Platinum with 6.5 ft bed and no Hybrid was definitely the way to go. To me, there seems to be no real practical reason to go with the hybrid; much less storage, no useful difference in fuel economy, less towing capacity, more complications with batteries, etc.
I’m surprised your Platinum, with its longer wheelbase, has a tighter turning radius than the Pro. Must be something to do with the Pro suspension. I concur with your Platinum vs Pro synopsis too.
Jon, you will get far more with the Platinum than you could with the Pro. Your current truck looks way better, and please don't make it look like something it's not. Great job!
I love my 23 Solar Octane Pro, I did the Wescott Pro lift and 37" Falkens. I wouldn't trade it for any other Tundra. Drives smooth, has decent economy on the highway in Eco, and turns heads and gets thumbs up everywhere!
Definitely agree with your synopsis on the Platinum. I absolutely love mine. I have the 5.5 ft bed but I wanted to be able to park in my garage. The interior in the truck is absolutely amazing and I love the extra storage compared to the hybrid. The trd pro looks cool but I would rather have my Platinum because I agree with you on the seats. I think they are far better in the platinum .
Jon, so I have the identical engine, twin turbo charged V6, in my ‘20 Lexus LS500. The thing is so much quicker than my old 4.6L V8 in my former LS 460. It makes perfect sense that it’s faster, low end, than the hybrid version, albeit tows more…not a huge battery/hybrid proponent.
Late comment. I have the same platinum that you had. After all the things I added to platinum. Yes is the answer to the question. IMO. That’s why I have a Pro coming in soon. Platinum is a good rig. Might as well go bigger.
I get putting the hybrid battery on the taco under the seat for space reasons because its not designed to carry 5 ppl and/or work stuffs all the time but on the full size it really should be like ford has it. That under seat storage is crucial... its your only realistic option.
Ford used different batteries too in theirs. Toyotas are bigger and heavier batteries. I wish they were able to put them some where else though. I agree.
I had a 22 Pro and now have a 23 Platinum Hybrid. While I prefer my Platinum in most ways, especially the much nicer interior, I SWEAR the Pro was snappier.....I wonder if it is tuned differently? Overall I don't regret changing!
Who are you to tell me that I’m wrong I have owned both vehicles. The 24 Pro is a lot nicer interior of course the exterior. It is the best looking tundra there is everybody knows that because they all look the same. The pros only one that doesn’t the interior is a lot nicer. The platinum is all black and it’s boring the Pro with the camo seeds the red stitching, the TT Pro stitching black headliner. It’s a lot nicer interior, so who are you to tell me that I’m wrong when I’ve owned both trucks.
@@Cincithebest513 it might seem like a nicer interior in your eyes and that's awesome. I'm glad you love your truck. I really liked my TRD Pro...but to me, my guy, I find the seats in particular much nicer in the Platinum as they are genuine leather, not SofTex as you'll find in the Limited and TRD Pro. the nice thing about SofTex though is that it's more durable than real leather if you plan on keeping your truck long term!
Off topic but no one is talking about a glaring problem with the “ Factory Installed “ 3 inch lift kit. How is it that substituting suspension/driveline parts at the factory costs as much as buying all the OEM parts with the truck AND buying the lifting parts? That alternative suspension setup shouldn’t cost much at all!
Agree the 6.5’ bed is a huge plus, but it combined with a Crewmax means it doesn’t fit in most garages which seems bad to me for such a nice trim. Love what you’ve done with it and that you’re happy with your choice. I know everyone is super excited about Platinum with TRD OR package and Toyota must think it’s in demand enough to make it, but I don’t see the Platinum customer needing an “off road” package too often -especially since many of the “premium features” of the ORPremium package are standard equipment on a Platinum.
Platinum is my current and favorite trim, ‘18. Now hearing this comparison about the next Gen is great. You can geek out your Platinum, like I did and surpass the pro! Thanks for the video.
2022 Tundra 4x4 Platinum owner here. I thought I needed a TRD pro to enjoy trails and camping. So far every weekend hitting trails here in big bear CA. I’ve been alright, lower air PSI on my 285 tires, and all my gear. I’m doing ok. This is my daily driver, so AVS and Air ride works for me. Yeah I can’t get anything more than my 3”/1”wescott lift right now but, it’s enough. I don’t tow shit, maybe in ten years I’ll buy a trailer but I don’t need it right now. Thank you for the review. I am in market for a new truck, I have been a big Tacoma user, but now want to go with Tundra, so many trims to choose from. Your review helps me to determine which one I will go with.
I think the big panoramic roofs are what keep the AC in these trucks from being able to keep up in the summer. That goes for all brands. I completely agree with you on the 6.5 bed. Also I just think they look more “truckish” if you will with the longer bed.
I have a panoramic roof on my 2022 ram limited, you are correct about the AC part. I fixed that problem by putting 5% ceramic window tint on my panoramic sunroof
I just like the look of the TRD PRO it sets good and has enough power and the 10 speed transmission to blow other manufacturer off the road when they pull up beside you at a 🛑 light.
Pro all day all other trims look the same the pro stands out from all other trims from the way it looks and everything added to it from tires to shocks and suspension bbs wheels and the hybrid is on another level.
What lift did you get on your platinum as I have the exact same model I want 35 Mickey Thompson 35/12.5/20 I’ll have to get the longer axles I just don’t know if a Wescott design shock collar kit would be better or just get an icon leveling kit to fit my 35’s

The reason you’re getting rattles is because you jacked it up and put big tires on it it can only be inspected to have rattles and vibrations It’s a stiffer right and it’s going to make it rattle. Jon, I have a 1794 (Smoked Mesquite/Saddle Tan) coming in next week, with the iForce Max engine, as well as all the other bells and whistles. The final price came out to $75,500 I am thinking about making my dealer order me a TRD Pro instead, just because I can get that for the same price, $76,000. What would you do?
Personally I'd go Platinum with the TRD OR package over the 1794. The interior of the 1794 and all the chrome bits don't do it for me. But you can't go wrong with a pro. If you can get it for the same price ish you're golden. If you don't like the pro and want to sell it later, it will sell higher then the 1794 or platinum would.
@@TRDJon Thank you so much sir! I’ll sit on it and think! If I stuck with the 1794 I would put on new tires/suspension/wheels. If I did the Pro, all I’d need are new tires and that would save some money in the long run. Plus i’d get some things like crawl control, skid plates (more or less lol) and that cool red interior.
Just bought the 1794. As soon as I can I'm trading it in. Very disappointed, mechanically it is right, A/C, interior design suck. This new connectivity on everything is BS. Had a 2007, basic is/was is better.
People should absolutely NOT sleep on the normal powertrain. It's SO good. The grunt is totally there, and it's very capable of moving these big trucks with ease. I need to shut up now before I go buy a TRD Offroad with that engine....
I mean I was able to drive them both but I guess I'm wrong. lol The TRD Pro locks out the steering WAY faster then mine. radius you are probably right for like a full circle BUT just normal parking lot drving I am able to get my Platinum is spots better then this pro.
Get a F-150 Tremor or Chevy ZR2. Nissan is exiting the full-size segment & that will leave Toyota in dead last. The Tundra is simply not competitive on performance compared to the American nameplates. Only way I’d get a Toyota is at a very steep discount … literally would need to be $10K+ off MSRP.
Don’t look now but somebody is making yet another great case as to why the hybrid version is a waste and Toyota should have never done it. If they just have to do forced induction then go ahead but the hybrid crap is a waste of time, money, etc. It’s heavy. It’s overly complex and it doesn’t at all translate to truly significant mpg improvement. They should have done an updated V8. They should offer the turbo V6 as a base, an updated V8 as an upgrade and then at the top end…put forced induction on the updated V8.
A deal breaker for me on the TRD Pro is the Tan headliner of the interior....it looks mismatched with the Black or red leather seats. When the top headliner changes to black, I'll make my decision.
The platinum interior is too good. The styling, leather, lighting
All so good

Yea go the pro route man!
Long bed for the win!
Yes.
😂 Dude TRD Pro Is A PRO 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
If u don’t mind me asking. What do u do for a living brother?
Real estate and RUclips
How do you get money to buy 2 trucks
How did you get the tow mirrors on your Platinum? I want to get them on mine. What did you need to do to make it work?
I bought it with them
The Platinum gets better mpg then the hybrid
Yep
If you’re serious about ever getting rid of it please let me know I’m local and may be interested!
For sure. I plan on keep it a while but you never know.
That platinum is right
Your name is TRD JON not Platinum JON. 🤣
LOL. Toyota Review Dude. Play on the acronym.
Why didn’t you buy the IForce max platinum?
It’s available… 😂
Dealer didn't have one at the time
Seems like anything 2022 and newer is a mistake with the engines blowing up left and right.
Left and right?
Just bought the 1794. As soon as I can I'm trading it in. Very disappointed, mechanically it is right, A/C, interior design suck. This new connectivity on everything is BS. Had a 2007, basic is/was is better.
do the regular non hybrids have that dumb auto off ?
Yes but you can turn it off
@@TRDJonpermanently or just everytime you start the truck?
People should absolutely NOT sleep on the normal powertrain. It's SO good. The grunt is totally there, and it's very capable of moving these big trucks with ease. I need to shut up now before I go buy a TRD Offroad with that engine....
Lol. Very true!! Punchy and peppy. It's great for sure.
Did you jump that pro yet?
Lol ;)
I doubt your turning radius on the platinum with the long bed is better than the trd pro. Thanks for the comparison. Considering both trucks myself.
Let's not let Fact's get in the way. LOL!
I mean I was able to drive them both but I guess I'm wrong. lol The TRD Pro locks out the steering WAY faster then mine. radius you are probably right for like a full circle BUT just normal parking lot drving I am able to get my Platinum is spots better then this pro.
Does trd pro have no hybrid option?
No hybrid is standard
Get a F-150 Tremor or Chevy ZR2. Nissan is exiting the full-size segment & that will leave Toyota in dead last. The Tundra is simply not competitive on performance compared to the American nameplates. Only way I’d get a Toyota is at a very steep discount … literally would need to be $10K+ off MSRP.
Toyota has no desire to be #1 in the full size market.
lol, ford junk no thanks.
I'm sure for towing it is good? But for me and my day to day, it doesn't make sense.
so what year is the TRD Pro?
2023 as the 24's have black headliners.
Your platinum grill looks better than the TRDpro grill.
I prefer GEN3 regardless.
No. The platium is a better trim all around unless you are gonna baja
A deal breaker for me on the TRD Pro is the Tan headliner of the interior....it looks mismatched with the Black or red leather seats.
When the top headliner changes to black, I'll make my decision.
2024 will be black
@@TRDJon Sweet!
You also dont have the crawl, mts etc
Don't need it.
The Pro is just an overpriced Limited. I can't believe they didn't base it off a higher trim.
What kind of lift and tires did you put on your truck?
Hey I have a full build video on that. But dobinsons IMS, Nittor Recon Grapplers and RRW monoforged wheels.
