I was the 12 year old kids who would journey to the cinema cause it was the place to be. Anytime I bought some bland ass pg whatever would be playing same time and sneak into pg-13 and would be little youngster. Quiet, no kidding around. By myself. My escapes from a lame bland reality. To the cinema. "What we do in life. Echoes into eternity." And bought every word and performance this man in his prime brought that fire. Where I went to a fantasy realm time machine. Back when that was a unique thing to watch and be entertained..it cannot be topped nor followed. I said what I said.

How deeply admire his work and am truly grateful for the artistic displays he's put on TV but I truly found his stories absolutely abhorrent and lacking in humor and pace. It felt like he put too much emphasis on his importance in the story and not enough emphasis on whether or not the story is good period his jokes were horrible and he's got a relatively big head about his acting life. I'm not being hypocritical it's just how I perceived him. Still a pretty good listen and I love everything he's in

Unlike others who use these kind of interviews as marketing potential, hoping to score another big role, Crowe (a Kiwi) is very laid back, not fussed either way, if it happens it happens, his enjoyed what his done, what he has, just enjoying life.
Aussies Paul Hogan, Eric Bana, Guy Pearce, Sam Worthington, are similar interviews, if Rogan ever gets them. Heath Ledger would have been a good one, RIP.
Others like Hemsworth, Jackman, Robbie, get awkward talking about themselves, ham it up too much to compensate.

Its funny because our band used to rehearse in these studios in Sydney in 2001-2. His band used to rehearse next door to us sometimes. But when everyone was out the front having a smoko break during breaks he would always be chatting. He was really cool and just really normal. He'd done Gladiator so he was already a pretty big deal then.

I'm very sick with stage 5 kidney failure and heart failure at 45. 💯! As an Australian growing up in Sydney in the 90’s/00’s…I don’t ever think I ‘got’ who Russell Crowe is/was. I would see him paparazzi shots with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth at the footie and the few interviews I’ve seen him in, he came across as an arrogant, self important douche. Throwing phones and all that. Haha! But watching this - I think I just didn’t know who he is…just this normal guy who happens to be an extremely talented actor. A self professed flawed human who loves his family. And I thought…there’s no profound story here…but he’s an exceptional story teller with a soothing voice. He could literally talk about cleaning toilets and it would be captivating.

Russell made sure he signed everything they had and took all the pictures they wanted, even though his entourage were eager to leave. This was also nearly 1am. It was quite the experience.

My first day on any set and as a Kiwi, the 2nd AD told me Russell was also a Kiwi, so I bowled up and had a chat with him. During filming of a tense scene I laughed as a fellow extra cracked a joke under his breath - "Cut! Cut! Cut!, the kid in the blue hat laughed"....I wanted the world to open up and engulf me...Russell came up later and couldn't stop laughing. Said it was the funniest thing he had seen for a long time! Our acting careers have diverged ever since! 🙂
