Black and white opinions. I noticed the comments were pretty negative over there with many complaining of noise in the cabin. I'm sure the exhaust loud button was mentioned here and not in the carfection review.. Shame that the other reviewers hold nowhere near the reviewing skill and communication of Catchpole over there.
@@AdrianC12345 ok fair point, but most cars' touch screens are still worse than a 100£ equivalent off aliexpress. despite being so accessible these days, the hardware still is just not there... how is that possible?
Infotainment systems in Japanese cars, high end or otherwise, are really bottom of the barrel. At least this one resembles a phone screen and not something from the 80s 😁
I agree. There are no car infotainment screens OEM or otherwise, available with the response curves of a decent Smartphone. It is peculiar that this problem has not been addressed by any manufacturer when there are clearly so many companies that could produce something really good at a reasonable cost to the manufacturer. The operating systems are there ready to use but nobody wants to kick it off.
Frustrating for it to be compared to other McLaren's as opposed to Aston Martin DB11 V8 / Bentley Continental GT V8 which is more of a comparable in terms of numbers/price point... Of course it won't feel as dynamic as a 600LT or 720S and the reason for that is that it isn't meant to be. I bet it feels a lot more dynamic then the Aston and Bentley though...
Only just found this and I think it's an incredibly well presented review that focuses on the right aspects of the car for what it was designed for, rather than just trying to drift around like others would.
Overall I enjoyed this video. I did find the constant comparisons to other Mclarens rather odd though. It's a GT and really should have been compared to its rivals, Aston, Bentley etc.
But its just another basic Mclaren!!! It no where near as good as those other cars. Even the 812 superfast is miles ahead. Because its SOOO similar to the 570, he is trying to explain what makes it different.
The production quality of this video is absolutely outstanding! Incredible effort went into dynamic camera angles, including gratuitous drone footage, interesting locations, etc.
No point comparing this to an LT. But I wished it got the hydraulic PACC suspension. That would enhance the driveability he's talking about with this same ride comfort.
Great job, reminds me of an Aston which he mentioned the bond car chase💥. More space bit more refined and chilled but u still have the Bruce badge!👍 C&G Cars and Bikes on fb😊
I wonder how fast it will depreciate. You can get a 570GT Used for under £100k now. Some notes from this review. A GT car I think should have steering wheel controls. Infotainment really should be better for this price. I do like how it looks. I think the steering should have been more responsive but I'm glad its still great to drive. Throttle response should have been better when you're not in boost. I didn't think the exhaust noise was that good either. Mclaren 600LT would be better but I was more interested in 570GT vs this, which one would you choose?
Look at him using his middle and pointy finger, if you want to use Multitouch than you gotta use your thumb and pointy finger, otherwise the motion will not be precise because of the positions of your finger, that’s why it’s lagging
I own a Mclaren 570 GT, was at the launch of the new GT model at Woking, I don’t get this model at all, I wouldn’t trade my 570 GT, yes it’s bit faster, it has a bit more luggage space, the current 570 GT with class covered roof and additional boot space is the best looking McLaren in my opinion, great on the odd track day , still does a decent job of long distances , I won’t trade extra space and lack of steering feel and on road agility. McLaren need to look at what the current 570s and 570 GT owners are going to trade up to , as all owners don’t necessarily like the 720s.
No, it wouldn't be a "fantastic daily driver" at all...! You are just another victim of such fucking stupid marketing bullshit bla bla by this guy Dan Prosser!
It's 2019 and we still can't have an infotainment screen that works as well as a $500 phone, another car video where the majority of the camera angles are of the drivers face, which makes no sense. No detailed info of the driving experience as it pertains to the infotainment, controls and actual driving experience apart from what it feels like in a turn. There's a lot more to driving a car than how it handles and what its engine response is like. Also, constantly comparing it to what "other McLaren's" are like instead of what it's meant to compete with is kind of pointless. That's like comparing a Cayenne Turbo to a 911 GT3 RS instead of another SUV in it's class. Come on...
Something has me wondering if Honda should work with McLaren so they can learn how to make an NSX that has a pleasing interior with GT handling characteristics and possibly a twin-turbo v6 that screams to infinity each time its pointed towards its next destination. Or perhaps that's asking a bit much seeing how that worked before with MB....
I think McLaren should've moved the engine to the front to make this car really practical and useful for long trip. It's a GT car after all, not a race car or supercar.
Thing is, McLaren has no experience with the front-engine layout, and I don't think they would invest in research for a lone model in their lineup. But who knows, maybe they would someday and they'd use it for their entry-levels and a GT or SUV.
Ironically, I coincided with the conclusion of this video from preview reviews, HOWEVER the color combination in THIS particular car makes me like it a lot more than before, makes it a contender against an Aston or a Continental....
Steve B To be honest I thought Carfection was less than positive especially about the seating position, made me wonder if their was a fault with seat, Prosser made no such comment. Big fan of Carfection, Catchpole is one of the best, but in this instance I just not come away feeling I had learned very much .... other than they could not sit low enough in the car. Everyone has an off day, and Piston Heads did a good job with a well made film, informative, and balanced,
The GT isn’t for me, it doesn’t quite look right... however one really enjoying Dans videos. Keep them coming, great to finally have decent video content coming from PH.
thanks liked your review , I just bought one today , here was may choice a 600lt or the gt , I like the GT that much I didn't even drive the 600lt . here the problem its not a GT its a softer car than the 600lt but after getting in and out the 600lt with Senna seats 3-4 times I had had enough lol , its a bit slower over 0-60 like .3 sec who cares its about 20% softer who cares . think it looks amazing and like how it drives . this to me is like a good cyclist he wants the 13k road bike buys all the carbon bits that save 200grams here and there has a super fast bike , but hes not a pro cyclist so what's the point lol .but it makes him feel better that's all . iam on the road most off the time so think the GT is the best , I have Ducati V4SP Panigale that I track so that's sorted 😁
I don’t understand why you are comparing the GT to other Mclarens, doesn’t make sense? It’s the companies first proper GT (excluding the 570GT) and stands alone in its fantastic lineup. I’m in my late 50’s so this car is definitely the one for me, I don’t want a track car but I do want a gorgeous Grand Tourer that’s not a wallowing whale and is exciting to drive when that’s what you want. Can wait until it arrives in NZ!
this car is in it's own category nothing else compares to it no one else has fused F1 supercar x GT comfort there's a reason Ferrari, Porsche, everyone's copying McLaren lately
To constantly compare it to the 600LT which is a track focused car for the road is missing the point. I own a 765LT which is in my opinion the best super car ever imagined. The McLaren GT is perfect for the Brand afficianardo who wants the McLarens experience albeit more relaxed with longer legs.
@@niandra92 I agree it's a British marque and it's certainly more rare. I'm not entirely convinced more rare directly equates to more special. As to steering feel, several recent reviews have commented the GT steering feel is "better than most EPS systems". That said, the Porsche EPS is arguably the best EPS in the industry. I'd say the verdict is still out on steering feel. As to engine note, turbocharged flat 6 vs turbocharged v8, that's a matter of preference. Both being turbocharged and somewhat muted neither have a particularly good engine note compared to naturally aspirated versions. Therein lies my point. The GT offers rarity and being British. The market will determine if that is enough to overcome the advantages competition like the 911 has in terms of space, usability and all weather capability, factors that are important in the grand touring market segment.

Its just mad to criticise a 2 seater carbon tubbed supercar because boot #1 is a bit shallow and can only carry 1 set of golf clubs and skis or that it isn't as sharp as other harder core non GT cars in the Mc range.
