- Can Germany replicate a 1950s American style diner? To celebrate our oldest daughter's birthday we went to 50's ville Diner in nearby Chemitz to find out.
About us: At the end of July, after a long time of hoping, dreaming, and planning, we sold or gave away almost everything we owned and left the United States to begin our journey with four children as an expat family. What a wonderful idea for a birthday. Even the clothes you (or at least the girls) were wearing, really fit into the theme.
It was all her idea, and she wanted everyone to get in 50's style clothing - unfortunately not all of us own clothes like that so we did the best we could! 😀

Thanks! The good was amazing and we had a great time. We didn't give ourselves enough time to really explore the area, but it's close enough that we know we'll be back.
Fantastic! Happy birthday to your daughter! She was even dressed and made up similarly and in the beginning of the video I wondered if she would wear some sort of petticoat. As for the music, I would have asked the staff if it was possible to turn on 50s music to make this experience even more authentic.
Thanks! Yes, she loves 50's style clothing, so she really enjoyed getting dressed up for this. I guess we didn't really think about asking the staff about the music...next time. 👍

Hi mj! Just a random recommandation:Go visit karl may fest next year in summer. Karl may produced this beautiful film series called „winnetou and old shatterhand“. There is the karl may museum in Radebeul and besides that people meet up once a year to celebrate this story and the history behind the war between indians and cattlemen. Everybody dresses up as cowboys or Indians with these traditional outfits, there is great food, saloons and the scenery is beautyful. It’s very near Dresden so maybe you come visit next year:)

The Brick Building in the background at 3:40 is the Industriemuseum, there you can see the History of the Industry of Saxony from ~1800 to today, they have the four mainparts of the saxon Industry: the Textile industry, Mechanical engineering, Mining and Vehicle construction. If you want to learn more about the social history of your new region, you could visit the SMAC (Sächsisches Museum für Archäologie Chemnitz) too, they show you around 300.000 years of mankinds history and the settlement of the modern saxony. You can visit the Naturkundemuseum too, there you can see ~300 million year old fossils of trees and animals, which were dug up in the area of the City. There is even an very old vulcano or the rest of it very close to Chemnitz, but Rochlitz should have one too, but that was more like a supervulcano.

We didn't give ourselves a lot of time to explore the area, but there definitely seems to be a lot of cool stuff to check out in the area - thanks for the tips!

Awesome! Been there myself. They really serve great food at reasonable prices, compared to the big fast food chains. I remember the burger, coleslaw, chicken wings, homemade dips and lemonade....
