Styleruns: get most style points possible in a run (style points are points given to actions considered "cool", being "cool": an unusual action, usually made to impress someone)
I think these sorts of playthroughs are important, because on one end you have 'Let's Play' with what amounts to a first impressions and playthrough, and on the other is Speedruns where you're basically watching a God tier player doing complex stuff you couldn't even dream of. This comfortable but not insane level is good for people who've played through and wanna do fun things.
i also liked the fact that a lot of what is shown in the video is useful for a glitchless speedrun, there's not a single instance of ABH in the entire video. if only people ran glitchless
Holy fuck that 13:00 solution to Nova Prospect turrets. God it was such a headache back in the day, feel so stupid to not have tried that. Fantastic edit!
I actually found it very easy as I brought along a turret with me. So I had 4 on hand. I thought the game just gave me 3 turrets because I had already brought one along, so the game replaced that spot with supplies. So I kinda guessed that this fight was actually meant to be fought with 4 turrets at hand.
in Nova Prospect i always carry every possible turret with me till the end. Combine always very unhappy seeing how intead of 3 turrets in the teleporter chamber, they are being greeted by 7 or 8.

As someone who only recently completed his first Half Life 2 play through I must say I found this video both enjoyable and entretaining from learning some little tricks/bugs you can do as well as how easy you grasp some moments while I took way longer to complete them lol
Metrocop is a chef's kiss. I was hoping you'll turn back in the ending sequence and there he is with his stun baton. Should've picked that can after all. But the vide ending was even better than I expected :D
As a fellow half life player that has been playing half life for something around 18 years, (a few playthroughs per year) i get really excited when i see fellow half life players that still play this game to this day. It brings a smile on my face to know there still are half life fans , like me, that love this franchise as much as i do, being willing tonplay it for the 3^⁶ time =))) have a good day man and God bless you
19:52 "You, on the other hand, will be destroyed in every way it is possible to be destroyed, and even in some which are essentially impossible." "Great!"
This is what makes HL2 so fun, it's a playground. One thing I've come to notice about how graphics have improved and HL2 shows really well, is geometry. Everything in HL2 looks so square or angular now in comparison to modern games, the style, models and textures are still not bad, but the level geometry looks like it was made from building blocks.
I got a smile on my face when I see others use tactics I have been using for years when replaying this game so many times. Learned some new things as well.
My favorite trick is to take turrets with you, and by the time you get to combine portal - you have your own turret army, requiring you only to crack a cold one and watch at the destruction they cause. Too bad you can't fit them into portal. Or can you?
In the section at 2:59, I once accidentally got a crazy out of bound, I drove straight forward and got stuck on the burning barrels, when they exploded I got lauched extremely fast up and left and the boat landed on a ledge behind a fence, from there I was able to walk OOB around the whole map to the next loading zone.
Very good video, I expected more bhops and skips, however this video really gives an impression of watching a hl veteran and not a speedrunner which is good .
I already liked the video and the algorithm was gonna recommend more of your videos to me anyway, but the bit at the end with the Oblivion music forced my hand to subscribe. And now I gotta rewatch with closed captions for educational purposes. Fantastic video and incredible skill. The way that you carry yourself in-game conveys such character, I didn't hear a single word from you and I already know you're a cool dude.
"3⁶th time" implies that this is done 3^6 times or 729 times, a half life 2 playthrough is about 5 or so hours so thats 3645 hours or about 0.41 years, i think its time to just put the fries in the bag bro
I once did a playthrough where i tidied up the whole Half Life world. On every map, in every location, i carefully gathered all items that can be moved, and carefully put them on shelves, in trashcan, in boxes, on tables etc. Every box of ammo, every bottle or barrel etc. My inner perfectionist was very happy at the end. Also in Nova Prospect i always carry every possible turret with me till the end. Combine always very unhappy seeing how intead of 3 turrets in the teleporter chamber, they are being greeted by 7 or 8.
At 5:37, back few years when I played this HL2 coop mod called Synergy, if the server was on Normal (the only right difficulty) I would rush at that part and grenade jump to the slopped roof on the right, slide on it and land on the next roof and then make the way to the cart segment, if I was fast enough, I would see Grigori throw the shotgun from that place ALL the way to where it is suppose to go and miss it... Pretty much skip 1 whole map and a half and then the next map as well, although in Synergy you could keep looping back between two maps and confused literally everyone... I miss those days, absolute trolling fun, nostalgia can be quite a bitch ngl... I used to use the Turbo of the jeep while going backwards since for some reason it felt like it went super speed, jumps where funny since the jeep would forcefully do a flip, and at 7:01 I would backwards turbo up the mountain with the jeep and just drive it up there to the next part. 9:01 I would instead of doing this, would instead get enough speed to slide on the cliff wall and make my way on top of it and then slide down on the other side where the small cave is, bypassing the level transition and exploring the half-loaded next area.
having the "pickup that can" guy follow you was hilarious and killing him the MOMENT you got your crowbar was PEAK, thank you for that laugh. and for this style-run!
The strategy where you activate the turrets and put them back in their cabinets while standing inside the empty one with health packs under you is so damn brilliant. I have got to remember that one.
