About 15 mins into this i thought to myself "wow i cant believe how much im enjoying just listening to one single person talk" then realised oh yeah, this is what Travis does for a living and hes very talented and practised at it. Very proud of the middlest brother, this was great.
It speaks volumes about how compelling speakers The Good Boys are that I suffered through 87 minutes of the loudest, hard left panned audio I've ever encountered on a video not intended as a troll on RUclips.
I’m assuming one is for speakers and one is for recording audio (which isn’t necessary, but it’s the only thing I can think of). Based on the audio quality it clearly didn’t work lmao
holy shit i just clicked on this while browsing through random mcelroy videos and i just now noticed that im 45 minutes in. how did 45 minutes go by without me noticing? i was so focused on what travis was saying, damn he's a good speaker.
It's the cut of his hair plus some gel (I assume) ;his hair was cut and then brushed to look like that! Talk to a hair salon person and show them a picture of travis' hair! Hope this helps 🍰💐💇
Christopher Bush Mostly his comments on tossing the energy back and forth as opposed to trying to make the podcast yourself, however the 30 minute lecture on microphones has also led to me becoming a stickler for sound quality as well hah
This was really interesting to listen to, speaking as a person who's not at media school but as a person with autism/adhd who likes to know how the things she likes are made.
How in the hell does a broadcast media school pan an entire guest lecture hard left and not notice before uploading to RUclips? Haha that's really bad advertising
This was real good. A fantastic look into how to be an up and coming podcaster but also to not be afraid of making mistakes. Thanks Travis, very good talk.
i think it's really funny that travis when talking about messing up says "27-28 episodes a week" instead of a month like he said earlier idk if it was an intentional good but either way i love this brother and his advice
This is so awesome, I loved hearing our middlest brother giving his life story and background. The only problem is that the audio seems to be coming through only on my left speaker. Don't know if this just me, but just wanted a heads up!
It was about 1962 and your grandfather McElroy walked into our living room, when I was about 12 years old, and presented my mother with a chastity belt. This was one of his bi-annual trips from Ironton, OH to Coudersport, PA. My dad was planning a hunting trip out west and planned to leave my mother and we kids behind. I always thought that my Uncle Clint was a overly humorous and fortunately at 12 the chastity belt was a bit over my head. About nine years ago, when we were cleaning out mom's home, I found that hammered metal chastity contraption. I know genetics can work themselves down though the generations......you and your brothers definitely confirm that. Your Cousin, Paul Gardner.
Also they have a story, (wouldn't classify it as funny but VERY McElroy) where the first Christmas after she passed, no one knew how to cook so they all went to golden corral ON Christmas. And basically described it as the poster boys for a sad Christmas
For anyone coming here being annoyed by the audio: If you have an iPhone go into Settings -> General -> Accessibility and scroll down. There is a switch called “Mono Audio”. Activate it and the audio will be fine.
Lmao I relate to his opening parts about theatre SO HARD. I have a bachelor's and master of fine arts in theatre and I'm sitting here bereft of all my former passion for it. This gives me hope.
Patreon is probably the best model for new media to me because it enables the listener/viewer the ability to support the thing they want to see or hear. Unlike subscription models that is a vote of trust on the part of the subscriber that the channel will deliver X - Patreon is a continued support from people that love the product already and are willing to fund it's survival and I think it is the future of television. Seriously. People pay Sky, or over in the ol' United Kingdom where I come from we have to pay a state mandated TV licence to view shows we prob would never view just to own a TV. But when you can view a show and you enjoy it, you can pledge, (like the PBS model) an amount to keep that show running - that is the future. It's TV democracy. If a show is losing viewers then those contributions will slide of the chart and so it's time to call it a day. When they roll in - means you are doing something right. Today is a storm of a very interactive environment and connectivity to your audience is key - and Patreon is a great weathervein to see what as a creator you are doing right and build on that, rather than flail on knowing that pre-paid subscription covers your back. It keeps you on your toes :)
actually the TV licence isn't mandatory, you just need one to use most of the channels, if you're using it for Netflix or gaming etc you don't need the license.
maybe a bit late but if you're having trouble with the sound, look for a setting to make your audio mono in the accessibility settings, almost every device has it 👍
I love Travis, and this is an awesome lecture, but what the HELL were they thinking with this audio setup? Is the clip on mic supposed to be the "right" channel, and the handheld is the left? Like some weird stereo thing? But then why do you- why... I- ....
Hamman Your basic straight white dude bro stuff. Sexist, racist, homophobic jokes. If you listen to them it's obvious they are none of those things, but it's the type of offensive shit that comes from ignorance.
And very, *very* occasionally they’ll come off as somewhat intolerant of other people’s life decisions because of their religious background (I believe that’s what’s behind it anyway) but it comes off more as a joke :p
I've recently gone back and listened to them and if I hadn't already fallen in love with all of them I would have stepped the fuck away from it I mean just sort of xenophobic and really sexist, but ultimately you gotta laugh at yourself, admittedly that's easier to do with the knowledge of how respectful and amazing they are now but y'know?
I Adore this I truly do, but I am losing my mind over the fact, that youtube tells me that this is over a year old and now GUESS who is in Trolls 2?! I swear to god these tree have like Magic Powers or something. Probably demonic in nature somehow idk
"The second son of three sons." is ok; nothing wrong with that. However I choose to believe he meant "The second son of three suns." meaning he was birthed from three suns...and he has an older brother at least.
You know. I like seeing this. Because Travis is a grade A genuine good human being. He and his brothers will never realize it...but I actually went to school with him at OU. I like seeing him succeed and seeing him do speeches like this. That said? I also blame him for the ruination of The Adventure Zone. What was once a great show I loved listening to? It's now a piece of shit whose only redeeming quality is Justin as the fier bolg. Everything else just SUCKS and it's horrible.
My left ear really enjoyed this lecture.
zacrilegious glad to know I'm not the only one
I think you can switch your audio to be like- dual audio in both sides instead of it being split in settings if that helps lol
I oddly enough was listening with left headphone on, right headphone off and didn't even notice until I saw this comment haha
It’s still audible in the right ear, but you have to turn up the volume a lot higher
About 15 mins into this i thought to myself "wow i cant believe how much im enjoying just listening to one single person talk" then realised oh yeah, this is what Travis does for a living and hes very talented and practised at it. Very proud of the middlest brother, this was great.
especially as how he's overcome speech problems and hates his own voice. Love that sweet sweet beardy middle brother
I kinda almost definitely think Travis might be my favoritest brother
Chanderson 255 i cant pick a favourite! Everytime any of them says anything my favourite changes.
Middlest siblings are the best siblings 😁
There's our sweet middle boy.
the middlest!
+ ♡You blow a kiss to travis♡
He's left boy in this lecture.
This was great, but a nightmare with headphones.
Is it just not balanced?I'm hearing the audio only in my left headphone.I thought they were broken till I tested another video.
Okay I was real worried
the recording level of the recording device is just garbage argh
in Accessibility (MacOS) or Ease of Access (Windows), there is an option to play stereo audio as mono! this saved my sanity
@@matej94v thanks for the tip!
That nail game is always on point.
trobatron1 ikr??
his nails are always better than mine
+
Thank Travis for Travis.
Travis is Jesus
thank TRAVIS for travis. but also thank clint for travis.
It speaks volumes about how compelling speakers The Good Boys are that I suffered through 87 minutes of the loudest, hard left panned audio I've ever encountered on a video not intended as a troll on RUclips.
Best middlest brother ever.
Travis' next podcast - a podcast about podcasts to help better advertise podcasts by advertising podcasts within a podcast about podcasts.
Sam R Sit the fuck down, The Turnaround.
Sam R My podcast my podcast and me
Can we class this as a predicting the future because of their book about making podcasts
Yeah.. I'm gonna need those 138 hours of footage
I like that he has both a lapel mic and a normal mic.
I’m assuming one is for speakers and one is for recording audio (which isn’t necessary, but it’s the only thing I can think of). Based on the audio quality it clearly didn’t work lmao
Ohio Media School, all the audio is in the left channel in this video!
There's like 5% audio on the right, is it because of the way he's stood?
I have a feeling the right track is a mic near the audience
check out the tascam thats on the podium. one xlr in. left channel.
pretty sure it doesn't matter how it's set up, just fix it in post
you can fix that, but cant fix how hot mic audio
Very proud of this guy.....and his brothers.
holy shit i just clicked on this while browsing through random mcelroy videos and i just now noticed that im 45 minutes in. how did 45 minutes go by without me noticing? i was so focused on what travis was saying, damn he's a good speaker.
Seeing my boy Travis giving such genuinely good and insightful advice is honestly kind of surreal and I love it so much so proud of my boy
lord his hair is so perfect why cant i do that with mine. it looks like a dead rat on my head when i try it
It's the cut of his hair plus some gel (I assume) ;his hair was cut and then brushed to look like that! Talk to a hair salon person and show them a picture of travis' hair! Hope this helps 🍰💐💇
did it work
Ayo op did it work
Hey did it work?
My left ear enjoyed this very much.
I lost track of the enormous amount of good advice I received from this video halfway through watching it.
I feel so ready to make a podcast now but I was never interested in making one so now I have all this random information...
This is educational as hell
This has literally changed my entire view of how I do podcasting
Scottye Moore How so?
Christopher Bush Mostly his comments on tossing the energy back and forth as opposed to trying to make the podcast yourself, however the 30 minute lecture on microphones has also led to me becoming a stickler for sound quality as well hah
This was really interesting to listen to, speaking as a person who's not at media school but as a person with autism/adhd who likes to know how the things she likes are made.
ayyy, i have autism and adhd too
dragonflyzART it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it
(I'm not sure that's true, but we sure do add interest to life don't we?)
same!! though i’ve been wanting to start youtube or podcasting sometime soon
also wow i just realized y’all’s comments are two years old whoops
How in the hell does a broadcast media school pan an entire guest lecture hard left and not notice before uploading to RUclips? Haha that's really bad advertising
This was real good. A fantastic look into how to be an up and coming podcaster but also to not be afraid of making mistakes. Thanks Travis, very good talk.
Him saying he was 27/28 years old when he got into his field and happiness and all the doubts he had is really helping this 26 year old.
i think it's really funny that travis when talking about messing up says "27-28 episodes a week" instead of a month like he said earlier idk if it was an intentional good but either way i love this brother and his advice
I just watched an animatic about Magnus's end in The Adventure Zone...
I am glad for the distraction, and Travis is awesome.
So proud of everyone’s favorite middlest brother
This is so awesome, I loved hearing our middlest brother giving his life story and background. The only problem is that the audio seems to be coming through only on my left speaker. Don't know if this just me, but just wanted a heads up!
What a great guy.
Blessedt to know the McElroys through their podcasts
It was about 1962 and your grandfather McElroy walked into our living room, when I was about 12 years old, and presented my mother with a chastity belt. This was one of his bi-annual trips from Ironton, OH to Coudersport, PA. My dad was planning a hunting trip out west and planned to leave my mother and we kids behind. this si wild
THE PARTS WHERE HE STARTS RANDOMLY WHISPERING MAKE MY HEART MELT. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH
very genuine, hugely insightful
I was introduced to Travis through trends like these. Miss em.
Murpaderp SAME
Wow, I didn't know their mother had passed away... It does explain why she's never mentioned. ):
yngv1 you haven't listened to all of MBMBAM have you?
no i havent listened to all 369 hour long episodes, no... very very slowly working my way through them.
yngv1 well I see your problem, you have a life. I have no life so I got caught up to them in 11 months.
Also they have a story, (wouldn't classify it as funny but VERY McElroy) where the first Christmas after she passed, no one knew how to cook so they all went to golden corral ON Christmas. And basically described it as the poster boys for a sad Christmas
I wonder why they rarely mention their stepmom
Yooo thank you for sharing this! Not gonna sleep for another hour, but it's totally worth it.
I have listened to this lecture at least like 4 times and it never gets old
This was hilarious and fun to see, super informative, thank you Travis!
i put this on regularly while working
i love listening to him talk
@33:18 Awww we love you too Travis :D
his hair is amazing
"an advice show where we don't give advice" xD
For anyone coming here being annoyed by the audio: If you have an iPhone go into Settings -> General -> Accessibility and scroll down. There is a switch called “Mono Audio”. Activate it and the audio will be fine.
THANK YOU!
Won’t fix the fact they recorded it way too hot though. Really pretty pathetic for a media school
Lmao I relate to his opening parts about theatre SO HARD. I have a bachelor's and master of fine arts in theatre and I'm sitting here bereft of all my former passion for it. This gives me hope.
4 months later, how you doing now?
I love this talk, I must've watched in 5 times already
Surprised at how much I enjoyed this lecture
We love you too, Travis!!!
I relate to Travis
I love everything about this man
I love this man.
Now I just need to find a video of Justin giving a motivational speech about his life for an hour at a college, and I’ll have collected the full set
Very thoughtful. I loved it.
I just wanna sit on a couch and let travis relate to me.
And now our good boys are going to be in Trolls 2!!!
I am sorry for their loss. I did not know.

I love Travis.
"my mother passed away, which was a bummer... im fine now though!"
oops, I watched the whole thing
7:58
LEGIT ME TOO GRIFF
maybe a bit late but if you're having trouble with the sound, look for a setting to make your audio mono in the accessibility settings, almost every device has it 👍
God Trav is just the best
My left ear loved this video
And we love you to uso
Ironically, I came here because I heard he talks about their awesome audio setup
I love Travis, and this is an awesome lecture, but what the HELL were they thinking with this audio setup? Is the clip on mic supposed to be the "right" channel, and the handheld is the left? Like some weird stereo thing? But then why do you- why... I- ....
37:09 "my brothers and i" is my favourite mcelroy podcast
my left ear is vibing rn
Travis chasing the dragon of sound quality in his musty ass attic is the funniest thing ever
very sweet insight :+)
Well Griffin did one, and Travis did one...where's Justin's?
if travis came to my school to do a lecture I'd be so fucking jazzed. I'd fight my way to the front row
hey i was there!
Very cool
I would like to listen to this, but WHO managed to make this only play on one headphone?!
53:17 travis' face im crying
I think they succeeded because it was formed out of a wholesome desire to be together. No bummers.
9:10 anyone know what this ignorant stuff they were saying? I'm not too familiar with early mbmbam episodes.
Hamman Your basic straight white dude bro stuff. Sexist, racist, homophobic jokes. If you listen to them it's obvious they are none of those things, but it's the type of offensive shit that comes from ignorance.
Ceecilex Got you, thanks for the info!

The audio quality of this video isn't too far off from that $10 walmart headset from 2010
it’s like I’ve got a fun lil angel telling me his life story on my left shoulder
I Adore this I truly do, but I am losing my mind over the fact, that youtube tells me that this is over a year old and now GUESS who is in Trolls 2?! I swear to god these tree have like Magic Powers or something. Probably demonic in nature somehow idk
I desperately want to hear all the stories of the odd jobs travis did in LA
Oof, that mic's real hot. Wish they'd have made it mono, since it only recorded on one channel. Neat video though
why his mic panned hard left tho
23:45 I LOST IT AND SCREAMED AHAHA
Travis is such a cutie.
I wanted to listen but the audio is just so poorly done. D:
32:46 literally me to everyone I know
1:09:51 Finger nail polish
*my fucking left eardrum*
so Griffin and Travis have done a lecture, when’s Justin gonna do one?
7:49 This comment section.
Oh, that's why we never see their mother. Bummer.
"The second son of three sons." is ok; nothing wrong with that. However I choose to believe he meant "The second son of three suns." meaning he was birthed from three suns...and he has an older brother at least.
The editing is super distracting, you can just cut between the same 2 shots every 10 seconds for 90 minutes.
Middlest
You know. I like seeing this. Because Travis is a grade A genuine good human being. He and his brothers will never realize it...but I actually went to school with him at OU.
