Same, like, I felt dread for him, cause I've never seen him alone on stage, ever, and I'm just thinking of his social anxiety and I went 'oh no', but then he started talking and I realised that, more than that, I'm just really, really proud.
For someone who is so socially anxious, he sure has no problem being a dick to people who are socially awkward in front of him instead of reassuring them. Looking at you, "WHAT DO YOU EXPECT, I'M GAY?!" guy.

@@whoogh the things that bothers people like me isn't that they exist in media as characters. Gay characters aren't bad, but how they are used and the intentions behind why they exist are!
Cheers, mate. I feel the same. Including diverse characters without making their diversity The Point isn't pandering, it's humanizing and more realistic storytelling.
it's so annoying bc characters can be cis, straight, white, and it doesn't have to mean anything as they're seen as the "default". as soon as a character strays from that, they need a purpose. they cant just BE gay or trans or a person of color..
What the McElroys do right about diversity is that they have it without lampshading it. There are gay characters, trans characters, characters of different races, etc, and they're just there, doing what they do and being awesome without making a big deal out of it. If you want to normalize diversity, this is how you do it - without unnecessary fanfare.
As much as I love watching and of the McElroys speak in public, their audience interactions really betray how genuine they are. Griffin seems to seem so relaxed with the QnA. It's like he doesn't enjoy talking only about himself, but enjoys helping others through himself.
My favorite thing is that someone went up and asked FMK for Taako, Merle and Magnus and Griffin straight up said no. I absolutely respect that. Where do you even go after that? Your life is basically over at that point.
I never knew what happened to their mother until today. It's really refreshing and emotional to know that a family as amazing as theirs went through such internal hardship.
I can see Griffin’s anxiety and him pushing through it and I hope he knows I’m proud. *shouting at the sky as if I’m threatening God* GRIFFIN I LOVE YOU AND IM PROUD OF YOU AND I HOPE YOU KNOW THIS AND THAT YOURE HAVING AN AMAZING DAY
"hi I'm Lillie!" Me: ok "I actually host a podcast called The Good Boys Girls" Me: *B L U E* She said Griffin talked at her school but I didn't realize that that was her!!!!
Yo, what Griffin said about just "being there" for a friend who's lost someone is REAL. If you have a friend who loses someone (I'm coming from the perspective of losing a parent but losing anyone close is devastating), spend time with that friend. Be there for them. They feel incredibly alone, and literally doing anything to spend time with them and support them goes so much farther than you could ever know. If your friend is grieving, it's scary to not know what to do, but if you're worrying about it, you're already doing a good job caring about your friend. Reaching out and supporting them, literally doing anything, is the kind of help that only you can provide and it means so much. Thank you for caring about and supporting your friends. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Hi! I was the person who asked this question, and I've spent the past several months feeling awful about asking him about something that is personal and painful, and I've been thinking about writing to him to apologize. I may still do that, but I'm glad that someone appreciated his advice too! Thank you.
goofs aside, this is so cool. i'm a journalism student and i've been really inspired by all of the mcelroys' content for so long. i know that i'd love to someday make something as groundbreaking and influential as TAZ (or some of the other mcelroy products), but it's so easy to think that it'll never be new enough, good enough, etc. OR that you're not even equipped to make it with the skill set you have. i love griffin's point that it's okay to not totally know what you're doing, because then you'll have the space to really learn new things and grow as a person. it's awesome to hear him articulate his creative process and give advice. griffin's great, man

As someone who graduated from a Florida University (USF) in the past year, I have realized that my worst life mistake was not going to FSU to see this legend live on stage
this was so truly buckwild to watch,, (like one of those Rowdy Boys giving a Lecture??? at a Uni??) but also like i really needed this. I as approach my senior year of high school i keep getting asked what im going to do with my future and i really just DOnt KNow, so hearing one of my favorite people talk abt all his trials and jobs that he didnt stick with and how his career path has not been linear was so reassuring.
ok everyone else has covered how he did amazing and how sad his story was so im gonna just put my input in i love listening to his voice its very good for my ears and i love his voice this hour and a half was a blessing to my ears
maxb0t His voice, Justin and Travis too, but his voice is so comforting to me at this point because I’ve been through so many intense life experiences with his content there to help get me through it and it’s just crazy in this future we live in how deeply important one person can be to so many other people. The three of them feel like big brothers to me and they’ll probably never know who I am but I just hope that they know that the work they’ve done has been so worth it for the sakes of complete strangers’ lives. ♥️
Griffin and all the McElroys give me hope for a better tomorrow. Hearing him talk about their grief is so moving. I lost my mum, dad, uncle and gran in a short space of time, I hope one day I can pull myself out of this hole and create some smiles and laughter in the same way these wonderful people have
This lecture was a life saver cause I was just panicking in the corner of not knowing what to do in a communications program when I head off to college in a few months, and while not all of this is applicable, it was super helpful.
This shook me to my core. My mom died suddenly in 2017 and Im in tears that the McElroys truly understand. And they're succeeding. It gives me hope. I haven't had that in a very long time.
What he said about the adverse effects of social isolation really hit home for me. No one else has given me this kind of clarity about my creative mental state. Thanks, baby brother.
I usually don’t watch things like this and wasn’t going to, but wanted to see the opening. Next thing I know I’ve watched a whole hour of Griffin talking about his life and I want more.

it's so annoying bc characters can be cis, straight, white, and it doesn't have to mean anything as they're seen as the "default". as soon as a character strays from that, they need a purpose. they cant just BE gay or trans or a person of color..
"Or, we could decide to never let each other out of our sight ever again."
You just watched over 90 minutes of Griffin talking
Feels like 5 though doesn't it?
Jesus, I thought you were kidding. It just flew by!
@@weirdaljedifan2 haha I was quoting a video Justin and Griffin did
But yes it really did fly, this man has a way with words
it feels like something
I'm watching this the night before my graduation and I am absolutely bawling . I am so grateful for this to exist.
congratulations!!
Congrats man!
Sweet baby brother Griffin the verbose intellectual
I never knew what happened to their mother until today. It's really refreshing and emotional to know that a family as amazing as theirs went through such internal hardship.
I can see Griffin’s anxiety and him pushing through it and I hope he knows I’m proud.
*shouting at the sky as if I’m threatening God* GRIFFIN I LOVE YOU AND IM PROUD OF YOU AND I HOPE YOU KNOW THIS AND THAT YOURE HAVING AN AMAZING DAY
Elizabeth Powell good profile picture
ominous warning same to you
"hi I'm Lillie!"

"I actually host a podcast called The Good Boys Girls"

She said Griffin talked at her school but I didn't realize that that was her!!!!
an icon...... a badvertising queen living her best life
i legit did like a double take at that i so wasnt expecting her to be in this lmao
Wait WHAT Penny's friend does a podcast about MBMBaM?!
@@Fralexion oh buddy you gotta listen to good boys girls w i believe blue and hayley? and badvertising with them and penny
@@dogmouthhorse I just started to a couple hours ago, they're all very good girls
The way that he can instantly read that a person asking a question is nervous, and self-deprecates to make them feel at ease... Umami.
“If it weren’t for Gallagher I wouldn’t be here.” -Griffin McElroy
Amazing
Thank you.
Really great speech from Mr. Sprite Pepsi. He seems like a cool dude.
*my love for griffin mcelroy intensifies*
"im 20 and pokemons the only thing i can think about" god that is a mood
I love this TEDtalk
um his name is Griffin
goofs aside, this is so cool. i'm a journalism student and i've been really inspired by all of the mcelroys' content for so long. i know that i'd love to someday make something as groundbreaking and influential as TAZ (or some of the other mcelroy products), but it's so easy to think that it'll never be new enough, good enough, etc. OR that you're not even equipped to make it with the skill set you have. i love griffin's point that it's okay to not totally know what you're doing, because then you'll have the space to really learn new things and grow as a person. it's awesome to hear him articulate his creative process and give advice. griffin's great, man

41:33 I spontaneously started tearing up because I read that short story and vaguely remembered the author name and for some inexplicable reason NEVER connected the two synapses together to realize it was the same Griffin McElroy and that story is my favorite out of the collection, I just had the realization that Griffin McElroy has contributed to the Star Wars canon and I’m just crying! Ok!
I love how often people who have these amazing careers and who I look up to had no fucking idea what they were doing at 19 either because it helps a little with the panic
“i’m a clown man. i’m a child boy.”
Griffin made it 3:23 in before he said boy. That’s the internet’s sweet baby brother for ya
It's amazing how her just plows through that anxiety. You can see him scratching and uming but he never breaks his flow.
1:16:39 - Well that hits differently now
"Does anyone know how to run a sound board?" Oh man I would have loved to work for them!
"if you're lazy like us" he says after talking for an hour about how much work he does and has done his whole career
OH MY GOD LILY WAS THERE??? I LOVE Lily's content. I was just really surprised to hear her. If you haven't heard of her go check out her stuff it's really good. And also this whole presentation in general is super good and a big thank you to Griffin for it
HELL YEA SOMEONE ELSE IS A LILY FAN HERE
God the bit about losing a parent is so painfully relatable. Seeing the boys manage so well after something like that gives me hope
I hope you're doing well ❤️
@@idrathergotohell5215Really sweet of you to reply to this. I actually am, thank you 💚 time makes things much easier, even if it still hurts sometimes.
Y'all, Griffin is really great at public speaking.
"Previously on the Adventure Zone." One of the great pleasures to hear over a set of headphones.
or at least it used to be
I've only been aware of the McElroy's for about a week and I have to say they all just seem like genuinely wonderful people.
As someone who graduated from a Florida University (USF) in the past year, I have realized that my worst life mistake was not going to FSU to see this legend live on stage
As a UCF alum I agree that going to USF is always a mistake
Allison Moss honestly facts that school sucked lmao
I saw the thumbnail and just knew he was dying at the podium. BUT IT WAS A GREAT SPEECH.
"what will you do if yahoo answers ever gets shut down?" WHOA very prophetic question now lmao
this was so truly buckwild to watch,, (like one of those Rowdy Boys giving a Lecture??? at a Uni??) but also like i really needed this. I as approach my senior year of high school i keep getting asked what im going to do with my future and i really just DOnt KNow, so hearing one of my favorite people talk abt all his trials and jobs that he didnt stick with and how his career path has not been linear was so reassuring.
Finally pure griffin talking without any interruptions
im actually tearing up, im SO proud of them
Bryan, I am so proud of zem
At 6:02 when we talks about brothers and "weirdly they share the same birthday" - they're both quite likely Valentines babies 😂
lily: I host a podcast called
me: oh god don't
lily: the good boys good girls
me: oh shit! i've listened to that!
1000% jealous that Griffin was in my town and I couldn't go see his talk.
ok everyone else has covered how he did amazing and how sad his story was so im gonna just put my input in
i love listening to his voice its very good for my ears and i love his voice this hour and a half was a blessing to my ears
maxb0t His voice, Justin and Travis too, but his voice is so comforting to me at this point because I’ve been through so many intense life experiences with his content there to help get me through it and it’s just crazy in this future we live in how deeply important one person can be to so many other people. The three of them feel like big brothers to me and they’ll probably never know who I am but I just hope that they know that the work they’ve done has been so worth it for the sakes of complete strangers’ lives. ♥️
I can't say I was expecting to be in tears 14 minutes into this talk but here we are.
Griffin and all the McElroys give me hope for a better tomorrow. Hearing him talk about their grief is so moving. I lost my mum, dad, uncle and gran in a short space of time, I hope one day I can pull myself out of this hole and create some smiles and laughter in the same way these wonderful people have
Griffin is such an amazing writer. Like, I want his book. Now.
Jk, he doesn't need that on his workload. lol
There's always Grant Andrews Kid Cop
oh no! I'm crying!
Surely I'm not the only one who felt a storm coming and for better or for worse glad they cut the video short where they did.
This lecture was a life saver cause I was just panicking in the corner of not knowing what to do in a communications program when I head off to college in a few months, and while not all of this is applicable, it was super helpful.
I’m crying griffin means so much to me
This shook me to my core.
Next thing I know I’ve watched a whole hour of Griffin talking about his life and I want more.
i had to rewatch how the dude said “griffin mcelroy” the last time a FEW TIMES because it just makes me happy. the emphasis
1:29:20 Griffin talking about LGBTQIA+ respect, for those who need a good boy being a good ally.
God I love Griffin so much, so happy youtube put this in my recommendations. Hoping the brothers are able to do more talks like this soon
Griffin my beautiful clown boy, my mint man, vore corner kid, I’m so proud
