REAL DE CATORCE, SAN LUIS POTOSI, MEXICO - Hola amigos! We have finally made it to the former silver mining town of Real de Catorce in the state of San Luis Potosi in Mexico! This is a feature length video detailing a location which gives you an authentic feel of the Mexican desert. If you'e planning a Mexico trip or Mexico vacation in 2019, San Luis Potosi and Real de Catorce have to be on your itinerary!
Real de Catorce is located approx 2700 metres above sea level north of Matehuala in San Luis Potosi state. It rose to prominence in the late 1700s when silver was discovered, which became the main industry in the area. Once the early 1900s came, the price of silver had plummeted, resulting in the town being largely abandoned.
You can visit Real de Catorce on a tour/bus from San Luis Potosi or Matehuala or do it yourself as I did (My Airbnb host in Cedral drove me). There is a bus back at 1540 and at other times throughout the day (you get a small bus through the Ogarrio tunnel then change to a Grupo Senda bus to Matehuala).
You can also visit the ghost town higher up by horse, or (As I did), walk! It takes about 1-1.5hrs depending on fitness.
WIND - Yes there is wind in the video (I was at 3000 metres), please put the subtitles on if you can't hear.
    MUSIC -
"Distant Echo" - Jakob Ahlbom (Intro and Outro)
"Breaking of Dawn 4" - Stefan Mothender (Exploring section)
"I Promise You" - Johannes Bornlof (Cemetary and Church scenes)
"Cinematic Introductions 4" - Magnus Ringblom (Ghost Town Trek)
    ALL MUSIC FROM EPIDEMIC SOUND

Real de Catorce! Definately one of my top days in Mexico! *Have you been to Real de Catorce?* As written in the video, please turn on subtitles in English or Spanish if you cannot hear me due to wind! Unfortunately with extremely strong winds at altitude, it's close to impossible to remove without affecting the other sound ie my voice! 🇲🇽❤

Tao of David Real de Catorce is a magic town, a place where past meet you in every corner, where European tourists get amazed with that old ruins and the tales behind them, did you see Huicholes walking in the streets David ? , it’s a place with a lot of History, I visited Real de Catorce 10 years ago and I was amused before and after my trip, planning to go again this year and walk more, explore more, know more. Thanks for your excellent Video David and la Huasteca Potosina wait to amaze you again ! Saludos from a Mexican in Los Angeles !

I have been several times to Real de Catorce. Spent two nights there once (2010, I think...). I share 100% your sense of awe especially when the town is empty (low tourist season, mid-week). BTW - the "asparagus" growing from the cactus is called QUIOTE (KEY-OH-TEH), it is the flower of the plant, a final burst of energy before the cactus dies... Thanks for sharing, it brought fond memories!

Beautiful video of an old town that I have always loved. From the U.S. my parents would always take me there as a child and when I married and had my children we continued going there and they loved going to that beautiful old ghost town! We stopped visiting about 10 years ago. I miss going there and hope someday my grandkids will be able to visit too!

Hi Mary I'm glad you enjoyed it! One of the things I love is when people tell me stories about growing up somewhere or having history in a place I film a video in, it's fascinating and so cool that these videos can have an impact. Thank you for watching and commenting and I hope you can get back there soon! I'm in Durango right now!

David: first of all, CONGRATULATIONS for your first 10000... is your honesty and of course the quality of yor videos what we love.
Second: GREAT, Real de 14 was breathtaking for me throug your words, faces, emotions, even the sounds... my total empathy with you! Superhonest moments that you have shared with us... Thank you!
Third: you look very well with that suntan! Handsome!
Peace...and continue enjoying this nice country. (May be it could be a good idea to sleep one night there! I do not know R14, but I ll try to get there and stay one night)
Did you know that decades ago, when peope had forgotten this town it was the firs statio to enter to the desert and look for the "peyote"? A "magical" plant that help old tribes of the North of México to enter in "the divine"... an iniciation or ritual jouney or something like that! Of course also an hallucinogenous very searched in the 60s and 70s.

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679  5 лет назад +1

Gracias Jose! We talked about peyote on the last live stream, I'd never heard of it! I was going to stay in Real de Catorce instead of Cedral but I couldn't find anywhere in my budget that had wifi for English lessons! Cedral was great though

The desert it's a beutiful place. My Dad is from Durango, Gomez Palacio actually near to Torreón Coahuila. And there is so much beutiful places to visit: El Puente Colgante de Ojuela, El Bolsón de Mapimí, Hacienda de La Perla (an old hacienda where it was used by Pancho Villa in the Mexican Revolution), Las Dunas de Bilbao and of course La zona del Silencio, not a lot of people would think the desert would be an interesting place to visit, but is so wild and that is a beuty, you know? . Be safe and bonito día
