I only flown onboard the 737-200 once. Back in March 2013, 5 years before i was officially an aviation enthusiast, my family and i accidentally end up flying onboard the Boeing 737-200. That day we are heading home back to Jakarta from Semarang, Indonesia after 2 days of vacation. I was actually still a kid at the time and don't know much about aviation and that means i don't know about bucket reverser on the 737-200. The airline that flown us back to Jakarta is Sriwijaya Air, which is one of my favorite airline in Indonesia. I was seating in the aisle seat near the front of the plane and my god the sound of Pratt & Whitney engines are awesome when the aircraft starts it's takeoff roll. Never forget that experience. Fun fact : According to my analysis as of October 2023, 61 Boeing 737-200 are still in active service
The last time I flew in a Boeing 737-200 was with Mandala Airlines from Semarang to Jakarta in 2000…. The airline used to flew Vickers viscount on that route when I was a child during 80’s
I flew twice onboard a 737-200 in 1991: Munich-Faro and back with Air Sul, a Portuguese charter airline. Air Sul closed down a year later, their five 737-200 are probably scrapped by now.
Fun fact (depends on how you interpet it) about the MD-81 at 2:05 : It originally flew for Japan Air System (JAS) and was actually involved in an incident when left landing gear broke off during landing. It's so cool to see such older aircraft still flying around😎

Brings back golden memories of my work trip to Venezuela flying Aeropostale DC-9 from Caracas to Barcelona (also in Venezuela) and drinking Polars. Good old Y2K.
We used to get free scotch from Mqta. to Porlamar on DC-9, and the seats were wide leather(Through the plane) like on bussines. Also a 737-200 to Valera. Never felt such hard braking. The runway a bit short.🤣🍸
I flew the 737-200 a few times in Venezuela. I flew one from Santo Domingo (VE) to Caracas and from San Antonio to Maracaibo, both on AVENSA. Also a United Airlines one from Caracas to Miami in the late 90's. However, the backbone of Venezuelan aviation was the 727 and DC-9.
Wow! What a surprise to see you guys in my country of birth! I've been so homesick lately and this bought both a tear and a smile to me. CCS airport hasn't changed in all these years; incredible! And I saw that the aircraft boneyard to the east of the terminals is still there....unreal! Such memories...thanks so much and keep up the good work :)
Nice plane, I can still remember my flights in those planes 30 years ago. Also exiting a 727 through the rear stairs was really a nice experience in the old days😉
Great video David. I live in Venezuela and fly on those 737-200s and MD80s on a weekly basis. Despite everything, Venezuelan airlines and aircrew are very professional and have a pretty good safety record. Laser just acquired an A320 for flights to La Romana. Avior started off with a single Cessna 337 Skymaster about 30 years ago.
Great video of a great aircraft. I flew the B737 200 as a Captain in the 1980s and have many happy memories of a tough airframe which was great fun to fly.
I flew Dragonair 737-200 a few times from Hong Kong to Xia'men and back in the 80s. During taking off, the engines roared so loudly that you have to put your hands on your ears. Thank you for this great video. It brings a lot of good memories of old days.
In Indonesia B732s were spreading around late90 until 2012. Golden moment for me coz make everyone could one due the affordable tickets. Not like now, many new aircraft but the ticket raised high. I Miss the B732.
A trip down memory lane - I worked for Britannia Airways in the UK in the 80s - we were the first airline globally to hit 1 Million flying hours on the 737 - we had an all 737 fleet before adding 767s (and I think we were the first in the UK to do so). We had lots of 200s and they look so small now - we had 130 seats in an all economy 3 - 3 layout. These days that's really small! The A220 has more than that. When smoking was allowed on planes, the air was changed much more rapidly - tbh the smoke just went - it didn't hang around at all. Those were the days - no air rage, drink and a smoke lol - I flew back from Oz in the smoking section (rear) of a KLM 747-400 - everyone smoked but it wasn't smoky. I'm a non smoker these days and am sure its better not to smoke at all - but it was fun back then when anything went...
Overhead bins on B737-200? thats VERY modern,i started using them in 1968 ,if you wanted a jet for short runways that was the one.landed several times in one runway with 1000 meters.
Fantastic and nostalgic post, thankyou! That takes me back to my heyday in the airline industry here in Australia. Ansett Airlines of Australia operated many B737-200 and B727-200 models with the famous JT8D engines. The 727 was my favourite aircraft, such an exquisite design with the 3 x Tri-set JT8Ds mounted at the rear and the in-built air-stairs under the tail. Gorgeous! The DC9 also of course was a very attractive airliner. The B737s were nicknamed "Fat Alberts" here in Australia, as they were kind of short, wide and very cute. The 737-200 engine size to aircraft body size (visually) was very appealing to the eye. So sad they are all gone nowadays. I appreciate the step back in time to (in some ways) better days of aviation - at least here in Australia, when we had Ansett and TAA (later renamed Australian Airlines, then finally QANTAS for domestic). Ansett was indeed a very fine airline that I still morn the tragic loss of post 9/11. I too flew on a 737-200 with gravel kit - it was a Alaska Airlines "milk run" service from Vancouver up to Juneau in 1988. About 3 or 4 take-off/landings on various runway surfaces. What a GREAT airline and cabin crew, I remember it all these years later. The gravel kit fascinated me.... what an awesome little jetliner :)
It would be awesome if the B737-200 could be re-engined with the CF34-8, CF34-10, or Passport (which would be a really good option because it has at least about the same thrust as the JT8D-17 that powers these planes, it's much quieter, and much more efficient) 😍😍😍 and a Boeing Sky Interior cabin refurbishment, too!
This B-737-200 is still in a very good state and very pleasant to watch! Why would these old planes have been thrown to the garbage as this "old fashioned" Boeing did give so many great services? Thanks for sharing!
Another great video! I remember seeing these engines reverse thrust when landing back in the day. I used to fly on the UL & IC b737-200 to & from CMB & MAA. Good times 😊
In my childhood, I traveled a lot, and I was always looking forward to the reverse thrust when flying on Braathens 737-200adv. Then one day the cool thrust reversers were gone, and it turned out they had bought new 737-500 instead. Other than that the planes were similar inside the cabin.
I like this channel because these videos were well researched and without any bias. I personally prefer subtitled videos too. But brutally honest is also great. I think we need videos from both types. Because it feels very calming to watch with subs.
I’m Venezuelan and I tell you something is that apart of Boeing 737-200, also is the -400 series and another old plane that is in operation in the country is the MD 80 series these three planes are very common in Venezuela today for national flights. the only modern plane that we have is Embraer 190

There is one flying in Honduras. It has regular scgeduled service from Tegucigapa to Roatan. Brave to anyone who rides those. I don;t have the b... to do it myself.
I think the old jets are marvelous - and given that Venezuela can provide fuel for lower costs - it makes them ideal for flying in country. A well maintained plane can work for decades.
What a great video! I have been on this series many times in years past, infact I was even on the 737-100 a few times when it was in the fleet of People's Express airlines back in the 80's! The clam shell thrust reverse 's were also found on the DC -9 jets and I was on a few Northwest flights where they used them to push back from the gate....no tug needed! If I remember right I flew this aircraft with Southwest, Piedmont, United, Midway, Air Florida, Air California, Vanguard, People's Express, Casino Express, and America West! Great little plane!
I flew in one of these once, coming home from a contract in the Inuit villages of Northern Quebec around 2010. I have to say I was a little 'surprised' when I saw the old cigar-shaped turbojet engines of eons gone by but I would later learn that these are mainly operated in places with runways that aren't necessarily top-shape. IE the much smaller diameter of the old style engine is less prone to ingest rocks, foreign objects etc... We flew in the back half and cargo up front.
These planes should be saved and put in a museum I also flew in a rare plane before it was put away and till today there not scrapped ! Aerocalifornia and the plane I flew on a McDonald Douglas dc9 I've flower rhe md80 the md83 but these planes are rare plus aerocalifornia don't exist anymore ! Rip aerocalifornia 😢
Great catch! Avior used to have multiple flights per day to Curaçao and Aruba before they were suspended. Fortunately they just restarted operations there.
I've always loved those thrust reversers on this 737 model. It makes it seem like it's a transformer action figure or something. Pretty cool retro isn't always a bad thing folks.
David, thank you for the video. Your Spanish is very good. Nothing sounds better than the Pratt and Whitney JT85 engine used in this aircraft. This plane appears to be in good shape, the restroom did show some age. I have fond memories of flying these planes in the 70' and 80's on Piedmont in the US.
wowwwww... i was born in 1999, but my first experience flying that i can remember was on a 737-200 with aloha airlines when i was 2. The ashtrays in the armrests stirred up some very deep memories...
Great video! I’ve personally only flown on a 737-200 once. The good part about it was that I flew into Tegucigalpa on the Aviatsa 737-200, there’s no other comparable combination these days. (If you didn’t know Tegucigalpa is one of the most challenging airports to land in and 737-200s these days are incredibly rare.)
Those of you who are so young don't have the benefit of many memories. The 737-200 was a fine plane. I flew many miles on them. They aren't a look back into ancient history to me, but rather just one of the many aircraft I've had the opportunity of flying on.
Thanks so much for covering Venezolan aviation! It was definitely walking down memory lane, I used to live in Porlamar so I flew this 200 many times on routes to Maiquetia, and Barcelona (Anzoategui) , and yes, it was always fun climbing into that A340-300 on my way to MIA! They offered a 3-class-config on these flights! It was incredible. I always loved it.
...and in Argentina, I'm sure the maintenance and upkeep on that old bird is top shelf (eye roll). I wouldn't get into that crate any more than an old crate in the Soviet Union that had 80,000 cycles.
Hello David did you ever try Mesa Airlines out of Phoenix Arizona Sky Harbor? Regional airlines and they using CRJ 900 and you should tried in near future.
David, since you were traveling in Venezuela, I think it would've been a good idea to travel further south to Brazil and fly on carriers like GOL, Azul, and LATAM.
great shots of the classic 200 brings back a lot of memories on them the sight, the sound and heading off somewehere special on a very special machine and plane. Thanks a lot.
Funny. Last time I visited Venezuela I flew from Caracas to Puerto Ordaz on an old DC-9 that really concerned me. The seats were 1970’s orange. And that was in 2010.
I remember very well working for Delta airlines and working as a ramp agent this exact aircraft..they used them for airline called Delta Express from Orlando to complete with low cost carrier's...solid plane... and very loud engines...
I always loved looking forward to flying to Hawaii to fly the -200 from Honolulu to Kona on Aloha. Tried to always get tickets next to the wings to see the reverse thrust!
David, you should come to Canada and fly on Air Inuit’s old 737-200’s! Canada is a haven for 737-200’s and I’ve had the private of handling some of these jets of the ground!

Flew on it in 2003 , this one in video has an anti-noise adaptor
The first time I flew I was 14 years old. When I saw the engine do that I started yelling it broke! It broke! Everyone started to laugh 😂😂
We got a bunch of those still active in Canada
Loved flying the 737-200. A classic Boeing jet.
Thank you for sharing this content and for visiting Venezuela; I hope you enjoyed your trip to these Caribbean lands.
Y por increíble que parezca, son mucho más cómodos que aviones actuales...
...and in Argentina, I'm sure the maintenance and upkeep on that old bird is top shelf (eye roll). I wouldn't get into that crate any more than an old crate in the Soviet Union that had 80,000 cycles.
The 747-200 was even more impressive, when equipped with the gravel kit.
Maybe he is. There might be more videos later on
This Venezuelan airline have a cabin better then Latam A320 flying in Brazil.
great shots of the classic 200 brings back a lot of memories on them the sight, the sound and heading off somewehere special on a very special machine and plane. Thanks a lot.
I flew on these a few times heathrow to tegal, they were a step up from the 1-11!
I flew on these back at the eighties with Olympic airways.Nice report
Flew on one of the 737-200s from Las Vegas on Southwest in 1995. Took forever to get off the ground.
Uh wait i literally just turned 42 this year
I was born in 1981
This had to be perfectly timed production to be turning 40
Funny. Last time I visited Venezuela I flew from Caracas to Puerto Ordaz on an old DC-9 that really concerned me. The seats were 1970’s orange. And that was in 2010.
Venezuela was my first international vacation back in the 90's but we flew vasp's 200s
Me trae recuerdos de cuando volaba con la aerolínea como flight dispatcher. 😢
I remember very well working for Delta airlines and working as a ramp agent this exact aircraft..they used them for airline called Delta Express from Orlando to complete with low cost carrier's...solid plane... and very loud engines...
0:14 Target Reverse Thrust😎😎
I always loved looking forward to flying to Hawaii to fly the -200 from Honolulu to Kona on Aloha. Tried to always get tickets next to the wings to see the reverse thrust!
I never thought that you would make a review in my country. I hope you enjoyed
2:46 shows how old that plane was - Sabena is now called Brussels Airlines and Continental is now called United
We need crazy people like you to see these unique airlines and aircrafts. Thank you 😊
0:01 it’s actually called target reverse thrust
Wow this seems remarkably organized and well taken cared of.
I remember when British Airways under the franchise of GB Airways used to fly the 200s into Gibraltar in the mid-90s.
737-200 chrono aviation and nolinor: im still standint
I remember LTU's L-1011 Tristars with the last rows as a designated smoking area: Yellow ceilings, stinky as a bar after a night of partying.
8:09 lets ignore that crack in the engine pylon. The Bondo on it seems fine.
I haven’t been on a 737-200 since the late 80s early 90s 😮
David, you should come to Canada and fly on Air Inuit’s old 737-200’s! Canada is a haven for 737-200’s and I’ve had the private of handling some of these jets of the ground!
Loved those JT8Ds and that wing. Many trips on them in Canada with Transair, Nordair, Pacific Western and Canadian.
awesome video !!!
I've flown in that airplane many times its very nice
Great flight, and yeah retro vibes onboard.
It may be old, but everything seemed to work okay. The toilet looked a lot easier to navigate than some of the ones today.
Soo nostalgy 🤤
the productivity guys!! thanks for your hard work
