taylor swift is the coleen hoover of songwriters. she spews out song after song, album after album, but because she is petty, vengeful, and self-obsessed, and many women unfortunately are, too, she has a huge following. the writers of succession, mad men, and the sopranos have been way better wordsmiths who would give me more profound statements and observations in one episode than taylor does in one album. also, shes a mediocre singer (watch her sing the national anthem without any backup singers and compare it to gaga or beyonce), a mediocre songwriter (the songs she writes alone at 34, two on this album, without the help of others, couldnt hold a candle to the songs adele wrote all on her own at 19) and a bad dancer - theres a reason she only dances with many back up dancers, she aint j.lo.... its crazy that her hostility - and clever marketing, people wouldnt care as much if she wouldnt bash people in the public eye but private persons no one knows about - can reward mediocrity.
Fun fact: I’ve hung out with Taylor before when she was hosting Saturday Night Live back in the day because my friend was on the show. And we listened to her sing live. I had heard a lot of artist by that point, like Miley Cyrus. Miley’s back up singers were turned all the way down and her microphone was all the way up because she didn’t need vocal support. Taylor was barely audible because her backup singers were doing all the heavy lifting.
@@shallonlester Taylor is not a belter, screamer or whistler but she can sing well in her range and I personally find her voice pretty soothing. As a singer myself I have to admit that a lot of her songs are actually not easy to sing, especially the low notes (for me at least).

Of course they do, Adele is in her second marriage with a teenage child. These types of experiences matured her a lot.
I had a very close friend who did not believe in sex before marriage. She fell for a divorced guy who acted like he respected that and very much wanted to marry her, but gradually, the longer they dated, the more pressure he put. I met him, he seemed nice. 11 months in she caved and slept with him. He ghosted her the next day, literally blocked her, and vanished. He popped up a year and a half later to ask for a bootycall. I'm saying this in order to say; I personally have seen no 'wait til x dates' that can protect women from crappy men, players, etc. So I wish all women knew, no matter how quick or how late you get intimate, if they treat you terribly it's on THEM, not on you not having the right strategy. Please don't ever blame yourself for bad men, they are out there all over the place and the best way to recover is to give yourself grace for having feelings and being vulnerable. The more women support each other in the aftermath of awful situationships, the more self love there will be 🙂

This recently happened to me where I revealed to the guy I was dating that I was saving myself for marriage, and he was not okay with waiting for it like me. As a result we broke it off. I felt really bad that I broke things off with a good guy. Now, I'm glad that he was honest enough to tell that early instead of lying to me.

I’ve been watching Shallon since I was in MIDDLE SCHOOL. I am 27 now. A very long time ago she made a video saying “I don’t sleep with men that aren’t my boyfriends.” GIRRRRLLL I made that my own and every time a boy would be like oh let’s see where this goes and would try and make a move I would tell them, if we’re not serious we’re not sleeping together. I have NEVER been a situationship. EVER. The trash takes itself out and. I always make it very clear what I want from date number one and they don’t waste my time and I don’t waste theirs. I highly recommend watching Shallons Old videos, they’re GEMS. These too ah-bviously.

This is so true. There’s this guy who I projected everything I thought I wanted. Then he said he didn’t want to date. Few months pass and we did date. And during the relationship made me realise that I wasn’t missing out. We broke up but I’m so happy we dated because if not a big part of me would’ve always been seeing him as the goal.
One thing I got from this album is that the reason she didn’t write a lot of songs about Joe post breakup is because by that point the overwhelming emotion she felt was relief.

At age 28 I went into a year and a half long situationship with a man who could not call me his girlfriend. And I pretended I didn't need commitment, intimacy or MORE than the love kernels he was able to provide. I cried all the time! I finally said no more and put an end to it. A few months later I met a new guy, who asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend after a month of dating. First time a man has ever asked me that. As soon as the other guy heard I had a new boyfriend he comes back with "I love you". 😅

I will say, the only song about Travis on this album is So high school. The alchemy is clearly about Matty because she’s talking about going back to an old flame, and forgiving old transgressions. It’s just a coincidence that she loved inserting a football metaphor long before she even met Travis.

I love many things about Taylor, but I absolutely hate her victim mindset. It’s so incredibly off putting; she is so blessed that it’s infuriating to see her laser focus on the bad things in her life. You also have to know that the Kim released recording was EDITED. The full recording came out years later and Taylor never gave permission as Kanye AND Kim said she did.

1) One thing I find uncalled for is the line in thanK you aIMee about how her mom wishes Kim was dead. Too far Taylor. Too far. I hate that she said that. I agree that what Kim and Kanye did was wrong, but I would love it if she would move on.
2) One thing I don’t think is fair is how everyone says she “just writes songs about her exes” … literally that’s what everyone does. She didn’t invent that concept. When male artists do it, no hate. Maroon 5 has a whole album called “Songs About Jane” (amazing album btw). It’s literally about Adam’s ex named Jane. Very on the nose. Again, men don’t get hate for this.

I'm also almost certain Taylor watches you! while listening to her album there is a lyrics that goes "growing up precocious sometimes means not growing up at all" and I think it really much resonates with what you always said (about her but also celebrities in general) that they get stuck to the time they became famous, hence really not growing and moving on from that

I understand she can’t fly commercial. But the super short flights make no sense. An office building facilitates the business of potentially hundreds of people who do potentially essential work that makes the world go round. Taylor taking 30 minute flights isn’t essential to anybody but her. It might be essential for her and her schedule but she since she’s the boss she’s able to control the need to take such short flights. I think that’s the issue people have.
A 30 minute flight can go much further than a 30 minute car ride.

Ok you made some good points. However, here is my take. The reason Taylor can't get over what happened with Kim is because Kim recorded that phone call and then edited it to make her look like a liar. She publically humiliated her to the point she moved to a different country for a year and became a hermit. The thing you have to remember about pain is it effects everyone differently. Just because someone sees something as insignificant doesn't mean it was to the person it happened to. Kim also after this public humiliation had the audacity to call her a snake. Two years after this happened the actual unedited audio tape got leaked and it vindicated Taylor and showed she had not lied. Kim did not apologize for recording or editing said tape. She also had not apologized for calling Taylor a snake. No instead Kim got on social media and acted like Taylors feelings were nothing compared to millions of people's suffering. Kim failed to take accountability for her role in this. Even, though Taylor is a big star, she is still a human first. I highly doubt if any of us went through being called a liar and having someone edit something to make it look like we were, we would hold a grudge too. Like I said what may be small to us may be big to someone else. I don't know if you have seen the latest, but after Kim heard thanK you aIMee, she took a pic with Karly Kloss and posted it to social media. Yeah, it's safe to say neither one are over it or are backing down. Kriss Jenner years ago told Kim to call Taylor and make it right. Kim point blank refused. To me yeah Taylor may not be able to get over things, but Kim had a hard time taking accountability when she hurts people. We have seen this behavior with not just Taylor, but her sisters and her friends too. Kim deleted this from the recording, then released it and proceeded to start an online harassment campaign against Taylor by labelling her a snake and bullied her off the internet. And, Kim continues to pretend she did nothing wrong to this day. I would still be mad as well. Despite that, the song is literally about how Taylor is thankful for the situation in hindsight because Kim helped her heal.

Worst heartbreak and grief I've ever experienced, and I'm 29 and have been in a 4 year relationship that didn't hurt nearly as bad. In my opinion, Taylor went way too far with some of her songs on this new album. She just comes across as petty, vindictive, and sort of mean at this point. And the quality of her songwriting has greatly declined over the past few years.
She has ran trough by the entire pop industry coz she uses those men as her muses. Some co-write with her or she just feeds off there musicality. She is now with a sports guy, and is trying to present as more of a adult with the alcoholic vibes she plays up for the media. She has to attack Kim, not Kanye, and Kims kids coz if her music keeps getting more mediocre, she needs to fight (arguably) the most famous person in the world to get attention to sell a mediocre album😂😂😂
Taylor has ONE bop on TTPD, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart. That song will be the "arena" song for this album, and that's probably the only one. Fortnight will also likely be the performed song for this album in the future, but hopefully these will be the only 2 from TTPD to be performed with any sort of regularity.

I have to disagree with you Shallon, that not putting out will spare you from getting into a toxic situationship. I went out with a guy for about 6 months, and tried to keep it casual and not have sex with him, although we did make out occasionally, because he was not making his feelings clear. Then I kind of broke up with him, and then he kind of started telling me more that he liked me, and called me more over the holidays etc. So I finally slept with him, because I thought he was finally making a choice to be with me. And after that, he went right back to his old ways. Maybe even worse. So I was fooled. He never changed. And I hung around a bad situation for a while, because I figured I might as well stay and enjoy it for a little while. Maybe if I had not made out with him, at all, for those 6 months, that might have prevented it, I don't know.

My two cents here about Taylor being an environmental criminal: I watched a video where a woman was saying something which is very true: if Taylor doesn't fly to people, people fly to Taylor and at the end of the day that's way more damaging for the environment. She mentioned some stats so it was not just a vague thoughts, it really put things in perspective for me.
I think the issue people have is that it's excessive. Like, if you're in South America, you really have to fly home to go to sleep and come back the next day? She really can't just stay in some fancy hotel? That's absurd.

Hopefully Taylor is done with the Kimye feud because it really takes away from her art. But Kim is the one who dedicated entire episodes of her highly watched reality show to trashing Taylor’s reputation. I went back and watched the episode and Kanye didn’t care about the issue but Kim kept pressing him to release the audio of the phone call. It was illegally recorded. That’s why Taylor had a problem with Kim. But she has hopefully moved on.

I am proud TS put this album out, and all of it with both records released. She’s at a point in her career that she is pushing her boundaries and her work is not compared to others artists, because it is great, but to her own discography. It is a tortured album and intense. It is personal and will poke at you to feel things, even deeply. Pain brings art and she let it all out. This album was to push herself and her writing on her own terms. She has earned this creative freedom in a commercial setting which is an artistic dream. She is probably already working on her next album and this album was not for stadiums but a personal sonnet (with pop synths) to herself and fans who wish to go there with her. I applaud her vulnerability to be free and go for it. This album will be revered 10 years and longer from now. Just right now, it is a lot to take in all at once. Savor the songs. Listen to them over and over again at your own pace, and await the next fun pop album that will be inspired by all the fun times she’s having now in her life 🤗.

I don’t knock anyone for liking Taylor, but I’ll explain why I don’t. There’s nothing wrong with writing about your exes or writing some songs where you aren’t displaying healthy behavior because art is where you put the messy parts. My issue is that throughout all the breakups and the songs written about them I haven’t heard any songs where she’s honest about herself. Miley’s ‘angels like you’ directly states how she’s the problem and feels like she was doomed to ruin a relationship- doesn’t mean she’s all sunshine and roses, but at least it was somewhat honest. Every bad action, feeling, and situation is ALWAYS someone else’s fault. I see zero self-awareness ever and now, the music sounds boring too. I’d rather her come out with a poetry book instead of songs at this point. It is what it is, but I genuinely worry about anyone who can’t at least recognize that. If you’re going to write about a breakup, write about the WHOLE thing.

Folklore and Evermore are my favorite albums by her but this one… I would have much preferred to have the lyrics published on a book (maybe she’s thinking of it.) that I could just read at my own pace and underline and stuff. It shows that the majority of them where written as poems and then added the music, that’s why the music kind of sounds all the same to me. I think they’re great poems and meh songs. And the whole things seems baroque to me, from the vocabulary to the length to the themes, like she’s going about the same thing over and over again and it was just too much. In folklore and evermore I feel she was more explorative and each song was different from each other. I still love her, but I’m not playing that album again anytime soon.
