Jimmy has been around for decades. His early stuff was out and out rock and he was a bit of a Wildman. He mellowed out as he aged into a Blues singer. You should check out his version of Stone Cold with guitarist Joe Bonamassa. Oh, and the guitar player in that video you just watched was his brother-in-law Johnny Diesel also a talented singer-songwriter in his own right Good one chaps, lol. Keep up the good work

Jimmy was a wild man back in the Chisel days ... quoted as saying that sometimes the vodka made for a great show, and other times not so much. His solo career was even bigger. Hey Hey it's Saturday started out as a Saturday morning show in the 70s but by this stage, had become one of the premier night time variety shows in the country, featuring crazy comedy and showcasing all the famous international touring acts as well as great home grown entertainment. Diesel (on guitar) is an outstanding artist in his own right, who also happens to be Jimmy's brother-in-law. Get well Farnsey! 💕

You were close with your image of 'Hey Hey It's Saturday' It started out as a Saturday morning show in the early 1970s. Their humour was always on the risque side and as their audience grew older the show moved to Saturday nights. It was on air for 25 years and was the showcase for the very best (and very worst - see 'Red Faces' clips for context) of Australian and International talent. They had Stars as illustrious as Sly Stallone, Tom Jones, Rod Stewart and many more as guests on a regular basis and were even a platform for up and coming artists to get their 'act' out there.
The show was controlled mayhem, with regular segments and guests who were all in on the jokes. The vast majority of the population of Australia loved the show and no-one would head out clubbing until 'Hey Hey' was finished at 9pm.

Johnny Diesel does the guitar solo and then sings with them. John just holds his microphone out for him and it makes me laugh. Diesel is Jimmy’s brother in law and a talent in his own right. Jimmy’s wife is from Thailand and lovely, at least two of his kids sing. One of those is David and he didn’t know who his father was until he was 15. He is very Aussie, born here but sings well with his father, they are different. David is the host of a TV show in Australia now. I love that this is Jimmy’s song and he tries to out sing John, not possible.
Oh, no. Not a morning or afternoon show. It started that way but the puppet had a bad mouth. They took it to Saturday nights and adults loved it. Last week they celebrated 50 years since Hey Hey It’s Saturday started. We miss it.

She discussed how she and Jimmy met, her mother and Australian step-father's reaction to that, and life with Jimmy. She also spoke about how she and Jimmy were so into drugs that their children held an intervention on them, which shocked them, and turned their lives around and made them realise how important family was to them.

Perfection. These two go together so well. Their voices so complimentary John's like fine wine and Jimmy smooth whisky.
I Just wish they had collaborated more. There is so much for you to discover for both of these artists.
Jimmy's band Cold Chisel during the 70's and solo career since the 80's and occassionally getting back together with Cold Chisel and he still going strong recording and touring even now at 66. John's time as a teen Pop Idol from the late 60's to late 70's, his time in the Little River Band during the early to mid 80's and his legendary time as a solo artist during the 80's 90's 00's not to mention he was still performing until 2020 at various fund raising concerts and even released 2 number 1 albums in 2015 and 2016 when he was 66/67 in collaboration with Olivia Newton John.
Jimmy's new album you mention Soul Deep 30 was released this year. Jimmy was 66 and his voice is still fantastic. He collaborated with a few other on the album including Sam Moore who is 86, to sing "Soothe Me" and I think it will surprise you. Sam, of Sam and Dave fame originally made the song famous in 1967 and also originally made "Something is Wrong with My Baby" famous also in 1967

They sure do work well together and while Jimmy sings the lower register in this song, you ain’t seen nothin yet. Jimmy can also sing very high, especially in his younger days with Cold Chisel- but even more recently he has sneaked in a bit of impressive falsetto and high vocal squalls. His range is often overlooked because people are just so impressed by his grizzly tone but yeh he’s got both going on for sure.

Guys, you are my favourite reactors now. Many of us in Australia are the grandchildren of British migrants so we share your humour. My favourite ever one-liner from Hey Hey It’s Saturday was when the host Daryl Somers (that’s him in the last frame of your video, together with Ozzie Ostrich), and the voiceover guy John Blackman were reminiscing over Kalgoorlie, the old gold and silver mining town. John suddenly made the best ever comeback line, “My grandfather was an old time mining prospector- he once found traces of Silver behind the Lone Ranger’s horse”! Not everyone would get the “double entendre” about what was actually the horse’s droppings.😅. Another of John’s characters was Dicky Knee. Only a Brit would instantly know what that is. If you ever want to see TV from that time that may not pass the censorship laws now, look up Agro’s Cartoon Connection. There’s an adults only version, all ad lib. He’s wicked.. but times have changed.

During the late 1950's, there was the influx of 'ten pound poms' into Australia; and from this starting in the 60's was a lot of bands that included a lot of the young immigrants. The reference to £10 poms, was that is what it cost for the necessary workers to come to Australia. In fact, the satellite city of Elizabeth(named after the Queen)In Adelaide, South Australia was established to house the British immigrants; that was where Jimmy's parents settled, most working at the (General Motors)Holden factoryat Elizabeth.

Yeah Barnsey support's Port Adelaide in AFL & he supports Parramatta (we just call them Parra) in the NRL which is the same team i support.
Like Farnsey, Barnsey moved with his family from Scotland to Adelaide, South Australia (SA) at around the age of 10 so around the same age as Farnsey. He still does have a hint of the Scottish accent but is very much an Aussie larrakin with the typical Aussie sense of humour.
Cold Chisel is Australia's greatest ever band, even better than ACCA DACCA (AC/DC) & INXS who are two of our most successful musical Aussie exports. If U were to ask the everyday Aussie in the street & asked who is our greatest band the majority will say Chisel.

This was from Jimmy's Soul Deep Album, but essentially Jimmy is a rock singer listen to him singing working class man and also Ke Sahn among others, I love Soul Music and that album has lots of great songs on it, the guitarist is Diesel. Another singer to check out, this time a female is Tina Arena she has an awesome voice too Probably my favourite song of hers is Heaven help my heart, Chains is another, Sorrento moon and many more.

I'd search Cold Chisel's 'Bow River' live from their Ringside tour, a comeback tour for them. Also as a Crows fan I only request that you please do not support Port Adelaide FC hahaha

You can find some seriously good artists who sang with John Farnham. Queen, Tom Jones, Ray Charles and Celine Dion have all done it.

    • @carolynh8866
      @carolynh8866 Год назад +3

Not to mention our own Olivia Newton John, Anthony Warlow and Human Nature.
Then there was the time Farnsey was double Billed with Stevie Nicks and he came on first and blew the crowd away. When Stevie came on, it didn't go well. The next day she said no one told me I was playing with the Frank Sinatra of Australia. As the tour progressed it was clear everyone had come to see Farnsey and not her so she kept shortening his set.
Same thing happenned when he toured with Lionel Richie. People watched John who came on first then got up and left. So the switched the order round with Lionel First and John second.
The smart ones like Tom Jones collaborated properly and they sung together as well as doing their solo sets.
John also toured with his idol Stevie Wonder in 1981 with his original Farnham Band(that included Tommy Emmanuel) and was asked by Wonder to perform Master Blaster with him on the last night.
