From Al bukhari: "The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) married me when I was six years old. We came to Madinah and stayed among Banu’l-Harith ibn Khazraj. I fell sick and lost my hair, (then I recovered) and my hair grew down to my earlobes. My mother Umm Ruman came to me when I was on a swing and some of my friends were with me. She called me loudly and I went to her, and I did not know what she wanted of me. She took me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house, as I was gasping for breath, until I had calmed down. Then she took some water and wiped my face and head with it, then she took me into the house. There were some women of the Ansar in the house, who said: With good wishes and blessings and good luck. She handed me over to them and they adorned me, and suddenly I saw the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) at mid-morning, and they handed me over to him. At that time I was nine years old. (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 3894; Muslim, 1422)"

ആയിശ ഉഹ്ദ് യുദ്ധത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തിരുന്നുവെന്ന് ബുഖാരി റിപോർട്ടു ചെ യ്യുന്നു (ബുഖാരി 2880). ഉഹ്ദ് യുദ്ധം ഹിജ്റ മൂന്നാം വർഷമായിരുന്നു. കുട്ടികളെ യുദ്ധത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുപ്പിക്കാറില്ല എന്ന കാര്യം സുവിദിതമാണ്. ആയിശ മുതിർന്ന സ്ത്രീയായിരുന്നുവെന്ന് അർഥം. ഉമ്മുസുലൈമും ആയിശയും വസ്ത്രം മുറുക്കി യുടുത്ത് യുദ്ധമുഖത്ത് പ്രവാചകനു കവചം തീർത്തുവെന്നാണ് പ്രസ്‌തുത ഹദീസിലുള്ളത്.
പ്രവാചകൻ ആയിശയെ വിവാഹം ചെയ്യുന്നതിനു മുമ്പേ ആയിശയെ മുത്ഇമു ബ്നു അദിയ്യിൻ്റെ മകനുമായി വിവാഹാലോചന നടത്തിയിരുന്നു. അത് ഏതാണ്ട് ഉറപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്‌തിരുന്നു. അവിശ്വാസിയായ മുത്ഇമും കുടുംബവും അസ്വീകാര്യമായ ഉപാധികൾ വെച്ചതിനെ തുടർന്ന് ആ ബന്ധം ഒഴിയുകയായിരുന്നു. തുടർന്നാണ് പ്രവാചകൻ വിവാഹാന്വേഷണം നടത്തുന്നത്. അന്ന് ആയിശ വിവാഹപ്രായം എത്തിനിൽക്കുന്ന യുവതിയായിരുന്നു എന്നർഥം. (ബൈഹഖിയുടെ ദലാഇലുസ്സീറ, സീറതു ഇബ്‌നു കസീർ, ശറഹുസ്സർഖാനി, താരീഖു ത്വബരി, അൽബിദായതു വന്നിഹായ)
ആയിശ ജനിച്ചത് പ്രവാചകത്വ ലബ്ധിക്ക് അഞ്ചോ ആറോ വർഷം മുമ്പാണ്.തന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ പ്രവാചകനും പിതാവും നടത്തുന്ന ചർച്ചകൾക്ക് ആയിശ സാക്ഷിയായിരുന്നു. വിവാഹസമയത്ത് ആയിശയുടെ വയസ്സ് 18 ആയിരുന്നു.
ഒന്നിച്ചു ജീവിച്ച സമയത്ത് ആയിശക്ക് 20 വയസ്സുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
പ്രവാചകന്റെ മരണമാണ് ആയിശ 30 വയസ്സുകാരിയായിരുന്നുന്നു. ആയിശ മരണപ്പെടുന്നത് ഹിജ്റ 58ൽ 78-ാം വയസ്സിലാണ്. അന്ന് മുആവിയയുടെ ഭരണമായിരുന്നു. ആയിശയുടെ പ്രായം കുറച്ചു കാണിക്കുന്ന ഉദ്ധരണികൾ ചരിത്രവസ്തുത കൾക്കും യാഥാർഥ്യങ്ങൾക്കും വിരുദ്ധമാണ്.
പ്രവാചകൻ തന്റെ മകൾ ഫാത്തിമയെ വിവാഹം ചെയ്തുകൊടുത്തത് 19-ാം വയ സ്സിലാണ്. പല അന്വേഷണങ്ങളും വന്ന ഘട്ടത്തിൽ സമയമായില്ലെന്ന മറുപടിയായി രുന്നു നബി നൽകിയിരുന്നത്. മകളുടെ കാര്യത്തിൽ ഈയൊരു നിലപാട് സ്വീകരിച്ച പ്രവാചകൻ തന്റെ കാര്യത്തിൽ വിരുദ്ധമായ മറ്റൊരു നിലപാട് സ്വീകരിച്ചുവെന്ന വാദം അസ്വീകാര്യമാണ്. (അവലംബം: അഹ്മദ് ത്വബരിയുടെ ദഖഇർ),
ആയിശയുടെ വിവാഹപ്രായത്തെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള തെറ്റായ പ്രചാരണങ്ങൾ പ്രവാചക വ്യക്തിത്വത്തെ കളങ്കപ്പെടുത്താൻ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുള്ളതാണ്.
മുൻകാലങ്ങളിൽ ചെറിയ പ്രായത്തിൽ വിവാഹം ചെയ്യുന്നത് പതിവായിരുന്നു വെന്നും അപ്രകാരം ചെയ്ത പ്രശസ്‌ത വ്യക്തികളെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ധാരാളമായി കാണാമെന്നും പറഞ്ഞ് ആയിശയുടെ പ്രായം ആറു വയസ്സായിരുന്നുവെന്നു സമർഥിച്ചു വാദിക്കുന്ന ചിലരെ കാണാറുണ്ട്. തങ്ങൾ ഉയർത്തുന്ന വാദത്തിന്റെ അപകടം എന്തെന്നു തിരിച്ചറിയാതെയാണ് അവർ ഇതു പറയുന്നത്.
പ്രവാചകൻ എക്കാലത്തേക്കും മാതൃകയാണ്. പിന്തുടരേണ്ട വ്യക്തിത്വമാണ്. ഖുർആൻ അത് ഊന്നിപ്പറയുന്നുണ്ട്. പ്രവാചകൻ്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികൾ കുറ്റമറ്റതും മാതൃ കാപൂർണവും ആയിരിക്കണം. അതു നാട്ടുനടപ്പിൻ്റെ ദൂഷ്യങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും സാമ്പ്രദായികതയുടെ ജീർണതകളിൽ നിന്നും മുക്തമായിരിക്കണം, നാട്ടിൽ നടപ്പുള്ള ഒരു ദുരാചാരത്തെ പിന്തുടരുന്ന ആളാകരുത് പ്രവാചകൻ. അതിനെ തിരുത്തുന്ന വിധം ഇടപെടുകയാണ് പ്രവാചക ധർമം. നാട്ടിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന സമ്പ്രദായത്തോടൊപ്പം പ്രവാചകനെ ചേർത്തുകെട്ടുന്നത് അത്യന്തം അപകടകരമായ വാദമാണ്. പ്രവാചക നിന്ദയുമാണ്.
ഉത്തമമായതേ പ്രവാചകനിൽ നിന്നുണ്ടാവുകയുള്ളൂ. ആർക്കും സ്വീകാര്യമാവുന്ന ഉന്നതമൂല്യങ്ങൾ അടങ്ങിയ പ്രവൃത്തികൾ. പ്രവാചകൻ്റെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിലൊന്നും കല്ലുവിരുദ്ധതയോ മൂല്യനിരാസമോ കാണുക സാധ്യമല്ല. അങ്ങനെ കാണുന്നുവെ ങ്കിൽ അതു പ്രവാചകന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിയായിരിക്കില്ല, വ്യാജവാർത്തകൾ മാത്രമായിരിക്കും.
