expected Bethesda to have grown up. But they haven't. Instead, they doubled down on the weakest elements of their past games and removed the best parts (eg hand crafted worlds to explore). It's Skyrim in space. Only less. Much less. Clearly some people like it. Just not that many, when plenty of other games have grown up, moved on and are providing something with better quality in each of those elements - exploration, world building, combat, NPC interaction etc etc

    • @homiejagls985
      @homiejagls985 20 дней назад

@ Yeah I agree with you completely. I do see all of these problems in the game too. I really hope that they get some new, younger and passionate game devs at Bethesda soon to make these necessary changes to their game formula.
One thing that has always bothered me in Starfield is the lack of hand crafted areas. The exploration in the game does suck a lot for that. I’m more of a casual rpg guy rn so I would see how someone who is more experienced with rpgs would see Starfield as boring and lame in comparison to any modern rpg.
I think at the end of the day, the game was just way too ambitious for the current dev teams capabilities in the current video game industry. We unfortunately can’t change Starfield to be the game that it should have been but hopefully we can make Bethesda change how they go about their next big release.

When it comes to space exploration, give me knuckles and I'm all in. That's why starfield is too tempting to me. That's what matters to me most. In contrast, Elden Ring, despite being massively successful doesn't match my expectations given that there are always enemies everywhere that you can't even take a 10 minutes stroll without encountering one and this conflicts with the idea of free relaxing exploration despite the fact that Elden Ring's game world is massive and outstandingly diverse and beautiful. I don't hate it but you cannot experience a sense of true freedom in exploration even after beating bosses like Malenia unlike Skyrim.

For example I missed that the clutter Items don't have purpose like in FO4. Same with the outpost mechanic, I was hoping to make a settlement like in FO4. Then I layed the game to rest for about 6 months, I picked it up again before the creation update. I said to myself :" I know you are different, but I want to make this work" a couple of 100h later I had all achievements, downloaded creation kit and actually started to learn how to mod and I released 3 mods so far (5 total but 2 are reworks of the same mod) and now I catch myself thinking everyday :" I could play a little starfield later". @@RavageTV_ A lot of people dislike Fextralife for their unmaintained wiki. They were infamous with a lot of gaming communities but this didn't come to people's attention until the last few years. For example, with BG3, Fextralife's wiki used information from the tabletop game instead of actual in-game data. Fextralife also has a tendency to abandon their wikis after the FOTM period is over - this results in the aforementioned barebones wiki full of empty templates, incorrect/outdated information, etc.
Some people also simply dislike them for embedding their Twitch stream on the wiki so they can pad viewers. It's not against Twitch's rules, but it comes across as disingenuous. That, and Fextralife's wiki tends to top community-made wikis in search results. Traffic that could've gone to an actually maintained wiki ends up going to Fextralife and that doesn't sit well with a lot of people.

My thing is, I love Starfield. Not because it’s gameplay/graphic juggernaut like a lot of other AAA titles. But because it has charm. And I can roleplay as a bounty hunter, UC vanguard pilot, pirate, and so much more. Yeah the game absolutely has a lot that it could’ve/should’ve done better. But the game has really grown on me. I’m taking the old fashion “it is what you make it” approach. And honestly having that mindset has really helped me
I’m enjoying the game more. Now I go and survey planets, do missions, but resource farms, bases. It’s genuinely a fun game. Not perfect by any means but a fun game. Before mods my rating was 5.3/10. Now it’s a 6.8-7/10

I played Starfield for 140 hours at launch and binged it thoroughly. Absolutely loved it. All the negative reviews and crap online about the game honestly shocked me or felt very dishonest to me, and it still does. It was one of the best games I played that year, along with Mario Wonder. I can't wait for the expansion.
I actually feel bad for the people who worked on the game because I think, for the most part, they all genuinely tried to make a great game. They were probably just as clueless about the reaction as I was.
At the end of the day, I think there really was anti-Bethesda and anti-Microsoft sentiment that drove a lot of the hate towards Starfield. Everything from bandwagoning, to getting back at them for Fallout 76, to being upset that it was not coming to the PS5, to just hating Starfield because it was now an Xbox exclusive, and many other things.
For the first week, I genuinely feel like most of the feedback wasn't really about the game. There were a whole lot of dishonest arguments and claims made, and a lot of extreme cherry-picking going on. But sadly, only a person who played it for more than an hour could tell you that honestly, and if you did try to correct the record, there was no shortage of people just waiting to dunk on you and strawman your positions and throw out ad hominem attacks.
Because the hate on Starfield never stopped - IGN and several twitter accounts and channels wouldn't stop bashing the game, I actually felt like this was some form of coordinated propaganda to change public opinion. It doesn't make sense how this hate went on for literally 3 or 4 months after release. That's the really concerning part. This is a very disproportionate response, regardless of what one thinks of the game.
And you even said it - it worked on you. That media machine actually got you to stop playing it. I feel like that was the intent. That's crazy to me. If you loved New Vegas and games like this, I would expect you to give it more of a chance. It's not every day a great western RPG of this style comes out. It's rare in fact. But the media bashing still worked on you.
In my entire life, I have never seen a game more hated online compared to Starfield, and it's sad because the game, while not perfect, is genuinely fantastic. It's a very easy 8.5 or 9 out of 10 for me.

I've got 1000 hours in. Its the only thing I've played for a year. Yet I'm still finding new stuff! The main story was good, but the boring temple runs actually encouraged me to do more side quests. FO 4 was ok on the main story, you wanted to see what would happen. But you felt you needed to be high level because you figured you were in for a big fight so you put it off. F03 had my favorite story so far. Whoever wrote it was a Christian for sure. I love how you sacrifice yourself for the world at the end.
The boring temple runs served a purpose in encouraging side quests.. I really wanted to see what the deal was with Unity, but got bored doing temples so I would do other stuff for a bit. I first did unity after about 100 hours then went back and finished all the side quests and it was about another 70 hours. I've since done a Starborn playthrough and now I'm on my evil playthrough. Plus with all the mods it adds a whole new level of fun. I hope they continue to make games like this. The customization is more important than the latest graphics engine. The hidden things to keep it interesting are great. The ability to save anywhere is sadly going away in many modern games and I refuse to buy those kind of games. Thankfully this one is just like previous Bethesda games.
