Based on the UN definition, in order to call something human trafficking there has to be an action (such as transporting, harbouring, receiving, recruiting, etc), a means (abduction, force, coercion, threats, fraud, etc), and a purpose (forced labour, servitude, sexual exploitation, etc). All 3 must be present. While the restaurant owner was using labourers who did not have the proper documentation, there was no evidence in the show that he used a means like threats or coercion to complete an action such as transporting, recruiting or harbouring them for a purpose, which in this case would have been labour exploitation but again we don’t actually know that they were being exploited- it’s possible he was paying them a fair (albeit under-the-table wage) and treating them well. While it’s possible that those components did exist in this case the episode doesn’t show that, it just shows that the workers did not have the proper documentation to be working.
Kelly it actually does matter because the “victim” is different. Smuggling is considered a crime against the state which people knowingly and willfully attempt to circumvent correct immigration procedures (such as the men in the back of the trucks who WANTED to be transported across the boarder without documentation in search of jobs and a better life), whereas trafficking is a crime against a person whereby a trafficker uses a means (such as deception, threats, or force) to take an action (such as transporting, recruiting, or harbouring a person) for a specific purpose (such as sexual exploitation, labour exploitation, or forced servitude). While people can choose to be smuggled and sometimes even pay thousands of dollars for it, no one chooses to be trafficked.
blewberyBOOM so what does that mean. You want them to stay illegal in the country and get welfare. England has a problem and so many other countries for there own people.
I didn’t say anything about them being deported or allowed to stay. All I said is that there are 3 criteria to meet in order for it to be classified at human trafficking according to the UN and this program did not depict those criteria. What happens to these people next will be up to the government of the UK.
Considering the expense and insecurity involved, illegally entering the UK to work in a car wash gives you an idea how dim prospects at home must be for these guys.
Not really, it doesn't. If they work in the uk and can save 500£ a month and send it home, they're doing better than saving 500£ in their home countries over 6 months or a year, or even longer for a few. Also if they're criminals and tried doing some shady business back home, where are they going to go ?
I'm not suggesting anything other than this: if you haven't experienced the "3rd world countries " you cannot fathom the poverty. A car wash job is better than what they suffer now. Heck, few have cars....

And, I mean, it is true that we'll never be the same as someone who wasn't assulted, but I believe that we can learn to heal and be happy, and when people say 'life sentence' I feel like they maybe think we can't ever truly heal.
@usufusuf6497 Gross that you find that shit funny. It must be terrifying to be detained with no understanding of what's happening. Where is yall humanity?
I think this is hilarious in a way it's not like they're taking a job away from a British person how many British people do you know want to work in a curry store
That “managerial management?” student went to Pakistan to have hair transplant and those hair implanted will surely fall off again out of stress for being deported.
It’s sad to see people who come to the UK to actually work so they can provide for their families get deported while there’s millions born and raised here that spend a lifetime on benefits claiming there are no jobs, young able bodied people basically refusing to work , I don’t condone illegal immigration and the exploitation that goes with it but maybe like Australia they could issue work visas for an x amount of years.
They did say an Australian modelled system is what they'll be going for post-Brexit so hopefully things should improve. Hopefully there'll be changes to the benefit system to accompany this though.
It's unprofessional to try and convince someone not to go ahead with an appeal, especially after they said they want one. The immigration officer offered, the offer was accepted, then he tried to convince him to turn it down. Unethical in my opinion.
This is like a guide on how to get away with it, basically: Burn your passport or bury it somewhere safe Goto the collegue you were supposed to study at, at least once and memorise the route Remember they wont break the door down unless theyre are sure you live there and a whole load more tips that the savvy can glean
Here's an even better idea: How about doing things the correct and legal way? What a concept! Applying and doing the appropriate paperwork, waiting your turn and then you don't have to worry about immigration busting down your door and arresting you. Amazing!
There should be laws requiring biometric identification at time of entrance. Then when apprehended a biometric check would tie the person to documents on file. Then boom! bam! Next flight out
I can’t say what is ‘my wrong with people that traffick other people, especially children, all I know is when I was a young girl, I was sexually abused and I am an old woman now, I have never forgotten what happened to me, my heart ❤️ goes to the ones that were the victims, because they are going to take what happened to them to their graves, no medicine on earth is going to make the nightmares go away, shame on the sick people that do this

The presence of a few interpreters wouldn’t hurt. Considering how many full-fledged UK nationals are of foreign descent and speak their parents’ language in addition to English, it wouldn’t be that hard to hire a sufficient number of bi- or even tri-lingual customs officials. Not to indulge the migrants, but to make the officials’ life a lot easier.
Motorpolitan Well in this case I am very happy for the Britons who specialize in foreign languages. In my country Italy, most people with a university degree in languages are underpaid or end up in jobs that are completely unrelated to languages. For most Italians, a stable job as an anti illegal immigration officer and/or interpreter would look like a dream job.

All I know about the Border Force is how poorly set up they are at the international concourse at Heathrow. EVERY international flight seems to go through the same gates and it takes forever. Suffered through this twice in the past few years and each time it took around 3 hours. The funny thing is they didn't ask my wife or I any questions that I can recall other than if we're there for work or 'holiday'
Who keeps their passport at a “friends house”?? And also why do all these so called “college” students looks waaaaaaay older than an average college student...also how did they get into college with that level of English???
If policemen just do this with other type of criminality then all would be different, but going to an easy place to get people for working only, that has no sense to me 😒
I believe the officer suggested he not launch his appeal within the detention centre within the UK. He faces two options, 5 days appeal from within the UK, 28 (if I remember correctly) day appeal from outside of the UK. What can you do in 5 days while being detained?
I think he was totally right to do that. Why should that criminal be allowed to waste Taxpayer's money? The officer knows that the appeal will be denied. So to appeal is to simply waste other people's money, and time - so, I think it is right to discourage the waste of other's time and money.
@@Julia-nl3gq The system should be better designed to not waste money while still protecting people's rights. If there's a frivolous claim then maybe it can be fast-tracked to dismissal. If officers feel the need to bend the rules to make the system work then the best approach is to fix the system, not to make a habit of bending the rules.
I don't understand the option to appeal in this case - Immigration has a letter from college he said he is attending that he is not attending classes there, therefore he is lying as to why he is coming to UK - should be sent back home
@@sunnidays All I'm saying is, whoever has the authority to reject should reject. Anyone else who doesn't shouldn't tamper with the process. The letter, while most likely true and accurate, might not be. The university employee who sent it might have been new and made a mistake. The name given to them might not have matched the name they have in the system. The foreigner might have trouble communicating effectively, especially while under pressure. etc. If this goes to a court proceeding then the guy has the opportunity to defend his case, if he has a case at all. If not, then it should be over and done with relatively quickly. If the system is inefficient then it needs to be streamlined, not subverted haphazardly based on some officer's personal views or their mood that day. This is the key difference between first-world and third-world countries. Even the worst third-world countries can have constitutions or laws that guarantee rights and dignity, but those laws are rarely followed effectively and thoroughly due to corruption.

This is like a guide on how to get away with it, basically:
Burn your passport or bury it somewhere safe
Goto the collegue you were supposed to study at, at least once and memorise the route
Remember they wont break the door down unless theyre are sure you live there
and a whole load more tips that the savvy can glean
Immigration officers want to know your location
Sure way to filter out all the hard working honest ones

Also if you're in on a study visa, don't travel out and try to re-enter if you aren't attending classes.
Here's an even better idea: How about doing things the correct and legal way? What a concept! Applying and doing the appropriate paperwork, waiting your turn and then you don't have to worry about immigration busting down your door and arresting you. Amazing!

Usually people with said abilities get better pay working in another field.
It's never a matter of finding people, it's always the salary.
If these nationals you speak of already have English as a second language, then there is no need for interpreters.

Dam, they actually do enforce it. I can only imagine what the BP would do with this kind of enforcement authority.
Officers pressuring a guy to not use his right of appeal is a slippery slope.
