I like to imagine that this is Earth after years of Combine dominion. Everything was left behind, maybe every human was exterminated or turned into a member of the "Transhuman Forces", helping the Universal Union to seize other worlds, being only a husk of what once was "humanity". Earth was completely resource depleted, turned into a completely lifeless planet. Gordon is alone, left behind by his "Employers". The worst outcome possible for what once was the "Blue Marble".
I like to imagine some huge anomaly or incident outside of the Combine's control happened (maybe even caused by the Rebels), in a way similar to Resonance Cascade but instead making everyone to disappear without a trace.
You know I see a lot of potential for this to get some easter eggs or an ARG. Imagine if as you progressed through the game you see signs of activity that weren't in the original. It'd be for the folks that know this game like the back of their hand, make us feel like detectives in this dead but familiar world.

the population of Earth after a good 20 years under the combine was anywhere from 5-10 MILLION, and city 17 was so empty despite being the planetary capital, so this is probably what a lot of other cities looked like around what remains of the world
I like to think that in this version, everything was the same, except the combine was making a device to vaporize anything in a certain radius. However either they messed up, or the rebels messed it up, but the device started to malfunction and began to vaporize everything biological on earth. And because he didn't see this happening, the gman got fired by his employers, forcing him to free the people in stasis, Gordon, and since he was fired, you don't see him, he didn't even bother removing the mark 4 hazard suit, cause he didn't need him at the time and didn't prepare him yet. Creepy
Would be the jumpscare of all time if at 10:12 that one metrocop comes running out with the pistol shooting at you like normal, and then you never see an enemy again
I have no clue how else to describe it, this whole playthrough is how it feels to walk into the wrong classroom. With that i mean; Clearly not meant to be there, the tension is high, despite knowing that nothing's actually going to hurt you. And your chest fucking sinks if anybody does anything or anything happens at all in general, beyond just awkward silence. (although in the game it's ominous instead of awkward.)

@@backup_rookie3913 i mean its not that difficult to do. here is how to do it you can go to a file in the hl2_alonemod/resource/panels directory called songpanel then where it has the list of songs you can add the song there. you can also make it so it chooses a random song from a list of songs but you'll need to figure out how to use it (its not that hard but i cant be bothered explaining it)
