If it is 62k less than a 296 GTB, it obviously isn't a competitor to it. But as a rival to an R8 Performance or 992 Turbo (S), it sure is a nice option. The design is also amazing in my opinion.
2:30 But there has never been a McLaren you can do this in before, two presses here into e mode and you creep into a village on electric... Never?🤣 I remember Jeremy Clarkson did the same trick in the McLaren P1
The 296 is not really the comp here as its more expensive and faster. Its actually the MC20. Both have the same price, speed, quickness, interior simplicity, etc. (other competitors are the R8, turbo s, RWD huracan, NSX). And I'd take the MC20 just based on looks alone over the Artura and the fact that it sounds better with the Maserati's cool blow off sounds (both engines sound pretty dull otherwise).
Quite right. MC20 is prettier.... Oh just read on, you said that too. I am a little bored of Mclaren though, it's the same design over and over again. If you can afford this or a MC20 then you could probably afford a 296 lol... if I had the choice, it would be a MC20 or 296. Actually I've just googled the price, are you sure? It looks like the 296 is only a bit more expensive. No sorry mate, the Ferrari is nearly 100K more and the two cars would reach 1000m's neck and neck as the Ferrari is heavier

On paper, the two share cylinder count, are close in engine capacity, even total motor output looks similar, but the tried and tested 911 seem to best this thing on practicality and possibly outright performance. As such I'm afraid the answer might currently be no... Another conteneder this thing needs to fare well against is the already few years old "new" NSX - also a 6-cylinder hybrid with performance and efficiency and road-going credentials in a sports car suit... Or once they transplant the idea into the super series model, when it's going to be more in line with the Ferrari counterparts... Still, 911s soon will also inevitably be hybridised or EV-olved in future and they might bring to the table even more outright performance and clever packaging under same hood to again push the results in Stuttgart's favor... I'm guessing that is why this model came to be just because of this - Macca has not managed to become the first in the super series target demography market to offer the hybridised super car, so they lost the "first to offer" PR campaign creds, the ultra series market is already brimming with various hybrids and EVs they'd have to fare against with their new product, it simply was safer to reveal new platform for the lower sports series and test the ground/Macca fans reactions, as this market segment does not have many high performance hybrid supercar-looking vehicles - there's basically NSX and the rest is mostly ICE only... Less competition equals possible better sals and testing ground for the "new" building blocks solution. Regardless, it's pity they've not included regenerative braking, whether on track or on road, you have to slam and touch the stoppers quite often and a lot of energy oculd have been recuperated for the electric motors to utilise once the need for forward thrust arises...

C8 Z06=faster, cheaper, sounds better, looks better, faster track times
@@Marcello2005 But it's a Chevrolet lol, it's not in this league, the corvette is a middleman car not an exotic for many countries lol.
The R8 no longer sounds better, they ruined the exhaust with the gas particulate filters. I think the artura looks better than the 296 but i'd take the ferrari or turbo s over this still depending on what mattered more to me
@@KevGoesRiding V10 with the filter still sounds better than this
@@KevGoesRiding I also think the artura looks nice. Id rather have a 720S over any of them but apples to apples and all that
Best looking Mclaren in a long time IMO.
11:40 song is called Howling at the Moon by D Fine US
Why don't we have this on TG TV? Great quality to this review, Mr Marriage.
Wait a minute, doesn’t the P1 do this? Oh it does!
Made with the consumer’s who don’t have millions.
Where in Spain is this road ?
No doubt Maclaren is a awesome day making vehicle depicting warm and bright orange colour like we see when sun just rises and sets. ''Morning🌄(Maclaren) shows the day'' this statement absolutely a perfect match.💫❤😊👏🏼👏🏼
Did they ever fix the transmission problems?
I would pick it over MC20.
A publican friend has a 720s and it's incredible.
He was a Maserati guy, but loves the McLaren more.
Hopefully McLaren has sorted the reliability and build quality issues.
According to Autocar some of the testcars had electrical problems and one of them even caught fire.
Yeah McLaren and build quality......no....they don't do that.
Very nice car nice whip
2:47 Those buffer trails on the bonnet 😵💫🤢
I just ordered mine. Poster should be coming soon.
I know it’s not the focus, but that color!
What a beautiful circuit.
Awesome 🤩🤩🤩🤩 McLaren >>>
i dont mind parade. i absolutely love it
Matt from Carwow merged with Ralf Ragnick. A niche hybrid you have to say.
the design is lovely
This man is a brilliant brilliant presenter.
Feels like ferrari design evolves somehow, but the mclaren car seem to be about the same cars with different headlights
mclaren design definetly evolves- going from the 12c to the 720 there's clear evolution going on. I still think the 720 looks like a futuristic alien spaceship. the problem is, the artura doesn't look more futuristic than the 720, and it's supposed to be this next-gen hybrid spiritual baby P1 successor. hell, I think even the P1 looks more futuristic than the artura. the artura is by no means an unattractive car, in fact it's quite gorgeous. but it just doesn't have the same level of finesse as the 720's design and it looks like it should be placed in a tier below.
@@budja1501 it's not supposed to be above the 720S though; it's an evolution of the sport series, so the 570S. Makes sense that it looks lesser than the 720, but to my eye it still looks too similar to the 570.
I'd argue even the lights don't change all that much.
@@nathanstretch okay- that makes more sense. That being said, i think it looks too different from the 570 and has lost a bit of character.
Yap
How can you compare ferrari with mclaren ?
What’s the song at 12:10??
This should be the new Top Gear
looks like a sleeker lykan hypersport from the front.
McLaren coming out with some banger cars
That dash instrument cluster reminds me of an R32 Skyline
The Artura looked like an OP McLaren car.
What is the name of the circuit?
Good job
1 year later zero people have bought this car.... even the 296 is struggling big time
Would rather this guy on Top Gear TV program.might watch it then
Great package!
This all reminds us the Honda NSX was ahead of its time.
Design is spot on, looks a beaut

Really like Ollie as a reviewer.
Couldn’t you drive on electric only in the p1?
