The 3rd wildcard has effectively leveled the playing field by creating many more "buyer" teams at the deadline. It used to be about a third of the teams were in it, now it is ~75% of teams buying. That's why we see so much parity and no teams on pace to have 95+ wins.
Another indication of the parity we are seeing is that there is only one team as of this posting, who is running away with its division: The Milwaukee Brewers. Don't think that too many had that on their bingo cards prior to the start of the season.
The TB Rays are on the west coast this week. Was channel surfing my way through the early games. Loved the Kidcaster and yes that was an exciting walk off by Alvarez!
Great walk off HR by Alvarez. Hoping it carried over to Tues game, but the Mets laid an egg. Big mistake pulling Winker in the 7th inning to pinch hit with Bader. The rally in the 8th saw Bader end it and strike out for the 2nd time against a tough righty, where Winker should have been up. Now 2.5 games behind ATL & SF only 1 game behind the Mets.
Fun fact: The entire Mets outfield plus both catchers have a combined total of 5 HRs post AS break.
