Extreme Ghostbusters may have only run for just over three months, but this was the era when cartoons would run Monday-Friday with new episodes almost every day, so the show had 40 episodes. That's plenty of material to build a fan base.
I LOVE Ghostbusters and I enjoyed Extreme Ghostbusters. You had Alfonso Ribeiro, Tara Strong, and Billy West to name a few. I'm going to rewatch it again, it's been quite a while. Can't wait to watch Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
It also still has comics released at least up until 2019
Extreme Ghostbusters also built it's own style and atmosphere, I think the hate comes from the era it was in honestly
In the UK it was on TV for years. Probably the same in other parts of Europe too. My girlfriend is from Slovakia and she says it was very popular there
And for some reason I just forgot Triple Jump is a UK show wtf. I remember it being repeated for years here
@@mikefink7548 That was for the OG Ghostbusters.
Before even seeing the rankings my mind is like "A bunch of awful games, a kind of fun for what it is arcade game, and the 2009 game is actually pretty great"
Forgot about Ghostbusters (1989) for the Genesis/megadrive
@@bemasaberwyn55 The creators of Musha & Puyo Puyo made it.
Good:
A decent arcade game
The NEW Ghostbusters 2 NES
Ghostbusters Sega Genesis
The 2009 video game
I think a decent GBA game based on The Extreme Ghostbusters
AND
Everything else is terrible
@@orinanime Correct, Extreme Ghostbusters did have a Gameboy Advance video game and it is quite decent. It came out after the show had ended its run-on TV and was released in Europe and the USA. I like that you can play as both Eduardo and Kylie and the Ecto 1 is drivable.
@@orinanime ghostbusters 2009 wasn't just decent, but awesome
Always wanted to see a open world Ghostbusters game where you and friends (offline and online) work together by capturing ghosts and other missions, you can also drive the ecto-1 across NYC and you can also create your own home base/firehouse that's totally costumizable.
Not just NYC, but maybe even out to other cities and states like in the cartoon.
There's a game called Ghost Control Inc, heavily inspired by Ghostbusters. It doesn't have everything, but it might be enough to take a look at.
Still, they were great
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed
Hear me out: GB the video game for DS was basically open world with assignments. Also had rpg elements. For this fanboy it filled a void and supplemented the console version of the game.
Wow! Another Peter venkman/Garfield connection. For those who don't know, both Bill Murray and Lorenzo music played venkman and Garfield in live action and animated forms respectively(well, Murray's Garfield was CGI but you know what I mean). It's like these two completely unrelated characters are inextricably linked by the chaos of the universe.
WE KNOW
David Crane's Ghostbusters from 1984 remains my favorite to this day.
I find it sad how the reputation of a bad NES port has colored opinion on the game.
The game was well received in its time, and for good reason. It did a tremendous job ob implementing various elements of the source material into a game, something unheard of at the time.
You don't just shoot ghosts, you use your proton beams and traps just as in the movie.
You can buy equipment to suit your play style, also largely based on the movie in its effects.
You are running a business answering calls from clients to catch ghosts, much like they do in the movie. And also money is an issue, as it is when they set up their business in the movie.
You drive around in Ecto-1 to go move around the basic open world.
And when keymaster and gatekeeper meet Zuul appears.
This game is a classic and did a fantastic job in its day. It tries to offer more from the movie than any of the later games did.
Of course you cannot judge a 1984 game by modern standards, but seeing the discrepancy between this video and how the game was actually regarded back then makes its description here sound really ignorant.
the 84 game on the 8 bits was brilliant, it help sell many home computers at the time and is still really fun the play today, although repetitive but then so is the 'video game' it certainly not as bad as these guys are making out.
Agreed- that game on the c64 was legendary. The Sega Master System got a pretty good port of it at least, but unfortunately it seems that myself and like 5 other people played that version. I agree though that NES port was, sadly, rubbish. The stairwell segment is damn near unplayable
Yep! ... He sliiiiiimed me! ... it was awesome at the time :D
Even the Atari 2600 version was a damn decent game considering what it had to work with re:hardware
Totally agree. On the Speccy it was (is) a great game and I loved it as a kid.
I reckon the reason why there were so many Extreme Ghostbusters games is that the show was extremely (heh) popular in reruns & syndication in parts of Europe. Hence why the games were mainly published in Europe.
The best Ghost Busters game is luigi's mansion
What about tumblepop?
Kind of funny that in the early 2000s Nintendo showed it WAS possible to make a good Ghostbusters game. And no one actually took cues from it
I totally agree
Dead ass true 😂
graaahhh you silly buffoon its erm erm uhh 2014 monster dash by halfbrick studios graaaahhhhh!!!! gb update but they took it down.
16:35 Judging by the fact, the show is remembered fondly, has a 6.9 on IMDB and has one of the characters become a major character in IDW's Ghostbusters comics, those kids are likely NOT embarrassed they liked Extreme Ghostbusters.
They just repeat that because they want to be an edgier version of Outside Xtra.
And here I thought there was only like 4
So did I! (One on the GameCube, one on the 3DS, one on the arcade, and one on the Switch) Bah! I'm just teasing, but in all seriousness, I thought there were only like 4 officially licensed Ghostbusters games as well.
Nope. AVGN took 3 20 minute videos to get through a sampling
If this list is anything to go by you're better off not knowing most of these exist
Don't you wish you could go back to before you knew better?
I honestly thought they were separating the Activision ones into 6 different rankings due to the wide range of quality.
What a delightful surprise!
I liked the C64's Ghostbusters game when I was a kid very much. It was a cool game for a kid and for the time and you could save your progress and get it on the next cycle, so it had some replayability too.
oh come on the commodore 64 game for it's time was AWESOME, i loved it.
14:49
Would love a ranked list of Garfield games now
sadly all but the one for Genesis - Garfield: Caught in the Act - are crap, and note this is coming from a guy that LOVES Garfield, i even like the live-action movies.
I always enjoyed "Big Fat Hairy Deal" on the C64 back in the day, but to be honest it wasn't a great game - I was just an undiscriminating kid!
Maybe do a ranking of Lego games or Spongebob games
Yes yes yes LEGO
Gay
@@mackinblack homophobe
@@humanperson6372 be nice, he's clearly just coming out to the world
@@hosephanerothe1440 they have already done lego games
The list I didn't know I needed. Triple Jump doing hero's work again!
(Hope the Megadrive game charts high! Underrated gem.)
EDIT: BOOM!
Since you posted your comment two hours ago, I will say that the Megadrive game got one place lower than it deserved, given its competition.
I actually quite like the stylized version of Ghostbusters 2009. The player models looking somewhat more cartoony evokes The Real Ghostbusters in a fun way, the way they abridged the story segments actually means the gameplay parts shine through more, and it features male and female playable characters, which is of course a little more inclusive. And it still has the full original movie cast, so the flavour of the game is still pretty on point.
Seeing the 1990 mega drive game brought back fond memories, it was the first game I got for my Mega drive(apart from Altered beast, but I didn't touch that game for months because of the Ghostbusters game). i loved it, i spent so much time playing it and would love a port of it to play again, the difficulty spike coment was totally fair, but they added to the enjoyment for me.
YES! Great memories with this one ❤️❤️❤️
The Extreme Ghostbusters games kept popping up because Extreme was the most recent cartoon that had been out and they banked on kids remembering that show more than the first cartoon or the movies.
What TF was up with Winston not getting his proper credit or being completely left out some games?? Reminds me of star wars' Finn left out of China's movie poster! Kinda shady Asia lol
When the DS version came out, I played it for months on end. My family and I would go camping 3 times a year and on the drive there Id play that game. Ahhhh good times
DS version, to me, is the game you play when you just wanna be a Ghostbuster. I don't even bother with the main missions (I have the realistic version on PC for that), I just take the randomized jobs and bust some heads... in a spiritual sense, of course.
Ghostbuster 2 on the Gameboy was amazing! I replayed that game so many times. Loved the animation style, and how, even though they were tiny pixels, each character looked authentically like the film actors lol. Very fun game indeed.
Ghostbusters (2016) deserves to be called the worst game of 2016. No Man's Sky is close, but this game barely wins.
I agree. Worst Ghostbusters game ever, and even though Sanctum of Slime is just directly below it, the 2016 game just does literally EVERYTHING WRONG. Oh well, even though this is the 40th Anniversary of the first Ghostbusters movie we can always celebrate the greatness of the 2009 game and its remastered versions. And ignore both the 2011 Ghostbusters game where the idiot on the cover is holding his pack UPSIDE DOWN, like an amateur, and the 2016 Ghostbusters game, which literally does EVERYTHING WRONG. It even tries to ruin the iconic Ghostbusters theme song. It tries to steal $50 from you, charging you $4 for what it calls "Classic Ghostbusters Suits", but actually aren't; and has 4 nameless preset, boring, and forgettable stereotypes, and is also a canonical sequel to the 2016 movie, aka, the worst thing to happen to Ghostbusters ever, until said game came out, then, that movie was only the second worst Ghostbusters related thing ever made.
But the 2009 remaster is so amazing that you can just go back and enjoy that game anytime, without worrying about the other shitty games, thankfully.
The Mega Drive version is such an underrated gem. As far as I'm concerned, this game is canon.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game is my favorite of course and I just started playing GB2 for the Gameboy and that one sure surprised me on how fun it is. I own the NES versions but mainly for collection and not for playing
1984 Ghostbusters WAS my childhood. I needed a Commodore 64 because I needed that game. All of the other 150 disks paled in comparison to this.
If there's one thing I didn't like about Ghostbusters '09 it's that it didn't have co-op. Seriously, if any game was supposed to have co-op, it was Ghostbusters. Both me and a friend who played the game a lot kept talking about the lack of it, especially since we used to play Ghostbusters at the playground when we were kids. This game was the chance to really play Ghostbusters with your friends, but unfortunately they dropped the ball on that one. Still a very fun game.
Wow I've only played 1 Ghostbusters game. Really didn't know there was this many!
Mine was on the wii
so happy to see "New Ghostbusters II" so high on the list. One of my favs from back in the day.
Honestly I just wanted to see what y'all had to say about the Wii/PS2/PSP version of the 2009 game, as that was the version I grew up with. It is SUPPOSED to be treated as the same game from the main one, but overall it's more of just a rushed version optimized for those systems, and given a stylized look to not only look good with those systems, but also to appeal to the owners of them. Busting ghosts is a lot more simpler, having the entire process being to just lock onto a ghost, make sure your proton-pack doesn't overheat, then play a bit of Simon Says while slamming the ghost all over the place, and then set it into the trap cone. Don't even need to guide it INTO the trap itself, it just needs to go right into the cone and you're all set. The PKE goggles aren't even unlocked until after beating The Chef, and it's only really useful in making sure to not touch any ghost-set traps and having SOME ghosts be seen.
But yeah, progression's the same, the story's the same, everything is pretty much identical if you were to explain them both to me.
23:30 they had a licensing deal with Papa Joe's, you know, that disgusting slop that gives you GAAAAAAAS?
Funny how "Bustin' makes me feel good" can mean a WHOLE different thing as opposed to years ago.
I like how extreme wasn't that popular but has the most games..
You guys are killing it lately! But… it’s too bad there isn’t a Ghostbusters sports title. Ah well…
Oh yeah, Ghost time!
@@staylor0902 I've never seen a ghost before, but I do believe in ghosts. So I'm going to give this everything I've got!"
I didn't even know there was so many Ghostbusters games
Funny how often the Statue of Liberty appears in these games when I don't even recall those scenes from the movie
I've ain't been afraid of a ghost before, so I'm going to call everyone I've got!
How dare you slander the 1984 game! That was one of my first introductions to gaming on the ZX Spectrum, I absolutely loved it.
New Ghostbusters 2 for nes was a really fun game for the day and the soundtrack still bangs
Every looney tunes game please for the love of God!
Ghostbusters on the Genesis was made by Compile: The creators of Aleste & Puyo Puyo.
Ok, did I miss some type of memo where people agreed that Extreme Ghostbusters was somehow bad?
Seriously, you'd think the show somehow bullied our dude here.
Is it just a bad attempt at a bit?
I remember PP Hammer. I had no idea about Kemco ripping him off. Outrageous!
Wow. Ghostbusters II on Gameboy was pretty challenging. When you defeated the final boss, it starts over on harder difficulty. Nostalgia!
I got that game earlier this year and I love it. The price for it keeps going up. I guess it's kind of rare.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed
This game was released after this video.... I am curious where the game would go in the list.
The only good things that came out of the 2016 ghostbusters is the redesigned gadgets, which i kinda dig and wish to see return.
Also zootfly was making a ghostbusters game set in the modern day, they had some really cool ideas.
Mega Drive Ghostbusters was my first videogame. Got hit with a whollop of nostalgia there.
Now be honest... how long did it take you to realise that it was the orange dude that lived in the hat that you had to shoot?
They also had a role playing game, which I found out by buying the majority of the content from dollar stores. It wasn't bad, definitely true to the franchise and full of some really funny writing.
I suspect that the "late" Extreme Ghostbusters games came about because licensing "Extreme" was likely cheaper than licensing OG Ghostbusters but would still bring in the paypigs.
I'm here to see where Ghostbusters II on the Game Boy is ranked and I'm not disappointed.
Sometimes I am like they have done everything they can for a worst to best list, but their pleasantly surprise me every time
Got Ghostbusters II for the C64 at Christmas. Knew my parents didn’t love me.
extreme ghostbusters may have only 40 episodes and did not do as good as real GB but actual Gb fans loved it and wanted more hence all the games it still has its cult following to this day
I used to enjoy the first C64 Ghostbusters game. It was one of few (possibly only) C64 game I completed. (And therefore most likely the first game I ever finished).
TripleJump is hilarious! Glad i found your page!
Busting makes me feel good.
Me :That's what she said
I love Mega Drive Ghostbusters. Compile knocked it out of the park.
I also owned Ghostbusters 1 on 2600. That was pretty confounding I couldn't understand what I was meant to be doing because the symbols were completely unintelligible.
The '84 Ghostbusters was one of the first games I ever owned on the C64. It wasn't that great but hey, digitized speech!
The NES Ghostbusters game was the only game I ever rented as a little kid where I asked my mom if we could go back to our neighborhood video store so I could trade it in for something else
“Gherstbusters!”
“What the hell was that?!?”
“Gherstbstrs!”
No way I could sit through all 35+ minutes of this with the annoying/“humourous” VO, but I definitely agree with the top two spots. I’ll always have a fondness for the 1984 8-bit home computer version that started it all. Hearing “Ghostbusters! Hahahaha!” in terrible voice synthesis on the title screen was the coolest thing ever back when I was 11 years old.
The 1984 game was also available on the ZX Spectrum, and it was great both on the Spectrum and the C64.
3:46 you hush up right now. That show has an awesome aesthetic. Looks great!
I never played a Ghostbusters game 🎮, but after seeing this list, I can see why, even though I would like to play the 2009 game 🎮 😊
Nice list. I would like to provide an alternative scoring:
Ghostbusters The Video Game (PC, 2009): #1
Ghostbusters (Commodore 64, 1984): #2
Everything else: #3 or worse
Question: if we were to count the expansion pack and bonus level for LEGO Dimensions and treat it as it's own product, where would it place? The 2016 pack is also optional.
Sanctum of slime was my CHILDHOOD
I was born in 85 and loved the Ghostbusters as a kid. I watched the cartoons, had the toys and any time I was off school sick as a kid I'd watch the two films back to back. Extreme Ghostbusters was not something I remember fondly.
Loved the #1 Game! Will you make a video about Spirits Unleashed? I've been hooked on it!
It’s good to see the Mega Drive Ghostbusters so high. Put a lot of fun your into that one as a kid
The arthritis line for the ghostbusters extreme GBA game. Beautiful writing. 👌
Most video games based on movies suck. This is why:
Game developers: "hey there's this movie coming out soon. Let's hurry up and make a game for it."
Notice the 2009 Ghostbusters game didn't suck. There was no movie to rush it's release for.
I had all versions of Ghostbusters 2009, and i loved playing every one of them. Havent played the ds version in a while though and i cant find the wii version at the moment. I mainly just play the 2019 remaster these days.
the activision version on the atari XE was THE BOMB yo. literally top bow-locks
I have fond memories of playing Ghostbusters on the Sega Master System.
The one with the driving segment and the weird flashing map.
Every pokemon game ranked please!
Maybe Winston wasn't in the Mega Drive version because he was feeling kind of blue.
What about the Amiga Version of The Real Ghostbusters?
X-Men games ranked next!!
Hey now Extreme Ghostbusters was a great cartoon. The tie in games weren’t good obviously, but I’m not surprised they made a bunch of them.
I was really hoping for a high Mega Drive/Genesis position! I loved that game!
15:32 the Krazy Kastle Kerfuffle?
I love the "Doe, Ray, Egon" reference.
I love Extreme Ghostbusters. I even just revisited the series maybe 3-5 months ago
I personally prefer the wii / ps2 version of Ghostbusters (2009). I really liked the cartoon-ish artsyle, the game felt longer, had some dope art pieces to find and before every level loaded, and let every tool have their moment to shine in puzzle solving, unlike the remastered
Any chance we'll see worst to best lists of games from these franchises in the future?
Transformers
Mickey Mouse
Bugs Bunny
The Flintstones
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (featuring the 2 Usagi Yojimbo games as Wildcard Entries, since this IP did crossover with TMNT on a few occasions)
Power Rangers (featuring the VR Troopers game as a Wildcard Entry)
It would have been nice to include the GhostControl Inc. as a bonus. This game is like Ghosbusters meets X-Com.
There's only one GOOD Ghostbusters game, and that's the one from the 360/PS3 era.
The 1984 Ghostbusters was also on the ZX Spectrum.
It's incredible to see how many Ghostbusters games there are. 😳🧐
The 84 versions on the 8bits was brilliant at the time and still good fun today, but the master system version is indeed terrible. the c64 also had a decent version of The Real Ghostbusters which is more fun than the arcade version. The problem with 'the video game' is the lack of replay value, the games is a slog and is very liner, it's not much of a game but more of an interactive story
The 2009 Ghostbusters is on the Switch now too.
whats the violin track that plays throughout your video mate? :)
Peter is savage and brutal in this video
I'm willing to bet the 1990 Ghostbusters game didn't have Winston involved because some foreign developer thought no one would play with a black character...🤔
3:13 it probably doesn't make up for the game but that walking animation is kind of pleasant though
19:48 "boo cake"... looks at the image on screen... I see what you did there... and I wish I hadn't
There's a Ghostbusters arcade game at my local cinema that's not here. It looks great but the controls are so bad that I'm not sure if it's the game or if something was busted.
Theres no way the extreme Ghostbusters games are WORSE than the 2019 game
1:13 this is not a reboot that ignores the last reboot. It is a sequel to the original movie.
Hilarious Intro,Guys.
The #1 spot is interesting to me, mostly because I feel like there should be TWO #1's. The '09 game on Wii & Ps2 is almost a completely different game in style, and I actually prefer the stylized look it has. But the one on Ps3/XBox & PC has better gameplay & dialogue. Too bad both aspects couldn't be combined.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife isn't a reboot. It's a sequel.
I knew about some of these games, but I didn't know there were this many. I had no idea how many Ghostbusters games there were.
