All Ghostbusters Games: 1984 - 2016 Comparison

- I compare 27 Games from 1984 to 2016 on 14 different systems, from C64, Gameboy, PC, Playstation and so on. This compilation took me at least 70 hours of work, so gimme a like and subscribe!
I try to show representative gameplay of each ghostbusters game, for example: the puzzle/adventure, research, action, dialogue & driving aspects of the 2009 DS version. But because there are 27 game I can't give them more than 1 minute each (!!!), so I had to make very though decisions what to show and what to leave out.
NOTE 1:
The 2009 versions got more time, especially the PC version, because they have the best Ghostbusters feeling in my opinion :)
NOTE 2:
Why did I compare the 2009 PS2 version with the PC version? Because the PS2 version is much more stylized and the PC version is more realistic.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Very annoying: The game is gone from the Appstore, Beeline's Website doesn't list it anymore, they consider it a "legacy title". Unfortunately I haven't downloaded it back then in 2013... So I couldn't record any material, you have to search for pics and videos for yourself, I'm really sorry...

I remember watching extreme ghostbusters on tv when I was little. It was one of my favorite shows at the time. It was an interesting time for sure.

When I was a kid, I once saw a Ghostbusters game that looked super realistic for a 16-bit game (not like Mortal Kombat, but more like the Alien 3 game for Nintendo/Sega). All I remember was that the player was running up a building while the Marshmallow Man was outside. I was so sure that the game existed, and I was looking for it for years. When I discovered that it was the 16-bit Ghostbusters game from 1990, I just couldn't accept it, as it was the complete opposite of how I remembered it.

The weird thing is the first 3D Ghost Busters game is for Nintendo DS
I never realized there were so many Ghostbusters video games made! Talk about milking the hell out of a cow so to speak! LOL
The only one I ever played was the original one on the C64. Simple, fun in an addictive way and actually a good make of the theme song but could after a while become annoying to listen to. My only big gripe was the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was way too small(I would guess there were design limitation and they couldn't create a bigger one based on the game scene).
The Sega Genesis version looked kind of good, the big heads were funny, but the theme and types of ghost/creatures looked nothing like the movies.
Some of those PC versions(what the heck were those all licensed or were some of those versions sort of independently made?) graphically looked closest to what was in the original movie. Probably would like to try a few of them to see how the games play or if they are worth trying to finish.
So they made a video game for Extreme Ghostbusters featuring the ability to play a character in a wheelchair, and there are still ladder functions.
I NEVER EVEN KNEW THESE GAMES EXISTED!

Thanks for posting this! I had the GBII Dynamix DOS game as a kid and always thought it was a really solid game, though difficult (navigating the Statue of Liberty was a total pain). It had a lot of great voice samples and they got a lot of digitized stills of the actors in, which was really ahead of the times for 1989.
Kids who think games look crap then you seriously need to learn why games today look so good! Its called hardware and no imagination! Back in my day it was lack of hardware and loads of imagination! Best days ever!

Technically, aside from the GBA game, they were all released in 2001 and were also Europe-exclusive. A GBC version of a game that was allegedly supposed to come out on more platforms at the time but didn't, a Bust-a-Move clone and a mini-game collection for PC and on top of that a Time Crisis clone released on PS1... in 2004!
@@ScatterbrainPete was the tv show still playing or successful in Europe at the time? I remember in the US me and one friend were like the only kids I remember that watched it in 97 and after that it was pretty much unknown to most people

Yes, like many of the Ghostbusters games that were published for different platforms. That's why I wrote in my long video description for example:

Most of the games I show are the ones that look best of all the platforms. If different platforms of the same game are shown it's because there's something special, for example a more comic art PS2 version of the 2009 game vs. the more realistic PC version. The reason I showed the Atari 2600 version here was that it looks so "basic" in comparison to the Amiga version that it is funny. So not an ignorance just a choice. And again: for more info read the video description. Took me a while to compile all the informations.

A SERIOUSLY missed opportunity on the Megadrive. It was a bland generic platform game with Ghostbuster imagery.

Well it depends on what your criteria for bad is. At the time that game was made, I would say it was pretty good for its time. C64/Amiga gaming really paved the way for PC gaming to make its mark for many years to come. Personally I think PC gaming still holds some strength, that console gaming will never match.
I never got into the Atari 2600 version. I found the controls to bad.
The Genesis/Megadrive game was SHIT! "I woke up and found my house was full of water"? In that case he needs a plumber not the Ghostbusters. It may have had the idea of Ghostbusters, but none of the feel to it. Just another generic shooter.
The N.E.S. & Master System games were horrible excuses to throw out something with Ghosbusters imagery in it.
That game on the Gameboy seemingly had nothing to do with the Ghostbusters bar a vague resemblance from the controlled character. A crappy platform game in little more than name only.
Ghostbusters 2 on the Gameboy and N.E.S. was a good game. Very hard but a good solid Ghostbusters game.
I didn't like the "Extreme" Ghostbusters games, there was a lot of knockoff's of other game just with the Ghostbusters imagery and name put on it.
The first phone game looked good, the second looked repetitive.
I like the P.C. Remake of the Ghostbusters game that was on the N.E.S., (it looked like that one). It had the Xentrix cover too :D
The Nintendo DS version looks good.
The PS2/3, Wii, Xbox 360 and PC versions look great. It's the proper 3rd movie
